imageErika called Monday asking me if I would or if I knew anyone that would search for a ring lost at Descanso Beach in Avalon, CA. “Catalina Island”

I know Avalon well and take trips there a couple times a month using a commuter pass for the Catalina Flyer ferry. It would be a nice excuse to get over to the Island combining a search with visiting friends.
Erika and her husband Nolan with their two year old son had planned this weekend trip to celebrate her birthday. They set up on the sand at Descanso Beach Resort to enjoy the afternoon. Her husband slipped his wedding band on Erika’s thumb while he went for a swim. Soon after, while playing with her son she noticed the ring missing. It had to be in a small area but the sand was not giving it up.. It was not a happy birthday with Erika feeling guilty for losing the ring.
Erika texted me the location where they had been sitting with photos. I left Newport Beach at 9:00am arriving at Avalon about 10:30am.. My friend Joe was there to meet me with his golf cart.. It had been four days since the loss but. Chances were still good that the ring was still in the sand. Today the cruise ship was in, so we just had to grid the area before people set up their beach towels. Luck was with me, it was a fairly quick search it wasn’t long till Erika’s husband’s ring was in my sand scoop. I hand been updating her by text during the morning so I sent her a photo of the ring in my hand..
We met the next day at a time halfway between between her home and where I live to give her the ring.. Her plan was to surprise Nolan with the ring when he got home from work. Ericka sent me a text message the next day telling me how well the surprise went. It was another special search having my friend Joe help me and witness how Our group works. Avalon is a small town with not much happening, so by the end of the day many of the local residents had heard about TheRingFinders.com.

Platinum Ring Lost in Surf .. Corona DelMar, CA. .. Recovered

Matt and Kristy were enjoying a day at the Corona Delmar Beach. They have just moved into the area from Georgia. The surf today was very rough and probably much more violent than they are used to on the east coast. Matt waded out into the surf to his waist then dove under the incoming wave. After getting beat up by the wave he realized his Tiffany Platinum wedding ring was missing.
They spent the next two or three hours trying to find the ring as the tide was receding with no success. Returning home Kristy went to the computer finding my contact information on TheRingFinders.com. I was at another beach a few miles away. After a few questions, I was able to determine that the loss occurred at peak high tide. That’s a good thing, but by the time I got the call the tide was rising again. I told them the most important thing was that we meet so I can get an approximate location. It may require that I wait till tomorrow’s low tide.
We met in the parking lot 20 minutes after our phone conversation. Matt had a pair of dive goggles read to do some searching of his own. I almost didn’t take my detector to the water because the tide was quite high. As a second thought I grabbed my CTX 3030 detector and my long handled sand scoop walking to get the location. The waves were really powerful with a strong back wash which could be a disadvantage when trying to retrieve a target. Otherwise that means when digging a target it is possible to lose it in a violent wave.
I wasn’t very positive about this attempt but I walked straight out to give it a try. Matt was at my side when I got my first signal. He got very excited as I told him, this beach has a lot of aluminum trash don’t get excited. It took probably 5 scoops to dig this between several waves. I’m beginning to believe in miracles because in the scoop was Matt’s Platinum ring.
The beach was crowded in the water and on the sand. They all were watching as I walked into the water with all my gear. When the find was made I held my detector and scoop up over my head in a victory salute.. Applause and cheers from everyone made me feel like a rock star. This was another awesome adventure and again I was just as surprised as everyone. Another RingFinders success story that will someday be a household name when people need help finding lost heirlooms.

Venice Beach Resident Lost Ring in Sand .. Found by TheRingFinder Member

Even after many years living on the beach, you can not be too careful with your valuables. The sand can hide your dropped jewelry in seconds.

