Amanda was pulling weeds around her backyard and later realized that her very special ring was not on her finger. This ring was her grandmothers ring and was then passed down to her mother and later to Amanda. She was heart broken and for a month she thought about it often and it was a continuous ache in her heart. A friend who lives up north heard about Amanda’s situation and found theringfinders.com web site and sent her my number. We made arrangements and it took a good 25 minutes to search the area and as I was finishing up the back yard I got a sharp, clear signal along the wooden fence and as I pushed my Garrett AT pin pointer down into the grass I could see just a small glimmer of gold and sure enough, there was Amanda’s lost gold heirloom ring, tucked down in the grass where no one could have ever possible spotted it just by looking. Amanda was overjoyed and all smiles as she slipped her ring back on her finger. How I thank God for allowing me to find Amanda’s lost gold heirloom ring and for being a part of her joy and happiness!

10 Property Stakes/Markers found on Heavily Wooded 200 Acre Property – Green Sea SC

I got a call from Jeff, the owner of JD Metal Detecting asking if I could help a couple find some property markers. The couple had shown up at his shop looking for a detector and Jeff suggested they talk to me. I jumped at the chance to help; I grabbed 3 different detectors, my pin pointer, and my digging knife and was on my way.

When I arrived, I met Brock and Ce-Ce waiting for me on a barren piece of property. Looking at the200 acre plot of land, we identified the front three markers and went from there. After about two hours of trudging through heavily wooded, tall grass and some swampy areas, we found the 10 markers we were looking for. All the markers identified Brock’s two lots and the dividing line between him and the other property owner, Although we didn’t see any snakes, I’m sure they were there someplace. Brock and Ce-Ce have some big plans on clearing the land and building a beautiful home there.

Diamond Wedding Ring Lost in Gorham, Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

Tuesday morning, April 15th, it was raining outside. I would be driving my 8 year old granddaughter to school and then continuing to Market Basket and Hannaford’s, in Biddeford, Maine with a honey do shopping list. As I arrived at the school, I noticed I had a voicemail, from 13 minutes earlier.

The voicemail was from someone named Tom. Tom explained, on the voicemail, that he is in the process of building a house and had lost his wedding ring, the previous day at the construction site. The crew needed to start in, on the leech bed and septic system but unfortunately there was too much wood, metal and other building materials, in the way. So Tom started picking up the construction materials and debris and throwing it into a trailer and also stacking some on a pile of wood. At the end of the day, as Tom was getting ready to strap down the trailer, he noticed his wedding ring was missing. He knows he had the ring on and at the construction site because he had just picked the wedding ring up, at the jewelers, at noontime, as Tom was having 3 loose diamonds checked and fixed. Tom started searching for the missing wedding ring, at the construction site, in all the area’s he had been. He visually searched with a flashlight, after the sun went down. He looked through the stacked piles of wood and couldn’t find his wedding ring.
This morning, Tom was back at the site, searching once again. Still nothing. The driveway is just nothing but mud, with some areas, very deep. Tom told me he thinks the ring imay be under the mud. Could I help him out and give him a call back?
I immediately called Tom back, as I sat in the school line. I told Tom I would be there, as soon as I dropped my granddaughter off, went home and loaded my equipment up. Now I just need to tell my wife Cheryl, the honey do list will need to wait 😉

AS soon as I finished talking with Tom, I called Gary Hill, to see if he would like to help me out. I did not know what the construction site looked like or how big the areas to be searched were. I just knew that I didn’t want the septic system and leech bed coming to a screeching halt, because I couldn’t find the ring fast enough. Gary would be a big help on this and thankfully he was available and I would pick him up, on my way to the Town of Gorham construction site.
Once Gary and I arrived, Tom promptly met us and explained everything once again. He pointed out the areas he was working in and it was going to be a challenge to find his ring, with all the mud and lots of metal and piles of wood everywhere.
I had Gary start grid searching the grassy area, where there was a pile of lumber and the large trailer. Hopefully the ring wasn’t in the trailer because it would need to be offloaded and physically searched with our Twin Optical Scanners 👀🙄
I decided to grid search the mud, from the pile of lumber, in the driveway, towards the road. If the ring was in this area, I didn’t want the trucks, trailers and lifts running over the ring, driving it down deeper and out of the reach of our metal detectors. As I was gridding the mud, I was slipping and sliding and my boots got stuck a few times, in the mud. Same with Gary, when he came over to the area.

