Nadia was out swimming at a local beach with friends. One of her friends suggested she take off her gold necklace before she loses it. She agreed and took it off when it suddenly slipped out of her hand and disappeared into 4 feet of water. Her and her friends dove down for over an hour and couldn’t find it. This necklace was very sentimental to her. It was given to her by her Father just a couple weeks prior. It had initially belonged to Nadia’s Grandmother who had recently passed away. She had a tough time telling her Dad, though he just suggested doing a search for someone who might be able to help. Nadia searched the internet and found theringfinders.com and gave me a call the next day. We set up a day/time to meet and started the search. As I walked out into the water, Nadia told me where to stop and start my scuba search. The very first swing I got a nice hit on my Excalibur metal detector. There it was, a glistening gold necklace. I thought to myself, this is the quickest recovery of my life. I walked up to the shallows and handed it to her, she said, that’s not it. What? I couldn’t believe it, what are the chances? So, I went back in and after pulling out 30 to 40 other targets, I finally recovered Nadia’s necklace.

iPhone Recovered from Lake Mary in Twin Lakes, WI

iPhone Recovered… and Dry

Mike called me on Friday, August 7, 2026, hoping my skills might be helpful in recovering his lost iPhone from Lake Mary in Twin Lakes, WI.  Helping navigate a boat to the docking station with the light from his phone the night before, a mishap landed it in the water.  Would I be able to find it still dry and working?  Modern iPhones like the iPhone 17 carry an IP68 rating, allowing it to be submerged about 19.6 feet for up to 30 minutes.  The conditions in Lake Mary were less than six feet, but by the time I was able to arrive on Friday, it would be close to the 24-hour mark.  I was anxious to get in the water and see if I could find his phone.

Mike was unable to meet me, but his friend Mark met me and walked me through the situation.  I was relieved to find Lake Mary shallow, seaweed-free, and with some visibility.  I started a grid search from one end of the pier back to the docking station:  20 feet one direction, 20 back, repeat.  The area did not have an overwhelming number of metal targets, but I dug each sound I heard, making sure I didn’t miss the phone.  It might be hidden by the 1-2 inches of silt covering the bottom, I thought.

My horizontal grid search did not reveal the phone, and after about an hour underwater, I was concerned the encroaching darkness of the already cloudy day might end my search.  I switched to the vertical lines of my grid, and pushed deeper into the lake than I had with my horizontal grid.  About 18 minutes later, a simultaneous sound and sight brought an underwater cheer that only I heard.  There it was, screen down on top of the silt, the green rectangular case clearly visible.  It was lost in a depth of about five feet.

I stood up and looked toward the house.  A group of friends was gathered for dinner, and I could hear music.  I held the phone high into the air and waited to see if anyone noticed.  A chorus of cheers sounded.  “He found it!” one voice called out.

Not knowing if the iPhone might malfunction if I tried turning it on, I decided to let Mike take the next steps.  I left the phone with Mark and headed home.  

The next morning, I received the text I was hoping for.  A photo of Mike with a dry and working phone.  His text said, “We are alive and working perfectly.  Another successful mission!”

The Atlantic Ocean Makes the Catch! Man’s White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

This search started on Friday, Aug. 8, 2026, when I got a text just after noon saying in part, “Hi Jim, Found your number in ring finders. We are currently staying at the Shelby in Myrtle Beach. I was having a catch around 12pm today ankle deep with my son. Wedding band flew off my finger. Locals told me about the site. Wondering if it’s something you may help me find. I’ll try to find a picture of it. It’s silver color, with a Celtic design. My name is Bob and he added his phone number. I was between the south tower of the Shelby and the main tower, probably not much past where their tiki bar is at their pool.” I looked up the current tide table and saw it was about 45 minutes before high tide. So, he lost his ring just about mid-tide and it would be completely under water by the time I got there. I called Bob and we discussed the situation with him telling me that he and his family had plans for that evening and wouldn’t be able to meet me. It’s very helpful to get first hand and face to face information so I agreed to meet him in about 30 minutes.

I met Bob on the beach and he explained the details, like being ambidextrous and writing with his right hand but throwing with his left hand. He also showed me the small area he was standing at the top of the slope and about where his son was at the bottom of the slope. I told him I’d be back around 6 to work the outgoing tide.

