Man’s Wedding Band Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Holden Beach NC

This adventure started when I saw a FB post on the Holden Beach FB Group page stating the author Susie’s nephew had lost his wedding ring while playing catch on the beach. I commented on the post saying, “Call me if I can help” along with a link to my Blog in TheRingFinders.com web page. I also sent her pm with the same information. A short time later Susie responded to my pm and we went back and forth with questions and answers. At the end, I told her I was on my way and gave her my eta.

I arrived shortly before 830 pm and messaged Susie saying, “I’m here.” I met Susie’s nephew, Bailey in the driveway and we walked out on the beach. By now it was getting dark, but Bailey was able to show me the suspected area where he had been playing catch. He said that he and his brother had been playing catch and at some point, his ring slipped off his finger. Luckily, he caught it and put it back on his finger. He then said when they were finished playing catch; he went back to where the family was sitting and joined them. The suspected area wasn’t huge, but it was big enough and it was pitch black by then. After 2 hours of doing grid searches in both the suspected area and where the family had been sitting by headlamp, I wasn’t having any luck. I called it a night, thinking I’d be back the following day with a much larger and expanded search area. I didn’t convey my plan to Bailey when we said goodbye. I had a few things I needed to get done the next day and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a promise I couldn’t keep.

Today, Thursday everything had worked out and I let Susie know by messenger that I was coming back up, which she agreed to. Then I called my good friend, Burwin and told him what was going on and asked if he wanted to come along. He quickly agreed, which he always does when I ask. We got there shortly after 5 pm and I showed Burwin the 2 areas. I took the Family gathering spot and Burwin started a grid search in the suspected area. While I’m working my area, Burwin was expanding his grid search across the top of the beach along the high tide line. Burwin then started working an east/west gird search down the sloop towards the oceans, which was about mid tide by then. A short time later, I look to see where Burwin was and I see him raising his arm, which only meant one thing – He Found It! Where he found it was completely on the opposite side of the suspected area of the beach. I knew Bailey, Susie and the rest of the family were at dinner, so I took a picture of the ring and sent it to them. Within a couple of minutes, I got a message from Susie saying “OMG!!!!! They are so happy!!!!” I responded that I was leaving the ring under a shell on a table on the back porch. Another happy ending and a vacation saved.

Vacation time on Cape Cod has almost come to an end. Now it was time for a local to leave far a vacation thru Spain with a 15 mile a day hike itinerary. That is Chris’ plan but first she had to find a family heirloom ring. She had looked “everywhere” with no luck in finding the ring and new it was time to reach out for help. One town official gave her the name of the local dealer of metal detectors, J&E Enterprise. Due to the urgency of finding the ring before the air flight to Spain left, my number was given to Chris. One call for help, a few minutes to determine if I could help and I was on my way to start a search.

I arrived even before Chris showed up. After I had my gear ready Chris pointed out the area where the ring might have been lost, and we reviewed the previous day’s activities. While I started my search Chris, with a few suggestions from me, went inside to do a search of her own.

I started in the outdoor shower with a pin-pointer and a detector that could “see” through the floor boards. Nothing rang out, I moved to the path to and the bird feeding area. Again, nothing. That is when Chris came out to show me the ring I had been searching for. It had come off of her finger the previous night as she packed for the trip. At this point we both were thrilled, Chris because she had the ring back on her finger and myself because I would not have to tell her that the ring is not in the areas you have told me about. There is nothing worse that having to tell a person “I did not find the object”.

This type of search has happened more than once. It is related to the fact that one feels that the “missing” object is right “here” when in reality it is over “there”. The “here” is where the object was noticed that it was missing, not where it was really lost. That is why I ask a series of questions before a search begins, just to determine the entire area that may be involved with the loss. An average metal detector is useless inside a house due to the amount of metal, electronic appliances, house wiring, and plumbing also creates a problem. A pin-pointer or a detector with notch filtering may be helpful in certain areas such as an attic.

Another terrific outcome for the day. I am sure the trip will be very special and more enjoyable that Chris will not have been wondering about the ring, at least until she had unpacked.

I received a text message in the evening in regards to helping find the Lost Ring. I quickly called the young man and listen to their story carefully in regards to where they believe the ring went missing.

After 20 minutes on the phone, we decided to meet the next morning at the location, when I met, I was taken to a very large rock where the two were sitting and enjoying a game of cards and the beautiful scenery. He was winning in cards and his wife hit his arm playfully and her ring went flying. They both saw it, but could not find it and spent over three hours looking for it.

On the way back to the car, they went online and found my website and that’s how we got together, there was a lot of things that could’ve gone wrong with this search. When I got there, it was a flat big rock with a lot of cracks and crevices where a ring could easily hang up in, but I wasn’t seeing anything in the first 35 minutes, then I found the ring, so I thought, it turned out to be a test ring that he forgot his wife put on the rock. She wanted to see if the waves would take it away.

After surprising him with the ring to find out it wasn’t the ring it surprise me! lol, shortly after I found the beautiful diamond engagement ring in the cracks of the rock close to the edge, and if it had not worked its way into the crack it would have gone down into the abyss… I may not have been able to get into that pool of water. I believe it would’ve been way too deep even at low tide. Only married nine months they’re technically newlyweds, and I knew how important this ring was to find.

Hey smile says it all… I love my job!!!

Lost wedding ring in RV Park

While traveling back home from Arkansas over the weekend I had encountered a big mishap at our stop over outside of St Louis on Saturday night.