Jeff and Fran live on the beachfront in the Santa Monica / Venice Beach area. They spend much of their time on the beach at the towel line nearest to the water. Today Fran asked Her husband, Jeff to give his gold wedding ring for her to put in her bag for safe keeping.
After a few hours Fran notice the ring was missing from her bag. They had not moved so they were sure the ring was in the sand. Two hours later their attempts to find the ring was useless. Fran went to the nearest lifeguard tower to ask for suggestions. The lifeguard recommended they Google search TheRingFinders.com also suggesting that they call me.
They called me and I asked them to stay on the spot or Mark where they where. The traffic is always unpredictable but I was still able to meet them before they had to leave. That made it an easy search. With a few swings of my detector I had a solid signal which turned out to be Jeff’s ring. They were very grateful and told me this was 37 years of being married and living here in Santa Monica/Venice Beach. It was a pleasure to meet them and help them find their ring.

Lost Custom Platinum Wedding Ring .. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

An irreplaceable ring lost in the sand. A custom platinum wedding band that had a diamonds  from Gregory’s great grandmother, his grandmother and one from his mother’s rings.
The phone call from Gregory’s wife Mallory came to me about 5pm. She told me that her husband lost his platinum wedding band while doing a photo shoot at Victoria Beach in Laguna Beach, CA. He would be there for another hour and a half. I just told her I was on my way. I could get the details from her husband.
The most important parts of the search is to get there ASAP and to talk to the person who lost the ring. Arriving at Victoria Beach descending about 200 steps, I met Greg who was busy helping with the photo shoot. We talked for a few seconds, enough to find out that he had played some volleyball before beginning the photo shoot. He did not know when his ring fell of his finger. This was where he had been the most active.. There were other places he had been but I would first eliminate the volleyball court.
I had finished the one side of the volleyball court when Greg returned. Telling him,  I was sure it was not there. I asked for more details of what he had done involving activity that would cause the ring to slip from his finger. He told me that he had to chase the ball from outside the court and he would throw it back from there. Twenty feet outside the court was a drainage ditch with a 2 ft. embankment. I needed to swing my detector over that area before going to the other side of the court.  It was getting dark and the tide was beginning to backup into the ditch. I started to swing my detector alongside of the embankment when I got a great signal. Took a scoop at the very top edge and there was Greg’s ring. It was another surprise find for me. I didn’t expect it to be in the edge of the cut. When that 2ft. cut collapsed with the rising tide or somebody stepping on the edge it could have been buried the ring out of the detection range.
Even though it was getting dark Greg’s wife Mallory had come to give her support, so she also got to be here to celebrate the recovery. We took some photos for this story. Then we headed up the 200 stairs to our vehicles. Telling lost ring recovery stories as we walked. They were so happy that the ring was found before the celebrated their first wedding anniversary next month. Very nice couple and it was a pleasure to meet them.

Ring Lost at Huntington State Beach .. Found with Metal Detector

Samantha had read a posting on social media about a ring that I found for a lady a couple weeks ago. She had no idea that she would need my services.
Saturday Samantha and her husband Steve went to Huntington State Beach. Before going into the water Steve put his wedding ring in the cup holder of his beach chair. The rest of the story is like many other lost ring stories. Ring in the sand then the hours of raking their fingers through the sand to no avail.
After giving up, returning home Samantha remembered the story about TheRingFinders.com . She contacted me giving me perfect directions so I could start the search before they arrived. It was another easy search because I found the trash can that they were near and then I could see the finger marks through the sand. It still took about 20 minutes as they were about 10 feet from the actual location of the ring.
Text message them a photo of the ring and when they got to the beach I got to see the smiles and the gratitude they both had for the return of wedding band. Steve said, that last night he had thoughts about how he had worn the ring everyday for six and a half years and it was now gone.. We changed that part of the ring’s story. It was a pleasure to meet Samantha and Steve. This does not get old, I can’t wait till the next call.

