In late July, Melissa headed down to Union Bluff Hotel & Meeting House in York Beach, Maine to celebrate a beautiful wedding. The ceremony was perfect, the reception was a blast, and everyone was in high spirits!

What is a trip to the southern Maine coast without some fresh seafood? After the reception, Melissa and a few close friends weren’t ready for the night to end. They decided to keep the good times rolling and track down some iconic Maine food.
They Southern Maine Lobster Company on U.S. 1 in York, Maine, ready to order up some legendary lobster rolls.

๐Ÿš— ๐“๐ก๐ž “๐’๐š๐Ÿ๐ž ๐Š๐ž๐ž๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ ” ๐‚๐ก๐จ๐ข๐œ๐ž
While waiting for their food, the group grabbed a spot at an outdoor picnic table. Knowing how messy (and gloriously buttery) a fresh Maine lobster roll can be, Melissa made a quick decision to protect her jewelry.
She took off her 4 rings and carefully placed them inside her vehicle’s cupholder. No one wants melted butter and lobster stuck in the nooks and crannies of their favorite rings, right? It seemed like the perfect safe haven.

After finishing their delicious food and sharing plenty of laughs, it was time to wrap up the weekend. The friends all said their goodbyes, hopped into their cars, and went their separate ways.
Melissa jumped into her vehicle and started the drive home to Freeport Maine completely unaware of the twist that was coming next…

When Melissa finally pulled up to FreeportME, she ran into an unexpected roadblock. Her long, shared driveway was completely blocked by her neighborโ€™s heavy construction equipment!
Standing by the side of the driveway was her friend and neighborโ€”the construction company owner’s wifeโ€”who was busy directing the massive machinery.

Knowing she’d have to wait a bit to park, Melissa scooped up her 4 rings from the cupholder, grabbed a few other belongings, and got out of the car. Her plan was simple: walk the 75 to 100 feet to her front door, drop off her things, and wait for the driveway to clear.
On her way to the door, she stopped to chat with her neighbor. As they stood there catching up for about 15 to 20 minutes, the heavy equipment kept shifting. Melissa and her friend had to move out of the way several different times to avoid the machinery as it maneuvered around the property.

Once the heavy equipment was finally cleared out of the path, Melissa went inside, set her belongings down, and headed back out to properly park her vehicle next to the house.
With her car safely parked and the long day wrapping up, she went back inside to finally slide her jewelry back on.
She reached for her rings.
One… two… three…
Wait. ๐Ÿ›‘
There were only three rings. Her stunning gold ring lined with diamonds was completely gone! This wasn’t just any ring, either. It was a beautiful piece Melissa had treated herself to a few years earlier simply because she fell in love with it. A true symbol of self-love and hard work.
And now, it had vanished. ๐Ÿ’”

Panic immediately set in. Melissa rushed back outside into the darkness. She carefully searched her small stone driveway, pacing back and forth over the exact spots where she had parked, walked, and stood talking to her neighbor.
Nothing. ๐Ÿ”ฆ
She tore apart her vehicle, checking every crack and crevice around the cupholder. She searched inside her home, retracing every single step. Still, nothing.
Desperate for answers, Melissa called Southern Maine Lobster CO. LLC down in York to see if anyone had turned it in by the picnic tables. No luck.

Melissa was facing a massive geographic puzzle. The precious gold and diamond ring could be anywhere between a seafood spot in York, Maine, and a stone driveway in Freeport, Maine.
But Melissa knew the timeline. The ring had to be in one of those two locations. Realizing she needed specialized help to solve this mystery, she picked up the phone and called me at The Ring Finders of Maine. ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ
We talked through the details and immediately locked in an appointment to search her yard in two days, on her next day off from work.

A few days later, I arrived at Melissa’s home in Freeport. She met me outside and walked me through the entire property, retracing her steps from that chaotic afternoon.
Searching for a gold ring in a small stone driveway is no easy taskโ€”those rocks love to swallow jewelry and hide it perfectly from plain sight. I told Melissa the plan of attack: a tight, methodical grid search covering the entire stone driveway from the exact spot she parked all the way to her doorstep.
I also made sure to map out the specific zones where she and her friend had stood dodging that heavy construction equipment. If that ring slipped out while she was moving around the machinery, my detector would find it.
With the gear turned on and headphones adjusted, it was time to swing the coil. Let’s get to it! โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ”Ž
๐Ÿงญ Criss-Crossing the Stones
I started the tight grid search, swinging the detector back and forth, back and forth across the stone driveway. At first, it was just the usual suspects: an occasional screw here, a stray piece of foil there, but no ring.
Once the area where Melissa originally parked was completely cleared, I expanded my search grid. I moved into the zone where she and her neighbor had stood talking and dodging the machinery. Still nothing.
By the time I hit the halfway point of the driveway, I was hunting hard.

