.. Keri and her family are vacationing in Newport Beach from Salt Lake City, Utah. On the second day of their 7 day vacation she discovered her white gold diamond ring was missing. The family went to the beach that morning and she realized she still was wearing her diamond wedding ring. She put it in the beach bag for safe keeping.

After returning to their summer rental house. She couldn’t find her ring in the bag. They believed the ring may have come out of the bag while they were at the beach. Several members of the family had retrieved items from the bag and it could be possible the ring could be in the sand.

I met them shortly after they called me that evening. After not finding the ring in the dry sand, I learned that they had actually set up their beach chairs below the normal towel line. The tide was high so I agreed to return at 6:30am searching the low tide wet sand. After two hours I had cleared most the low tide area. No ring to be found.

I only had a few minutes before I had to leave for a 9:30 doctor’s appointment. My best move would be to expand the towel line search where Keri’s husband told me they had not been that far south. Guess what ! Yes the ring was there and not down in the wet low tide. Actually nobody could definitely say where the ring came out of the beach bag. Remember Keri didn’t even know the ring was missing until they had returned to their summer rental. Process of elimination is what we were doing, just lucky that the ring was hiding in the sand where a Metal Detector can find it.

.. Kyle’s wife, Calli called me for help to find a gold wedding band. Calli and her husband Kyle believed was lost in the dry sand at San Clemente Beach, CA. They could be at the location to meet me just before sunset. It’s a 24 mile drive on the freeway with very little traffic, so the drive was easy.

They were not sure when the ring came off Kyle’s finger. He only realized it was missing when they returned home. I grid searched a 40’ x’40’ area thoroughly and couldn’t find the ring. I could say I was sure there was no ring in the area I had searched.

After asking a few more questions they told me that Kyle had been surfing that same day, but he was a beginner and had only been in waist deep water. I told them that if the ring was out there, the odds of finding the ring  were not in his favor. I came back the next morning at 6am low tide. After an hour and a half as I was running out of area to search, I got a perfect signal. A couple scoops later I had Kyle’s gold ring in my scoop. He had been walking back and forth in the wet sand hoping to see the ring visually.

I held up the ring and he ran over to verify it was his ring. He immediately called his wife using FaceTime showing her the ring and where we were at the low tide zone. I was careful not to give him false hope because we had to take a chance that this could be where the ring came off his finger. Usually rings lost surfing are lost too far out to be found at low tide. At least at most of our west coast beaches.  I only tried this search because Kyle’s wife convinced me he was a beginner surfer and he wasn’t out with the other surfers.

Pendant Lost from Necklace in the Sand at Corona Del Mar State Beach Recovered and Returned

Tim was playing volleyball with his friends at Corona Del Mar Beach with is in the city of Newport Beach, CA. When he jumped up to spike a ball over the net. He felt his cross pendant snag on the net. His cross pendant pulled loose from his necklace.

His friends found me detecting on the beach asking for help to find Tim’s sentimental keepsake.

A short walk across the sand was not a problem for me. Besides I’d rather recover and return a lost item for someone than wonder around on the beach finding a few coins, pull tabs and bottle caps.

Tim was able to show me the general area. A couple quick swings of my detector coil and I received a signal. Good thing the metal detector was in all metal mode because the cross was ferrous metal. I’ve learned in past searches that you can’t always assume that jewelry is precious metals. I could have missed the target if I was searching in discrimination mode.

He and his friends were very happy to see how easy it was to find their friend’s pendant. They didn’t know that they could have spent hours trying to find it in the sand.. Timing was important as it is with all searches.

I received a call from Sosan asking for help to find a piece of jewelry lost in grass at a private park in Newport Coast, Newport Beach, CA. The call came an hour before sunset and they had been searching for hours. I was only 5 miles from the location, so we made arrangements to get me through the security gate and I was there soon after the original call.

I met Sosan’s husband who was able to tell me some of the details of the lost Cartier Love bracelet. It had been a large party at the park with a awesome venue. She had been in a specific area when she felt her two piece bracelet was loose. A few minutes later the bracelet had fallen off her wrist. The first half was easily found visually, soon after. The other half was another story. It was hiding in the deep grass and should have been close to the other piece. It was also amazing that such a large piece of jewelry could be completely hidden out of site in the deep grass.

I was also sure the large 18k (17 grams ) gold half of the Cartier Love Bracelet would be easy to find with my Metal Detector. You just never know, It did show up over 30 feet from where the other half was found. It was getting a bit testy when I had to expand my search area. Persistence paid off and we had a special celebration as the sunset. It was my pleasure to meet Sosan and her husband to help them find the sentimental piece of jewelry.

Andrew had been visiting Laguna Beach from San Francisco. He was helping his good friend plating seedlings and maintaining a large garden. Before return to the house Andrew realized that sometime during the gardening he lost his gold ring.