After approximately 35-40 minutes, I had completed about 25 feet of the driveway and no signals even close to a gold ring. Gary was back over on the grass area and was attempting to get closer to the stack of lumber and construction materials. The metal was everywhere, including the ground and it was not easy, searching there. All of a sudden, I hear Gary yell over to me, “I found it”. Wait, What? Gary then says it is “right here, come and get some photos”. When I arrived, Gary pointed out the wedding ring, blending in with the grass. Gary told me he was trying to get as close to the pile of construction debris and material, when he heard a slight low tone. When he looked down, there was the ring.

Tom had left for a few minutes and when he returned, we asked him to show us once again what he had been doing around the pile. Gary asked him, were you over here? When Tom got over to Gary, Gary pointed to the ring, in the grass but Tom still couldn’t see it. Gary really had to point it out, because the ring was blending in very well, with the grass. Once Tom saw the ring, in the grass, a big smile swept across his face. Tom was really surprised he hadn’t seen it last night or this morning. Unfortunately, once a ring is the grass, they can be very difficult to see.

A very sentimental wedding ring is now back on Tom’s finger, where it belongs. There is no better feeling for Gary and I, than to reunite a lost item, with the rightful owner. Another smile for my “Book of Smiles” makes for a great day.

So Tom is happy that he has his wedding ring back and it will no longer impede the progress of the septic system and leech bed. Gary and I are happy for putting another smile on a client’s face. Now I need to go start the honey do list and that should put a smile on my wife’s face.

Huntington Beach Lost Ring in Volleyball Court .. Found

** Steth lost his new gold wedding band on or near the volleyball court in Huntington City Beach. He was smart enough to take it off before playing volleyball. Steth tied the ring to a safety string and slipped it in the pocket of his swim suit. After playing for a couple hours. He checked the pocket and the string had become un-tied from the ring. The ring was not in the pocket either.

He knew the loss had to happen on the sand near the volleyball court because he had not left the area. Two hours later he returned with an inexpensive  metal detector. An hour into his search his friend recommended that he call the metal detector man.

  I met Steth shortly after the call because he was only a few miles away from where I live. Ten minutes into the search I had a successful recovery of his new wedding ring, he had only been married two weeks. He was certainly saved from having to explain this to his new wife.

Diamond Earring Lost, Recovered and Returned in Wayne, PA!!!

Chris found me in The Ring Finders directory and dropped me a text. Apparently his wife, Molly, lost a very sentimental earring following breakfast at a local restaurant in Wayne, PA. Prior to meeting them at the restaurant later that day, Chris conveyed to me the following details. Molly had been eating breakfast with some friends and while at the table she felt her earring fall off…she picked it up and thought she put it securely back in her ear…but when she got to her car a few minutes later it was not there. They spent several hours searching for it in the parking lot. On the phone I told them that if it fell off in the gravel parking lot it was just as likely they would find it with their eyes vs with a metal detector because it would be right on the surface. They still wanted me to come search. I met them at the restaurant and prior to getting my detector out of car we walked the parking lot as Molly described how she thought the loss occurred. I then went to get my machine out of the car so I could scan the one earing she still had and then begin the search. Well…while walking back to them after grabbing my detector I was hyper focused on scanning the ground…like most of us Ring Finders do…and sure as heck…there was her beautiful earring!!! No metal detector necessary!!! I walked up to Molly and asked her to stick her hand out…confused…she did so…and I dropped her lost earring in her hand. Her and her husband were so full of surprise and joy that the lost earring was back in their possession!!!

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Portland Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

I started receiving many notifications, from Facebook. Someone had posted in the Portland, Maine Facebook Page, about their husband losing his Wedding Ring, somewhere along The Eastern Promenade Trail System or at an Irving Gas Station, in South Portland Maine and I was being tagged, to help find it. I reached out to Lauren, the originator of the post, and told her if there was anything I could do to help, just contact me.

I then received the following message on Wednesday, 4/9/25, from Lauren,

“Hello! You come highly recommended! 🙂 I posted earlier about a lost wedding band in portland. Do you charge per hour for your services? Thank you!”

I replied
“Good Morning Lauren, I am so sorry about your husband’s wedding ring. So I do not charge anything at all for my time or my services. I do however require a Transportation Fee, to cover my Gas, Tolls, wear and tear, etc.. A few questions and observations first, if you don’t mind. 1) When was the ring lost and which location do you think it was lost at? 2) My metal detectors wouldn’t be of any help, at the Irving Station. Just to much metal and the area is paved. This would be a visual search only. Have you and or your husband performed a visual search at the Irving and on the trail? 3) The City of Portland, Maine has a strict “No Metal Detecting” policy, on the Eastern Prom, Portland, Maine, Deering Oaks and other areas, across the city. If I do search, I would need to receive permission, from the Portland Maine Police Department, before any search could take place. 4) If you do decide to hire me to search, I will not be available to search today, Saturday or Sunday, due to previous commitments. Please let me know your thoughts, Dennis”