Suddenly, a very low tone broke through my headphones. I looked down at my Minelab Manticore screen. It was registering a Target ID (TID) of 07.
In the metal detecting world, a 07 TID is incredibly small. Nine times out of ten, itโ€™s just a tiny piece of trash or foil. But you never ignore a signal when a ring is on the line.
I looked down at the rocks directly beneath my coil. Visually, there was absolutely nothing to see. I grabbed my handheld pinpointer and bent down to narrow the target area.

As I leaned closer to the ground, my eyes caught something. A flash of unmistakable yellow gold. A hint of perfect roundness.
There it was! Wedged right between two driveway stones, perfectly camouflaged.
I called Melissa over and told her the ring was sitting right in front of us. She stared down at the ground but couldn’t see itโ€”this ring was a total chameleon, blending into the rocks like it was meant to be there.
I pointed my finger right at it. The second her eyes locked onto the gold and diamonds, she broke out into a massive smile!

Melissa was in total disbelief. She and her neighbors had searched that exact stretch of stones multiple times by hand and never saw a thing. That is the power of a professional detector and the patience to dig the low numbers!
She thanked me repeatedly, thrilled to have her self-made keepsake back on her finger where it belongs. Seeing that relief on her face reminded me all over again why Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Kennebunkport, Maine

With Point Sebago now in our rearview mirror, Cheryl and I were heading to Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. I was on the phone with Brody, who explained the situation. He, his wife, and their young child had been enjoying a beautiful day at GRB. Before heading into the water for a swim, Brody took off his gold wedding ring and placed it safely inside the cupholder of his beach chair.

Once he finished swimming, the family spent several more hours relaxing on the shore before finally packing up their gear. They loaded everything into their vehicle and began the drive back home to the Boston area, preparing for work the next morning.

Then came that all-too-familiar moment of panic. ๐Ÿ›‘ Brody remembered his wedding ring. He checked the chair, but the cupholder was completely empty. He rushed back to the beach to search his old setup spot, but as we all know, once under the sand, these rings are very difficult to find.

Brody then gave me the exact location on GRB and told me the ring should be somewhere between the seaweed from the high tide mark and the kayaks, closer to the dune grass. This gave me a solid, specific search window to target.

The late afternoon sun was casting long shadows across Goose Rocks Beach by the time Cheryl and I arrived. Because Brodyโ€™s setup had been high up on the dry sand, we didn’t have to worry about incoming tides or shifting water, but the soft, powdery sand of GRB can swallow a gold ring instantly.

I decided to start the grid search near the seaweed and grid search horizontally to the water. I would search north to south and work my way towards the kayaks. There were not many targets at all, that high up on the beach

The area wasn’t large and after 10 minutes or so, I heard the low tone I had been hoping for and anticipating! ๐ŸŽง

As I kept swinging the coil over the area, trying to pinpoint the exact spot under the M15 coil, I could see the outline of a gold ring in the sand. I told Cheryl, “I can see the ring, in the sand,” to which she replied from 10โ€“15 feet away, “I can see it from here!” ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I removed the ring from the sand and verified it was actually Brody’s gold wedding ring. I immediately recorded a video for Brody, telling him I was leaving the beach because I found the ring, panning the camera down to reveal his beautiful gold band. ๐Ÿ“ฑโœจ

I sent the video to Brody, who called me back instantly, expressing his immense gratitude. Since he and his family had already left the area, we made plans to return the ring the following weekend. He would make the 1.5-hour drive right back to Kennebunkport Maine to get his ring back.
The next weekend, I drove down to GRB and met Brody for the very first time. I returned his wedding ring with those exact same kayaks in the background! Brody and his wife thanked me immensely, and as we shook hands to say goodbye, all I could think of was: ๐‘ฐ ๐’‰๐’‚๐’—๐’† ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’”๐’• ๐’‹๐’๐’ƒ ๐’Š๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’˜๐’๐’“๐’๐’…. ๐‘ฐ ๐’๐’๐’—๐’† ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’‹๐’๐’ƒ. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

I just received a text from Claudia asking, “Hey! I heard about you for a ring lost on the OOB Beach.” I texted right back letting her know that yes, I find rings on the beach, and asked if she had just lost one.

