Lost ring remains lost in Clay Township, Michigan

I was called by Kelli C. Friday asking me to find her ring that was lost last spring while doing some yard work. I told her we (Me, Dave B and my brother Doug) would be out Saturday morning to search for her ring. She had mentioned that her yard was 3 acres and her house was over 100 years old and that anything we found besides the ring we could keep.

We arrived at the house at 10:30 and met Jim C., Kelli’s husband, Jim explained that Kelli was up north buying chickens at a poultry festival. Kelli, now known as the chicken lady, raises chickens for pets and eggs with a few ducks added in. We began detecting the yard which Kelli marked for us where she thought the ring might be. The grounds were peppered with aluminum nuggets, like they were melted into balls and other junk metal pieces. We searched for about an hour and a half before Kelli got home then we introduced ourselves while she unloaded the 3 new chickens she bought. I had the privilege of holding 2 of them and taking them to the pen. They were like petting an angora kitten, very soft and silky and loved to be held. (see picture). We searched for another couple of hours, for as old as the house was there was very little coins found and nothing old. We turned everything over to Kelli. My brother Doug did find a pair of sterling silver ice tongs that Kelli lost 4 years ago and that was the find of the day and made Kelli very happy. Meeting Jim and Kelli was a real privilege, they are a great couple. Maybe we will come out for another search but the 2 1/2 hour trip makes it hard to arrange.  I will put this on my list of “needs to be found at another time”.

Ring Found Camp Pendleton Delmar Beach

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Friday  October 10, 2014

Sean called me early this morning telling me that he found my name in The RingFinders directory.  He had lost his white gold wedding band in the sand the night before. He had been working out with a squad of Marines  doing  some type of crawling exercise in the sand. Sean told me that he knew exactly when the ring slipped off his finger, but even that he knew the location it couldn’t be found. He said  about 40 guys searched the sand for about 15 minutes with no success .  I met Sean at 10 am and he walked me to the location  where it was lost.  Sean had placed a traffic cone in the general location and had ask the beach cleaning crew not to rake the area with the tractor rake.  ( last week I missed an easy search because the rake beat me to the location ). This  looked like an simple search, but I went south instead of north. After about 45 minutes I thought I’d cross grid and also check a little area north of the cone.  Ten or fifteen feet in the new direction my search coil was over the ring. After digging the ring in my sand scoop I called Sean over and we both were elated. Sean and myself were beginning to give up hope. I wasn’t ready to quit, but I was thinking of what words to say if I didn’t find it. After finding the ring Sean told me that he had just recently got married and he had not told his wife about the loss. At least he did save her a night of worrying about the loss.  I’m sure if Sean did not mark the spot and ask the beach crew to avoid raking that area we may have never found his ring..  I love  being able to help people, look at that smile.

Wedding Ring lost for 6 months

  • from Wellington (New Zealand)

About six months ago Kimberly and her husband had a bit of an argument and he threw his wedding ring across the street and into a thick hedge of trees on the front boundary.  They made up the next day and searched for the ring but were unable to find it.  It was soon forgotten until now as they were about to shift to Auckland.

imageWhen I arrived Kimberly showed me the area where the ring had gone into the trees.  My first thought was that it may have got hung up in the tree branches but I thought I should try the grass berm in front of the trees first.

I was bracing myself for a long and difficult search but after about 5 minutes I got a good signal.  I found the ring about 1cm down.

It was such a thrill to reunite it with Kimberly.

Lost Earring Found in Upper Hutt

  • from Wellington (New Zealand)

Alex contacted me to see if I could find an earring that his wife, Judy, had lost in a paddock while working with a ewe that was lambing.  Unfortunately I was out of the country for the week but asked them to wait for my return and I would do my best to help them.

When I got home I spoke to Judy and she told me that she had since lost another earring in similar circumstances but in another paddock.  However the first one was of sentimental value and therefore the top priority.

When I arrived at the property Judy was able to show me the matching earring so I could get an idea of what sort of signal to expect.

First Earring found

The earring was tiny and gave almost no response unless the coil was right on top of it, but at least they had an area marked out with sticks, about 3 metres square, where they thought it should be.

I went over the area as carefully as possible but got nothing.  I extended about 3metres to one side but still got nothing so went 3 metres to the other side of the original square.

