“Called John at 2:30pm at the beach in Stone Harbor the day after my brother-in-law lost his wedding ring in the ocean. John was here in 20 minutes. Thirty minutes later, after a lot of walking back and forth in the water, he FOUND IT!!!! Amazing, highly recommended. He is also a great guy!”

Sterling Silver Engagement Ring AND Key Fob Lost In Range Pond State Park, Found With A Metal Detector In Poland, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿšจ THE IMPOSSIBLE DOUBLE RECOVERY AT Range Pond State Park! ๐Ÿšจ

Cheryl, Gary, and I love our jobsโ€”we truly have the best job in the world. ๐ŸŒŠ

It all started on July 8th when I received a phone call from Vanessa, a Ranger at Range Pond State Park in Poland, Maine … ๐Ÿ“ž

๐Ÿ”‘ A Tourist Stranded & A Rental Car Stuck

The day before, a tourist from Texas had been enjoying the beautiful, serene lake while floating around on an inner-tube style flotation device. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Suddenly, disaster struck. His rental car key fob and keys slipped out of his swim trunk pocket and vanished into the water! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

To make matters worse:

The Search Area: Vanessa warned me the area he had been swimming in was massive.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธThe Stakes: The rental car was still stranded at the park because that was the only set of keys the agency had given him! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ”’

I told Vanessa I would be there as soon as I could pack my gear and drive the one hour to the park. I immediately called Gary Hill for backup, and his response was instant: โ€œOn my way, Iโ€™ll meet you there!โ€ ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿ’ The Plot Thickens: A Second Missing Treasure

When I arrived, the booth attendant was expecting me. She told me Gary had just arrived, but then she dropped a bombshell question:
โ€œWere you told that a few weeks ago, someone lost their silver engagement ring in the lake?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I had no idea! She told me the park staff still had the owner’s contact info. If we found it, they could return it.I smiled and thought, โ€œAlright then, let’s go find a key fob and an engagement ring. A two-for-one type of deal!โ€ ๐ŸŽฏโœจ

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ The Grid: Searching a “Football Field” in deep water

When we met up with Vanessa down by the shore, we realized the true scale of the challenge. The search area was larger than a football field! ๐Ÿˆ

Covering an area that size on dry land is tough enough, but doing it in water feels impossible. We knew we would need a miracle to find either item, let alone both. Fortunately, the water was extremely clear with a beautiful sandy bottom, and the lake was nice and warm. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Because a large group of local city summer camp kids was playing near the tourist’s entry point, we had to adjust our boundaries. We used a large tree and a water fountain up on the shore as our east and west markers:

I started out deep near the buoys. ๐Ÿฆบ

Gary started mid-water, working eastward slightly to my right.

We began making our grid passes. No keys or engagement ring on the first pass, but the lake was already giving up secrets!

I found a small sterling silver ring with CZ stones, while Gary dug up coins and typical beach trash like pull tabs and foil.๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

After a few more passes, I found another ringโ€”this one stainless steelโ€”along with an earring and more coins.

Gary was finding plenty of coins, but no jewelry yet. ๐Ÿช™

๐Ÿ’ฅ The Miracle Double-Strike!

We had been in the water for about 45 minutes and were almost finished with our first section. As I swung my detector, something about 7 to 8 feet ahead caught my eye. ๐Ÿ‘€

Amidst the stark white sand, there was a strange black object resting on the bottom. A tree branch? Bark? Trash? ๐Ÿชต

I kept swinging my coil and advanced toward it. The moment the coil passed over the object, my machine screamed! ๐Ÿ”Š

I leaned over in the stomach-deep water to get a closer look. I squinted through the ripples, and my heart stoppedโ€”IT WAS THE KEY FOB AND KEYS! Are you kidding me?! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™Œ

I scooped them up, held them high in the air, and yelled over to Cheryl and Gary. Gary rushed over, grinning from ear to ear as I handed them to him. ๐Ÿ”‘๐ŸŽ‰

We stood there celebrating for a moment. As we were about to turn and leave the spot, I gave my detector one last casual swing over the exact same area.

BEEP! ๐Ÿšจ
Another targetโ€”less than a foot away! I plunged my scoop into the sand, lifted it, and let the white sand sift through the holes, in the scoop. Staring up at me from the bottom of the scoop was a beautiful engagement ring! ๐Ÿ’โœจ

Seriously!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I hadnโ€™t even taken a single step forward, and I pulled the lost engagement ring from the depths of the lake! I checked inside the band, saw the “925” stamp, and knew instantly it was the sterling silver ring lost weeks prior.

