Sterling Silver Navajo Wedding Ring Lost in The Water Of Crystal Lake, Found With A Metal Detector In Gray, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

COINCIDENCE, MEANT TO BE, OR NAVAJO SPIRIT? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’โœจย

As Gary Hill and I were just finishing up with recovering Matt’s wedding ring from Tripp Lake in Poland, Maine, my phone rang.

The caller identified himself as Jack. He was visiting Maine on vacation all the way from Utah! ๐ŸŒฒโœˆ๏ธ

The previous day, Jack and his wife were enjoying a hot summer day floating around Crystal Lake in Gray, Maine, right in front of their rented lakeside house. Jack told me he had taken his wedding ring off and placed it safely in his pocket while floating around. He was worried that all the paddling around with his hands in the water would make it slip off.

But when he exited the lake, his worst nightmare came true: the wedding ring was no longer in his pocket. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

Jack told me he had been wearing that ring for over 20 years. He was absolutely heartbroken and desperately hoping we could help.

I asked Jack what metal the ring was made of. He told me it was sterling silver with turquoiseโ€”a traditional Navajo-style wedding ring. Wow! Very cool, and incredibly unique for us to find here in Maine! I learned that these traditional Navajo rings are deeply popular in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and the Southwest in general. ๐ŸŒตโ˜€๏ธ

I smiled and told Jack that he was in major luck. Gary and I were literally just 7 to 8 miles away at Tripp Lake, and we could be at his rental in less than 10 minutes! ๐Ÿš™๐Ÿ’จ

Thatโ€™s when the story took a wild turn. ๐Ÿคฏ

Jack told me he wasn’t even at the lake houseโ€”he was currently down in Portsmouth, New Hampshire visiting his sister! He had been venting to her about losing his precious ring, and his sister looked at him and said, “You need to call The Ring Finders of Maine right now.”

As it turns out, his sister had just read a newspaper article about us and all the success weโ€™ve been having! ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ™Œ

Think about the sheer luck of this: Jack is from Utah and had never heard of us. He loses a rare Southwestern ring in a Maine lake. He goes to New Hampshire to tell his sister, who just happens to have read an article about our recoveries. He calls us, and we are practically right down the street wrapping up another successful rescue!

Jack immediately called his wife at the lake house to let her know we were on the way. Gary and I threw our gear into The Ring Finder Mobile and took off. โšก๏ธ

THE SEARCH BEGINS… ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”

True to our word, Gary and I arrived just 10 minutes later at the lake house in Gray. We were met by Jack’s wife, Karen. She took us down to the water, where she and her friend were sitting and enjoying the afternoon, looking out over beautiful Crystal Lake.

Karen showed us the search area, and Gary and I had to smile. We had just left a massive 15,000โ€“18,000 square foot search area at Tripp Lake, and now we were looking at a tiny 30′ x 50′ zoneโ€”only about 1,500 square feet! ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ™Œ

Karen explained that they were literally just floating around right in front of the house and hadn’t gone much past the dock. ๐Ÿชต

Alright then, letโ€™s get our gear and find this very sentimental Navajo wedding ring! ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

We mapped out our battle plan: Gary’s Mission: Start grid-searching the shallow shore water and systematically work his way out deeper into the lake.

My Mission: Walk out as deep as I could safely search, then grid my way back in toward the shore and Gary. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

With two detectors swinging and a perfect pincer movement, we were determined to find it.

With Gary starting at the shoreline near the dock, I headed out to the deeper water in front of it. We worked in perfect unison, heading north and then turning to head south.

As I got just past the dock, I was reaching my absolute depth limit. With every step, I was sinking down about six inches into the heavy muck. I wouldn’t be able to go much furtherโ€”safely, anyways. One or two more steps out into the dark, murky water, and that would have been it. ๐ŸŒŠ

At that exact point, my detector screamed. My very first signal. ๐Ÿ”Š

I scooped up a heavy load of muck and decaying vegetation, lifting it up to throw into my floating sifter. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Right there in the middle of the muck, I saw just a sliver of silver and blue.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Not even three minutes into the hunt, on my absolute first target, I found Jack’s Navajo wedding ring! I yelled up to Karen on the shore, asking if the stones were blue turquoise. She yelled back, “YES!”

MEANT TO BE! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’™

Once I got up on shore, Karen and her friend were in absolute shock. They couldn’t believe we found it, and they definitely couldn’t believe we found it so fast! ๐Ÿคฏ

Gary and I left a very happy, appreciative, smiling Karenโ€”but not before we got our celebratory hugs! ๐Ÿค—โœจ

Unfortunately, I never was able to meet Jack in person, but I called him up right there from the shoreline to deliver the good news. He was completely speechless and in absolute shock! He thanked me from the bottom of his heart for saving a piece of history he thought was gone forever. ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ

Well, a little luck goes a long way, and everything about this search came together perfectly:

Jack’s sister just happening to read that newspaper article about our success.

Gary and I being a mere 10 minutes away.

Going from a massive search area to a tight 1,500 square foot spot.

And the biggest miracle of all: the ring was right at my depth limit. If it had been just one or two steps further out, I wouldn’t have been able to safely reach it! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿšซ

A NAVAJO BLESSING IN MAINE? ๐Ÿฆ…โœจ

As I held that beautiful ring, I couldn’t help but wonder. This ring spent over 20 years on Jackโ€™s finger, crafted in a tradition steeped in deep connection, intention, and meaning. Turquoise is known as a stone of protection and a bringer of good fortune.

To have it slip away in a dark Maine lake, only for a chain of unexplainable events to bring us right to it in under three minutes… you have to wonder if a higher energy was at work. It felt less like simple luck and more like a protective blessing guiding my scoop right to the exact spot.

WHAT A DAY! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ

As Gary and I were driving home to Saco, Maine, we rehashed the wild timeline of our day.

We had left Saco at 5:45 AM and headed straight to Footbridge Beach , in Ogunquit, Maine: Beautiful Place by the Sea for an unsuccessful search (at least for that dayโ€”more on that story in the future!). From there, we headed to Tripp Lake in Poland, Maine, then over to Crystal Lake in Gray, Maine.

