Lost wedding ring doing yard work, Brigantine NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

I got a call today from a fellow ring finder who covers the area further south of me. He had prior commitments and couldn’t make it to do search right away, so he asked if I could take the call for him. I agreed and reached out to the person in need, Robert.

On the phone, Robert explained that he had been doing yard work, digging in three different garden beds, when he noticed a hole in his glove and realized his wedding ring was missing. I told him I could be there in about an hour, and he said that would be perfect.

When I arrived, Robert showed me the first location where he had been doing some digging around , which was the same spot where he first noticed the ring was gone. I explained that rings are not always in the spot where people first realize they’re missing, but this is a good spot to start, as it’s the most likely. . After quickly searching the area, including the hole where the bush had been planted, I didn’t find anything.

Next, we moved to another small garden bed on the other side of the house. This area had a lot of metal interference. There was a four-inch metal border around the bed and a nearby gas meter causing all kinds of signals. Still, after carefully checking, I was fairly certain the ring wasn’t there either. We quickly move on to the last garden area, and had the same results there.

I explained to Robert that since his glove had a hole, the ring could have slipped off anywhere throughout his day. He had assumed it would be in the area where he was digging, but I told him that’s not always the case, and we needed to consider all locations where he had been making pulling, pushing, or tugging motions.

When I mentioned searching the whole yard, he looked a little overwhelmed. But I reassured him that my 15-inch coil would help speed up the process. Then I asked him where else he had been that involved movement that could have dislodged the ring. He mentioned being near the bird feeder but was convinced it wouldn’t be out there.

We walked to the backyard, and he showed me exactly what he had been doing. He had dumped water from the bird feeder in a specific area. I started scanning around the platform where the feeder sat with no luck. I then moved slightly to the left, swung my detector once or twice, and there it was, his wedding ring, just to the left of the bird feeder!

I suspect that when he dumped the water, his ring slipped off and fell into the garden bed. This is a great example of why it’s  so important to carefully retrace a persons steps and focus on motions that could have caused the ring to slip off. More often than not, lost rings aren’t where people expect them to be, they’re  hiding somewhere unexpected and just need to be tracked down.

Nicole called me around 8:30 p.m., clearly upset about losing her beautiful engagement ring on the beach earlier in the day. She’d been there with her children, enjoying a beautiful fall day, when she removed her ring to apply sunblock, setting it on her lap. In the flurry of activity, she forgot about the ring, got up, and went down to the water to grab a bucket for her son. Returning to the area where her chairs were set up,  she remembered the ring and began searching everywhere, but it was nowhere to be found.

After returning home, she was talking to a friend, who follows my page, and recommended that Nichole contact me, reassuring her that my success rate was phenomenal. After Nicole explained all the details, I told her there was a very good chance I could find it. Checking the tide charts, we decided it would be best to wait for the following afternoon’s low tide to begin the search.

When we met at the beach, Nichole took me to where she’d been the previous day. I started by searching around the chair setup, then moved to the area where her children had been playing, but with no luck. I expanded the search down the hill, about 20 feet wide, toward the water’s edge and then waded out to mid-calf depth, still with no results.

Nicole was beginning to lose hope, but I assured her that the ring had to be nearby. Considering that the current had been moving north, I expanded the search in that direction, moving from high to low tide marks. Just a few steps in, I picked up a signal and hoped it might be her ring. Sure enough, it was.

Nichole’s son, who had been showing his mother every target I had dug, was waiting patiently to see what this signal might be. I leaned over and quietly told him it was moms ring, and to reach into my scoop, take out the ring, and keep it hidden in his hand. When he finally opened his hand for his mom, her expression was priceless—pure joy. Moments like this are what make recovering people’s sentimental items so rewarding.

Ring Finder Metal detector Dockside Wedding Ring Recovery After 3 Weeks Under Ice

While enjoying a vacation in Mexico, I noticed a Facebook post from a gentleman named Tom who was desperately searching for help recovering his wedding ring. The ring had bounced off the end of his dock while he was feeding the seagulls and disappeared into the river below.

I reached out and let him know I would gladly help once I returned home. Tom said that would be fine and planned to contact me in about a week.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.

Shortly after the loss, we went into a deep freeze and both the river and bay froze solid for nearly three weeks. The ring sat beneath the ice the entire time.

Once conditions improved, Tom contacted me and we carefully went over all the details — water depth, bottom composition, current conditions, and any obstacles near the dock. He mentioned there were a few rocks at the end of the pier where the ring had fallen. I didn’t anticipate that being much of an issue.

But when I arrived and suited up, I quickly realized there were far more than “a few rocks.”

For quite some time, the family had been tossing softball-sized rocks off the end of the dock, unknowingly creating what looked like an artificial reef directly below where the ring had fallen. The rocks were piled high at the exact drop zone.

Thankfully, I received a strong signal almost immediately — and it was the only signal in the area. The target was located right at the edge of the rock pile.

Working carefully, I had to move several rocks by hand in frigid water to isolate the signal. After six to eight precise scoops — making sure no rocks interfered — I finally lifted the scoop and saw gold.

Tom stood there in disbelief as his wedding ring emerged from the water.

We were extremely fortunate the ring had landed on the outer edge of the rock pile. Had it fallen deeper into the center of the stones, this recovery would have been far more complicated.

A successful recovery after three weeks under ice — and a great way to start the new year.

Maureen called to see if I could help find her husband’s wedding ring, which she had accidentally dropped in the sand earlier that day. Early one morning, around 3 a.m., I noticed a text from Rachel. She was distraught, having lost her beautiful engagement ring during a visit to an orchard the day before. We agreed to meet early, before the orchard opened, to avoid the crowds.

