Lost wedding band found in New Concord

I had another ring find adventure today in New Concord Ohio. I first have to thank Jeff Morgan (#seattleringfinder) for the encouragement and help that he gave Kendal. And thanks to Sam, the first Ringfinder, for all the time you spent looking for it. The client told me everywhere you looked so I knew the ring wasn’t there, which narrowed my search area considerably. I found it where no one would expect it!! Crazy how it got way back there!! Here is the story from Kendal.

My husband lost his wedding ring back in Nov 2019. Our golden retriever had just started jumping on cars when pulling in our driveway. As we pulled in, she started jumping on our car, so he put it in park, got out, and went to swing at her and his ring flew off his finger. (Obviously 2 big he just wouldn’t go get it sized. We have been married since Aug. 2012) We searched for hours. Days. Weeks. Had another ring finder come out. They searched for about 4-5hours. No luck. I wasn’t ready to give up. I knew 100% it was out there! I contacted Steve and he was willing to give it a shot! In less than 3 hours he FOUND it on the other side of our driveway not far from where my husband was! Whoop whoop!

Needle in a Haystack – Lost Hearing Aid Found in Paddock!

Pete was ushering some skittish cattle around a paddock yesterday, and was moving under a line of trees to get around them.    As he emerged from the low branches under the tree line he realised that his valuable hearing aid was no longer where it should be. Not the cheapest of items and subsequent efforts to comb through the grass were fruitless.
This morning, I got a message from his daughter in law asking if I would be able to assist.

Hearing aids are notoriously difficult to detect as the largest piece of metal in them is the battery – about half the size of a pea, and even then the metal is only the skin surrounding the battery chemical pastes.

I said I’d give it a go, being a very recent loss.
On arrival, I asked Pete to drop his spare earpiece on the ground so I could tune in and hopefully get a tone off it.
Instantly I heard the pops and whistles of electric fence interference – Easily sorted, and he wandered away to turn the fence off. Now I was able to only just hear the sound of the hearing aid, I had the machine running so hot in order to pick up the tiny flecks of metal in the hearing aid that I was now getting interference from the neighbours fence. Have to put up with that…
Pete had marked the area where he thought they had parted company, and I gave it a quick scan although with the background interference and a ‘million’ ancient fence staples and rusting wire fragments it was mentally exhausting work analysing everything the machine was telling me.
I retraced his path back under the line of trees before circling around to where he had emerged for a real intensive scan of the likely area, on hands and knees working the coil hard into the grass to ensure I would squeeze every last bit of signal out of the aid, should the coil pass over it.
A little over an hour after I had started searching and many false alerts, I got a small but repeatable target.
I carefully picked through the grass and saw a sliver of clear silicone tubing… A big grin crossed Petes face as I held the wayward hearing aid out to him.
The proverbial Needle in a Haystack!

iPhone Found with Metal Detector, Paihia, Bay of Islands

Brand new iPhone rescued from the tide the other morning – And it still worked after spending a day underwater!

Owner was rapt to get it back, especially as it was their last day in the Bay of Islands before continuing their holiday through New Zealand.

Received an email from Jonathan earlier in the week. He asked if I could help him learn the metal detector that he just bought. I asked what was going on. He said his wife lost a sentimental earring somewhere in their yard. He bought a detector and he tested it on the earring that she didn’t lose and it didn’t beep.

I asked what kind of earring it was. He said it was a stud earring. I told him that studs are one of the hardest things to find due to the small amount of metal. I told him that I could come out and look for him.

We decided on Saturday morning. He showed me the area that they believed it was in, it was rather large. I brought 2 machines, my Equinox 800 and my Tiger Shark. I tested on the earring that they had. Both machines registered. I searched with the Nox it came up as a 1 on the meter.

I started searching. There were a lot of targets. There was 1 area of tin foil slaw (an area of small pieces of tin foil the was probably run over with a lawn mower). That slaw came up as 1 on the Nox.

Just over an hour into the search I was at the swing set. I got a 1 on the Nox. Looked through the grass and saw the earring. The post was bent. I had placed the other earring in a plastic baggie so I would lose it and could place it on the ground to test it. I put the one I just found in it and started walking to my truck.

Jonathan came out of the house and said I guess you didn’t find it. I asked if there was anywhere else that she might have been. I asked if they went through her car? I said let me give you this one back. He started to put the bag in his pocket without looking at it.

I said I might have bent the post. so he looked at the bag. The look on his face when he saw 2 earrings in the bag was priceless. He might be trading in his metal detector for a better one.

Lost Ring Found Ocean City NJ By John Favano

I was approached by Adriana’s father and he asked if could help find his daughters lost silver claddagh ring. She had taken the ring off and placed it in her backpack and then went to get something out of the bag and the ring fell out. The ring is now back on the finger.

Nantucket’s sand could not hide a ring for long before it was Found and Returned.

Rain, thunder, lightening and other commitments started Friday off as a non-detecting day. But for an out of state phone call … A request for help in finding a very sentimental engagement ring which belonged to the caller’s mother had been lost in the ocean. The loss occurred at the base of the Steps Beach, an hour ferry ride away. Having a day to make reservations, pack a detecting bag, complete what I had to do, get a good nights rest, and to think about how the ring I was going to search for was lost. Every ring has a story and this one was no exception.

Jeff had worn his mother’s rings since her passing, I could not let Jeff down. It was Jeff’s youngest son who had unintentionally pulled on the necklace holding the two precious rings which came apart and sent the rings flying. The wedding band was found in seconds, before the moving sand covered it unlike the engagement ring that had disappeared out of sight. Something more than hands sifting the sand was needed. A pool skimmer net was tried next without success in snagging the ring from its sandy resting place be for I arrived.

Jeff’s 9 year old son had a detector but had no luck in using it on the wet sand. With this information I knew I would be able to show and tell about some of my finds and pass some detecting techniques onto a young, budding detectorist.

In just under an hour of searching starting at Google Maps pinned point which was not as accurate as we would have liked. GPS satellite co-ordinates are only good to about a 15 foot radius and the pin showed the ring should be in the water. I started in the water working parallel to the shore, up the face of the beach revealed only a few targets of melted aluminum and pull tabs. Not a single coin or the ring. I then started searching 90 degrees to my previous paths.

While digging a promising target I overheard Jeff talking with another beach goer about how he had lost his wedding band several years ago, rented a detector and found his own ring. “There was hope, the guy detecting (me) has a good chance of finding the lost ring.” He was trying to keep Jeff’s spirits up.

Little did they know the promising target was THE RING and it was in my scoop! Without any fanfare I walked over to the two men, joined in the conversation. Jeff thought I was giving up and it was time to call it a day. I said “almost, not just yet until you look in my scoop” … I’ll let you imagine the emotions from all members of Jeff, his wife and three children.

Time was left to snap a few photos, clean up, grab a wonderful island lunch. I did a bit of show and tell and left a few “treasures” with the young detectorist which he was sharing with his sister. It was then time for the walk to the ferry boarding area and board the ferry that would take me back to the main land. During the hour ride I was sure I would be pondering over the wonderful feeling of how a terrible happening was turn into a great day on one beautiful island with one terrific family. I am pretty sure I will hear of a young detectorist doing fabulous things in the near future.
