I received a call from Saba about her lost wedding ring. She had been at a surf camp earlier in the day, and put her rings into a bag so they would not get lost. When they were ready to leave the bag was lifted, and the rings fell into the sand and disappeared. She and her friends looked and were able to find her engagement ring, but not the wedding band. I let her know that I could come immediately, but she said she might buy a detector also in order to search herself. I did try to discourage that action, because most of the time it just discourages the people I want to help when they try to use equipment they are not used to.

When I got to the beach Saba and her friends met me and showed me where the group had been, and where they had found the other ring. I geared up to do the search, and out came the detector she had purchased. They did try, but to no avail. I searched for about 15 minutes in a tight grid with them working right in front of me the whole way. Right behind them I received a great signal in an area that was searched by their detector just minutes before. I dug, and in my scoop was Saba’s ring. Needless to say she was very happy to have it back!

Ryan was at the beach with his wife, and they lost their house key, which made it impossible to get into the house without calling a locksmith. He called and asked if I could help, and I let him know that I would be right over to do a search for him.

I got to the beach, and Ryan met me and took me to the spot that they had been earlier. He showed me where they had been sitting, and I could see where they had unsuccessfully searched themselves. It took all but about 2 minutes to find the key for him, and have him on his way to be able to enter their house. Ryan was certainly pleased at the quickness of the find.

Berry called me about some lost keys in the sand on the beach. His son had been there the night before and lost his keys. He was unable to find them when he went back to look. I let Berry know that I would meet them there to do a search.

I met Berry and his son Rick at beach at the arranged time. We walked out to the area where Rick thought the keys were lost, and showed me approximately what had happened. I began my search in the area I was shown, and after about 10 minutes was unable to find them. They expanded the search area, and I began to go further from the original area, but again was unable to find the keys, so I began to search down closer to the water. After about 4 passes, and going back in the opposite search direction, I got the signal I was looking for, dug, and had Rick’s keys in my scoop. I was able to give him his very expensive electronic key back which made him a very happy man!

Dan had lost his wedding ring while gardening in his yard, and asked if I would do a search for him. I let him know that I would be happy to do so, and we arranged a time for the search.

I got to his house at the appointed time, and Dan showed me where he thought the ring had come off. It was in a thick bunch of geraniums in a long planter in front of his house. He had trimmed the plants, and believed the ring came off during the process. I searched the planter very carefully, but there was a bunch of metal mesh for the support of the plants that was making a complete search impossible. I searched the grass in front of the planter in case the ring had fallen there. I also searched the clippings to see if he might have thrown it out with them; no ring. Dan asked if I could come back if he were able to remove the metal mesh from the planter, and I said I would.

I got a call from Dan a week later that he had cleaned out the planter. Well when I got there I saw that he had certainly cleaned out the planter. Not only did he remove the mesh, he also cut the geraniums down almost to their roots. I again searched the planter; no ring. I went and searched the clippings; no ring. So I began a search of the grass in front of the planter, got a good signal, reached in with the pin pointer, and there it was. It must have fallen when Dan moved all of the foliage from the planter. Scored on the second try, and he was happy to have his ring again!

I got a call from Marko in the morning. He had lost his ring at the beach, and was hoping I would be able to recover it for him. We discussed the loss, and I found out it had happened about 4 days before the call. I wasn’t very hopeful of a recovery because this is one of those beaches that is cleaned regularly by the county machines, but Marko had not lost hope, and asked if I would do the search anyway. I said that I would, and we agreed on a time to meet.

Marko arrived shortly after I did. I had looked out over the sand, and the site was pretty dismal with the smoothed sand from the machines. Marko had me follow him to the area where he believed he lost his ring, and as we walked things did not look any better. Finally after about a 1/4 mile walk he took me over to an area that had a communications pole right in the middle of it, and all the machine tracks had completely avoided the area. I looked at Marko with a smile, and said it looks like we might have a chance of a recovery. About 2 minutes later Marko had his ring back. What a great recovery!

Diamond Earring and Wrap, Lost, Found and Returned – Bourne, MA

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

October 22, 2021
Unfortunately it is that time of year again, one requiring the relocation of fallen leaves. Christine’s task for the beautiful day was to move the fallen leaves from the lawn and into the woods, Over the summer one tree branch grew over the path to the composting pile. Christine’s diamond earring snagged on the new branch and was dislodged from her ear. All her and her super sleuth son’s searching did not located the earring.

