Lost Ring .. Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, CA. .. Found in Sand

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Sunday  March 16, 2014

It was just before sunset and I was detecting at Pacific Beach, CA.  Actually I was talking to a couple guys that were also detecting the same beach, when I received a call from Dalya. She sounded desperate as she had lost her ring in the sand and had spent quite sometime trying to find a way to get some help trying to locate her ring. After asking her a few questions I told her I could meet her and Kile at Moonlight Beach within 45 minutes. It was only about 18 miles, but I had to walk back to my car and I wasn’t sure about the traffic.

When I arrived at the Moonlight Beach I met Dalya and Kile. They told me that they had put their cell phone, keys and her ring in Kile’s shoe.  When Kile came back to put on his shoes he removed the larger items not realizing the ring was in the shoe. He shook the sand out of his shoe and the ring.  They located me on line when they tried to see if they could rent a metal detector. It was beginning to get dark as we walked about a couple blocks to the general area. Kile said he had dumped the sand out of the shoe near the rocks pointing to a location of about 30 feet next to the rocks. I was told that the ring was silver which helps to identify the sound I will hear. My machine has a screen that will show me a number of 12-46 for a silver item. This all helps when there is a lot of trash in the search area. I made three passes along the rocks out towards the cleaner sand. Kile had thought the ring may be close to the rocks and I knew that would be a difficult search. I was 10 feet out from the rocks when I got that silver tone and a 12-46 reading on my screen. I scooped into the sand telling them, this is your ring. Held the scoop up to Dalya asking her to pick the ring out of the sand. I was awesome to see how happy she was to have her ring in her hand. You can see the smiles on the photo I was able to take of them.

Dalya told me that the ring was a gift to her from her mother when they had visited Jeusalem, Israel. I’m still amazed that we can make all this happen using the new technology that did not exist several years ago, Cell phones, Ditial Cameras, Internet, Moble maps, GPS and Modern Metal Metectors. I used a MInelab CTX 3030 metal detector to make this find.

Lost Wedding Ring Stanley Park Calgary

CTV Calgary                                      Published Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 11:58AM MDT                            Last Updated Thursday, Oct. 11,  2012 7:37PM MDT

Losing a wedding ring is a sickening feeling for anyone that’s misplaced the  piece of sentimental jewelry.

A local metal detector specialist, known as ‘The Ringfinder’, is doing his  part to end the emotional pain.

Kevin Niefer has been metal detecting for the last 25 years.

In 2011, Niefer joined the Ring Finders Network, and is the group’s  representative here in Calgary.

Niefer says he’s been quite successful helping people find their lost  rings.

He’s currently helping Alicia Tropak locate her lost wedding ring.  She  misplaced her ring on September 23, 2012, somewhere near Stanley Park.

Tropak is expecting her first child at the end of the month, and says her  fingers swell sometimes.  She took her ring off, put it in her pocket, and  lost it somewhere along her walk.

Niefer is hopeful he can find the ring using his metal detector which has a  history of locating all kinds of hidden treasures.

“And that could be jewelry or old relics like pins or chauffeurs badges, or  coins,” says Niefer.  “You never know what you’re going to dig up, and when  you dig it up, it’s thrilling.”

“Or it might be a bottle cap.”

Niefer and Tropak were unable to find the ring on this day, but will return  to expand the search.

This year alone, he has helped reunite nine couples with their rings.

Kevin Niefer uses several metal detectors to find lost wedding rings. (CBC)

Just last week, Niefer got a call from a Calgary couple that would lead him to his toughest assignment to date.

Will Hoff had lost his wedding ring in the Waiparous River near Cochrane. After about an hour of searching in the fast-moving rocky river, Niefer was able to find the ring.

“Are you freaking kidding me?” Hoff exclaimed moments after Niefer plucked his ring out of the water.

Niefer says he isn’t in it for the money. Although couples often compensate him for his efforts, he doesn’t charged them a set amount.

“When you find it and people go ‘Oh no! I can’t believe you found it!,’ That’s pretty exciting, right? And to be able to return something that sentimental — that’s the biggest reward,” Niefer said.

It was early Sunday morning I received a call I guy lost a ring. He left a message  telling me he lost his dad’s wedding band.I guess he lost it in the back yard while shooting hockey pucks with his son. He had just put it on the night before had it in a box for the last year and a half since his dad had past away.On the Friday night while out with friends his buddy was telling him how he wore his dad’s ring on a necklace around his neck to remember his dad.He liked that Idea so he just put his dad’s ring on his pinkie finger. Then that next day while playing with the kids the ring fell off.He looked for a long time couldn’t find it.He wasn’t sure if the lost it in the front yard backyard or if it went over next door.I called him back and headed out to his home.I got him to show me the area where he might of lost it. I guess the night before he couldn’t even sleep he was just sick to stomach.

The ring meant a lot to him and he had to find it. I searched the yard for about a half hour and found the ring for him. This guy was one happy dude after that. His dad had a big impact 0n him and the ring was one way to remember his dad. I was so glad to recover the gold wedding band / ring and return it to him. Kevin Niefer Calgary Alberta Canada

Lost Diamond Pendent at Trout Lake Park in Vancouver, BC

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Today at around 10am I received a call from a young lady who told me that she had lost her diamond pendent at a park not far from where I live so I jumped into my SUV and headed out to meet and hopefully find her diamond pendent.

When I arrived I was greeted by two young ladies who had set up a grid of the area they believed the pendent was in…

I started my search and I found a few targets mostly junk and then Maggie headed out to the rest room and her friend stayed behind while I was searching.

Not long after she left I received a good signal on my Whites V3I, I moved the grass to see the diamond pendent sparkling at me! I called Maggie’s girlfriend over to show her and we both just smiled…

A minute later Maggie showed up and I told her that I found a bottle cap and held up her pendent…

I love the reaction when people first see their lost item!

How special was Maggie’s diamond pendent? It was given to her 6 years ago from her boyfriend on her first year anniversary…And they are still together today!

I love my job!

Lost Breitling Watch in the Ocean at Kits Beach, Vancouver BC

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Well this was a first for me in the 18 years I’ve been offering this service here in Vancouver… Two watch searches in less then 24 hours, the first was for a Rolex that was lost in the ocean and I found that one and this search for a Breitling…Both high quality watches and both I have owned back in the day so I understood how hard that must have been on both of them.I received a call from a young man that went on to explain that he lost his Breitling Transocean at the beach a few days ago and he wanted to know if I could help. Time is always a factor and watches are easy to spot so I explained that someone could have already found the watch. Well after seeing the area the watch was lost in I decided to come back at 3am to search the low tide where he thought it was lost at…After setting up my glow sticks  on the shore so I’d have a reference markers to line up with I started my grid search. After 1 1/2 hours in the dark I received a good strong signal and as I looked into my sand scoop I saw the watch! I felt so happy that I found the watch and that I’d get to text him a picture for him to see when he woke up. Thank you very much for the kind reward Aviv!I have the greatest job in the world! I love my Job! Lost something?Call me ASAPYou can watch the video on the link below…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGJ5o0eYZe0
