Unique Heavy Gold/Silver Ring Lost in Landscaping at Malibu. CA. .. Recovered

Talya and her friends were staying at a hotel in Malibu,  CA. As she walked down a walkway she raised her hands in the air to point out something to her friends. That’s when her large gold with silver ring flew off her finger into thick landscape plants with thick ground cover. Basically all of her friends witnessed the incident.

I was called at 6pm by Talya’s friend asking what I would charge to meet them the next morning. I told them I could be there before dark to do the search this evening. We agreed that she could be there long enough for her to show me the search area as she and her friends had dinner reservations across the street.

Traffic was not a problem which can be unpredictable on Los Angeles freeways. Talya had saved me a parking place and had permission from management for me to search the planters. She told me that this ring was a birthday gift from her mother. It was a thick ring of 24k gold overlaid on a silver band. It was purchased many years ago in Israel and very sentimental to her.

I used a detector with a small search coil to get into the small spaces under the plants. Then I followed up by using my hand held pinpointer detector to get into places that the other detector could not reach. It was dark and I was running out of places to look. I had actually done three passes on most the heavily planted garden area crawling on my hands and knees.

As a last resort I went down to the street sidewalk where I could reach into the thick undergrowth using the pinpointer. A great signal but with the pinpointer it’s difficult to tell the difference between iron, tin foil and precious metals. I spread the plants apart to see the awesome gold ring just out of sight waiting to be found.

When you go on these kind of calls you just don’t know what kind of obstacles you’re going to have. These plants were very difficult to maneuver through. It took nearly two hours to find the ring.

Called Talya with the good news. She came running across the street with the biggest smile you have ever seen. Then gave me a huge hug and telling how grateful she was to have this special ring saved from being lost forever. It was another one of those searches that I had my doubts about after not finding it after almost two hours. Glad I gave it the extra few minutes.

Lost Ring Dauphin Island – FOUND!!!

Nick and his family were visiting from Oklahoma and had a house on the water in Dauphin Island.  When Nick called I was worried because I was going to be out of town on business for several days but after getting some more information I told him that I thought I could still find it for him when I got back on the weekend.  Nick explained to me that he was playing in the Gulf with his nephew in about 3 feet of water when he took off his ring and showed it to his nephew and joked that he had found “treasure”.  Well he quickly stopped joking when his nephew made a grab for it and it dropped out of his hands and into the water.  Nick and his family looked for hours but weren’t able to recover it.  When I finally got there, they had an over under going on how long it would take me to find it, and if I could find it at all.  Nick had great directions and after some machine adjustments to account for a ton of old nails from an old pier, I heard that awesome Gold sound and got it on the first scoop.  Needless to say, Nick and his family were thrilled and impressed.  This is definitely the most impressive men’s band that I have recovered.  Thank you Nick for giving me the chance to find it for you.

Surfing Haigis Beach Cape Cod, Lost Ring, Exhilarating Search, Book of Smiles

August 2, 2018 Justin Mello lost his wedding band while body surfing the incoming tide. By the time I was contacted it was just too late in the evening to start a search in a rough surf. The next morning Jim and I showed up at 7am and started to search a very angry sea bed. Three foot waves were a threat to our search. We were lucky the waves were calming as the tide was going out. However, our safety was our first objective, finding the ring the second. One set of waves came in and Jim disappeared, playing submarine, not by his choice. When he surfaced he was all in tack save for a bit of seaweed on top of his wet hat. Justin arrived about 8am and told Jim and myself we were in the correct area, but a bit too far out. Heck that was were the big waves were and we were (at least I was) having fun riding them. The tide had gone out for more than an hour, exposing more dry wet sand. We started to search the area that we could not the hour before because of the rough surf. Now in ankle deep water a strong signal said “Dig Me!” and I did. In my scoop was Justin’s white gold wedding band. The exhilarating hunt was over, time for coffee after pictures and a few detecting stories.

Heirloom Lost, Found and Returned on Chapoquoit Beach, MA

July 31, 2018 Emily took a late evening dip in Buzzard’s Bay not knowing King Neptune would be ripping her heirloom engagement ring from her finger. The next day Cindy (her mother), Kevin (her fiance’) and a friend, Isabel had helped in looking for the ring to no avail. At 5:05 I pulled into the parking lot. After introductions and the story of the loss I made it into the water at 5:20. On the third pass in the delineated area and my first target, the ring was found. Many onlookers were amazed at how easily I had made the find. It was not me, it was Emily as she knew exactly were she lost the ring. It was within 8 feet of where she had shown me how she had lost the ring. Kevin showed up about 10 minutes late to see the recovery. But he was in time to enjoy the thrill of Emily having the family heirloom back on her hand, soon to be taken in marriage. Well wishes to a terrific couple.

What are Friends for…yielding a helping hand.

July 31, 2018 Chris lost his wedding band while playing catch in waist deep water. The next morning I searched for 3 hours in an area marked on a birds eye photo of Skatet Beach. The search reviled nothing, except for a few coins and sinkers. At home I planed my next effort to locate the missing ring.
Unbeknown to me, another detecting friend, Luke, per chance without knowing of the lost ring found it. He texted our mutual friend Jim. Jim told Luke that I was looking for the ring he had just found. After confirmation that Luke had found the lost ring, he gave me the ring to return to Chris. It was mailed on Saturday and should be delivered on Monday.
Luke has now made application to become one of the elite TheRingFinders. Welcome, Luke!

Car Key and RemoteThrown Into Bushes in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA…Found and Returned.

While out on the beach doing the night search for the lost wedding band I got a desperate call from Josh. He had thrown his car key and remote off of his apartment balcony into the ivy and bushes, and was unable to find them. I let him know that I would come over as soon as I finished my search for the ring.