Ring Lost First Day after Wedding .. Santa Ana, CA. .. Recovered

Javier called me about 8 pm, Monday night. He had lost his wedding ring the day after his marriage to Stephanie. They had a big reception, Sunday at his parent’s home. He wasn’t quite sure where or when it was lost but he was able to eliminate a few areas by reviewing photos taken during the day.
He believed it was lost on their large lawn. It was not a public area so it wasn’t necessary to do the search that night. It’s always a question in my mind, what kind of conditions will I find when I get to the search area. It was a nice yard area that had quite a few metal trash signals, mostly deep. I set my sensitivity on my detector low because there is no need to waste time investigating deep targets. I concentrated on the low tones with surface depth readings ( 1″ or 2″ ). After about 30 minutes I got a got the perfect gold tone at 2 inches. Javier’s ring in the grass probably stepped deep into the grass by several people during the party.
The family had left me to do the search while they waited inside the house. I did not touch the ring, I wanted them to see how well it was hiding in the grass. We all enjoyed the moment, sincerely thanking me and taking time to take photos. It was definitely a pleasure to help them find their wedding ring.

Metal Detector Rental ? To Find Your Lost Sentimental Jewelry

Renting a metal detector is time consuming and will be frustrating if you have never used one. Especially near salt water or trashy parks were there are years of pull tabs and bottle caps to make things interesting.
Jessica called me asking me if I rent metal detectors and how my service works. She found my name on TheRingFinders.com.. I replied by saying I want to help you find the lost ring. You the rest is up to you. Time is very important and I’m available anytime you are. Her husband Andrew had lost his platinum wedding band while throwing a football at the top of the high tide line Sunday about 6pm.
They were at Surfside Colony a private community near Sunset Beach in north Orange County, CA.. Jessica said that she could meet me to get me in the gate and show me the location. I told her that it works better if her husband, who had lost it, could be there to explain what had happened. Lately, I’m finding out that it makes the search much easier if the person who lost it gives me the details.
Andrew could meet me a couple hours later after he got off work. He brought his son Cole, so I gave them a short lesson about how the detector works on the walk to the beach front. The two high tides since he lost the ring had moved in several inches of sand over the top of the slope. I started the grid in the center of the 40×40 ft. location . There wasn’t much trash so the grid search was moving fast except for my explaining to them what I was doing. Then I got a fare sounding signal, after three scoops I lost hope that it was Andrew’s platinum ring mainly because it should have been a surface find. One more scoop and there was a beautiful platinum ring belonging to Andrew. You have to stay positive the ocean does strange things. In this case it had to deposit about 8 inches of new sand over the top of the slope onto the towel line in less than 24 hrs.
We took a few photos then I let Andrew and Cole swing my detector as we walked off the beach. I think we will have a new member joining this hobby of metal detecting. Again it was a pleasure to meet Andrew and Cole and help them find the lost.

Lost Ring in Sand .. Huntington State Beach, CA. .. Found

Friday Brittany and her friend spent her birthday at the beach. Her friend picked up a beach blanket not knowing she had laid her ring on the blanket. Ring in the sand, the search was on. It was a nice size silver ring that should be easy to find. Beach sand shows no mercy for people that lose their rings in the sand. After spending several hours sifting through the sand in a small area. They gave up returning home.
Brittany thought that another friend who owned a metal detector could help her, but she couldn’t contact him. Next she went to Google that was how she found TheRingFinders.com . Finding my information, she called me. She told me this was a ring that she had for more than 13 years. Loosing her ring on her birthday did not make it a happy day. I could hear desperation in her voice. When she told me that it was next to lifeguard tower #7 at Huntington Beach, I went into panic mode. Then told her I would get there as soon as possible. She could not meet me until an hour later, but I could start. This beach is heavily hunted by other detectorists and the beach cleaning machines are the ruthless.
It’s the first day of Labor Day weekend and I was able to cover the area thoroughly before Brittany arrived..” No Ring “.. My phone rang, it was Brittany saying she was walking over to meet me. I looked for somebody with a maroon shirt walking my way. No lady in a maroon shirt in sight.. Here’s the lesson, I live here,  I know there are two lifeguard towers # 7.. One is on Huntington State Beach. The other is at Huntington City Beach. They are both south of Huntington Pier more than a mile apart. When she said Huntington Beach, so I assumed City beach.
This should have been a short story because when I drove to the correct tower #7. She was protecting the area. So it was a matter of a few minutes we had the ring. Unbelievable she told me. Another awesome smile with genuine gratitude for having here ring returned. Sometimes we say this is a game of inches. Today it was a game of more than a mile.. Just last week a State Lifeguard told me they often have this confusion with the tower numbers. For me, it was a lesson learned.