Claudia explained that she had taken her beautiful sterling silver ringโ€”a precious Valentine’s Day gift from her partnerโ€”off and placed it safely on her beach towel before heading into the ocean for a swim with her daughter. Once they came out of the water, her daughter grabbed the towel to dry off… and you know the rest of the story. The silver ring disappeared instantly into the sand! โšก

Claudia and her group of family and friendsโ€”visiting all the way on vacation from Canada, Quรฉbec.โ€”started a quick search. However, they quickly and smartly called the search off. They were afraid of accidentally kicking the ring out of the area or pushing it deeper into the sand out of reach of my metal detector. Truly a smart move! ๐Ÿ‘

I told Claudia I could be at her location in @lOld Orchard Beach in 15 minutes if I could find parking. Cheryl and I loaded up the metal detecting gear and headed straight to OOB. After driving around for 5 minutes looking for a spot, we finally parked about 1/3 of a mile away and walked over to Claudia’s location.

Once we arrived, we saw that Claudia and her group had completely cleared the area and placed their beach chairs in a perfect semi-circle to keep the loss zone clear and identifiable. Another great move! I really like these people. ๐Ÿ‘

I took exactly two steps and heard the unmistakable tone I was hoping to hear.
Are you serious?! ๐Ÿ“ธ
Just two steps and literally 5 seconds into the search, I believed I had already found it. I put the detector down, reached my hand into the sand, felt around, and pulled Claudia’s sterling silver ring, sparkling with stones, right out of the sand! ๐Ÿ’โœจ
(Be sure to watch the video below to see the exact moment it happened!)

This was easily one of the fastest recoveries I have ever had. It happened that fast because Claudia and her group had the foresight not to disturb the area, and instead chose to isolate it perfectly by marking it with their beach chairs.
Claudia and her group were all smiles! I cannot stress enough how much Claudia and her crew really helped themselves and me by doing everything exactly right:
* Time is of the essence: Claudia messaged me within minutes of losing her ring.
* Stop searching: They stopped before disturbing the area.
* Isolate the zone: They marked the spot perfectly while keeping others out. ๐Ÿ›‘๐ŸŒพ

After the smiles, hugs, and handshakes were over, Cheryl and I grabbed our gear and headed back to our vehicle a third of a mile away.
But the day wasn’t over yet!
As soon as we got into the vehicle, the phone rang. Another lost ring phone call! We threw it in drive and headed straight to Point Sebago on Sebago Lake Maine in Casco, Maine. Little did we know, as we left Old Orchard Beach, our ring-finding adventures for the day were just beginning… ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

Sterling Silver Wedding Ring Lost In The Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, At Goochโ€™s Beach, Kennebunk, Maine

The call to action can arrive at any moment, and on Tuesday, July 21st, late in the morning, a text message popped up on my phone from a client named Kate. The message read: “Hello, I lost a ring this morning on Goochโ€™s beach. Would you be able to look for it? I believe it is in front of this house in the sand.” Along with the message was a photo of a beach house with its address right there on the Kennebunk coast. ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿก

I immediately called Kate back to get the crucial details. She explained that she had been out enjoying the morning surf. Before hitting the waves, she took off her precious Sterling Silver Wedding Ring and tucked it safely inside her shirt pocket. Once she was finished surfing, she gathered up her beach gear, packed up, and headed homeโ€”completely forgetting the ring was still loose in her pocket. It wasn’t until she arrived home that reality hit, and she realized the ring was gone.

I told Kate I would absolutely go search for it, but when it comes to shifting beach sand, a little bit of strategy goes a long way. To pinpoint the location as accurately as possible, I pulled up a Google Earth aerial view of the house and the beach area directly in front of it. ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿฆ…

Using the image, I drew two specific boxes directly in the sand:
* ๐ŸŸฅ A Red Square positioned closer to the high tide line.
A Black Square positioned up higher, near the seawall.

I sent the marked-up photo back to Kate and asked which color zone matched where she had been sitting. Kate replied: “Red. I am fairly sure it is in the sand but there is a chance it could be on the sidewalk.” ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

With a clear target area locked in, I told Kate that Cheryl and I were on our way. We immediately loaded up the metal detecting gear and hit the road, heading straight for Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, just across the river from Kennebunkport.

Once Cheryl and I arrived at Gooch’s Beach, we didn’t take any chances. We started with a thorough visual search up and down the sidewalk and the street area, just in case it had dropped on the pavement. No luck. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ

Next, it was time to hit the sand. I stepped down onto the beach and established my search boundaries, working from a flagpole just south of the distinctive yellow beach house over to some surfboards sitting on the beach just to the north. I snapped a few photos of the setup and messaged them to Kate to confirm. She looked at the pictures and told me the ring should be parallel to those surfboards, lying somewhere in the sand.

