Just as I was putting the finishing touches to the previous posting, my phone rang and much to my surprise Sean was on the phone. We talked about last night’s ring return at his wedding reception. Then he dropped the news that he had his ring that had been on his finger just about a day before it slipped off and buried itself into the dry sand. Yes, of course I would be right there, how could I refuse such a bizarre set of circumstances.

How could this repeat? I got to the beach and did not see Sean. Just like the night before no one was there to greet me. I called and sure enough Sean had not yet arrived but did so in another minute. Then a short walk to two circles in the sand. The smaller one was Sean’s best bet but said it may be out as far as the second circle. On my second pass there was on iffy signal but was too deep. Continuing onto my third pass, there it was the wonderful sound in my ears of a ring. One scoop and a few shakes to rid the scoop of excess sand and I saw the glitter of a ring.

Sean, with doubt, looked into the scoop and retrieved the ring. After a bit of being unsure it was his as it was still covered with sand. Then when all the sand fell away and the Celtic Knots glittered in the flashlight’s beam the smile came. I wish I had my camera ready at that moment, but I did not so the picture of the smile will have to live in my memory, something I cannot share, sorry.

A brisk walk back to the parking lot a few pictures and Sean with his ring was off to his mother’s home and his new bride whom I am sure will have an equally wonderful smile tonight. What a story, what a beautiful, dark star lit sky, soft gentle breeze and swish of the incoming tide and another Happy Ending. I am sure that both Sean and I will remember the night for many years. I am also sure we both went home to our bride, and before going off to dream land we would reconcile any of the day’s tense feelings with our wife, say an “I Love You” and give a good night kiss. West Dennis Beach, MA – Gives Back Lost Silver Ring

Andrea lost her Wave, Sand and Sea ring while walking the shoreline. For six years the ring had brought Andrea many calming and wondrous thoughts of Cape Cod and its beaches. The loss had happened in the presence of her sister who had lost an earring a few years ago but had forgotten who and how to contact for help. She did called a mutual friend who contacted me. I called and set up a meet to search for the lost ring.

Both women marked the area that the ring was lost at the previous day. Seaweed made it near impossible to swing a detector’s coil, but I managed only to finish the area with out finding the ring. I expanded the search area and within another five minutes I had found the ring.

All that was left to do in the fading sunlight was to snap a few pictures, get a bit of information for the blog, and exchange a few stories. It was a perfect ending to a very hot day on Cape Cod, another “Beautiful Place To Be”.

Dennis, Massachusetts Chapin Beach Platinum Ring Lost, Found and Returned

Talk about coincidence:

Leighton and myself had been successful in an early morning ring return, some leisurely detecting, a cup of coffee and departed each other’s company for the day. OOPS Leighton left his wallet in my car. I called and he did a U-turn and returned to retrieve the wallet. While I was waiting a call came in for help in finding a lost wedding band. Yes, Leighton would join in on the search immediately.

Jack lost his platinum wedding band when he did a back flop into the thigh deep water too cool off. He did succeed in the cooling off and also offed his ring as well. This was happening at the same time that Tim took his wedding band off to apply sunscreen lotion not but a few hundred yards down the beach. All the searching that was done did not located the ring.

That evening Jill, Jack’s wife was talking to Nicole, Tim’s wife. They were astound that their husband both had a Platinum wedding band, each of which were lost within minutes, within yards of each other and each would be found and returned by the same person.

Is it not strange how incidents just seem to harmonize and bring people together and make a sad situation into one to celebrate. After Smiles, Hugs, and many Thanks, Leighton and I were on our way home. Total time was less than an hour to the conclusion of this happily ending adventure.

Man’s Wedding Band Lost & Found on Private Dennis, Massachusetts Beach.

With sun screen lotion applied and ready for a great game of Spikeball Thomas was ready to enjoy his vacation get away. Not only was he ready so was his ring. His ring had been waiting for two years for a short bit of freedom to frolic on a sandy beach for a day. A quick spike at a ball and then it took its chance.

Several hours of looking and hand sifting of the sand did not reveal the ring’s hiding place. A call to a Ring Finder … and I was on my way. Within 20 minutes I was talking to Thomas face to face. A short walk to the beach and Thomas was pointing out where the blanket was, where Spikeball was played, and the area where he had swam.