By the time we finally pulled back into Saco, it was 2:45 PM. What a day! 9 hours on the clock and 140 miles driven, but most importantly: two more wedding rings are back on their owners’ fingers. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ’

We love our job. We truly have the best job in the world!

ย If it matters to you, it matters to us. ๐Ÿฆ…โค๏ธ

THE ULTIMATE THANK YOU โœ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‡

The very next day, I received this incredible text from Jack that truly made the whole journey worth it:

“Hi Dennis, I canโ€™t thank you enough for finding my ring yesterday. That ring meant a lot to me and I couldโ€™ve bought a new one, but it wouldnโ€™t have been the same. You guys are incredible! The timing was unbelievable, because my sister saw the article in the paper just two days ago, and without that, we would never have known anything about you. Itโ€™s a miracle! Thank you so much, Jack H.”

Gold Engagement Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ’ ๐Œ๐€๐Š๐ˆ๐๐† ๐€ ๐๐„๐„-๐‹๐ˆ๐๐„ ๐“๐Ž ๐’๐€๐…๐„๐“๐˜!๐Ÿ

It was August 1st when the phone rang. On the line was Kaitlin, sounding completely anxious. Her sister, Kelly, had just lost her precious engagement ring somewhere on the beautiful, massive expanse of Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport Maine.

As a detectorist with ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‘๐ข๐ง๐  ๐…๐ข๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ž, I immediately went into investigative mode. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ I started asking my usual checklist of questions to narrow down the search grid:

* Did she lose it in the water or the dry sand?

* Did she see or feel the ring slide off?

* Was there a specific area where she spent most of her time?

* What kind of metal is the ring made of? (I always bring a matching test ring to calibrate my detector and show the client exactly how it works!)

What Kaitlin told me next was a scenario I won’t soon forget! ๐Ÿคฏ

Earlier in the day, Kelly had been swimming, which naturally shrinks fingers. Later, while relaxing peacefully in her beach chair, a bee or hornet suddenly landed right on her! ๐ŸโŒ

Total panic set in. Kelly jumped up, took off running, and began wildly flailing her arms to swat the stinging threat away. She bolted around her family’s beach setup and ran toward the water until the bee was finally gone. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

It was only when she sat back down in her chair that her heart sankโ€”her engagement ring was gone. To make matters worse, her wedding was just two months away in October! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’

Kelly was fairly certain the ring was somewhere in the dry sand. But with her running in circles and flailing her arms, that ring could have flown off her finger in a 360-degree radius, landing anywhere up to 30 or 40 feet away! The search grid was going to be massive.

Kaitlin mentioned that the whole family was still out on the beach actively searching. I immediately gave her some crucial advice: “Please hold off on disturbing the area as much as possible! Whatever you do, don’t dig any holes.” When helpful searchers dig and refill holes, they can inadvertently bury a shallow ring too deep for a standard detector to scan. ๐Ÿ›‘โณ

At that exact moment, Cheryl and I were actually over on Mackworth Islandย  in Falmouth, Maine. We were in the middle of searching for a lost diamond stud earring. Unfortunately, that specific hunt turned up empty.

As soon as the earring search wrapped up an hour later, we packed up our gear. With all the wild details of the bee-panic engagement ring loss fresh in our minds, there was only one thing left to do: hit the road and get to Kennebunkport Maine as fast as possible! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

I called Kaitlin back to let her know we were about 45 minutes away. She told me her father would meet us at the beach access path to guide us directly to the spot. Sure enough, the moment Cheryl and I arrived, her dad was right there waiting for us. He escorted us straight down to the scene of the “bee incident.”

That is where we met Kelly. With her wedding coming up fast in October, the stress and anxiety coming from her were palpable. I knew we needed to find this ring, and fast. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

Kelly pointed out exactly where her beach chair had been when the bee landed on her. Then, she walked me through her frantic flight path as she tried to escape it. At first glance, it didn’t look like a massive area. But knowing how far a ring can fly when someone is violently flailing their arms, the potential search zone could easily extend 40 feet on either side of that path.

I decided the smartest move was to start scanning the dry sand between their family beach setup and the nearby dune restoration project. As I looked around, two major worries crossed my mind. First, I prayed the ring hadn’t flown into the protected dune grass, which is strictly off-limits. Second, the beach was packed! There were crowds of people with towels, blankets, and beach bags lined up just past the high tide mark. If that ring took flight, it easily could have landed right on someone else’s towel or bounced straight into a stranger’s beach bag. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐ŸŽ’

With the stakes higher than ever, it was time to turn on the detectors and start swinging.

I started with a tight grid search in the area behind their beach setup and right up to the edge of the dune grass. After about 30 minutes of careful sweeping, my detector picked up only a few stray coins and the usual beach trashโ€”but no engagement ring. ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

Next, I moved into their beach canopy. I spent about 10 minutes checking inside, but the metal frame from the canopy makes a thorough search difficult because it interferes with the detector’s signals. It wasn’t a perfect sweep, but I knew I could always come back and try a different approach inside the canopy later in the evening if the primary search areas turned up empty.

Having now cleared the interior of the canopy, the north side, and the west side, it was time to change direction. I shifted my focus to the south side of the canopy and began working my way toward the front, closely tracing the path of her frantic flight to safety. ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿค”

Almost immediately, my headphones lit up with that beautiful, low tone I was hoping to hear! ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽ‰

I pulled out my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the target, then carefully brushed through the soft sand with my hand. I felt the familiar shape of a ring. Before I even had it pulled completely out of the sand, Kelly and Kaitlin caught sight of it and started jumping up and down in pure joy! ๐Ÿ’ƒโœจ

Their father and other family members erupted into applause, and the cheering and excitement instantly spread to nearby beachgoers who had been watching the drama unfold. It was an absolutely fantastic moment, seeing so much happiness wash over everyone on that beach! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ‘

Kelly and Kaitlin immediately rushed over to give me giant hugs, followed by a firm, grateful handshake from their father as the cheers continued. Kelly couldn’t stop thanking me, flashing one of the biggest, best smiles I have ever seen. ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธ

As Cheryl and I packed up and walked away, I was floating on cloud nine. Helping Kelly recover her engagement ring just weeks before her big October wedding is exactly why we love doing this work. There is no better feeling in the entire world. I truly have the best job, and I love what I do!

