Mike gave me a call yesterday about his wife’s lost wedding band. The couple was on the beach in Avalon, NJ when Carly’s engagement ring and wedding band flew off her finger into the sand while applying sunscreen. They found the engagement ring but could not find the band. Mike called me and I met them shortly after to start the search. After a few swing of the metal detector, the ring was back on her finger.

Matt and his family spent some time on the beach in Atlantic City, NJ today. For safekeeping, he put his wedding band in his hat. As he was walking off the beach, he remembered that he didn’t put the ring back on. It was too late by that point. The ring was already lost in the sand. He gave me a call and I met him and his parents where they thought the ring could have dropped. After a few minutes of searching, I was able to recover the band!

Ring Lost in Whangarei Paddock for Two Years – Found!

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Nearly two years ago, Jono lost his wedding ring in a farm paddock.
He had been walking back across the paddock towards the house, after working in one of the outbuildings. Idly playing with the ring as he walked.
Once back at the house, he noticed it was now missing.

Retracing his steps failed to locate it in the grass, and he reluctantly gave it up as lost.
After reading about my recent recoveries, Jono decided it might be worth trying to retrieve the ring and gave me a call.

He wanted it, hopefully, to be a surprise for his wife so he cunningly organised the search for when she wasn’t home 🙂
I met up with Jono shortly after she had left and we went through the details of the loss, and where he thought it might be.
While he went to turn off the electric fence, I showed his young kids how the detector worked, giving each a turn on the headphones while I waved my hand with my own wedding ring over the coil.
It was a struggle getting the phones back off the youngest, who was transfixed by the detector chattering away due to the overhead powerlines.

The search area was going to be a corridor across the paddock. Starting at the fence nearest the house, I began to work my way across the paddock towards the shed.
Early in the search, I unearthed one of his childrens toy cars – so someone was happy already 🙂
Stock had pugged the ground fairly badly, so I was listening for a deeper target. After a few false hits I got a clean non-ferrous tone about 15-20cm down.
I dug the small spade in and turned a clod of soil over. In the bottom of the upturned plug was his ring.
Still shiny in the sunlight after its time underground.
Smiles all round.

Ironically, Jono is the immediate neighbour of another recovery I had previously done.
Jono lives directly over the road from Luke who had his wedding ring sucked off his finger by a calf he was feeding a couple of years ago. Also found and returned, again from a paddock, and just a couple of days before his anniversary.

She realized the rings were missing after she got home and thought they might have dropped in the sand while packing up her beach chair. She gave me the general location of where she sat on the beach and I went to go search. Within 20 minutes of using the metal detector, both rings were found.

Pam reached out to me about finding her friend Sara’s lost promise ring in Ocean City, New Jersey. They had moved their chair setup back as the tide was coming in. The ring had fallen in to the sand. Upon arrival and turning on the machine a crowd had gathered. Next to me one of the spectators saw the ring on the slope as the wave was coming, as I was about to put the coil over the ring! I was able to pick it up! Not all rings found are with the metal detector.

Al called me about his father’s lost gold chain that had a very precious item on it. In addition to his gold Cross, Morris wears his wife’s wedding band on the chain. He took the jewelry off before he went swimming and placed them on top of his bag. He didn’t realize they had fallen into the sand until later in the evening. I met up with Morris and Al on the beach in Wildwood Crest, NJ to find the jewelry. Shortly after looking with the metal detector, his chain was found and placed back around his neck with the Cross and the ring now close to his heart.

Lost a Ring?

Don’t Wait to Call!

I received a text from Caroline about her lost ring in Sea Isle City, NJ. It is very sentimental because it’s the first piece of jewelry her boyfriend gave her. She put that ring and another one in her cup holder but forgot to tell her boyfriend they were in there, so both dropped in the sand when he closed the beach chair. I met her on the beach and started to search.
After a few scans with the metal detector, the rings were found!
