Lost silver bracelet in sand, Sanford, Fl….Found with metal detector!

Dev was enjoying a relaxing morning playing volleyball with his family and friends and when the time came to pack it up and head home he noticed that his large silver bracelet was not on his wrist. This bracelet was a special gift from his friends as a present for his birthday a couple of years ago. And he wears it all the time and could not believe that somehow it had come off. He and his family searched diligently through the sand hoping to find it and after a while they realized it had just disappeared. But Dev refused to give up and finally looked on line and entered “Bracelet Finder using a Metal Detector” and up came theringfinders.com. A quick search in the “Directory” showed I was located right here in Sanford, Fl. and he gave me a call.

I was just sitting down to lunch with my family so I assured Dev I could come out after we finished eating and if his lost silver bracelet was there in the sand I could find it for him and not to worry. Two hours later I met Dev and he showed me the sand volleyball court where they had spent the morning playing. He explained that they had switched sides after each game so the odds were even that it could be on either half. It took me about 10 minutes to cover the whole court and then I began searching around the outside along the out-of-bounds line. I found a few pieces of foil here and there and then the first strong promising signal turned out to be an old matchbox car and then not five feet away another strong signal. Slowly I brushed the sand away hoping to reveal what sounded like a large silver item and sure enough…there was Dev’s lost silver bracelet! Dev was so glad to have his special gift back in his possession. (The clasp had worked its way open and it was obvious what had caused it to fall off and into the sand!).

Long lost ring, Secrete Lake Park, Casselberry, Fl….Found 19 years later!

Here is a text I received from Gissele on February 21st at 9:55pm.

“Hi Mike, I found your info on theringfinders.com. This is a complete long shot but I lost my promise ring at Secrete Lake Park in Casselberry. Back then there was a little Karate studio in the back of the park. I left my son while he was practicing and took my young daughter to go to the playground. We were crossing through the field/baseball field when my ring slipped off my finger and I can only describe it as being swallowed up by the grass. It is not expensive and has a small diamond mounted on it. I mean I lost this years ago….like in 2002! I just recently moved away, to El Paso, Texas, but have always wondered about my ring. I even tried using a metal detector and was not able to find anything. Thank you for your help. Gissele”

I answered her email right away and agreed whole heartedly that it would be a long shot but not totally impossible. I asked allot of questions like, What was the ring made of? Was it a small, medium or thick band? Were there any markings on the inside?, etc. I then sent Gissele an aerial screen shot of the baseball field and asked her to put a line where she walked and an X over the area where she lost her ring. She assured me that her ring was made of 14k gold and was a thin band. The fact that it was a smaller ring gave me hope that it was very likely still there, in the ground, waiting to be found.

You see most people who metal detect parks and school yards rarely dig those low numbers. Many times the smaller rings will sound and read the same as a pull tab or even lower, like that of a small piece of aluminum which we call “can slaw”. (Can slaw are the small pieces of aluminum that get spread all over as a result of a lawn mower hitting a can and shredding it into small pieces).

Armed with that encouraging information I headed to the park and set out my corner flags and began my tight grid search. For 3 hours I dug everything that sounded close to what a small gold ring would sound like. Rain drove me to take shelter for 20 minutes and then I continued my search. It was getting on to sunset and I was thinking of calling it a night when all of a sudden the complex turned on all the lights and it was like daylight again. With renewed energy I decided to give it another hour and moved my flags closer towards 3rd base and the short stop area. I was using my Garrett ATMax metal detector in the ZERO MODE and had blocked out all signals from 65 and up and had set my IRON DISCRIMINATION to ignore anything below 25. My final signal registered 47 on my display and showed the target to be four inches deep. I thought, Wow, that sounds really good and I carefully dug a neat plug. It was a wet muddy clump of dirt and I used my pin pointer to narrow down the targets hiding place. As the ring revealed itself I was in a great position, on my knees, to thank God for helping me to uncover Gissele’s precious lost promise ring!! The thrill, the joy and relief of being able to have actually found her ring was something that I will never forget!

I sent Gissele a quick text and explained that I had gotten out to do a search and had found a few things. Then I waited a few minutes and then sent her two photos!! Oh, and did I mention that Gissele now lives in El Paso, Texas and lost her ring 19 years ago?!!!

Lost ring in the grass, Davenport, Fl….Found and Returned to Owner!