Lauren replied
“Thank you for the information! The ring was lost on Friday night 4/4 so its been a while. I think it was most likely lost along either the soft trail or paved trail along eastern promenade – we walked both but more so on the soft gravel area. We did do a visual search at both Irving and the trail. If you get permission from the police department, would you be able to do a search either Thursday or Friday of this week? I think if you can get permission through the portland PD to do a search of that trail, i think we would definitely like to have you try.🙂”

I immediately contacted Portland Police Department and I was given permission to search, with my metal detector, but I could not dig any of the grounds. That wouldn’t be a problem, since the ring would still be above ground. I then contacted Lauren and told her I would search first thing in the morning (Thursday) and I would bring my friend, Gary Hill to help me. It was such a large area to search, over a mile long and both sides of the trail would need to be searched. It’s an extremely large area, for one person.
I also told Lauren my concerns about the ring being lost, in a public space, for 6 days, by the time I searched. Depending on where the ring was lost, there was a good chance that someone has already found it. The trail was asphalt and some areas are hard packed gravel. The ring would be easily seen, if it landed on the actual trail. Our only hope was that the ring was hidden in the grass, along the trail, near the picnic tables or in the grass, near the swings.
Gary and I arrived at The Eastern Promenade Trails, near the East End Beach and immediately started searching around the picnic tables, overlooking the water. After 15 minutes, no ring was found. We then started searching along the actual trail. Gary would search the right side of the trail and I would search the left side of the asphalt paved trail. The grass area, along the asphalt was not very large and the grass was extremely short and matted down. If the ring landed on this area of the grass, there was a good chance someone may have seen it already. Only about a mile to go, before we reach the parking lot, where Lauren and her husband had parked. As we searched, we also always perform a visual search, just in case it was on the trail and no one had seen it yet.
As Gary and I searched, the trail switched from asphalt to hard packed gravel and then back to asphalt . As we were approaching the parking area, we were not hopeful the ring would be found. We we running out of real estate, to search. The trail near the parking lot was closed, due to construction and the trail temporarily runs along a railroad track. There is no grass at all in this section, just asphalt and railroad tracks. The ring would have been found already, if lost in this area. Not looking good at all, as we entered the parking lot. There were two separate areas of grass to search, in the parking lot. The first section of grass has two swings on it and you can sit on the swings and enjoy the views of Portland Harbor and Bug Light Lighthouse, in the distance. I saw Gary had already started grid searching the area, horizontally, to the water. I decided to grid search the area, vertically to the water. After 4-5 minutes of searching and directly behind the first swing, I heard a slight low tone, in my head phones. As I looked down and slightly in front of me, I saw a gold ring. WOW, I couldn’t believe it. I yelled over to Gary and informed him of the good news. I had found Lauren’s husband’s wedding ring. Gary came over and we discussed how lucky Lauren and her husband were, to have lost the ring, in an area that isn’t as heavily trafficked and one of the only areas, where the grass was tall enough, to semi hide the ring.
I then took some photos and a video and sent the video, to Lauren. Her response was

“Omg!!!!! I cant believe it!!! Thank you so much!! I’ll call you in just a minute! Im
Going to step outside from work 🙂”

Lauren called me a few minutes later, as we were walking back down the trail, to our vehicle. She was so very happy and in disbelief. After 6 days , she knew it was a long shot to be found and was just so grateful, we went out and searched for her. Lauren then told me that her husband is out of town on business and they live in New Hampshire. We agreed to meet on Monday, in 4 days, when she would be in South Portland, for a business meeting. Approximately an hour later, Lauren sent me the following text

“I can’t stop smiling today! I shared the great news with all my coworkers and they were so happy to hear such a great ending to this story too 🙂”

Gary and I couldn’t stop smiling either. We love helping people like Lauren and her husband. The is no better feeling, than to be able to return something so sentimental and see their smiles and happiness.

On Monday April 14th, I had an 8:30am Dr’s appointment, for my 3 month Knee Replacement Surgery. Lauren would be in town at approximately 11:30am and I would return the wedding ring, at that time. My appointment went extremely well and my wife, Cheryl, and I decided to walk from The Eastern Promenade and around Baxter Boulevard. This would be a good test on my knees and we would also use this walk as a way to wisely use the time and really test my knees, with a 6 mile walk. The walk was completed in approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes and it was almost time to meet Lauren. Lauren arrived and was just beaming, from ear to ear. She immediately thanked me and she was still in disbelief, that the ring was found. Now Lauren’s husband, Daniel, is out of town, on business and still does not know that his Wedding Ring has been found. Lauren is going to surprise Daniel, on Friday, when he returns home. Unfortunately I won’t be there to see his face but if it is anything like Lauren’s face, when I handed her the ring, it will be incredible. Congratulations to the still newlyweds ❤️🙏

Cellphone Lost in the Sand Found using Find My Phone App and Metal Detector

** Alex and his family are vacationing at Newport Beach, CA. They come every year from Washington state to enjoy our weather and the sandy beaches. This time the sandy beach was not friendly to Alex. His young daughter had his IPhone and it got lost in the sand the first afternoon of their vacation.