GOLD STUD EARRING LOST IN THE GRASS, FOUND IN SCARBOROUGH, MAINE WITH A METAL DETECTOR

On July 15th, I got a heartbreaking call from Emily, a local real estate agent. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ
The night before, she was playing volleyball at Memorial Park in Scarborough, Maine. ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ“ Side note: This park is so nostalgic for meโ€”itโ€™s the site of the old Portland Twin Drive-In Theatre! ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ

During a big play at the net, Emily jumped high and brushed against the mesh. ๐Ÿฅ…

In a split second, her custom earring slipped out and vanished into the thick grass. ๐ŸŒฟ

Emily and her friends searched on their hands and knees but found absolutely nothing. ๐ŸŒพ

This wasnโ€™t just any jewelry. Emily used to be a professional jeweler. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

She had designed and handcrafted this specific gold earring herself. ๐ŸŽจ

She left the park completely devastated. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Most people think metal detectors find jewelry instantly. ๐Ÿช™

But tiny stud earrings are the ultimate test of skill and gear. ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ

They contain an incredibly minute amount of precious metal. ๐Ÿค

When they fall into thick grass, they rarely lay flat. ๐ŸŒฑ

Standard detecting programs look for round, dense targets like coins or thick wedding bands. ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ’

A vertical, microscopic gold post has an electromagnetic footprint that is almost non-existent. ๐Ÿ“‰

Standard factory programs will simply ignore it or filter it out as ground noise. ๐Ÿ”‡

To give us a fighting chance, I swapped to my agile 8″ coil. ๐Ÿ”„

I booted up the Minelab Manticore’s specialized “Gold Field” program. ๐Ÿ‘‘

This mode is engineered to sniff out tiny, low-conductive gold that other detectors miss.

Emily met me at the park at 1:30 PM, right after I got back from York. ๐Ÿš—

She had smartly marked the exact net post hole with a small tree branch. ๐ŸŒฟ

I started a tight, overlapping grid search on her side of the net. ๐Ÿฅ…

Nothing but faint iron mineralization from the soil. ๐Ÿงฑ

I crossed over to the opposing team’s side of the net and kept swinging. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

After 5 to 6 minutes of methodical scanning… BANG! โšก

A sharp, beautifully repeatable audio signal broke through my headphones. ๐ŸŽง

Having had two complete and total knee replacements, dropping down to the ground wasn’t happening. ๐Ÿฆฟ๐Ÿฆฟ

Instead, I carefully bent over and used my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the grass blades. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

As I slowly parted the turf with my fingers, there it wasโ€”gleaming bright yellow in the dirt! โœจ๐Ÿฅ‡

Emily spotted it at the exact same millisecond. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโญ

(If you haven’t seen her reaction yet, go watch the video Reel I posted last night!) ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ‘‡

She started jumping up and down with her hands in the air, celebrating wildly! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ƒ

๐Ÿ™Œ “WOW, thank you so much!” she shouted. ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐ŸŽ‰

Seeing that pure joy and relief is exactly why I do this. โค๏ธ

Honestly, I have the best job in the world, and I love my job! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ผ

Funny enough, volleyball courts have been my specialty this season!

This actually marks my third volleyball court recovery of the year. ๐ŸŽ‰

The first two were rings lost in the deep sand during intense beach volleyball games. ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ

But switching from soft beach sand to thick park grass is a whole different ballgameโ€”and it feels great to keep the streak alive! ๐Ÿ–๏ธโžก๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

Platinum Wedding Ring With Diamonds Lost At Short Sands Beach, York, Maine Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? THE RESCUE AT SHORT SANDS BEACH! ?

? A VERY SPECIAL 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY MIRACLE! ?

? THE PANIC CALL
It was early afternoon on July 31st when my phone rang. On the other end was Laura, and I could hear the immediate panic in her voice. She had just lost her wedding ringโ€”a stunning platinum wedding ring with a half band of diamonds, and the irreplaceable symbol of nearly ten years of marriage.

?๏ธ THE IMPOSSIBLE TARGET
The biggest challenge? She wasn’t entirely sure where it had slipped off.
She had been playing up on the dry beach sand and digging holes with her young children, at Short Sands Beach, in York Beach, Maine. The moment I heard the words “digging holes,” my heart instantly sank. If that ring had slipped off and been buried deep inside a refilled sandcastle pit, finding it was going to be a massive challenge.
But then there was the second possibility. They had also been body surfing in the crashing waves at high tide! ?

โฑ๏ธ THE TIMELINE
When I asked Laura if she had felt the ring slip off, she gave me the breakdown. Earlier in the day, she had safely stored the ring inside a Ziploc baggie in her beach bag. Her family was with the chairs the entire time, so she knew it hadn’t been taken. She was 99% sure she took it out of the baggie and put it back on her finger right before heading into the water. She noticed it was completely gone the second she stepped out of the surf.

? TRAFFIC? NO PROBLEM!
Even though she was heartbroken, Laura was incredibly sweet and considerate. She told me, “If the traffic is crazy, please donโ€™t bother. I feel bad taking up your time.”
By now, it was 2:15 PM. I told Laura right then and there that I would get to her as soon as possibleโ€”traffic or no traffic!
I hit the road and made good time, arriving just before 3:30 PM. To make things even smoother, Laura had incredibly arranged for a secured parking spot for us nearby. A HUGE releif as parking is a nightmare in these coastal Maine towns.

?๏ธ THE CROWDED BEACH HUNT
Laura met me and walked me down to Short Sands Beach, where the rest of her family and friends were still hanging out. By this time, the tide was starting to go out, but the water was still high up on the crowded beach.
I started by searching the best I could around all the beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and other beach necessities. I paid particular attention to the areas where the holes had been dug, but found no sign of the ring. With so many people and belongings covering the sand, I decided to abandon the dry sand search.
Since the tide was still fairly high, I pivoted to the small strip of wet sand and began following the water line out. Unfortunately, because the dry beach was packed, the wet sand was heavily crowded too. I did the best I could under the circumstances, but I knew this wasn’t a proper, thorough grid search.