I arrived at the orchard ahead of time and found the owner to request permission to search the areas where she’d been. I received a call from Bill regarding a lost cell phone at one of the local parks. He had spent the day enjoying the outdoors, but when he returned home, he realized his phone was missing. As most people know, losing a cell phone can be a nightmare — not just because of the cost, but because of all the important information, photos, and contacts stored inside.

Bill reached out to me, hoping I could help since he wasn’t in the area and had important business to take care of. I told him I’d be happy to head over and take a look. When I arrived, I started my search in the general area where he had been sitting earlier in the day.

The grass was extremely tall due to the recent stretch of rainy weather, which had delayed mowing in the park. I began my search, knowing that a phone usually sits on top of the grass but can easily disappear in tall overgrowth. After about 25 minutes of careful searching, I received a strong signal — and there it was! The phone was completely hidden in the long grass.

Luckily, I recovered it before the park staff came through with the mowers. If they had cut the grass first, the phone would have been destroyed and all his data lost — much of which wasn’t backed up to the cloud.

How to find a lost ring in yard debris, Princeton NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

I noticed a post on one of the lost jewelry pages about a missing wedding ring, lost somewhere in the backyard within a pile of yard debris. Someone had tagged me on the post, and later, Cheryl gave me a call. She explained that her husband, John, had been doing yard work, moving logs, branches, and leaves  when he realized later that day his wedding ring was missing.

John was 99% sure the ring was in the yard and had a pretty good idea of where it might be. He believed he had felt it pull off his hand when he threw some debris. I asked Cheryl to send me a short video to make sure Id be able to swing my metal detector in the dense thicket where the ring might have landed. From the video, everything looked manageable, so we arranged to meet the following morning.

When I arrived, John and Cheryl came outside to greet me. I grabbed my equipment, and we walked out to the backyard. I had John recount exactly what happened a few times to make sure I had all the details. His story on the phone matched what he told me in the backyard, which gave me confidence that the ring was out there.

I got to work right away. After quickly scanning some larger areas and checking along the back fence, I only picked up a few signals, none consistent with a platinum ring. But then, I spotted a large pile of leaves and small sticks about three feet from the back fence. It looked promising, especially since John had mentioned pulling debris with his bare hands in that spot.

I scanned over the pile and picked up a strong, steady signal. It could have been the ring, though there was a chance it was just a pull tab. I cleared an area where the signal was strongest, digging down about two feet. Sure enough, at the very bottom of the pile, I found John’s ring.

Meanwhile, John and Cheryl were chatting by the pool about yard work. I cleaned the ring off a bit, stood up, and held it high to show them. Cheryls eyes widened, and she immediately said, I can’t believe you found it already! Where was it?

They both hurried over, and I showed them the cleared area in the middle of the leaf pile. They were absolutely stunned at how quickly I had found the ring.

I explained that preparation and listening carefully to the customer are key to a successful search. Narrowing down the possible locations allows me to focus on the most likely spots first, which saves a lot of time and effort.

Finding lost items isn’t just about luck it’s about methodical searching and trusting the process.

I received a call from Jason regarding his lost wedding ring, which he believed had come off while doing yard work. Jason explained that he had been raking leaves, dumping them at the curb, and moving between his house, garage, and yard. In between, he had also been playing ball with his son. There was even a chance the ring could have fallen through the deck boards into the leaves below.

Jason was heading out for a long weekend, and with the township potentially vacuuming up the leaves, time was of the essence. I rearranged my schedule to meet him that afternoon. When I arrived, we had about 15 minutes before Jason had an hour-long client meeting, so we quickly reviewed his activities and the specific areas he had been in. He also informed me he borrowed a detector from a friend and had no luck. He also showed me the garage, where he had removed his gloves, and the backyard, where he had been playing with his son.

After gathering my equipment, I set my machine for shallow depth, as the ring wouldn’t be far beneath the surface. I started with the leaf piles at the curb, then made quick passes through the side and front yards, but had no luck. Moving to the backyard, where the most activity had taken place, I received a promising signal on my first pass.

I cleared a few leaves and some dirt to reveal Jason’s wedding ring, just under the surface. It appeared the ring had come off when he removed his catcher’s mitt and accidentally stepped on it, pushing it slightly into the ground.

I messaged Jason immediately, and he came down before his meeting. He was amazed that the ring had been found so quickly. I explained how careful detective work to narrow down the most likely spots was key to a successful recovery. Jason was ecstatic to have his ring back, especially before leaving for his trip.

Flagpole Receiver found with Metal Detector, Bricktown NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

I received a text from Jayne about a unique recovery. Two months earlier, she had removed the flagpole from her front yard but later couldn’t locate the buried receiver when she wanted to hang a special new flag. After searching extensively on her own without success, Jayne reached out for help.

I arranged to visit a few days later while in her area. When I arrived, Jayne showed me the approximate location of the receiver. I searched for about 20 minutes but didn’t have any luck. At that point, I asked her to find old photos showing the flagpole when it was still in place. Using the photos, I was able to visually mark the likely location and narrow down the search area significantly.

I adjusted my detector for maximum sensitivity and began searching again. After just a few swings, I located the receiver buried under the grass. Jayne was absolutely thrilled! She immediately grabbed her flagpole and proudly hung her new flag.

This recovery was a reminder that it’s not just jewelry or valuables I recover—items like flagpole receivers, property markers, and even sprinkler heads can be found with the right tools and techniques. If it’s metallic, there’s a good chance I can recover it!