Low tide was now, so I started the search at the water’s edge and progressed up the beach’s slope. At the top of the slope was the area where Spike Ball was played and Thomas’s wedding band had made its escape. The dry sand was to be my second area to search. The entire beach had been cleaned with a beach rake and I could see not only my tracks of the tight search pattern I was holding but also Thomas’s footprints. As I passed my coil over Thomas’s footprint I head the signal that was unmistakably from a desirable target. Two scoops, a spread of the sand pile, and there was a “clunk clunk” from my scoop. I knew I had the item I was searching for, Thomas’ ring. To my surprise 5/12/18 was inscribed in side…my birthday May 12th.

I walked back to Thomas’s cottage and rinsed off my gear, and took a few notes after giving Thomas his ring. I had forgotten to pick up my camera and cell phone that were charging and my unfinished fresh cup of coffee when I left home. Thomas came to my aid and took the pictures needed for this story and offered a cup of coffee. Happy vacation days can now continue with smiles and a new vacation story to tell.

Rapid Response Metal Detecting Service in Dennis MA, Lost Wedding Band found and returned

Jeff a family friend of Kate to whom we, Luke and I, found and returned a ring to last year needed our assistance this year. Jeff had taken his ring off to apply sun screen and “safely” placed it in a pocket from which it somehow found its way into the damp sand.

How did Jeff reach out for help? It was Jeff’s good fortune that he had taken a picture of Luke’s “TheRingFinders” shirt last year which has Luke’s phone number on it. Jeff called Luke who was in Rhode Island at the time. Luke in-turn called me for help. About 15 minutes later I was getting my gear ready for the search. Jeff met me at the car park and we walked to the beach. A quick reminisce of last year’s events and a quick overview of where his ring should be and I was on the hunt. The first signal was a fresh beer bottle cap, the second was Jeff’s ring. Total search distance searched was ten feet covered in less than one minute and in less than half an hour from the time I left home I was home again. This search resulted in one of the fastest returns, if not the fastest I have been involved in.

Once again all is well on the home front.

Double Ring Return at West Dennis Beach: Dennis, MA – PART 2 OF 2

While looking for a lost platinum wedding band I had been told about another lost ring. The first ring was found in about 20 minutes. Now the pre-teen’s father and mother were standing on the beach hoping to “see the Ring”. That was not likely to happen. After a short conversation I started searching for the ring high on the beach face working to the water’s edge. Not finding the ring where I thought it would be, I right away started searching perpendicular to the water and on the second pass the second platinum ring of the hour was in my scoop.

I rinsed off the sand from my scoop and the ring and then let the owner remove his ring from my scoop. Total time from starting to search for one lost ring I ended up finding and returning two rings in less than 40 minutes. What a thrill, for me and both of the men needless to say their wife’s thrill when I gave the sentimental rings back to their husband.

Double Ring Return at West Dennis Beach: Dennis, MA – PART 1 OF 2

Dave had called, left a message and sent an e-mail alerting me to his lost ring at a local beach about 22 hours past. It was near Lifeguard chair 2. I was ready and headed out for what I hope to be a quick search, recovery and return. Aha, the dreaded seaweed had invaded my area of search. That seaweed really slowed my search speed down but not my results.

Just after I started searching two pairs of two pre-teenagers asked if I was looking for the lost ring. I said “yes” and was told that I was in the wrong place. Two of the pre-teens were infatic that I needed to go about 20 yards down the beach and that the ring had been lost today. Well, not the ring I was looking for, the ring I was searching for had been lost was laying on the ocean floor for the second day. Little did I know at the time the ring the two boys were talking about was the pre-teen’s father and he had just lost his ring. You guessed it I now had another ring to search for. I told the pre-teens if they stayed away that I would look for their father’s ring right after finding the one I was currently looking for.

I found the first ring in about 15 minutes, a very nice platinum wedding band. I was off to find the second ring. The ring was reunited with Dave an hour later at my house.

Dennis, Cape Cod, MA – Colby a 14 year old detectorist did the right thing!

This is what my idea of metal detecting is all about: Doing the right thing, obeying the rules and comradeship. Here is a story of a return that took many turns to a fabulous end. In chronological order this is what transpired, to the best of my recollection. Sunday afternoon Bennet was enjoying the thrills on a Cape Cod beach and took his necklace and wedding band off an put them into a beach chair’s pocket for safe keeping. Sometime later while packing up to leave the beach the chair was folded and carried to the parking lot. During the movement the jewelry fell from the pocket and was buried in the soft sand. The missing items were not noticed until Bennet went to retrieve them from the pocket. They were not there, gone!