? THE 5:00 AM MISSION
With the beach still packed with people, I knew we needed a different strategy. I told Laura I would head home but return early the next morning at 5:00 AM to continue the hunt. I planned to bring Gary Hill with me to thoroughly search the entire area while it was completely free of beachgoers. My biggest concern was beating the beach rake cleaning machine, which would easily scoop up or bury the ring if it went over the area first!
With the game plan set, Cheryl and I packed up our gear and headed back home to Saco for the evening.
The next morning, the mission was on. Gary met me at my house at a bright and early 4:15 AM. We threw our gear into The Ring Finder Mobile and jumped right onto the Maine Turnpike. We arrived back at Short Sands Beach pre-dawn, just in time to catch a beautiful, quiet sunrise over the ocean.
We mapped out a flawless game plan. Gary’s mission was to start up in the dry sand near the seawall and systematically work his way down toward the wet sand. Meanwhile, I would start right at the cusp of the dry and wet sand, tracking my way down toward the receding water.
With our combined teamwork, we were confident we could get this entire area searched before the beach cleaning machine or the first beachgoers arrived to crowd our grid.

? LETS GO!!!
As we started searching, those deeply dug sand holes from the day before were still weighing heavily on my mind. But I had total faith in Gary to proceed very slowly, carefully listening for even the faintest blip of a non-ferrous target.
The beach was relatively quiet, and only a few random targets were popping up. Then, after about 5 to 7 minutes of sweeping, my detector caught something. It was a very, very low tone.
Honestly, my first thought was that it was going to be a piece of trash foil. It was that low, registering right at a 05 on my Target ID (TID). It was a very low-conductive target, but experienced detectorists know you can never pass those up. Knowing that a small platinum ring can absolutely ring up with a TID of 05, I didn’t hesitate. I knew I had to dig it.

? THE REVEAL
I dug a small scoop of sand and carefully dumped it onto the wet sand to separate the target. As I sifted through, there it wasโ€”something glinting round and silver. It was Laura’s platinum wedding ring!
How crazy is that?! Gary and I had only been on the beach for about five minutes before the missing ring was safely in my hand!
I uncovered it right at the high tide mark where the wet and dry sand meet. Because it was found far away from the dry sand where she had been digging holes with the kids, my guess is that the ring definitely slipped off while she was out body surfing in the water. I hadn’t been able to search this exact spot the previous afternoon due to the massive wall of beach chairs, towels, and crowds. Later on when I got home, I actually looked back at photos from the day before, confirming that this exact target zone had been heavily packed with people.
Once the initial shock wore off, Gary and I decided to film a very short video for the big reveal. I started the camera showing the gorgeous sunrise, telling Laura we were at the beach but were already going to be leaving because…
Then, I panned the camera straight to Gary, who had a massive smile on his face. As I shouted, “…WE FOUND IT, CONGRATULATIONS!!!” Gary held her beautiful platinum ring high up for the camera to see! ?โœจ
I hit send on the video at exactly 5:14 AM. I knew it was incredibly early, but I also knew the absolute anguish and heartbreak Laura had been going through. She had put on a brave face the afternoon before, but Cheryl could sense the pure, heavy agony she was holding deep inside. There was absolutely no way I was going to hold back the good news for a single second longer than I had to.

? SMILES, HUGS, AND CELEBRATION!
After hitting send, Gary and I didn’t pack up just yet. We stuck around to search for a few other items that had been lost weeks earlierโ€”ones that haven’t been found yet, at least to our knowledge.
About an hour later, my phone rang. It was Laura, and she was in total shock and disbelief! She told me she had truly believed her wedding ring was gone forever, only to wake up and see a video of it completely safe. I could hear the pure joy and excitement in her voice as she kept thanking us over and over. She thanked us for staying around the beach and let us know she would be right down as soon as the kids finished eating breakfast. I told her it was no problem at allโ€”we’d be waiting right there.
A very short time later, Laura, her husband Matt, her children, and three of her nieces all marched down onto the beach to witness the official return. It was absolute magic. There were SMILES, SMILES, and more SMILES everywhere you looked! And I can’t forget the hugs, the handshakes, and the massive shift in energy from the somber, heavy atmosphere of the afternoon before. Gary and I much prefer the celebrations, just like this morning!

With Lauraโ€™s 10th anniversary just a few weeks away at the time, she had a massive weight lifted off her shoulders just in time to truly enjoy and plan for her milestone dayโ€”which is right now, today!

Laura, we are so incredibly honored we could rescue your ring and preserve such a beautiful milestone. Happy 10th Anniversary from all of us at The Ring Finders of Maine! We wish you and your husband a lifetime of continued love, happiness, and securely-fitting rings! ?โค๏ธ

Gold Diamond Ring Lost In Freeport, Maine Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ? ???????, ??????? ?????, ??? ? ????-???? ???????! ?โœจ

? ??????? ????? & ??????? ????????????
In late July, Melissa headed down to Union Bluff Hotel & Meeting House in York Beach, Maine to celebrate a beautiful wedding. The ceremony was perfect, the reception was a blast, and everyone was in high spirits!

? ??? ????-??????? ??????? ???????
What is a trip to the southern Maine coast without some fresh seafood? After the reception, Melissa and a few close friends weren’t ready for the night to end. They decided to keep the good times rolling and track down some iconic Maine food.
They Southern Maine Lobster Company on U.S. 1 in York, Maine, ready to order up some legendary lobster rolls.

? ??? “???? ???????” ??????
While waiting for their food, the group grabbed a spot at an outdoor picnic table. Knowing how messy (and gloriously buttery) a fresh Maine lobster roll can be, Melissa made a quick decision to protect her jewelry.
She took off her 4 rings and carefully placed them inside her vehicle’s cupholder. No one wants melted butter and lobster stuck in the nooks and crannies of their favorite rings, right? It seemed like the perfect safe haven.