When I returned that evening, I started an east/west (shore to thigh deep) grid search, concentrating on the bottom of the slope. I covered the entire area plus extending the search area on each ends. This was the cleanest beach I’d worked in a while, 1 bottle cap, no coins or pull tabs, and a full tooth gold plated silver grill, but no ring. By that time, it had gotten dark and I didn’t bring my head lamp because I didn’t think I’d need it. So, I started about shin deep and worked a north/south grid working towards the low tide line. I was right at the bottom of the slope and got a little chirp. As I dug sand out the hole the signal got more pronounced and louder. After 4 or 5 big scoops of sand, I finally had the target out of the hole and dumped it on the beach. I had to feel around in the sand and ended up putting my thumb through the ring hole. I then had to walk up to use the flashlight on my phone to see if I had Bob’s ring. I took 3 pictures of it from different angles and sent him a text saying, “What do you think????” I gave him a minute or two and called him. He answered on the first ring in amazement his ring had been found. He and his family were out taking in some sights and said he could be there in about 30 minutes. I told him no hurry and I’d wait right there until he arrived. When they arrived and I handed him his ring, he was so happy and grateful to get it back. These reactions make it all worthwhile.

Take Wife’s Lead Or Have Your Wedding Band Returned By A Ring Finder!

I was at home after making an engagement ring return when Tyler called with a request to find his wedding band. Nothing special, except for the sentimental attachment, and the time of day and that the tide was rising and his ring would be under water. I suggested I search the next day during the low tide swing. All was set and I sat down for an evening meal.

Then about 9PM the urge to go and find the ring overcame me. It would be dark, but a flashlight would take care of that. At the beach I was greeted by a mass of people enjoying a bond fire. I’ll tell you the wood pallets burn hot and bright. I would have no problem seeing the drag marks I would make while doing a grid search pattern. When the fire burned down, the owner of an off-the-road vehicle turned on his blinding lamps mounted on the vehicle’s roof. The beams illuminated the beach for at least a half a mile, including the area I was searching.

The fire was about burned out and everyone was on their way home. When the spot lights were turned off and the vehicle left the parking lot. I knew it was time for me to head out myself. What was that? Why it was a signal from my detector’s earphones. What the heck, I had not dug a signal all night I might as well dig this one. Low and behold, a wedding band was laying on the overturned sand. I had found the ring in an area of less than a square foot from the massive area I had been searching. I picked the ring up, brushed the sand off and put it safely into my pocket. I continued swinging my detector and heard another signal. I had to dig this signal also. It was a coin I had never found before a 100 Colones. Neat, and into my presently empty pouch.

Back at my car I texted Tyler and drove off to home and bed for some needed sleep. It was not until later in the morning that Tyler texted for a picture to ensure it was his ring. It was confirmed and he was off to a wonderful ferry ride and a vacation day on Martha’s Vineyard and an apple fritter from the Back Door Donut Shop.

The day was winding down and arrangements were made so Tyler could pick up his ring when he was on dry land.

It was a great pleasure to meet the couple and return Tyler’s ring.

PS: Lorraine had left her rings at home to avoid any possibility of needing a Ring Finder’s expertise.
I sure hope that her actions spread, especially to those that might otherwise need help in finding a lost item.

Wedding is Still On, Engagement Ring Found and Returned – Yarmouth, MA

Victoria was enjoying the warm sand and gentle sea breeze at Parker’s River Beach in South Yarmouth about 1PM when she took her engagement ring off and put it into her beach bag for safe keeping. At home a frantic search for the ring took place with no ring to be found. Conclusion: It must be on the beach as it was not at home, in the car or any other place that was searched.

Back at the beach Victoria’s brother called me and asked for help in locating the ring. Sure, and I was on my 4 mile trip to the beach and quickly started searching. Just a few minutes later I walked to Victoria as to ask her a question, not in a way that anyone would think that I had found the ring and it was in my scoop. I asked Victoria a simple question, did she see anything in the scoop. She saw the ring, reached into the scoop, took the ring from my scoop and tried to make an announcement that the ring had been found. It took a bit to vocalize that the ring had been found. But I knew that most everyone had the suspicion that the ring had been returned by Victoria’s physical response of a huge hug I had been given not a verbal announcement. Everyone on the beach then knew the news and filled the air with congratulatory remarks.

Nephew Colin got into the picture while holding the ring on his shoulder. The a photo of a very happy time on Cape Cod and plans for the wedding next year is of Robert and Victoria. As always a few stories of other returns, handing out of my information card and I was on my way home. Everything had been accomplished within a half an hour and I was super-satisfied that I had made another couple very happy and ready to enjoy more wonderful days on “Vacation Land” and on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod.

Ring Recovered In Norfolk VA Found With Metal Detector!

I got a call from Michael up in New Jersey. He lost his gold wedding band last Friday at a local beach and just realized today that there are ring finding services out there! He put a circle on a map to give me an idea where it was lost. I knew my daylight time was limited. I started gridding the area off. The first grid did not produce so I started a second grid a little further away and BAM! We gave him a facetime call to let him know! I got it back to him!