Brian had decided to take his dog out for a short walk behind his house and as he walked around the small lake he noticed how loose his ring was on his finger. He and his fiancee had bought promise rings for each other and they each wore their ring faithfully for two years. Brian had recently bought her an engagement ring therefore she no longer wore her promise ring and Brian sort of took up the habit of wearing her ring on his index finger on his left hand and just a few days earlier he jammed his finger so the ring was getting to tight and uncomfortable. So he tried wearing it on his ring finger and it sort of fit but was just a little loose. Add a little loose fit and some cool weather and Brian was setting himself up for his ring to fall off and that is exactly what happened. Somehow while Brian was playing with his dog he swung his arm to the side and he actually felt his fiancees promise ring go flying. Even though it was daylight Brian had no idea where the ring went and he searched for quite a while before finally giving up. The worse part was that he felt really bad about loosing his fiancees promise ring and he wanted to get it back ASAP because of the huge sentimental value it held.

His next thoughts were along the line of using a metal detector so he decided to try a search for “Metal Detector Rental” on his phone and up came theringfinders.com and one of my stories. Brian gave me a call and then sent me his address and a few hours later I was grid searching the exact area where he lost his ring. This area is a new construction area and the ground was signal free…with not a grunt or beep to be heard anywhere. Iron sounds as a grunt and non-ferros signals give a beep on my Garrett ATMax metal detector. As I was finishing up the 20 foot square area I got a great signal, crisp and clean, and there hiding in the grass was Brian’s promise ring! The relief was obvious on Brian’s face as he scooped up the ring and put it back on his finger! I thanked God for allowing me to find Brian’s special ring and for the privilege of being a member of theringfinders.com!

Lost wedding ring in the grass, Windermere, Florida….Found and Returned to owner!

Andrew was playing ball with his son out on one of the grassy areas in his neighborhood when all of a sudden he felt his wedding ring go flying off of his finger. He immediately stopped and began to search the grass, thinking “How hard can it be to find a white gold ring laying on the grass?”. Soon he had a bunch of kids and a few adults involved in the search and it seemed like his ring just plain disappeared. And much to Andrew’s dismay it soon got dark and they had to give up the search.

That evening Andrew and his wife went on line to look for help and came across theringfinders.com and that gave them some hope! Just knowing that there are actually people “out there” that help people find their lost rings and valuables was a huge encouragement—so Andrew gave me a call.

We arranged to meet early the next morning and as we walked to the grassy area where Andrew lost his ring he explained how he was spinning the ball with two hands and that motion was what caused his ring to go flying. As they showed me where the loss occurred I put out four flags and began to carefully grid search the area with my ATMax metal detector. Knowing that his ring was a medium white gold band I was concentrating on anything showing numbers from large foil in the 30s to the 50s! Numerous targets were scattered here and there, most of them too deep to to be Andrew’s lost wedding ring. A recent ring loss will be a surface target that will sound crisp and clean and register shallow on the depth reading. Thankfully only 8 minutes later, our prayers were answered as the perfect signal sounded off in my headphones and there, barely visible in the grass, was Andrew’s lost wedding ring! I motioned for Andrew and his wife to come over and see what I had found! Lots of smiles and thank you’s were exchanged and a huge relief was obviously taken off of Andrew’s heart and mind.

Lost wedding ring in bushes, St. Augustine, Fl….Found with a metal detector!

Chris was just getting started on a relaxing hike in the Moses Creek Conservation Area and with all the warm weather and rain the mosquitos have been out in record number this year. As he was walking along he felt something biting him on the back of his left calf and he instinctively swatted at it and as his hand glanced off of his leg he felt and saw his wedding ring go sailing into the thick grass and bushes. He instantly dropped his backpack and began looking through the brush hoping desperately to find his ring. An hour passed and then two and still Chris could not locate his lost wedding ring. He decided to go home for a break and eat some lunch and then he returned to the very spot and continued searching the thick tangle of palmettos and brush. Another two hours passed and no ring! Dejected and discouraged Chris went home and began searching for the nearest place to purchase a metal detector. He decided to order one on line but it would take 5 to 7 days to arrive in the mail and he was anxious about not having his ring and wanted to do something more about finding it sooner. Another search led him to theringfinders.com and after reading some of the success stories he opted to give me a call. Chris explained what happened and the next day I met him at the trail head and armed with my trusty Garrett ATMax metal detector we set off down the path to the exact spot where he last saw his ring. It was quite obvious where he lost it because of all the trampled down brush and bushes. I set up my metal detector in Zero Mode, then ground balanced the machine and started searching along the edge of the trail working my way into the thicker brush. It became obvious that swinging a metal detector would not work effectively so we decided to step on the bushes and by bending them over it would allow me to swing my coil over each area. It took 15 minutes until I got a repeatable signal that had promise. Peering into the thick tangle I had to use my Garrett “carrot” pin pointer to actually locate Chris’s lost ring. Chris was elated and overjoyed to have his wedding ring back on his finger and as we walked back to our vehicles we talked of metal detecting and the joys and thrills of finding lost treasure!