Talk about being lucky! The two missing items had ended up less than a foot apart in a massive lake. What are the absolute odds of that? As the saying goes, “Better lucky than good!” ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

๐Ÿ’Œ Grateful Rangers & Happy Owners

Once out of the water, we met up with Vanessa and another ranger named Walter. I actually met Walter the previous year when I recovered a gold ring at the same park!

Walter is a massive fan of The Ring Finders of Maine Facebook page and keeps my business card right in his wallet. He promised us that whenever anyone reports a lost item to the park staff, we will be the very first phone call. Thank you, Walter! ๐Ÿชช๐Ÿค

Vanessa took the recovered treasures straight to the front office to notify the incredibly relieved owners. Later that day, she sent me this wonderful message:

โ€œThank you so much for coming so promptly. They picked up their keys this afternoon and were very happy and incredibly thankful for your service. It is a great service you provide. So… Thank you and Gary for all you do.โ€ ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ

Remember: If it matters to you, it matters to us. ๐Ÿคโš“

Metal Detector Used to Find Lost Ring in Clarksville TN

  • from Nashville (Tennessee, United States)

Ryan called me on July 22nd and asked if I would travel from Nashville to his home Clarksville TN to look for his platinum wedding band. He lost it three months ago in his back yard when he was throwing an apple over the back fence for the local deer to eat. Ryan did what many people do and ordered a metal detector online and tried finding his ring with it. He did find some small metal objects buried in his yard, but was unable to locate his ring. I was able to find Ryanโ€™s ring for him in about an hour. Both he and his wife were very happy and excited that Ryan could get the elusive ring back on his finger. Being able to reunite someone with something that is very sentimental to them when they had all but given up hope on ever seeing it again is very rewarding and I enjoy it immensely.

Found Wedding Band in Central Vt

7/24/26

Got a message from a lady who was tending her domestic ducks when she felt her wedding ring fall off. She and her husband looked for a couple weeks, by eye, raking and using a metal detector. Much to their surprise and frustration, couldnโ€™t find it.

So, I went right over after work, she showed me the area and I got started. There were lots of signals in the ground to make it challenging. There also was a fair amount of mud and wood chips that could easily hide a ring, which is why they hadnโ€™t found it.

After investigating a few so-so signals, I got a great gold tone that was double beeping. I showed her the spot, she pushed the shovel in and turned the clump over. There it was about 2โ€ down in the soft soil!

The pressure was on me on this search, because they had just bought a house and were going to be moving out of the rental house in a few days. Now they wonโ€™t have to worry about moving without her ring!

Wedding ring lost and found in Boothbay Harbor Maine

  • from Rockport (Maine, United States)

I received a call from Kim after her husband Sal dropped his wedding ring between the planks on the ย foot bridge into Boothbay Harbor. I was able to quickly locate the ring in 6 feet of water and ensure this newly married couple who were on their honeymoon would return home with only good memories. This was my second recovery at this very same location, having located a diamond and onyx ring a year or two ago that was lost under identical circumstances.

14K Gold Stud Earring Recovered in Woodstock Il!

  • from Rockford (Illinois, United States)

On Thursday 23rd I received a call from Jun. He asked me if I could possibly located a 14k gold stud earring that he had lost 3 days ago in his front yard.ย  I told him that earrings can be very difficult to detect because there isn’t very much metal to detect, but I told him that I would be willing to give it a shot. My hopes went way up when he told me that he knew when and how it came out! Turns out he was near a fruit tree and had 2 bees buzzing near his ear and as he ran away he swatted at the bees he hit his ear and knocked out his earring! Luckily when I arrived I asked him if it was from a set and if he had a matching earring to it. He said that he did! So I scanned the sister stud (35) and the sister keeper (32). Plus he knew almost exactly where he was when it all happened! So I did a small slow grid search of the area. Within a few minutes I got a slight whisper of a 35 on my Dฤ’US II metal detector! So I searched the grass with my pinpointer and finally found the big 14k gold stud!! Now to find the keeper!! It didn’t take long to search around the area where the earring was to hear a whisper of a 32! In short order we had the missing keeper piece too!!

My First successful earring recovery!!!

Success!!

Another smile for the book!!!

Lost Pendants West Orange, NJ… Found!!!