Sunday, after returning home from the beach, Julie realized her new white gold engagement ring was missing from her finger. It could only be at the beach where she had taken it off to put on sunscreen. Her fiancé, John went to the local sporting goods store purchasing  a metal detector. They also brought tennis rackets to sift through the sand. The search went into the night until the beach closed at 10pm. That night was a sleepless night for Julie, so she went to her Huntington Beach Community Forum to share her dilemma.
Somewhere in her search for what to do to find her precious ring, Julie located TheRingFinders.com. That was how she contacted me. John and Julie were on the beach searching early Monday morning when they called me before 7am. When I arrived they were able to put me in the exact area. The ring was back on her finger within a few minutes. Tears of joy and giant smiles from both of them.
John said he must have gone over that same area more than a half a dozen times. He had found some bottle caps, but he was completely overwhelmed with the new device. There are several basics to understand about using a metal detector. I would never tell a person to just rent or buy a metal detector. Too many variables like, other trash metals, soil conditions, settings on the detector and much more. It takes a little practice to feel comfortable using it. In most cases you will not have that much time. Why worry for more time than you should?
Julie told me she had no idea that TheRingFinders.com existed. I hear that all the time. Then asked her if she could put the word out to her friends. She posted on her Facebook forum the next thing we knew it received 1500- likes and over 200-comments. A reporter from the Orange County Register ask us to meet for an interview the next day.
My hope is that more people will know how to get their missing sentimental item found. We have members in many cities in the USA, Canada and other countries. Why worry or get upset with yourself for losing your valuable piece of jewelry. We are ready to help.. Important, Please call anytime 24/7.

Lost Ring .. Malibu, CA. .. Found in Sand

Late Thursday night at 11:30 pm Anna Called me. Asking me about how my service works. I have asked that people call me anytime, it’s important because it may make the difference of finding your ring.
She told me that her ring was lost in the dry sand at a beach in Malibu. She had picked up her beach towel stepping away from the other people to shake out the sand before packing up to leave the beach. She was sure this was when the ring came off her finger.. Her questions for me were leading me to think a metal detector wouldn’t work. My questions for her were, could she get me to the approximate location?
I could meet her as early as 6am, the next morning, but she couldn’t be there till 10am. Traffic is a factor on the Los Angeles freeways so I was there 3 hours early. Having no idea where Ana had lost her ring, I just did a general search of the places people might set up their beach camps for the day. I did find some coins and a tungsten ring with a cross design.
When Anna arrived she walked right over to the part of the beach where I had found the tungsten ring. I asked her if her ring had a cross design, she said yes. That’s when I told her I had already found her ring. She was so surprised, but it wasn’t her ring..
I proceeded with the search, but Anna had second thoughts about the location. The high tide had changed the beach and much of the dry sand had become wet. It wasn’t that large of an area so I just expanded my grid search. Ana believed that it could be out further down the slope where the water was receding as the tide was going out. I told her I would eliminate the top of the slope and wait for the tide to recede.
As we talked about taking a break to get water and sunscreen, I was still swinging the detector. One more signal, nothing special until I looked into my scoop. Yes, Ana’s ring.. She broke out into tears of gratitude. This ring was so special to her as it was a gift from her sister. Ana was also a special lady that deserves to have her ring back where it belongs. A beautiful ring with a X type design that some could call a cross. She was a little bashful about letting me take a photo of her for our book of smiles. I can tell you her smile was one for me to remember.