? ? ????? ????? ????… ??? ???
After finishing their delicious food and sharing plenty of laughs, it was time to wrap up the weekend. The friends all said their goodbyes, hopped into their cars, and went their separate ways.
Melissa jumped into her vehicle and started the drive home to Freeport Maine completely unaware of the twist that was coming next…

? ??????? ??? ?? ??? ????????!
When Melissa finally pulled up to FreeportME, she ran into an unexpected roadblock. Her long, shared driveway was completely blocked by her neighborโ€™s heavy construction equipment!
Standing by the side of the driveway was her friend and neighborโ€”the construction company owner’s wifeโ€”who was busy directing the massive machinery.

? ? ????? ???? ??? ? ???? ?? ?????
Knowing she’d have to wait a bit to park, Melissa scooped up her 4 rings from the cupholder, grabbed a few other belongings, and got out of the car. Her plan was simple: walk the 75 to 100 feet to her front door, drop off her things, and wait for the driveway to clear.
On her way to the door, she stopped to chat with her neighbor. As they stood there catching up for about 15 to 20 minutes, the heavy equipment kept shifting. Melissa and her friend had to move out of the way several different times to avoid the machinery as it maneuvered around the property.

? ??? ???????-???????? ?????????
Once the heavy equipment was finally cleared out of the path, Melissa went inside, set her belongings down, and headed back out to properly park her vehicle next to the house.
With her car safely parked and the long day wrapping up, she went back inside to finally slide her jewelry back on.
She reached for her rings.
One… two… three…
Wait. ?
There were only three rings. Her stunning gold ring lined with diamonds was completely gone! This wasn’t just any ring, either. It was a beautiful piece Melissa had treated herself to a few years earlier simply because she fell in love with it. A true symbol of self-love and hard work.
And now, it had vanished. ?

? ????? ??? ???? ????
Panic immediately set in. Melissa rushed back outside into the darkness. She carefully searched her small stone driveway, pacing back and forth over the exact spots where she had parked, walked, and stood talking to her neighbor.
Nothing. ?
She tore apart her vehicle, checking every crack and crevice around the cupholder. She searched inside her home, retracing every single step. Still, nothing.
Desperate for answers, Melissa called Southern Maine Lobster CO. LLC down in York to see if anyone had turned it in by the picnic tables. No luck.

?๏ธ ??? ????, ??? ?????, ??? ????
Melissa was facing a massive geographic puzzle. The precious gold and diamond ring could be anywhere between a seafood spot in York, Maine, and a stone driveway in Freeport, Maine.
But Melissa knew the timeline. The ring had to be in one of those two locations. Realizing she needed specialized help to solve this mystery, she picked up the phone and called me at The Ring Finders of Maine. ??๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ
We talked through the details and immediately locked in an appointment to search her yard in two days, on her next day off from work.

?๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ ????? ?? ??? ??????: ???โ€™? ??? ?? ??!
A few days later, I arrived at Melissa’s home in Freeport. She met me outside and walked me through the entire property, retracing her steps from that chaotic afternoon.
Searching for a gold ring in a small stone driveway is no easy taskโ€”those rocks love to swallow jewelry and hide it perfectly from plain sight. I told Melissa the plan of attack: a tight, methodical grid search covering the entire stone driveway from the exact spot she parked all the way to her doorstep.
I also made sure to map out the specific zones where she and her friend had stood dodging that heavy construction equipment. If that ring slipped out while she was moving around the machinery, my detector would find it.
With the gear turned on and headphones adjusted, it was time to swing the coil. Let’s get to it! โšก๏ธ?
? Criss-Crossing the Stones
I started the tight grid search, swinging the detector back and forth, back and forth across the stone driveway. At first, it was just the usual suspects: an occasional screw here, a stray piece of foil there, but no ring.
Once the area where Melissa originally parked was completely cleared, I expanded my search grid. I moved into the zone where she and her neighbor had stood talking and dodging the machinery. Still nothing.
By the time I hit the halfway point of the driveway, I was hunting hard.

? ??? “??” ???????
Suddenly, a very low tone broke through my headphones. I looked down at my Minelab Manticore screen. It was registering a Target ID (TID) of 07.
In the metal detecting world, a 07 TID is incredibly small. Nine times out of ten, itโ€™s just a tiny piece of trash or foil. But you never ignore a signal when a ring is on the line.
I looked down at the rocks directly beneath my coil. Visually, there was absolutely nothing to see. I grabbed my handheld pinpointer and bent down to narrow the target area.

? ??? ????????? ???? ?????????!
As I leaned closer to the ground, my eyes caught something. A flash of unmistakable yellow gold. A hint of perfect roundness.
There it was! Wedged right between two driveway stones, perfectly camouflaged.
I called Melissa over and told her the ring was sitting right in front of us. She stared down at the ground but couldn’t see itโ€”this ring was a total chameleon, blending into the rocks like it was meant to be there.
I pointed my finger right at it. The second her eyes locked onto the gold and diamonds, she broke out into a massive smile! ?โœจ

โค๏ธ ??????? ????? ??????
Melissa was in total disbelief. She and her neighbors had searched that exact stretch of stones multiple times by hand and never saw a thing. That is the power of a professional detector and the patience to dig the low numbers!
She thanked me repeatedly, thrilled to have her self-made keepsake back on her finger where it belongs. Seeing that relief on her face reminded me all over again why ? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ?????. ? ???? ?? ???! Knowing I can turn someone’s worst day into a celebration is the ultimate reward. Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ???? ?? ????? ????? ?????? ??? ???? ??? ?????โ€™? ??????? ????! ??๏ธ

With Point Sebago now in our rearview mirror, Cheryl and I were heading to Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. I was on the phone with Brody, who explained the situation. He, his wife, and their young child had been enjoying a beautiful day at GRB. Before heading into the water for a swim, Brody took off his gold wedding ring and placed it safely inside the cupholder of his beach chair.

Once he finished swimming, the family spent several more hours relaxing on the shore before finally packing up their gear. They loaded everything into their vehicle and began the drive back home to the Boston area, preparing for work the next morning.

