A fun afternoon at the beach in Sea Isle City nearly ended in disappointment. A husband was enjoying the surf while throwing a football with family and friends. During one throw, his wedding band slipped from his finger and disappeared beneath the waves.

The family searched the water but had no luck. They knew the current and shifting sand could quickly hide the ring forever.

Thankfully, they contacted Ring Finders South Jersey right away.

I was on the road within minutes and arrived at the beach about 20 minutes later. After learning exactly where the ring was lost, I suited up and entered the surf.

Recovering jewelry in moving saltwater requires experience, patience, and the right equipment. I carefully worked a small grid pattern while the waves rolled across the search area.

A few minutes later, my detector gave a solid signal.

I reached into the sand beneath the water and pulled the missing wedding band from what many would call Davy Jones’ locker.

The relief on the owner’s face was unforgettable. What began as a stressful moment quickly became one of celebration.

Quick action made all the difference. Waiting even a few hours could have allowed the tides to move the ring much farther away.

At Ring Finders South Jersey, I specialize in recovering lost rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and other valuables from beaches, parks, yards, and even the ocean. Every recovery is performed using professional metal detecting equipment and proven search techniques developed through years of experience.

As a proud member of The Ring Finders network since 2016, I have completed more than 500 successful recoveries throughout South Jersey. My goal is always to provide honest service, fast response times, and dependable results that families can trust.

If you lose a ring on the beach or in the surf, avoid digging large holes or searching randomly. Mark the location if possible and call immediately. Acting fast greatly improves the chances of a successful recovery.

Ring Finders South Jersey proudly serves Sea Isle City and beaches throughout Cape May and Atlantic Counties.

Andrew had driven five hours from Long Island City, New York, to attend a spiritual retreat and renewal conference at a beautiful retreat center near Baltimore, Maryland.

During a break between conference sessions, he decided to take a peaceful walk through the woods. The trail led him to a picturesque creek that flowed into a natural mikvah pool—a serene body of water where guests could immerse themselves for relaxation or for personal spiritual reflection and purification.

Sadly, while enjoying the peaceful surroundings, Andrew felt his classic 18K yellow gold Cartier wedding band slip off his finger and disappear into the deep water below. The ring quickly sank to the rocky bottom of the mikvah pool, which was approximately six feet deep in the center.

Andrew repeatedly duck-dived in an attempt to recover his treasured wedding band, but despite his best efforts, the ring remained hidden beneath the stones.

Not knowing where else to turn, Andrew searched online for help. That’s when he discovered THE RING FINDERS, the elite international directory of metal detectorists who specialize in recovering lost rings and other valuable items.

It was a pleasure speaking with Andrew, and I was eager to help. Time was critical because he would be leaving the retreat the following morning to return home to Long Island. We both hoped there would be enough time to recover the ring before his departure.

Andrew introduced me to one of the conference coordinators, who graciously helped arrange access to the property and provided all of the details I needed for the recovery. She was incredibly supportive and did everything she could to make the search possible.

The following day, I arrived at the retreat center with my equipment. My plan was to first attempt the recovery using lightweight water-detecting gear. If the water proved to be too deep to safely stand, I would return with scuba equipment for a full underwater recovery.

The hike to the mikvah pool was longer than I expected, with several uphill sections along the way. The temperature was hovering around 95 degrees, and I could certainly feel the heat as we made our way through the woods. Thankfully, the shaded trail offered some relief before we reached the beautiful natural pool.

The setting was absolutely breathtaking—quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. As we arrived at the water’s edge, we were pleasantly surprised to see Andrew and one of his colleagues, who had managed to step away from the conference to watch the search.

I put on my lightweight neoprene wetsuit and dive boots, assembled my detector, grabbed my scoop, and slowly entered the cool water.

Making my way toward the center of the mikvah pool, I positioned myself as close as possible to where Andrew believed the ring had slipped from his finger. Since Andrew is much taller than I am, we were concerned that I might not be able to stand in the same location. If the water became just a little deeper, scuba gear would be necessary.

Just before the water reached above my neck, my detector gave a beautiful, solid signal.

I had found something.

Barely able to keep my footing, I carefully dug one scoop of rocks from the bottom. As I sifted through the stones with my hands, I suddenly noticed a flash of yellow gold peeking through the pile.

There it was!

Andrew’s beautiful Cartier wedding band had been sitting in the scoop the entire time.

I was especially thankful that I always inspect every scoop carefully before dumping it back into the water. Whether searching on land or underwater, that simple habit has saved countless recoveries over the years.

Andrew was absolutely thrilled. His colleague and the conference coordinator were equally excited as they witnessed the successful recovery unfold before their eyes. What had seemed nearly impossible only a day earlier had become a joyful reality.

After celebrating the recovery with hugs and heartfelt expressions of gratitude, the four of us made the walk back to the retreat center together. We shared our goodbyes, reflected on the adventure, and gave thanks for such a wonderful outcome.

It was a beautiful experience from beginning to end, and I was grateful for the opportunity to help yet another person recover something truly irreplaceable.

Backyard Miracle: Mason’s Lost Platinum Wedding Band Recovered in Alexandria, Virginia

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Mason’s cherished platinum wedding band recovered by Brian Rudolph after being lost for nearly a week in the backyard of his Alexandria, Virginia home.

A relieved and excited Mason proudly holds up his recovered platinum wedding ring after Brian Rudolph successfully located it using professional metal detecting equipment.

There are few things more unsettling than watching something precious disappear right before your eyes — especially when that item represents love, commitment, and years of memories. For Mason, that frightening moment happened on a cold winter afternoon at his home in Alexandria, Virginia.

While taking care of a few things in his backyard, Mason suddenly made a movement and instantly felt his platinum wedding band fly off his finger. In that split second, he believed he saw the ring travel in a particular direction, so he immediately began searching the area where he thought it had landed. Unfortunately, despite his determination and repeated efforts, the ring was nowhere to be found.

The longer Mason searched with a metal detector, the more frustrated and confused he became. How could something he believed landed in plain sight simply vanish? After combing through the yard over and over again, reality began to set in — his beloved wedding ring was truly lost.

Eventually, Mason decided it was time to begin a different kind of search. Looking online for professional help, he discovered both THE RING FINDERS — the international directory of metal detector specialists — and METAL DETECTING ADVENTURES INC, the licensed business owned and operated by me, Brian Rudolph. Before long, Mason and I were discussing all of the details surrounding the disappearance of the irreplaceable platinum wedding band.

By the time I arrived at Mason’s Alexandria, Virginia property, nearly a week had passed since the ring vanished into the winter grass. Mason carefully explained what had happened and pointed out the sections of the backyard where he believed the ring may have landed.

Within minutes, I began setting up a detailed search grid and started metal detecting the property. Ironically, it took longer to lay down the grid lines than it did to actually recover the lost ring!

In less than an hour, my metal detector signaled a promising target hidden in the yard. Moments later, Mason’s missing platinum wedding band was safely back in his hands — and quickly returned to the finger where it belonged.

Relief, excitement, and gratitude instantly replaced the stress and disappointment Mason had carried for the previous week. What once seemed impossible had suddenly become a successful recovery story with a very happy ending.

For Mason, the platinum wedding band was far more than a piece of jewelry. It was a cherished symbol of love and commitment. Thanks to the successful recovery, that treasured symbol remains part of his story for many years to come.
