This ring find began the day after Christmas 2024 when Randall who was on vacation from Los Osos, California and staying at the Marriott Beach Club, for the holidays, saw me metal detecting in the waters of Na’ia Lagoon and said he had just lost his ring while snorkeling in deeper waters of the lagoon.  Another tourist tried looking but the area was fairly silty with low visibility.  Winter season surf really silts up Na’ia Lagoon so I told him when the visibility returned I would put my scuba gear on and hunt for his ring.  He showed me a rather well marked by buoys area and I logged that in my notes for later reference.  I had brought my scuba gear to the lagoon several times but it was always low visibility until Saturday 29 March 2025.  I went into the water in scuba gear and laid my bright orange rope on the bottom in the sand & coral as my grid line.  Thankfully only a few minor targets in this area.  I had to go out over the coral rubble areas as that was also part of the search area.  After about 10 minutes of hunting I got a loud unusual tone over the coral rubble.  I waved my hand abruptly over the coral to blast away the sand and Randall’s beautiful ring and a Lincoln cent came into view.  No wonder the tone was so weird.  I grabbed them both and secured them away.  I finished the dive looking elsewhere in the lagoon and found one more rather corroded junk ring.  I texted a picture to Randall in California to confirm.  The ring was opened up this morning and Randall sent me a Shaka!  Aloha to Randall!  Sorry it took three months but you have to be safe on scuba!

This ring find began on Monday when I got a text from Angelica who lives in Kalihi on Oahu, her text said, “hi! i lost this ring in the area circled in red of Pounder’s Beach in La’ie last Saturday night, March 29.  would you be able to find it?”  I called Angelica to get some details and she had been kneeling in shallow water along the shoreline when her ring came off and disappeared in the waves.  I checked the surf and tide report and decided Thursday afternoon would be ideal.  The next day she texted, i’ve had a change of mind–i’m just gonna let my ring stay lost there haha.  I didn’t know what to think but decided since I had never detected that beach I would give it a shot on my own.  I went Thursday after work.  Driving up the East coast of Oahu is always breath taking with the steep Koolau Mountains on one side and the ocean on the other.  After arriving I hiked down the beach to the far end where Angelica lost her ring and had circled in red in her picture.  It was a little rough from the North swell wrap but doable.  Thankfully not too much trash on this desolate beach so targets were minimal.  After about 30 minutes and nearing the end of where I was going to search, I got a nice tone on the Manticore.  It was near some lava rocks so I wasn’t expecting much.  On the third scoop, low and behold there was Angelica’s pretty Hawaiian Ring in the scoop.  Thank you , Jesus!  I went back to my car and sent Angelica a pic asking, “Look like this?”  yes! you went to find it?  I called her and let her know the good news and since she is busy with college stuff, we agreed she would swing by my home on Sunday for the return.  Her priorities are perfect, “School first”.   Aloha to Angelica!

This ring find began a few days ago when I was contacted by Jennifer who lives on Oahu.  While enjoying the waters of Aulani Kohola Lagoon with her daughter while standing in waist deep water her daughter’s Yellow Gold Hawaiian Style Ring fell off into the water and disappeared.  They tried searching for the ring but it was useless as the water was losing it’s visibility.  I left for Ko Olina after work and Jennifer sent me some excellent pics of the area for conducting my search.  After 45 minutes and expanding the grid in every direction I told Jennifer it wasn’t in the box and she and I assumed a snorkeler probably spotted it.  She let the beach team know in case someone turned it in.  That brings me to this morning’s low tide and I was hunting Kohola Lagoon.  Out in neck deep water I got a screaming target on the Manticore and in one scoop there was Jennifer’s amazing Hawaiian Gold Ring.  It was quite far off the location I hunted so I rushed back to my car to confirm the ring as I had an exact picture.  Sure enough it was. Blessed again!  As you can see Jennifer was very excited to get the ring back and she met me at Aulani for the return.  Hugs of joy!  Aloha to Jennifer!