Then came that all-too-familiar moment of panic. ? Brody remembered his wedding ring. He checked the chair, but the cupholder was completely empty. He rushed back to the beach to search his old setup spot, but as we all know, once under the sand, these rings are very difficult to find.

? ??? ????? & ??? ????
Brody then gave me the exact location on GRB and told me the ring should be somewhere between the seaweed from the high tide mark and the kayaks, closer to the dune grass. This gave me a solid, specific search window to target.

The late afternoon sun was casting long shadows across Goose Rocks Beach by the time Cheryl and I arrived. Because Brodyโ€™s setup had been high up on the dry sand, we didn’t have to worry about incoming tides or shifting water, but the soft, powdery sand of GRB can swallow a gold ring instantly.

I decided to start the grid search near the seaweed and grid search horizontally to the water. I would search north to south and work my way towards the kayaks. There were not many targets at all, that high up on the beach

โšก ??? ??????? ?? ?????!
The area wasn’t large and after 10 minutes or so, I heard the low tone I had been hoping for and anticipating! ?

As I kept swinging the coil over the area, trying to pinpoint the exact spot under the M15 coil, I could see the outline of a gold ring in the sand. I told Cheryl, “I can see the ring, in the sand,” to which she replied from 10โ€“15 feet away, “I can see it from here!” ?
I removed the ring from the sand and verified it was actually Brody’s gold wedding ring. I immediately recorded a video for Brody, telling him I was leaving the beach because I found the ring, panning the camera down to reveal his beautiful gold band. ?โœจ

? ??? ?.?-???? ????? ???? ??? ??? ??????
I sent the video to Brody, who called me back instantly, expressing his immense gratitude. Since he and his family had already left the area, we made plans to return the ring the following weekend. He would make the 1.5-hour drive right back to Kennebunkport Maine to get his ring back.
The next weekend, I drove down to GRB and met Brody for the very first time. I returned his wedding ring with those exact same kayaks in the background! Brody and his wife thanked me immensely, and as we shook hands to say goodbye, all I could think of was: ? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ?????. ? ???? ?? ???. โค๏ธ?

Thirty Year Gold Anniversary Wedding Ring Lost In Sebago Lake, Maine, Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ???? ?? ?????? ????? ??? ?????? ??? ????โ€™? ??????? ????! ?

As Cheryl and I were leaving Old Orchard Beach, fresh off a successful recovery, my phone rang. On the other end was Jennifer, and she was looking for some urgent help from The Ring Finders of Maine.

I asked her what happened, and she explained that her husband, Paul, had just lost his wedding ring at Point Sebago. The tricky part? He wasn’t entirely sure where it came off. It could have been in the dry sand around their beach setup, or it could be somewhere out in the water.

? ??? ????? & ??? ??????
Here is what we knew: Paul had been lounging around his beach chair, but he had also been out in Sebago Lake Maine, throwing a football around with his sons. Around lunchtime, as the family gathered to grab a bite to eat, Paul looked down and realized with a sinking feeling that his ring was gone.

The family immediately sprang into action. They searched all around their beach chairs and waded through the water where the football game had taken place, but they came up empty-handed.

When Jennifer told me the story, my immediate thought was that the ring had to be in Sebago Lake. In my experience, rings donโ€™t just fall off your finger while you’re lounging around in a beach chair. They come off when you are active and doing something with your handsโ€”like catching or throwing a football in the cool lake water!

? ??????? ?? ??? ??? ?????
Knowing this was likely going to be a water search, I told Jennifer I would absolutely get up there, but I needed to make one quick stop at my house first. If I was going into the lake, I needed the right tool for the job: my Minelab Excalibur II. This machine is a beast for water recoveriesโ€”fully waterproof and submersible up to 200 feet deep, it’s the same detector used on heavy-duty dive sites.
Once I retrieved the Excalibur and made sure we had every piece of gear required for a thorough water hunt, I called Jennifer back. I let her know we were officially on the road and that it would take about an hour to get there, aiming for a 3:30 PM arrival.
With the vehicle loaded up and a plan in place, Cheryl and I hit the highway, heading straight for Point Sebago.

โ›ณ ??? ??????? ?? ????? ??????
Once we arrived, we were promptly met at the main gate by Jennifer and her son, who got us checked in with visitor passes. From there, they drove us right down to the beach and lake in a golf cart. Wow, I really like this placeโ€”no walking required, lol!
Down at the water, we were met by Paul. He showed us their exact beach setup and pointed out the area of the lake where he had been standing while tossing the football around. I got my gear on, fired up the Excalibur, and walked straight into Sebago Lake with Paul leading the way to his exact spot.

? ??????????? ??? ???? ??????
Once I could see the entire layout of the area, I told Paul my strategy: I was going to start my grid search just a little further out and deeper in the water. I always over-grid an area to make absolutely sure I donโ€™t miss a single spot where a ring could possibly be hiding.
Thatโ€™s when Paul gave me one more piece of informationโ€”he mentioned that he had actually swum out to retrieve the football a few different times, and on those swims, the water was over his head. There wasn’t much I could do about those deep-water spots at that moment, but I could certainly search every single inch of the rest of the area.
I set up my grid lines vertical to the shore, locking my eyes onto an onshore landmarkโ€”a specific tree at the back of the beach area. Keeping my focus on that tree would ensure I walked in a perfectly straight line.

โšก ??? ??????? ?? ?????!
With the plan locked in, I waded out until the water was approximately armpit deep and started making my way back toward the shore. I hadn’t even been searching for two minutes when I reached belly-deep water and a strong, clear signal hit my headphones. My first target! Could this really be Paul’s wedding ring already?
I plunged my long-handled beach scoop deep into the sand, lifted it up, and dumped the contents into the floating sifter I use out in the water. As the water cleared and I looked inside, I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES.
A gold ring was sticking right out of a clump of sand!
I turned, looked right at Paul, and said, “I got it.”