A short time later I got a good signal and went down on my knees with the pinpointer.  It was going nuts but the earring was almost invisible .  It had landed head down and the pin was sticking straight up.

One down, one to go.  They took me to the next area and within about 2 minutes I got a signal and found the other earring.  It was almost as difficult as the first one to see as it was also head down

I was very relieved to be able to find both earrings as something that small is always going to be difficult.  Alex and Judy were so pleased.

Gold Class Ring reunited with owner the day before 10 year reunion

Back in June I recovered this  beautiful Gold and Diamond Class Ring on the edge of a Soccer Field ,  I made some calls about the name inscribed on it. Its a crazy small world sometimes, I used FB and come to find out the young man this belongs to not only still lives in this town but we actually know the same people. I spoke with Derrick the owner of the ring and arranged a meeting. He was more than happy to see this ring again for the first time in Ten years and we had a great conversation covering MDing and discovered how many more people that we both know. NOW sports fans here’s the rest of the story….Derrick’s 10 year class reunion is tomorrow! That will make you ponder the depths of the universe.

Lost ring at Camp Pendleton Del Mar Beach Found!

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Megan saw my ad on Craig’s list and contacted me with the sad story of losing her ring the day before at a small beach on Camp Pendleton. She had removed the ring to keep it from getting scratched in the sand. Yup, it ended up in the sand anyway! It was about a 45-60 minute drive each way to the location so I got on my way as soon as I could.

When I arrived, I called Megan and met with her at the little cove next to her rented bungalow.  She showed me where she had been sitting down by the waters’ edge. I turned on my detector and in maybe 10 seconds, it get a good “Gold” signal. Sure enough, it was the ring! I wish all recoveries could be that quick and easy. Megan was quite relieved and overcome with emotion as she hadn’t slept the night before worrying about the ring. I received cheers from the other people on the beach and a big hug from Megan. I guess I should have waited for her to recover  a bit more before taking the photo of her holding it! Believe me, she was one of the happiest people I’ve had the pleasure of helping. Thank you for the reward.

Found Lost Engagement Ring in Horse Pasture

  • from Fresno (California, United States)
Contact:

Received a call from a desperate young lady named Stephanie who lost her three day old engagement ring while pitching hay to her horses.  After driving out to Atwater and down a miles long gravel road, we met with the young lady.  She did not know where she had lost her ring on the ranch yard.  She thought she lost it in or near the horse pasture while pitching hay to her horses in the evening and had actually spent several hours crawling on her hands and knees in the soggy manure and tossed hay on the ground left by the horses near the feeding trough.

I had brought my cousin along to see how to do ring recovery.   Stephanie, my cousin, and I began searching near the haystack where she had been grabbing the hay with her pitchfork.  My cousin helped with the digging.  Many signals were sounding off, but mostly bits of iron baling wire, broken horseshoes and other strange bits of farm debris.  Stephanie kept hoping each signal would be her ring.  We  entered the horse pasture and began a gridded search.  Again many junk signals.  Soft wet manure is not fun.  It does not smell good either.

My cousin took a break from digging the signals under the straw that covered the ground to cool off.  I got a signal from my White’s MXT Detector that sounded good, loud, and  the scale readout said Ring.  I asked Stephanie to brush away the hay straw and there shining brightly in the sun was her now found ring.

She snatched up her ring and the next thing I knew,Found Ring IMG_20131214_104041_030 my cousin and I were both hugged repeatedly by one very happy young lady.

Moral to the story:  Wear gloves or put your ring in a safe place while pitching hay…

2nd Ring Recovered in a week, lost for 5 years in Omaha, NE

  • from Omaha (Nebraska, United States)

This is also a co-worker of mine that I have been bugging for nearly a year to do a search for his lost ring that he had mentioned.   He wasn’t sure where he lost it but assumed it was during a game of catch with his son in the yard nearly 5 years ago (2009.)  It was until I recovered another lost ring for a another co-worker that had also been lost for nearly 5 years.   He was pretty sure that it would be in a small area next to the driveway.  After going over that several times with no luck we moved to the back yard.  It’s actually a pretty good size yard, figured it would take about 3-4 hours to go over it quickly.  Luckily about half way down the 3rd pass came across a signal that was right in the pull tab range but was a good solid consistent signal.   Dug a fairly shallow plug flipped it over and there it was, I looked over my should at him and he had a look of disbelief on his face.