Knowing the layout, I estimated I could sweep the entire designated area in about 15 minutes. I fired up the metal detector and equipped my largest coil, the M15, to cover the ground as quickly and efficiently as possible. I locked into a tight, systematic grid search across the “red square” zone. I covered every single inch of itโ€”but the detector remained completely silent. No ring.

Even though it was technically outside of Kate’s suspected drop zone, I decided to extend my search right up to the massive seawall. Now, in the metal detecting world, there is a funny truth: a detectoristโ€™s biggest enemy is actually metal! When you are searching for non-ferrous targets like silver or gold, an extremely large ferrous metal object can completely mask out the smaller target, making it completely invisible to the machine unless you proceed with extreme caution. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธโšก

Because this seawall is constructed entirely of metal, I knew my massive M15 coil wouldn’t be able to get very close without overloading. I gave it a shot anyway, creeping as close to the barrier as the large coil would allow. Ten minutes later, I still had absolutely nothing.

I decided it was time to call Kate back to narrow down her exact path. I asked her: “Which set of stairs did you use to exit the beach? The ones to the south or the north of the yellow house?” I figured I would just grid search her footprints right up the steps.
I was literally STUNNED by her reply.

Kate calmly told me she hadn’t used any stairs at all. Instead, she had pulled herself up and vaulted straight over the seawall directly in front of the yellow house! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ๐Ÿคฏ

That seawall stands between 4.5 to 5 feet tall! I chuckled and told Kate, “Well, it must be nice to be young and agile! There is absolutely no way I would have even attempted that jump!”

That one piece of new information changed absolutely everything. I realized the ring didn’t drop while she was walking to an exitโ€”it likely launched out of her shirt pocket the exact second she leaped over that wall.

I had already searched near the wall with my large M15 coil, but I knew I could get significantly closer to that heavy metal barrier if I switched to my smallest setup. I had Cheryl run back to the vehicle to grab my small M8 elliptical coil. We swapped them out on the fly. To navigate the electrical interference from the wall, I would need to use a very short, highly disciplined, and deliberate swing. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ”
I restarted the search right at the base of the wall, keeping my swings under tight control. Within just five minutes, the machine let out a beautiful, unmistakably loud high toneโ€”exactly what I had been praying to hear! ๐Ÿ”Šโœจ
The target was resting a mere foot and a half to two feet away from the massive metal wall. I pulled out my pinpointer, locked onto the exact signal location, and used my fingers to carefully brush away the loose sand.
Magically, a gleaming Sterling Silver Wedding Ring appeared out of the grains! UNREAL! I had found it! ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŽ‰

Cheryl and I were absolutely ecstatic, and we immediately caught the whole recovery on video from above to send to Kate. When her phone rang with the clip, she called us back instantly, completely over the moon with joy! It all made sense nowโ€”when Kate cleared that 5-foot wall in a single bound, the momentum sent the ring flying right out of her shirt pocket. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ
As luck would have it, Kate lives in Saco, the exact same town Cheryl and I call home. We made quick arrangements to meet up and safely return the family heirloom as soon as we got back into town. ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿ“

As I walked off Gooch’s Beachโ€”using the actual stairs and definitely not trying to play Superman like Kateโ€”I was smiling from ear to ear. If I hadn’t asked that one crucial question about the stairs, or if I hadn’t brought my full arsenal of specialized coils, that ring might still be buried out there today. The stars were definitely aligned! ๐ŸŒŒโœจ

We met up with Kate back in Saco, and seeing her face light up with excitement as her wedding ring went back where it belonged was the perfect end to the day. As hugs and smiles were exchanged, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself thinking, “How on earth did she jump over that wall?”
I truly have the absolute best job in the world. I love my job! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฆ…

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made ofโ€”until it was time to pack up. ๐Ÿ–๏ธโ˜€๏ธ
As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him!
If you follow my page, you already know the golden rule: once a ring meets beach sand, it performs an almost impossible vanishing act. It settles instantly, blending perfectly into its new surroundings. ๐Ÿœ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€
The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.
Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: โ€œYou need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to the Kennebunkport Police for the incredibly kind words and the referral! We truly appreciate our local law enforcement looking out for beachgoers and pointing them in our direction. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿฆ…

Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?
Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25โ€“30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ
๐Ÿ–๏ธ ๐†๐‘๐Ž๐”๐๐ƒ ๐™๐„๐‘๐Ž ๐€๐๐ƒ ๐“๐‡๐„ “๐“๐„๐’๐“ ๐‘๐”๐”
When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.
Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!
When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site. ๐Ÿ”Š
Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I mapped out the strategy and told the couple I would perform a meticulous grid search, moving north to south, parallel to the shoreline.
I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.
BANG! ๐Ÿ’ฅ
The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds? ๐Ÿคฏ
I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandonโ€™s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ™Œ
Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy. ๐Ÿ˜ญโค๏ธ
But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November! ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ถ
On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’‘