? ??????????? ?? ??? ?????
Paul immediately made a beeline to me, and Jennifer and one of their sons rushed right out behind him. I told Paul he could have the honors of removing his ring from the sifter himself. As he grabbed it, the sheer relief on his face was incredibly evident.
Suddenly, everyone in the family was smiling, shaking hands, and hugging. But the magic didn’t stop there. Once the other vacationers in the area realized what had just happened, a massive wave of applause, clapping, and cheering started filtering out to us from the shore and from people in the water. It was an absolutely awesome moment to experience!

?๏ธ ? ???? ??????????? ?????
As we were walking out of the lake, Jennifer let me in on a huge secret: she and Paul would be celebrating 30 years of marriage this upcoming October! Recovering Paul’s wedding ring was an unbelievable relief for their massive upcoming anniversary.
Jennifer and Paul continued to praise me for making the trip out to help them, and as we stood there talking about 30 wonderful years of their lives together, my phone rang yet again.

? ??? ?? ????????????? ??? ??? ??? ?????!
The next call was for a lost wedding ring down at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport Maine. Paul and Jennifer were incredibly generous and offered to buy Cheryl and me a round of drinks to celebrate the win, but we had to politely decline. A wedding ring had to be found, and as we always say:
“If it matters to you, it matters to us.” โค๏ธ
So, with two successful ring recoveries already under our belts today, Cheryl and I hopped back into the vehicle and headed straight to Kennebunkport Maine. Let’s see if we can make it a hat trick! ?โ˜˜๏ธ??? ?

Sterling Silver Ring Lost In The Old Orchard Beach, Maine Sand, Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

? ??????? ?LD ORCHARD ????? ??????! ?

? ??? ???? ???? ???????
I just received a text from Claudia asking, “Hey! I heard about you for a ring lost on the OOB Beach.” I texted right back letting her know that yes, I find rings on the beach, and asked if she had just lost one.

?๏ธ ??? ???????????? ???
Claudia explained that she had taken her beautiful sterling silver ringโ€”a precious Valentine’s Day gift from her partnerโ€”off and placed it safely on her beach towel before heading into the ocean for a swim with her daughter. Once they came out of the water, her daughter grabbed the towel to dry off… and you know the rest of the story. The silver ring disappeared instantly into the sand! โšก

? ? ???? ????? ????
Claudia and her group of family and friendsโ€”visiting all the way on vacation from Canada, Quรฉbec.โ€”started a quick search. However, they quickly and smartly called the search off. They were afraid of accidentally kicking the ring out of the area or pushing it deeper into the sand out of reach of my metal detector. Truly a smart move! ?

? ??? ???? ?? ??? ??????? ?????
I told Claudia I could be at her location in @lOld Orchard Beach in 15 minutes if I could find parking. Cheryl and I loaded up the metal detecting gear and headed straight to OOB. After driving around for 5 minutes looking for a spot, we finally parked about 1/3 of a mile away and walked over to Claudia’s location.

? ????????? ??? ????
Once we arrived, we saw that Claudia and her group had completely cleared the area and placed their beach chairs in a perfect semi-circle to keep the loss zone clear and identifiable. Another great move! I really like these people. ?

? ? ??????? ?? ?????!
I fired up the metal detector and asked ???? ?????? ???????????? ??????????????, ??????, to start rolling the camera. I took exactly two steps and heard the unmistakable tone I was hoping to hear.
Are you serious?! ?
Just two steps and literally 5 seconds into the search, I believed I had already found it. I put the detector down, reached my hand into the sand, felt around, and pulled Claudia’s sterling silver ring, sparkling with stones, right out of the sand! ?โœจ
(Be sure to watch the video below to see the exact moment it happened!)

? ???????? ????? ??? ????? ????
This was easily one of the fastest recoveries I have ever had. It happened that fast because Claudia and her group had the foresight not to disturb the area, and instead chose to isolate it perfectly by marking it with their beach chairs.
Claudia and her group were all smiles! I cannot stress enough how much Claudia and her crew really helped themselves and me by doing everything exactly right:
* Time is of the essence: Claudia messaged me within minutes of losing her ring.
* Stop searching: They stopped before disturbing the area.
* Isolate the zone: They marked the spot perfectly while keeping others out. ??

? ?? ?? ??? ???? ?????????!
After the smiles, hugs, and handshakes were over, Cheryl and I grabbed our gear and headed back to our vehicle a third of a mile away.
But the day wasn’t over yet!
As soon as we got into the vehicle, the phone rang. Another lost ring phone call! We threw it in drive and headed straight to Point Sebago on Sebago Lake Maine in Casco, Maine. Little did we know, as we left Old Orchard Beach, our ring-finding adventures for the day were just beginning… ??

? ???? ? ???? ?? ????????? ???’? ?????!
If you lose a ring, keys, or other jewelry on the beach or in the grass, remember: Stop searching, mark the area, and call a professional immediately! Time and moving sand are your biggest enemies.

Sterling Silver Wedding Ring Lost In The Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, At Goochโ€™s Beach, Kennebunk, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

?โ€โ™€๏ธ ???? ??? ???? ?? ??? ????: ? ??????? ???? ??????? ?? ?????’? ?????! ??
The call to action can arrive at any moment, and on Tuesday, July 21st, late in the morning, a text message popped up on my phone from a client named Kate. The message read: “Hello, I lost a ring this morning on Goochโ€™s beach. Would you be able to look for it? I believe it is in front of this house in the sand.” Along with the message was a photo of a beach house with its address right there on the Kennebunk coast. ??

I immediately called Kate back to get the crucial details. She explained that she had been out enjoying the morning surf. Before hitting the waves, she took off her precious Sterling Silver Wedding Ring and tucked it safely inside her shirt pocket. Once she was finished surfing, she gathered up her beach gear, packed up, and headed homeโ€”completely forgetting the ring was still loose in her pocket. It wasn’t until she arrived home that reality hit, and she realized the ring was gone. ??โ€โ™€๏ธ

?๏ธ ??????? ??? ?????? ???? ???? ?????? ?????
I told Kate I would absolutely go search for it, but when it comes to shifting beach sand, a little bit of strategy goes a long way. To pinpoint the location as accurately as possible, I pulled up a Google Earth aerial view of the house and the beach area directly in front of it. ?๏ธ?