๐Ÿ™ Half the Mission Accomplished. – Shout out to @njringfinder for the lead on this one.
Not every recovery ends with everything being found, and that’s just the reality of this metal detecting.
Tom reached out after losing two gold pendants while golfing at Francis A. Byrne Golf Course. He was wearing a chain with a circular religious pendant and his great-grandfather’s gold cross when, sometime during the first four holes, the clasp came undone.
Thankfully, the chain stayed around his neck. Unfortunately, both pendants were gone.
That’s when Greenwood Detecting got the call. ๐Ÿ“ž
Our first trip focused on the first four holes where Tom believed the pendants had fallen. After a thorough search, we came up empty.
On the second trip, we decided to focus on the fourth hole. That’s where Tom first noticed the chain hanging around his neck. We concentrated on the area where he had taken his second shot, and this time we got a great signal. ๐ŸŽฏ
A few minutes later, we recovered the circular religious pendant! โœจ๐Ÿ™
We were convinced the gold cross had to be nearby.
We searched the surrounding area over and over, then returned two more times to expand the search. We covered every area that made sense, but despite our best efforts, Tom’s great-grandfather’s cross never turned up.
Recoveries like this are bittersweet. We’re incredibly thankful we were able to return one meaningful piece of jewelry, but we never like leaving a search with unfinished business.
So here’s where you can help. ๐Ÿ‘‡
If you were golfing at Francis A. Byrne Golf Course and happened to find a gold cross pendant, please reach out. Even if you find it weeks, months, or years from now, I’d love to hear from you. We know exactly who it belongs to, and would love nothing more than to reunite Tom with this special family heirloom. โค๏ธ
Treasure hunting is full of incredible wins, but it also keeps us humble. Sometimes you find everything. Sometimes you only find part of the story. Either way, we’ll always give it everything we’ve got.

Lost Wedding Ring Lake Mohawk, NJ… Found!!!

  • from Millburn (New Jersey, United States)
Another day, another treasure returned to its owner. โค๏ธ
We recently received a call from Erin, who had lost one of her gold rings during a family gathering in Clark, NJ.
She had spent the day enjoying time with family, playing on the bocce
ball court, hanging with the kids, and making memories. At one point during the day, she bent down to pick up a toy the child she was carrying had dropped. Somewhere in the mix, her ring fell off.
She searched everywhere she could think of, but despite everyone’s best efforts, the ring had seemingly vanished.
Since we couldn’t make it out that same day, we jumped on a video call and walked through the property together. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Erin showed us the areas she had been throughout the day and helped narrow down the most likely search location.
When we arrived, it was time to get to work. ๐Ÿ”Ž
After about 30 minutes, we got the signal we were hoping for. Gold! โœจ๐Ÿ’
Even better, Erin’s memory of where everything happened was right on the money. The ring was exactly where she thought it would be.
Recoveries like this are why we love what we do. Every search is a new adventure, every signal is a little mystery, and every successful recovery feels like finding buried treasure. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธโœจ There is nothing better than handing a priceless keepsake back to its owner and seeing the smile that follows.
If you’ve lost a ring, jewelry, keys, or another valuable item, don’t lose hope. Sometimes your treasure is only one good signal away.

Lost Wedding Ring Noe Pond Club, Chatham NJ… Found!!!

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’ A Photo Finish Ring
Recovery at Noe Pond Club!
Some recoveries come right down to the wire, and this was definitely one of them.
We received a call from a woman who had lost her gold ring while spending the day with her infant son at Noe Pond Club in Chatham, NJ.
While enjoying the water, she felt the ring start to slide off her finger. She was able to catch it, adjust it, and put it back on, thinking the problem was solved.
Unfortunately, sometime later, the ring slipped off for good and disappeared into the sandy bottom of the pond.
That’s when Greenwood Detecting got the call. ๐Ÿ“ž
About 30 minutes later, we were on site, and she walked us through exactly where she had been in the water. The search area was surprisingly well defined, so we got right to work. ๐Ÿ”Ž๐ŸŒŠ
One thing became obvious pretty quickly… this part of the pond had ever seen a metal detector before! ๐Ÿ˜„
Before we ever found the ring, we had already recovered more than $2 in change from the sandy bottom. ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ’ฐ
Then the clock started working against us.
The final horn sounded, signaling that the pond was closing for the day. We knew we were down to our last
few chances.
One scoop…
Nothing.
A second scoop…
โœจ๐Ÿ’ There it was.
That bright gold ring was sitting in the scoop, shining back at us.
Talk about a photo finish! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ
Recoveries like this remind us why we love what we do. Every search is an adventure, every signal builds the excitement, and sometimes the best recoveries happen just when it feels like time is running out.
If you’ve lost a ring, jewelry, keys, or another valuable item, don’t give up. Sometimes your treasure is just one scoop away.