14K St Anthony Pendant Lost In The Atlantic Ocean Water, Found With A Metal Detector At Short Sands Beach, York, Maine

I received a call from Joanne. Her son, Rob, had been enjoying the day at Short Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine , when disaster struck. After getting out of the ocean, Rob looked down and realized his 14k gold St. Anthony pendant was no longer on his necklace. It was lost somewhere in the rolling surf. ๐Ÿ›‘

Joanne asked if I could help. I immediately checked the tide charts and saw that the tide was currently coming in. When she told me the pendant was lost around 1:00 PM, I knew that meant it went missing at mid-tide. ๐Ÿ•’
I explained to Joanne that our absolute best chance for a recovery would be to arrive at Short Sands at 7:00 PM. By then, the tide would be heading back out, hitting that exact same mid-tide level, allowing me to follow the water out as it receded. She told me Rob would meet us there. ๐Ÿค

When Cheryl and I arrived at 7:00 PM, Rob was waiting. He brought us right down to the beach and pointed out the exact area where he had been swimming when he first noticed the pendant was gone.
I mapped out my strategy and told Rob I would grid search parallel to the shore, expanding the search area by an extra 25 feet to both the north and the south to guarantee we covered every square inch of the zone. ๐Ÿ“ Duty called for Rob, and he had to leave the beach shortly after to head back to Boston for work the next morning. ๐Ÿš™
Cheryl and I pushed on. I grid searched the area for more than two hours, finally calling it a night after 9:00 PM as darkness completely took over. ๐ŸŒ™ I had covered the entire designated area, but the ocean only gave up coins and the usual pull tabs and small pieces of aluminum. No gold. ๐Ÿช™

On the drive back home to Saco, Maine, I called Rob to give him the update. I told him the pendant simply wasn’t in that specific grid. I asked him if he had actually felt or seen the pendant slip off his neck, and he said no. Then I asked a crucial question:
“Had you been swimming earlier in the day?” ๐Ÿค”
“Yes,” he replied. “Three or four other times.”
Right then, a lightbulb went off. It all made perfect sense! The St. Anthony pendant hadn’t come off during his 1:00 PM swimโ€”it had likely slipped off during one of his earlier swims, and he just hadn’t noticed it was missing until later in the day. ๐Ÿ’ก
๐ŸŒ…
Knowing he had most likely lost the pendant earlier in the day, my mind immediately went back to the tide charts. I saw that the morning low tide was set for 10:39 AM. My new plan was to get back to Short Sands Beach by 7:00 AM, matching the receding water and following it all the way down until low tide three and a half hours later. I was highly optimistic that the earlier swimming area would finally be exposed. ๐ŸŒŠ
After a restless night with maybe three hours of sleepโ€”because my mind just wouldn’t stop racing over that missing goldโ€”I pulled back up to Short Sands Beach. ๐Ÿฅฑ
I wasted no time getting to work, picking up the grid search from north to south, moving parallel to the shoreline once again. For the first hour and a half, the beach was stubborn. I was only digging up the usual suspects: coins and pull-tabs. By 8:30 AM, with two hours left until low tide, I knew I just had to keep grinding. ๐Ÿฆพ

Just ten minutes later, everything changed. ๐Ÿ’ฅ
My detector screamed with a LOUD, LOW TONE, locking in at a solid 35 on my Target Identification Screen (TID)! ๐ŸŽถ It sounded absolutely beautiful, and my adrenaline instantly spiked. ๐Ÿ“ˆ
I scooped up a heavy load of sand, flipped it onto the wet, hard-packed surface, and pulled out my pinpointer. As I located the target and began brushing away the top layer of sand, there it wasโ€”a bright, unmistakable glint of SHINY GOLD! โœจ๐Ÿ‘‘
I pulled it out, and holding it in my hand was Robโ€™s St. Anthony pendant! My theory had been spot on. After two separate days and four and a half total hours of searching, the puzzle was solved. The pendant was resting about 40 to 50 feet further out toward the water than where Rob originally thought he lost it, proving he had dropped it during one of those earlier swims. ๐Ÿงญ

I immediately captured a video of the recovery and sent it to Rob and Joanne. Within minutes, both of their phones were ringing off the hookโ€”they were absolutely ecstatic! ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰
Since Rob was already back at work in Boston and Joanne was also down in Massachusetts, Rob asked if I could hand the precious heirloom over to his girlfriendโ€™s brother, Jay, who was still vacationing in York with his family. I told him, “Absolutely!” ๐Ÿค
Meeting up with Jay and handing over the pendant felt incredible. Job done. But the real icing on the cake came a short time later when I received a text from Rob that truly says it all: โค๏ธ