Using the image, I drew two specific boxes directly in the sand:
* ? A Red Square positioned closer to the high tide line.
* โฌ› A Black Square positioned up higher, near the seawall.

I sent the marked-up photo back to Kate and asked which color zone matched where she had been sitting. Kate replied: “Red. I am fairly sure it is in the sand but there is a chance it could be on the sidewalk.” ??โ€โ™€๏ธ

With a clear target area locked in, I told Kate that Cheryl and I were on our way. We immediately loaded up the metal detecting gear and hit the road, heading straight for Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, just across the river from Kennebunkport. ??

? ??? ???????? ?????? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????
Once Cheryl and I arrived at Gooch’s Beach, we didn’t take any chances. We started with a thorough visual search up and down the sidewalk and the street area, just in case it had dropped on the pavement. No luck. ?๏ธ?๏ธ

Next, it was time to hit the sand. I stepped down onto the beach and established my search boundaries, working from a flagpole just south of the distinctive yellow beach house over to some surfboards sitting on the beach just to the north. I snapped a few photos of the setup and messaged them to Kate to confirm. She looked at the pictures and told me the ring should be parallel to those surfboards, lying somewhere in the sand.

Knowing the layout, I estimated I could sweep the entire designated area in about 15 minutes. I fired up the metal detector and equipped my largest coil, the M15, to cover the ground as quickly and efficiently as possible. I locked into a tight, systematic grid search across the “red square” zone. I covered every single inch of itโ€”but the detector remained completely silent. No ring. โŒ?๏ธ

? ??? ?????????? ?????: ??? ????? ???????
Even though it was technically outside of Kate’s suspected drop zone, I decided to extend my search right up to the massive seawall. Now, in the metal detecting world, there is a funny truth: a detectoristโ€™s biggest enemy is actually metal! When you are searching for non-ferrous targets like silver or gold, an extremely large ferrous metal object can completely mask out the smaller target, making it completely invisible to the machine unless you proceed with extreme caution. ?๏ธโšก

Because this seawall is constructed entirely of metal, I knew my massive M15 coil wouldn’t be able to get very close without overloading. I gave it a shot anyway, creeping as close to the barrier as the large coil would allow. Ten minutes later, I still had absolutely nothing.

I decided it was time to call Kate back to narrow down her exact path. I asked her: “Which set of stairs did you use to exit the beach? The ones to the south or the north of the yellow house?” I figured I would just grid search her footprints right up the steps.
I was literally STUNNED by her reply.

Kate calmly told me she hadn’t used any stairs at all. Instead, she had pulled herself up and vaulted straight over the seawall directly in front of the yellow house! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ?

That seawall stands between 4.5 to 5 feet tall! I chuckled and told Kate, “Well, it must be nice to be young and agile! There is absolutely no way I would have even attempted that jump!” ?โ€โ™€๏ธ?

? ???? ???? ??? ??? ?-?????? ??????
That one piece of new information changed absolutely everything. I realized the ring didn’t drop while she was walking to an exitโ€”it likely launched out of her shirt pocket the exact second she leaped over that wall.

I had already searched near the wall with my large M15 coil, but I knew I could get significantly closer to that heavy metal barrier if I switched to my smallest setup. I had Cheryl run back to the vehicle to grab my small M8 elliptical coil. We swapped them out on the fly. To navigate the electrical interference from the wall, I would need to use a very short, highly disciplined, and deliberate swing. ?๏ธ?
I restarted the search right at the base of the wall, keeping my swings under tight control. Within just five minutes, the machine let out a beautiful, unmistakably loud high toneโ€”exactly what I had been praying to hear! ?โœจ
The target was resting a mere foot and a half to two feet away from the massive metal wall. I pulled out my pinpointer, locked onto the exact signal location, and used my fingers to carefully brush away the loose sand.
Magically, a gleaming Sterling Silver Wedding Ring appeared out of the grains! UNREAL! I had found it! ??

? ???? ?? ???? ???? ? ?????
Cheryl and I were absolutely ecstatic, and we immediately caught the whole recovery on video from above to send to Kate. When her phone rang with the clip, she called us back instantly, completely over the moon with joy! It all made sense nowโ€”when Kate cleared that 5-foot wall in a single bound, the momentum sent the ring flying right out of her shirt pocket. ?โ€โ™€๏ธ?
As luck would have it, Kate lives in Saco, the exact same town Cheryl and I call home. We made quick arrangements to meet up and safely return the family heirloom as soon as we got back into town. ??

As I walked off Gooch’s Beachโ€”using the actual stairs and definitely not trying to play Superman like Kateโ€”I was smiling from ear to ear. If I hadn’t asked that one crucial question about the stairs, or if I hadn’t brought my full arsenal of specialized coils, that ring might still be buried out there today. The stars were definitely aligned! ?โœจ

We met up with Kate back in Saco, and seeing her face light up with excitement as her wedding ring went back where it belonged was the perfect end to the day. As hugs and smiles were exchanged, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself thinking, “How on earth did she jump over that wall?”
I truly have the absolute best job in the world. I love my job! โค๏ธ?

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made ofโ€”until it was time to pack up. ?๏ธโ˜€๏ธ
As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him! ??

If you follow my page, you already know the golden rule: once a ring meets beach sand, it performs an almost impossible vanishing act. It settles instantly, blending perfectly into its new surroundings. ?๏ธ?
The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.

Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: โ€œYou need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.โ€ ?๏ธ?๏ธ
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to the Kennebunkport Police for the incredibly kind words and the referral! We truly appreciate our local law enforcement looking out for beachgoers and pointing them in our direction. ??

Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?
Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25โ€“30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic. ??

When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.
Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!
When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site. ?

Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I mapped out the strategy and told the couple I would perform a meticulous grid search, moving north to south, parallel to the shoreline.
I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.
BANG! ?
The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds? ?
I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandonโ€™s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!! ??

Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy. ?โค๏ธ
But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November! ??
On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again. ??