They spent several hours going over the area where they had been working. They even dug up the seedling plants to inspect the hole for the lost ring.. in an attempt to research if a metal detector could help locate the ring, Andrew found TheRingFinders website. He found my contact information, calling me to ask how the service works.

I drove to the Laguna Beach home that same day. We proceeded to get set up in the large garden on a hillside of the property. Grid searching the area was a bit time consuming because there were several metal targets that had to be investigated. I always search in all metal mode when doing ring recoveries. It’s common that people aren’t sure if the ring was gold or silver, they often say silver colored . There is quite a difference between the signals that gold and silver show on the newest models of metal detectors .. After doing a double/ triple grid, the ring showed up next to a large plant that had interfered with my ability to swing the detector coil on my first pass.

I could feel that Andrew and his friend were beginning to lose hope as I was nearing the end of places to search. Then, Boom !! I spotted the ring after getting the perfect gold ring signal. I didn’t say anything, just asked them to come over to look at something at the base of the plant.

Another great experience to witness the happiness and gratitude from Andrew and his friend who thought this was impossible to find such a small item in a huge garden. Also, Andrew now knows his ring is 14 k white gold marked inside band.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Ocean at Laguna Beach Saved and Returned

Ben called asking about how this metal detecting service works, an often asked question. He had been swimming the day before and believed his ring might be in the ocean. He didn’t actually feel it come off. Also, he didn’t realize his white gold wedding band was not on his finger until later that evening.

I explained that if he was swimming at a higher tide, we might have a chance to find it at the next low tide. It’s nothing I can guarantee as the sand conditions vary from one beach to another and time of the year. Also he didn’t feel it come off. The only thing I know from experience, is rings are commonly lost when fingers shrink in the colder ocean waters.

The only thing I can guarantee is, when I finish gridding an area I can say it’s not there. I was there at the location Ben showed me, but it was not low tide. I told him I may have to return at the next low tide. As long as I was there I could search out as far as the surf conditions would allow me. The most important factor was I had a 50’ to 75’ wide area that he was sure he had been.

I suggested that Ben go enjoy his day with his family. This was going to be a preliminary search and I would return later at low tide. Just before leaving the beach I got a nice signal. BOOM!! White gold wedding band just 20 ft. outside my search area. Ben’s ring showed an hour after we talked. He was amazed and very grateful to have his ring back where it belongs,

… Cache located in backyard. SPOILER ALERT ! The contents of the cache has been kept a secret as I agreed to a NDA .. non disclosure agreement.

Here’s the rest of the story. Sara called me telling me she needed help to find a buried item in her backyard. Her father had buried a plastic tube in the backyard with valuables to be given to his four daughters. He has past away unexpectedly.

He had given Sara verbal directions and told her the items were in a black pvc tube that was wrapped in plastic. It was buried in a garden area and most of it was under the concrete deck.

The sisters had tried digging all along the garden and a couple feet under the cement deck. They had no luck finding the buried tube that she knew contained metal items.

We agreed to meet at the residence on a week day afternoon. When I accessed the area it was 90% dug up with piles of dirt along the patio deck. I chose to use my detector with a small probe type coil, several pinpointers with extension handles and a 4 foot bottle probe.

There was at least one metal pipe that was a bit troublesome but I proceeded to check all the excavated hole. Secondly I decided to do some preliminary probing with the bottle probe. “BINGO”.. as I probed the beginning of where they had started the digging, I felt the probe hit plastic. From Sara’s description of the tube and how it was wrapped, I knew this had to be the treasure.

Three of the sisters were in the house making lunch for us ( part of the deal I made) .. They were excited about the find and called the fourth sister. They had agreed beforehand that every one would be present when the treasure was opened which would be tomorrow. I had already agreed to a non disclosure of the cache or its contents, so I didn’t get to see its contents. That OK with me. It was an awesome recovery and the ladies were very nice. Lunch was awesome .. Thank You for the Lunch !!

*** Dana was playing a volleyball game on the sand at Huntington State Beach, CA. During the playoff tournament game her soldered 3 gold diamond ring set came off her finger, disappearing into the sand. It was an important game, so they didn’t take time to search until after the game.

After the game all the players teamed up to search the sands for the ring set. Even though it was fairly large size they couldn’t find the ring set. Everyone left the beach, but Dana stayed frantically searching the sand by herself. This was so important as it was a wedding ring her dad gave to her mother and past down to her by her mother.

I received the call at 8:25 pm. After Dana told me she was still at the location, I told her the beach entrance is closed at 9pm. Even though it was close, there were at least 12 stop lights between my place and the beach entrance. If she could stay there we should be able to find it quickly.

The first success was to arrive before the entry gate closed. The whole beach parking lot was empty when I met Dana . We walked across the sand to one of 30 volleyball courts and within a few minutes my metal detector gave me that sweet sound of gold. The beautiful gold diamond wedding ring set was saved and returned to Dana.

I was surprised to leave my home, get to the location before the gates closed, find the ring, take a couple photos and return home in less than an hour from the time she called me.