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, in Old Orchard Beach, Maine

It was Thursday, July 16th, and it started out as a picture-perfect Maine summer day.
Ron and his wife, Deb, were loving every second of their vacation, relaxing outside the Sea Watch Condominiums right here in Old Orchard Beach. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
The ocean view was beautiful, the sun was shining, and the beach was packed with people soaking up the warmth.
After a while, Ron decided to head into the surf for a refreshing swim . ๐ŸŠ
Before walking down to the water, he did what many people doโ€”he slipped off his precious wedding ring and placed it safely inside the cup holder of his beach chair. ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฅค
After his swim, Ron rejoined Deb at their chairs. The couple lay back, completely relaxed, without a single care in the world.
But Mother Nature had other plans for mid-afternoon. ๐Ÿ˜ณ
Out of absolutely nowhere, a massive, severe cold front slammed into the coast. A line of violent thunderstorms swept through the area with terrifying speed. Suddenly, peaceful relaxation turned into pure survival mode!
Local wind gusts right on Old Orchard Beach clocked in at an incredible 43 mph, whipping the ocean into a choppy, dangerous surf.
* ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ ๐ž: The storm was tearing across the state, bringing 44 mph winds to Sanford and up to 60 mph gusts up north in Bangor, leaving tens of thousands of Mainers entirely without power! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”Œ
Down on OOB, the wind hit like a freight train. Everyone on the beach was literally being sandblasted by the flying grit. It was blinding, painful, and complete chaos. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Panicking as the storm raged around them, Ron and Deb grabbed what they could and fled the beach, running as fast as they could to find cover from the wind and pelting rain.๐ŸŒง๏ธ
But in the frantic rush to escape being sandblasted… Ronโ€™s wedding ring was completely forgotten, sitting right there in the cup holder of his beach chair. ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿ’”
Once they safely made it back inside their room at The SeaWatch Beachfront Condominiums, the adrenaline began to fade, and a sinking feeling set in. Ron reached for his finger, looked around, and realized with a jolt that his ring was missing!
They frantically tore through everything they had carried inside. They checked and re-checked the beach chairs, shook out the towels, and emptied the beach bags. All to no avail.
As soon as the severe weather finally passed the area, Ron and Deb hurried back down to the beach, eyes glued to the ground. But the storm had done its work. The heavy wind and flying sand had completely reshaped the beach, and the ring had vanished without a trace. ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
Seeing their distress, several kind members of The SeaWatch Association stepped in to help. They gave Deb my contact information and told her to give me a call. ๐Ÿ“ž
When Deb reached out, she asked if I might be able to head down to search for her husband’s ring over the next day or so, whenever I could find the time. I stopped her right there. I explained that when it comes to a lost ring on a shifting shoreline, time is of the essence!
Waiting a day or two simply wasn’t an option. Old Orchard is a highly popular public beach where a stray glint of gold can easily catch someone else’s eye.
Even worse, the OOB beach cleaning rake machines are a HUGE concern, capable of scooping up and burying a ring deep in the debris.
On top of that, there is always the chance of another metal detectorist scanning the area before I could get there. ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ
I told Deb that Cheryl and I would load up the gear and be down there in 15 to 20 minutes! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ
When we arrived on site, Ron and Deb met us to point out the area where they had been sitting when the cold front blew through.
However, memory can be a bit tricky after a wild storm, and there was a little confusion as to the exact location.
Ron was convinced they had been parked towards the northern end of the building, while Deb was absolutely certain it was more towards the center of the structure. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
Now, Iโ€™ve done enough of these recoveries to know you never argue with a wifeโ€™s intuition!
I chose to start my precise grid search in the exact area Deb pointed out. I reassured the couple that if it didn’t turn up there, I would move over to search Ron’s suspected area next. If that still didn’t work, I was prepared to grid the entire escape route they took from the beach all the way to the access path. ๐Ÿ”
I turned on my detector and began sweeping the sand in Deb’s zone. I didn’t have to walk very far before my machine locked onto a very strong, beautiful signal! ๐ŸŽฏ
With Deb standing anxiously right beside me, I pulled out my pinpointer to narrow down the target. As I carefully moved the top layer of sand aside, a HUGE gold ring glinted in the sunlight! โœจ๐Ÿ’
Deb instantly gasped, “๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’•’๐’” ๐’Š๐’•!” ๐ŸŽ‰
Ron, looking over from a few yards away, blinked and said, “๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’•’๐’” ๐’˜๐’‰๐’‚๐’•?” ๐Ÿคจ
Deb shouted back with a huge smile, “๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’•’๐’” ๐’š๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ!” ๐Ÿ˜‚
Ron stood there in total disbelief, scratching his head. “๐‘ฐ ๐’•๐’‰๐’๐’–๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’• ๐’Š๐’• ๐’˜๐’‚๐’” ๐’๐’—๐’†๐’“ ๐’‰๐’†๐’“๐’†!”
Chalk up another massive win for wife’s intuition! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ
Ron walked on over, and it was an incredible feeling to place that heavy gold band right back into his hand. Deb immediately threw her arms around me, giving me a big, grateful hug and thanking me for saving the day. Ron followed right up with a hearty, unforgettable handshake and his own deep thanks. ๐Ÿคโค๏ธ
As Cheryl and I packed up and walked off the beach, the happy couple thanked us one last time. They were already heading back to find those wonderful SeaWatch Association Members to give them a massive thank you for the life-saving referral!
Moments like this remind us why “๐‘พ๐’† ๐’‰๐’‚๐’—๐’† ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’”๐’• ๐’‹๐’๐’ƒ ๐’Š๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’˜๐’๐’“๐’๐’…. ๐‘พ๐’† ๐’๐’๐’—๐’† ๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐’‹๐’๐’ƒ!” Another piece of precious history saved, and another stormy day turned into smiles! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒŸ

Gold Stud Earring Lost In The Grass, Found With A Metal Detector, In Scarborough, Maine

On July 15th, I got a heartbreaking call from Emily, a local real estate agent. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ
The night before, she was playing volleyball at Memorial Park in Scarborough, Maine. ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ“ Side note: This park is so nostalgic for meโ€”itโ€™s the site of the old Portland Twin Drive-In Theatre! ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ

During a big play at the net, Emily jumped high and brushed against the mesh. ๐Ÿฅ…

In a split second, her custom earring slipped out and vanished into the thick grass. ๐ŸŒฟ

Emily and her friends searched on their hands and knees but found absolutely nothing. ๐ŸŒพ

This wasnโ€™t just any jewelry. Emily used to be a professional jeweler. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

She had designed and handcrafted this specific gold earring herself. ๐ŸŽจ

She left the park completely devastated. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Most people think metal detectors find jewelry instantly. ๐Ÿช™

But tiny stud earrings are the ultimate test of skill and gear. ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ

They contain an incredibly minute amount of precious metal. ๐Ÿค

When they fall into thick grass, they rarely lay flat. ๐ŸŒฑ

Standard detecting programs look for round, dense targets like coins or thick wedding bands. ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ’

A vertical, microscopic gold post has an electromagnetic footprint that is almost non-existent. ๐Ÿ“‰

Standard factory programs will simply ignore it or filter it out as ground noise. ๐Ÿ”‡

To give us a fighting chance, I swapped to my agile 8″ coil. ๐Ÿ”„

I booted up the Minelab Manticore’s specialized “Gold Field” program. ๐Ÿ‘‘

This mode is engineered to sniff out tiny, low-conductive gold that other detectors miss.

Emily met me at the park at 1:30 PM, right after I got back from York. ๐Ÿš—

She had smartly marked the exact net post hole with a small tree branch. ๐ŸŒฟ

I started a tight, overlapping grid search on her side of the net. ๐Ÿฅ…

Nothing but faint iron mineralization from the soil. ๐Ÿงฑ

I crossed over to the opposing team’s side of the net and kept swinging. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

After 5 to 6 minutes of methodical scanning… BANG! โšก

A sharp, beautifully repeatable audio signal broke through my headphones. ๐ŸŽง

Having had two complete and total knee replacements, dropping down to the ground wasn’t happening. ๐Ÿฆฟ๐Ÿฆฟ

Instead, I carefully bent over and used my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the grass blades. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

As I slowly parted the turf with my fingers, there it wasโ€”gleaming bright yellow in the dirt! โœจ๐Ÿฅ‡

Emily spotted it at the exact same millisecond. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโญ

(If you haven’t seen her reaction yet, go watch the video Reel I posted last night!) ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ‘‡

She started jumping up and down with her hands in the air, celebrating wildly! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ƒ

๐Ÿ™Œ “WOW, thank you so much!” she shouted. ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐ŸŽ‰

Seeing that pure joy and relief is exactly why I do this.

Honestly, I have the best job in the world, and I love my job! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ผ

Welcome home, earring! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ’

Funny enough, volleyball courts have been my specialty this season!