    When Alex called me it was 8:30 pm. He told me the find my phone app was showing that the phone was still charged and he had the pinned location marked. I told him I could do a night search to eliminate the areas that the beach cleaning machines would be working in the early AM morning hours.

   After 3 hours that night the cellphone was no where near the latitude / longitude co ordinates that Alex gave me.

    The next morning I returned to search outside the area search last night. After one more hour the cellphone showed up under my metal detector coil. It was more than 60 ft. away from the co ordinates given by the find my phone app. We think the phone was too deep to give an accurate pin mark.?

  There’s a lot to learn about using the co ordinates to find a phone. I stayed positive about finding the phone because he could see battery power was still at a 60% and had only lost 5% in the last 5 hours. More experience was gained and best of all Alex was happy to have his phone back.. It is important to anyone reading this to remember to have all your phones backed up..

Cellphones are important to most of us. I have experience finding these but we need to get to the general location ASAP .. If lost in a public location.  Contact me for information about our chances of finding your lost phone..

Lost ring in Kirksville Mo…. Found with a metal detector

A very nice young man named Kyle called me about trying to recover his 14K wedding band.

He was walking a friend’s dog on a leash in a park when the dog bolted for some reason twisting his fingers and his ring flew off.

He borrowed a metal detector but being unfamiliar with it couldn’t find the ring. This was his father’s ring so he really wanted to find it.

We were there a little over two hours, gridding different sections where the ring was lost when I found it. He was very happy to have it back.

Lost Engagement Ring in Solano County…Found!

The thing that I enjoy most about doing this work are the stories, and this was a really good one!

Mary and Frank are an elderly couple living in Solano County!  Mary had first contacted me to discuss a very important engagement ring, a yellow gold solitaire ring given to her 23 years earlier.  She had been doing a bit of gardening in the backyard when she thought to herself that it was probably a bad idea to have her wedding and engagement ring on while performing this work.  Like so many others have done, she removed the rings and put them into a pant pocket and went about her work. Later, when she tried to retrieve her rings only the wedding band was found.  She admitted to being so disappointed that she had used a bit of profanity and had been loosing sleep over the entire ordeal.

Mary had been previously married and enjoyed scuba diving. Her outings found her in contact with Frank, a boat Captain.  Frank is a Veteran Naval Aviation Navigator serving 3 tours in Vietnam and a sailing enthusiast who at the time co-owned a 40′ Valiant sailing vessel used to travel as far North as the San Juan Islands and South to Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.  The group enjoyed many trips together and a 30 year friendship. 23 years ago things had changed in their lives and Frank proposed to Mary and they have been married ever since.  To Mary, the ring represented 53 combined years of friendship and love.  I had to find this ring!

Mary led me to a beautifully manicured backyard and told me the story of how and when the ring was lost.  We decided to start with three target areas which included a small lawn area that was searched with no luck.  The second area didn’t reveal much either.  In our third target area between two small shrubs, a 12/13 on the Equinox 800…we made the recovery!!!

As I held up the ring, Mary was overcome with emotion and gave me a long and strong embrace, her nightmare was over. We took some pictures to commemorate the occasion and spent the next 20 minutes talking about travel, life, and family…the important things.  When we went into the couples beautiful home to give Frank the good news he too was excited, gave me a good handshake and made a really funny joke about kissing me!  Thank you kindly for your service to our country Frank!

To Mary and Frank I wish you all the health and happiness in the world.  Your story made me extremely happy and was an inspiration.

Pendant lost at La Jolla Shores found

Adam was playing ball at La Jolla Shores beach when he discovered that his necklace had broken and a treasured pendant was missing. He and his friends searched for it without success. A referral got him to TheRingFinders.com website and my contact info. When I received the call, I was out detecting with a buddy. We were about done anyway, so, we jumped into his car and headed to his house so I could jump into my truck and head out to the beach. When I got there I lucked into a parking spot and contacted Adam. Once on the site, I got the story and found the search area was relatively small. Less than 5 minutes later without a signal so far, I got a steady tone on my Equinox 900 and judging by it and the number readout that this was the probable target. Pin pointer poked into the sand located the object and sure enough, a beautiful pendant came to light. A happy Adam can now relax and enjoy the rest of the day and evening. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.