I finished my ring search about 10:00 PM, and arrived at Josh’s house about 10:30 PM. He explained what he did and showed me the area. There was not only ivy, but bougainvillea as well, two forms of shrubbery that can hide things well. I put on my headlight, and grabbed my detector and pin pointer and began my search. I found a number of metal items such as cans and bottle caps. I continued my search a little out of the initial area, and found the car key. Josh was surprised and very happy. I continued the search for the remote doing battle with the bougainvillea, but I was losing the battle with blood dripping from my arms from the wicked thorns that were hard to see at night, so I told Josh that I would come the next day when the sun was up to do a more thorough search for the remote. I got there today and asked Josh to recreate the actions he took the previous night. It looked as though the remote was going to be in one of the bushes. I was able to get my detector coil under the bushes, and under one of the bougainvillea got a real good signal. I put the pin pointer under the bush being careful of the thorns, and deep in the bush was the remote. Josh was overjoyed to get his key and remote back, and I was happy to have made his day.

Platinum Wedding Band Lost at Hermosa Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Christina whose husband Bill lost his ring the day before while enjoying the beach with his family. They are vacationing from Sacramento, CA, and to lose his wedding ring of 21 years was not what he expected on the trip. Knowing the County and how they keep this beach clean, we arranged to meet about 30 minutes later.

When I got there Christina and Bill met me and walked me out to the area they believed the loss occurred. I looked around and realized that the beach sifters had not come through the area, so I felt good about the ring still being there. I started my search immediately because although it was morning, people were already filling the beach. I searched the area as fully as possible considering the beach was filling up, but was unable to find the ring. I then let them both know that it was going to futile to continue the search with so many people coming, so I let them know that I would be back to search the whole area again at 8:00 PM when people had gone home. When I returned there were very few people left, and I began again starting from the lowest point on the beach working my up the slope. My first signal was a silver color wedding band, and I thought I had it, so I sent Christine a picture asking if was Bill’s. Bill then met me out on the beach to check the ring. It was not his, it was about 3 sizes too large and made of a different metal than his. He and his son went to get dinner, and I continued my search. About an 1 1/2 hour later I got another good signal, and in my scoop was another silver color ring. I got my flashlight and gave it a closer inspection. This time I could read PLAT on the inside, and it was a much smaller diameter than the previous find.

I called Bill to him know, and he and his son made their was over to where I was waiting. When I showed him the ring he was a bit hesitant regarding claiming it his, until he placed it on his finger and it fit perfectly. He told me he thought the ring was lost forever, and really was appreciative of my effort. I then said The Ring Finders don’t give up! It is so great to know that his joy will be going all the way back to Sacramento.

Red river beach in Harwich ma gives up another ring that was thought to be gone for good

‘Lost on Tuesday July 31 recovered Friday August 3

mike was down on the cape for vacation, he and his family rented a house on red river beach in Harwich so they could enjoy the beach without having to travel the jam packed streets and worry about finding a parking spot. It seemed as if the vacation was going as planned until mike was in the water with his daughter on his shoulders and a large wave slammed into him knocking his tungsten wedding ring off his finger in to the warm yet rougher than normal water.

mike managed to get ahold of Eleanor hube of J&E metal detectors of Yarmouth who rented mike a Tesoro sand shark detector which I think he really enjoyed using but he was unsuccessful in finding the band. When he went back to return the rented machine Eleanor gave him my name and gave me his cell number with a map of the location of the ring, I gave him a call and agreed to look for the ring that night, well the conditions in the water were terrible to say the least and the waves were breaking above my head. I did manage to get a good strong signal last night that I was sure was the ring but actually bringing it to the surface proved too difficult so I called it a night called mike and said I’d be back tomorrow. Well after work I got back to red river around 5:30today and 10 minutes of getting thrashed in the surf resulted in the large ring in the scoop. I exited the water and called mike to give him the news needless to say he was very happy and he contacted his uncle who was still on the cape to pick the ring up

Beautiful Wedding Ring Set Lost in Surf at Dana Point, CA. .. Found Four Days Later.

Roxanne had been at a house party on Sunday. It was at a home on the beach front at Strand Beach, Dana Point, CA. The home had a swimming pool but some of the guests wanted to spend a little time playing in the ocean surf. Mostly just wade in the knee deep water.

Roxanne was standing with her back to the incoming waves when she got surprised by a larger wave that knocked her down. Right away she noticed her white gold  and diamond wedding ring set had fallen in the water. The three rings had recently been soldered together which may have made it easier to find. The water saturated soft sand swallowed the ring. She was devastated and several people tried to retrieve the ring with no success.

Tuesday morning, three days after losing the ring Roxanne called me. She was about an hour from Strand Beach and unable to meet me at the location. So she began to give me directions while talking on the phone. We both had pulled up google maps on our computers,  where she pointed out the two houses that she was directly in front of when the loss occurred. There was a low tide that afternoon that would allow me to check the conditions. I made the 12 mile drive to give it a quick search. No Find.

Early Wednesday morning there would be a minus tide which would be the best chance. I drove back at 2:00 am. After an hour of tight grid searching, I had only found three pieces of metal trash. Then, Boom! I got a very nice strong signal. I dug a scoop full of wet sand reaching into it I could feel the big ring. It was dark but I could feel the stones and the three separate soldered bands. 

I didn’t call Roxanne till about 9am. I wanted to personally tell her that her ring was found. When she answered the phone I was at a loss for words. I finally told her that I had her ring. She burst into tears and I could hear yell across the room to her husband, Dominic. “He found my ring”. I told her to give me a call after she calmed down. We could make arrangements to get it in her hands. 

Both Roxanne and Dominic met me that afternoon. It was a great reunion with smiles all around. She must have had a miserable four days. It’s a happy ending for sure.