We had just parked the trailer and were walking the dogs when Penny’s leash caught my wedding rings just right and they went FLYING… Into the middle of a field of very thick, tall grass. Of course it was dark, why wouldn’t it be!! I didn’t move from my spot while Joe took the dogs back and grabbed flashlights. We searched for about 2 hours. We started weighing our options. Joe jumped on Reddit reaching out to see if he could find anyone willing to bring a metal detector for us. He stumbled upon a website called theringfinders.com

Luckily Jeremy Roth – The RingFinder’s responded right away and offered to come out early the very next morning so we wouldn’t have any delays in our travels. With his help I was able to recover my rings. And let me tell you, we weren’t even close to looking at where it had landed. The physics still isn’t adding up to me but what a relief!!! I’m forever grateful for Jeremy.

David and Avery were enjoying a day at the beach in Ocean City, NJ. Avery removed her promise ring and placed it on a t-shirt that was on top of a beach bag. When one of the family members took the bag, not realizing the ring was on it, the ring went missing. David reached out to me and described the situation; I was on my way. Shortly after another recovery, I arrived and began the search. Shortly after gridding the area, the ring was found. Great ending in Ocean City, NJ!

Charm lost on Volleyball Court, Allenhurst NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  I was on the road heading home from a recovery, when I saw a message come across from Alan. He lost a very sentimental gold charm, on the volleyball court the day before and was very interested to see if I would be able to locate it with my metal detector. He told me it was a private location, and with that I knew I had some time before I had to get to his recovery. I asked him to give me a call later on in the evening and I would see what other calls I had in that area and try to schedule them together.  As it turns out, I was heading up to that area the next morning and told Alan I would do his recovery right after I finished the first one I had already scheduled . I got all the details I needed, as he was 95% sure the Charm was on the volleyball court. Once I got there I made a couple of paths along the one side of the court, when I got a sweet tone from my metal detector, and sure enough, it turned out to be his charm. I sent Alan a picture, which he could not believe that I was able to locate it. He was not in the area anymore, so he requested that I leave the charm  with the homeowner. Alan requested to withhold his picture, and I fully understand , some people just don’t want to be on Facebook. Another recovery in the books .

Yellow gold wedding band lost in Lake Del Valle….Found in 4 feet of water!

Ben text me with a request for help searching for his gold wedding band lost in Lake Del Valle over the holiday weekend.  Since I was out of town for work early in the week, we agreed to search towards the end of the week.

 

On Friday, I geared up for the search and we made plans to meet at the lake after my shift.  Since I got to Del Valle a bit earlier than our agreed meet up, I jumped in and started the search.  The lake was remarkably quiet considering the amount of debris along its shore(s) and picnic areas.  I now knew that if I could get the coil over our target we were going to be successful.

Ben arrived shortly after I cleared the area out in front of one of the buoys.  He showed me an area that he believed the ring would be found and it wasn’t long before I got a strong double beeping low-tone.  Due to thick vegetation on the gravel bottom it would take a bit of time and Ben’s assistance, but… We Made The Recovery!!!

After a quick celebration in the water, Ben and I met up on the beach for some photos.  It was a beautiful Friday for the recovery and an excellent way to end the week.

Ring lost at a Mission Bay Beach found

Barry was in charge of his wife’s three rings while she took a dip in the water of Mission Bay. He dutifully place the rings in his shirt pocket. After a bit, he decided to go into the water also, and took his shirt off and left it there at their picnic table. When he returned, he put his shirt back on and then realized that one of the rings was missing…..the engagement ring. A search ensued, but, the ring wouldn’t show itself. He even came the next morning to search again. Figuring it was most likely right there close by in the dry sand, Barry found TheRingFinders.com and gave me a shout. I met him at the site and after moving some benches to get some “swinging room” I went to work with gridding the area around their table. After a few coins and junk signals, I got a sweet and solid 22 on my Equinox 900 display. One short scoop and this beautiful ring was back in the sunshine. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Found Wedding Ring in VT river

I got a call a few days ago from a woman who’s husband had lost his wedding ring in a Vermont river. They were tubing with their little daughter. He had gotten a little far out in front, so he put on the brakes by dragging his hands along the rocky river bottom. Unfortunately, his ring got knocked off his finger, so he jumped out of the tube and went straight to shore. When his wife and daughter caught up, they all searched for it. But the water was a tiny bit too deep and fast to find it without a detector.

So, I went right there after work and searched for about 2-1/2 hours with no luck. We arranged to meet this morning for another search. I was a little concerned about another storm coming along and sweeping it down the river for who knows how far. Our storms have been causing so many destructive floods lately, it’s unbelievable how far gravel, big rocks and trees can be swept along. My wife and I are leaving for a week’s vacation tomorrow, so the pressure was on to find it today!

We met at 8:00 am and got started. Luckily, the river had gone down a little more. In about an hour, I got a good signal. I looked down into the water and saw a color that I liked! It was a slight reddish tone of rose gold that his ring was made of. It must’ve been stepped on because only a tiny bit was showing above the gravel botton.

It was a fun search for a very nice little family on a beautiful river. I loaned them a detector so they could search their land for historical relics. Hope they find something cool!

Recently I received a message from someone who had lost one of her gold earrings while visiting Honeymoon Island with her children. During my second search of the area where she thought she had lost the earring, I detected and dug up a phone in the soft dry sand. This was the second phone I had recovered recently at Honeymoon Island; the first one was in about knee deep water while I was searching for a lost ring.

I was able to charge the phone and unlike the first phone I found, thankfully the owner had his emergency medical contact information on the emergency call screen. I called one of the contacts listed and he in turn contacted the owner whose name was Harry who had lost the phone two days before while visiting Honeymoon Island with several friends. Harry called me on another phone he was using temporarily and later that day came to my home to pick up his phone.

Harry, it was a pleasure meeting you and being able to return your phone. And even though you shouldn’t have, thank you for the generous reward as well!