Unique wedding ring lost in yard, Ocala, Florida…Found with a metal detector!

Friday morning Dion went to the front door to let his dog outside and in the dogs excited state there was some confusion about not exiting the house fast enough. Dion was wanting his dog to hurry along and he swung his left hand underhanded like…sort of in a bowling style motion and he felt his unique, custom made wedding ring come off of his finger. He heard a ping sound, as if his ring had struck something metal and it just plain disappeared. He was sure it landed close by and proceeded to search all through the low bushes along the side walk. He even went as far as removing all the bushes…he told me later that they didn’t like those bushes anyway…so all that was left was the pine bark mulch and dirt! Dion was bound and determined to find his two piece, interlocking, platinum and yellow gold wedding ring which he has worn for the past 11 years.

Friday night was a very difficult night for Dion as he struggled with the thought of never seeing his lost wedding ring again. In desperation he went online and looked up “How to find a lost ring” and up came theringfinders.com and as he read what we are all about he started to find some hope. He sent out a request to one of our members and they were able to do a short search but they were unable to locate Dion’s lost wedding ring. Dion knew his lost ring had to be there in his front yard somewhere so he gave me a call and explained what happened. It was a two hour drive that took me up into the beautiful Ocala National Forest area and I was anxious to see what the front of his house looked like and where his ring was hiding. After meeting Dion and hearing his story there was one key fact that stuck out to me. He said that when he waved his hand at the dog the sound of his ring hitting something was not immediate but delayed. That information told me his ring struck the sidewalk or driveway out a good ways from the front door. Both sides of the sidewalk had been thoroughly searched so I determined it must have landed out in the grass some 30 to 40 feet from where Dion had been standing. It took only a minute or two to set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and within minutes I got my first promising signal—Platinum! And a couple of swings later—Yellow Gold!

Dion was overjoyed and rushed inside to tell his wife and as I walked along I silently thanked God for allowing me to be a blessing to this young couple and their 8 kids!

Lost wedding ring on soccer field, Maitland, Fl….Found!

Gabby called me yesterday and asked for help finding her husbands lost wedding ring on a full size soccer field. I told her I was up for the challenge and little did I know how tough it would actually be. Her husband, Christian, was not able to join us but he had explained what position he plays and where he spent most of the time during his practice. The first day I set up flags and cones and covered over half of the field carefully grid searching each area. Five and a half hours worth and the temperatures were in the mid 90’s and although I was taking care to stay hydrated the humidity did wear me down.

The next day I returned to finish covering the rest of the field and I was beginning to wonder if maybe someone had picked it up already. Again it was hot, humid and muggy but I was determined to finish what I had started. And part of what drove me to find this lost wedding ring was the fact that Christian and Gabby have only been married for a little over one month! (The first day while I was searching the field, Gabby’s mother, sister and cousin came out to walk the field, hoping to eyeball the ring and we talked briefly and they too expressed their appreciation for my time and effort.). Two and a half hours into my 2nd day of searching I got a banging signal showing the target to be quite shallow. At first I could not see anything but there, well hidden under some dead grass, was Christian’s lost wedding ring! I immediately bowed my head and thanked my heavenly Father for showing me where this little beauty was hiding. I then took a few photos and sent Gabby a text with the great news. Thirty minutes later Christian showed up for soccer practice and was very, very thankful to get his precious ring back!

Heat, humidity, rain or shine, in the water, grass or sand….I am willing to look for your lost item!

Lost diamond earring, Winter Park, Fl….Found!

Sunday afternoon David gave me a call and asked if I could possibly help him find a very special lost diamond stud earring! Two days earlier, David’s mother in law, Mrs Susan, was getting out of her car and a small low hanging tree branch got tangled in her hair and she felt a slight tug at her ear and in the next moment her earring was gone! They immediately searched the thick low ivy bushes, along the concrete and even in the car thinking maybe it could have fallen in there as well. After an hour of frantic searching they could not find the lost diamond stud earring and decided to try again later.