This actually marks my third volleyball court recovery of the year. ๐ŸŽ‰

The first two were rings lost in the deep sand during intense beach volleyball games. ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ

But switching from soft beach sand to thick park grass is a whole different ballgameโ€”and it feels great to keep the streak alive! ๐Ÿ–๏ธโžก๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

At the end of the day, our motto is simple:

๐Ÿ‘‰ “๐ˆ๐Ÿ ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ, ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฎ๐ฌ.”๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Newlywedโ€™s Engagement Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Ocean Park, Maine Old Orchard Beach

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ’ FOUND AT THE BEACH! ๐ŸŒŠโœจ

Talk about a rollercoaster of a day for a couple of newlyweds!

On July 11th, Jen and her husband Ryanโ€”married for just one single monthโ€”were enjoying a beautiful Maine summer day on the beach in Ocean Park, Maine with 15 to 20 of their closest family and friends.

Suddenly, the unthinkable happened. Jen went to remove her engagement ring, and it ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ, vanishing deep into the sand somewhere in front of her. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The entire group jumped into action, searching the sand, but couldn’t find a trace of it. Thatโ€™s when someone in the crowd made the brilliant suggestion to call The Ring Finders of Maine! ๐Ÿ“ž

When the call came in, I was actually an hour away at Sebago Lake Maine , knee-deep in a water search for another lost wedding ring. I told the Ocean Park crew that Cheryl and I would head their way the second I finished.

Talk about luckโ€”just 5 minutes later, I recovered the ring at Sebago Lake!

I immediately called Jen’s group back to let them know we were on our way. I gave them two crucial pieces of advice:

When we arrived in Ocean Park an hour later, the whole group warmly greeted us. Jen showed me exactly where she was standing and the direction the ring flew.

And let me tell you, this group did a phenomenal jobโ€”they used childrenโ€™s beach toys to create a large circle around the entire hot zone! A truly brilliant move. ๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

I kicked off my grid search at the top of the toy circle, working my way down toward the ocean. I finished my first pass, turned around, and started heading back toward the shore.

About 3/4 of the way back…๐๐Ž๐Ž๐Œ! I got the exact tone I was hoping for on my metal detector. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I pulled out my pinpointer, cleared the sand, and pulled out Jen’s beautiful engagement ring!

The second the ring cleared the sand, the entire beach exploded into cheering and clapping! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘

The heavy tension in the air instantly evaporated, replaced by pure joy and relief.

Gold And Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Water Of Sebago Lake, Found With A Metal Detector, In Standish, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ’ SAVED FROM SEBAGO LAKE! ๐Ÿšจ

It was supposed to be the ultimate bachelor weekend getaway.
A group of lifelong friends. A stunning waterfront lake house in Standish, Maine. Perfect weather over beautiful Sebago Lake Maine. ๐ŸŒŠ

But what happened next turned a perfect weekend into a full-blown emergencyโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

โ˜€๏ธ THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED โ˜€๏ธ

Nick was out in the water enjoying Sebago Lakeโ€”tossing a football, swimming, and floating around with the guysโ€”when disaster struck.

His gold and platinum wedding ring suddenly slipped off his finger.

Before anyone could reactโ€ฆ it disappeared beneath the surface. Gone. Just like that. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The panic set in immediately.

Imagine having to make that phone call to your wife from a bachelor party weekendโ€ฆ YIKES!!! ๐Ÿ’

๐Ÿ’ฅ Determined not to give up, the bachelor crew jumped into action.

They swam, waded, and searched the area themselves. Smartly, they even placed two large stones on the lake bed to mark the exact drop zone.

But finding a ring in waist- to chest-deep water is nearly impossible by hand.

Despite their best effortsโ€ฆ the ring was still missing.

๐Ÿ“ž โ€œWE NEED HELPโ€ฆโ€ (THIS IS WHEN WE WERE CALLED) ๐Ÿ“ž

Realizing they were running out of time, Nick contacted The Ring Finders of Maine.

Cheryl and I immediately loaded up my fully waterproof metal detecting gear and headed to Standish, Maine and Sebago Lake, Maine.

When we arrived, the guys showed us the stone markers they had placedโ€”perfect reference points.

We geared up, entered the water, and began a careful grid search.

๐ŸŽ‰ 10 MINUTES LATERโ€ฆ THIS HAPPENED ๐ŸŽ‰

I swept the detector back across the marked area

Nothing.

I adjusted slightly and continued the grid pattern.

Still nothing.

Then I turned just a bit farther leftโ€ฆ and everything changed. ๐Ÿ‘€

A clean, unmistakable signal rang out through my headphones.

I scooped the sand, swirled it in the waterโ€ฆ and there it was.

๐Ÿ’ Nickโ€™s gold and platinum wedding ring.