Help from the internet search brought up Leighton’s and my names in her local area. Leighton was in Connecticut so I headed out on a solo search with my small 4 inch coil and hand held pin-pointer. I used Christine’s matching earring to notch select only a response that the earring’s presence under the detector’s coil would produce. My first target was a piece of solder, the second a piece of tinfoil and the third was the two piece earring still together.

Pictures taken and stories exchanged completed the return as the earring was replaced in its normal resting place. On my way home I could not get my mind off the branch. I have to believe Christine will cut it back so does not overhang the path which I am sure will be used several more times this fall.\

College Ring Lost 2 years ago, was Found and Returned – Dennis, MA

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

October 15, 2021
This return was one that I had not been called to help find. It was what detectorists call a “Natural Find”. I found the Bentley College ring in the shallow waters of a Cape Cod beach.

The ring had what I and others thought to be two dates 85 and 99, and owner’s entire name inscribed on it. Searching the internet I located a Facebook page listing several possible relatives and friends name and one address for Rhonda. These were starting points which none of the messages I sent to listed Facebook names prompted a reply. In desperation I went to the address that had no sign of life. However a neighbor, Jeff, was home and said he would put a picture of the ring I found and owner’s name in the area newsletter.

At home I E-mail the information to Jeff and with in two hours I had Rhonda’s E-mail address. In another hour or so an E-mail from Rhonda with her phone number was in my In Box. I called Rhonda and we arranged for the return to take place the next day. I was also told the story of how the ring was lost and the meaning of the two dates. The first year, 85, is not a year but the letters BS which stands for Bachelor of Science. Unfortunately Rhonda’s work trumped the ring’s return as she had to “go off Cape” before we could meet. Fortunately, Fran her husband, would stand-in and the return was made.

Some Natural Finds are impossible to return. Some returns are easier to complete and some have a learning lesson to be had. In this return I learned several tips and tricks in locating a person on social media. In this return a personal contact, Jeff, was the main factor in reuniting Rhonda with her ring.

The Tale of a Found Wedding Ring: A Bell Canyon Recovery Story

  • from Santa Barbara (California, United States)
Title: Dave MacDonald: Lost Ring Recovery Expert in Bell Canyon & Malibu
An email from davetheringfinder.com interrupted my day with Jourdan’s heartfelt plea: her wedding ring had slipped over her balcony railing into the steep canyon below her Bell Canyon home, a hidden gem near Los Angeles. As Dave MacDonald the Ringfinder, I’ve tackled lost ring recovery in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and beyond—I was determined to help. We quickly set a meeting at her Bell Canyon residence.
The canyon’s jagged rocks and thick brush—echoing the wild terrains of Calabasas and Lost Hills—tested my skills. My first four-hour search sifted through metal junk across Westlake Village-like slopes, but the ring stayed hidden. I returned, undeterred, with Jourdan. We recreated the ring’s fall using decoys, a trick I’ve honed in Encino and Malibu, narrowing its path.
Hours later, my metal detector pinged faintly in a dense thicket—a glimmer of hope. Navigating the undergrowth like I’ve done in Thousand Oaks, I found it: Jourdan’s wedding ring, shining in the sunlight. With a prayer of thanks, I handed it to her, her joy ringing through Bell Canyon. This is lost ring recovery at its best.

Family Heirloom Ring Found Along With Two Other Rings

  • from Reading (Pennsylvania, United States)

As I was searching for another wedding band in a corn play area, the owner Jennifer told me about another ring that was lost about a month prior. It was an old family heirloom ring that an 11 year old girl was wearing and lost it in the corn pit play area. I first found Katie’s wedding band who had found me through TheRingFinders website. I then continued to search the entire play area and after about 30 minutes in the cold and wind, I found a very nice looking ring. I gave the ring along with my business cards to Jennifer so she could secure it and contact the owner. Even though I have not met or spoke to this owner, I’m sure they’ll be very happy getting their ring back. I have been to this same area twice and have found 4 rings in total. I just love reuniting lost jewelry to their rightful owners. Call me at 610-207-8677 for any lost jewelry in Central and Eastern Pennsylvania.