As David thought about how to find the earring he went online and looked up where he could rent a metal detector and that search led him to “theringfinders.com” and one of my recent search and recovery stories.

I met David at his mother in laws home and he promptly showed me the area where Mrs Susan lost her precious earring. The ivy ground cover was super thick and as I turned on my Garrett ATMax metal detector and tried to ground balance the machine I had a very difficult time finding an area free of metal. I then tested the matching stud earring and it gave a very weak signal because it contained such a small amount of white gold. Unfortunately the rebar in the concrete and other underground interference would not allow me to use my metal detector so I opted to go with my Garrett Pro Pointer AT. As I started working my way along the edge of the thick ivy ground cover, David squatted down just in front and to the side of me and began searching with his eyes and he said, “There it is!!” And sure enough, there was Mrs Susan’s lost diamond stud earring. We could hardly believe it…as David, his wife and Mrs Susan had searched the area a couple of times and had all but given up hope!

It was an honor to have a small part in helping find this beautiful earring and I hope and pray it remains in your family for many years to come!

Lost wedding ring in the surf, Daytona Beach, Florida….Found and Returned!

Nathan emailed me late Friday night and asked if there was any chance I could help him look for his lost tungsten wedding ring at the beach. He explained that they had spent part of the afternoon on the sand and in the water and only realized his ring was missing later while eating dinner. Nathan was not real used to wearing his wedding ring because he and his lovely wife had just gotten married four days earlier and they were on their honeymoon the day he lost his ring. Bummer, hey?! And to make matters worse they were going to be returning home to Missouri in just two days. I assured Nathan that his lost wedding ring was not going to be washed away and if he could remember exactly where they entered the water and about how far out they went…then there was a very good chance of finding his lost ring.
The next morning I met Nathan on the beach and he explained how they had stayed in the sun light because they were a bit chilled and the setting sun was shinning between two very large buildings that were quite close together…so that was a huge help in putting me in the best location. Before getting started I told Nathan that I would probably be digging various targets along the way and if I were to find his ring he would be the first to know. So I started out my grid search just to the north of the 60 feet wide target area and I proceeded to dig various coins and junk items. I was going from the wet sand out to almost chest deep and on my 6th pass I got a solid, sharp signal on my TDI Beach Hunter that turned out to be Nathan’s lost ring! The relief on Nathans face was obvious and the smile said it all! I really thank God for helping me find Nathan’s lost wedding ring and I wonder who else out there may need my help as well?! Lost ring in East Crooked Lake, Eustis, Florida….Found and Returned!

Erick had just bought his daughter a new fishing pole and they were on the end of his parents dock trying it out for the very first time when disaster struck! Erick said that after putting a nice juicy worm on the hook, he went to wash the goo from his hands and as he shook the excess water off, his heavy gold wedding ring went “plunk” right into the dark lake water! Erick was stunned as he watched it hit the water and disappear out of sight. Right away he tried to figure out how he could retrieve his ring so he checked the depth of the water and determined it to be around 11 feet deep. Too deep for him to jump in and attempt any sort of search himself. And the more he thought about his situation he felt there just had to be some way or someone who could help him retrieve his lost ring. So he went online and soon came across theringfinders.com and one of my successful recovery stories.

After speaking with Erick and hearing what all happened I assured him that his ring was not going anywhere and the soonest I could conduct a search would be in three days. Erick told me he had actually calculated that his ring fell off the dock exactly 32 inches from the end of the dock, which he had marked with a magic marker. With that information I put together a pole that was to be driven into the bottom of the lake and anchored with a 2X4 to the dock. This time I brought my scuba gear and was prepared to do a proper dive. Only the bottom of the lake was covered with SAV…submerged aquatic vegetation…which would not permit me to swing a metal detector. So I used my water proof Scuba Tector/X Pointer Pro that is rated to 200 feet! As I slowly descended to the bottom I was able to use the pole as a guide and it wasn’t long until the end of my hand held pointer clicked on something metal and there in the thick mud and silt in a tangle of grass was Erick’s lost ring! And as I slowly surfaced holding the ring on my finger and sticking it up so that was the first thing Erick would see…I will never forget the stunned look on Erick’s face. I am so thankful to God for allowing me to be able to help Erick be reunited with his lost wedding ring! Erick and his wife celebrate 15 years of marriage and are still committed to each other and going strong!