Bennet knew about metal detectors, found J&E Enterprise of South Yarmouth, and rented a detector. To no avail Bennet searched the beach area and returned the rental. At this point he was told about TheRingFinders.com and was suggested he contact a Ring Finder that could help. The first to respond was Leighton who made arrangements to meet up with Bennet and search early on Tuesday morning. Leighton also had no luck in locating the missing items.

Leighton called me and explained the situation. I then called Bennet and set up a search time of 5pm. I left my cell phone and Bennet’s phone number at home, a big mistake. Oh, well…I started to search, found a very good large target area and knew immediately that the detector I was using was too sensitive for the iron in the dry sand. I returned to the car, changed detectors and headed back to find a 5 coin spill which I retrieved. As I moved on I was asked if I had found some coins, yes I had, but I was looking for a gold chain and wedding band. A few more words were passed when Anya piped up with “I saw them Sunday evening, a boy had found them with his detector” AND…the boy is right over there…

I knew what I had to do and hoped what I was going to do did not backfire and cause a problem. I went to the group of people around the boy who was pointed out to me. I introduced myself and said I heard that some jewelry was found Sunday. I was so pleased with what came next. Complete agreement that the right thing to do was to return the items to the rightful owner. And this was from a 14 year old boy named Colby! I know how hard it was for him to give up his Best Find EVER in his two years of detecting. I have been there as others I know have been in the same situation.

Now to get Bennet to the beach…I called my wife from Colby’s father’s cell phone. My wife then call Bennet and he showed up about 20 minutes later, alone. Colby’s prize find was returned to its owner who left and promised to return with a gift for Colby and he did along with many family members. What a sight, all the people mingling, thanking Colby and congratulating Bennet…unbelievable to say the least. Even Anya and her family were in on the act.

This has to be one of my favorite returns. No I did not physically find the lost jewelry, but I did coordinate its return by “finding” the means to get things right. I really do admire Colby and wish him the best with his future detecting adventures.

Cold Storage Beach holds diamond engagement ring overnight – found and returned – Cape Cod

A call for help came via a referral. E-mails followed; one with annotations on a beach photo nailed down the lost ring’s location. After I completed a few to-dos at home I headed off to the beach where I had to use a bit of compassion to have the parking fee waived. I parked, donned my gear and I was off, all set to search the beach. After an unsuccessful first round of searching, I changed detectors and headed back to the sand. I then spoke with a few beach sitters, who were waiting for the sun to set, as to just what I was doing so close to them. To my surprise I was told that they had been present the day before when the ring was lost. I was directed to an area just a few feet away that I had already searched, and Bingo, there was the platinum ring. I thanked the beach sitters as I showed them what I had been looking for and wished them a beautiful sunset and then I left to call Valerie.

A very excited Valerie made arrangements to meet the following day for the ring’s return. She showed up with a spectacular and very fragrant hyacinth and a lovely hand written Thank You card. Photos were taken and a few stories passed. A comment was made about my Japanese Red Maple tree and as it just so happened I had been growing a few and would not let Valerie leave without one for her yard.

A day of Smiles all around!

Flight of the 111 Ring…Lost, Found and Returned in Dennis, MA

Early Contact Makes for Best Chances in Lost Ring being Found and Returned, Cape Cod.

A little football in the water seemed like just the thing to start an evening off with. Splish Splash His Ring Took a Bath. And All the Kings Men Could Not Find the Ring again. By chance Patrick read about TheRingFinders.com and contacted me. I made arrangements with a B&B owner to park in his lot and search his beach at a time that would not interfere with his guests. The next morning was set.
Again with a wealth of knowledge as to the area to search it took me only 45 minutes to find the ring.
The B&B owner was made a believer and now has my name and phone number handy should any of his guests need my help. Some inscriptions just need to be explained. Inside this ring was the number 111, which turned out to be the flight number Patrick met his wife on.
The ring’s return took a bit of doing as I was leaving on a weeks vacation and Patrick’s work schedule
just did not allow him to make a trip to Dennis, Ma in the next couple of weeks. The solution was to mail the ring. I have mailed several rings and never had a problem. This time a Tracking ALERT showed his address did not exist and the package was being forward to another town. Monday morning came and a call to the USPS confirmed a computer glitch and the package was to be delivered in that day’s mail. And it was. Just think were we would be without computers. NO METAL DETECTORS?
