Gold and Diamond Pendant Lost in House .. Calabasas, CA. .. Found in Carpet

Sunday afternoon I received a call from Marie who had lost a small gold and diamond heirloom pendant inside a house. She had been visiting friends in Calabasas, CA. when the pendant slipped off the chain while attempting to put on her necklace. The small pendant fell somewhere in the room which had a very thick carpet. Everybody in the family tried to find it with no success.
When Maria contacted me, I explained that it is difficult to use my normal metal detector inside a home. I have small hand held detectors that may work, depending on the location. Sometimes there are electrical noises like alarm systems or computer system equipment that interfere with metal detectors. Listening to her story, she may have also lost it outside the house, so we had to give it a try.
Maria didn’t want to bother her hosts anymore this day, asking me if I could come Monday. It was about noon Monday when I met her friend’s husband, Dave at the residence . He walked me into the room where the loss occurred. He had disassembled the bed removing the mattress and had moved the dresser to the other side of the room.
Two years ago I bought a UniProbe detecting unit just for situations like this. As a backup I chose to use my Garrett Pro-Pointer AT pinpointer.
Working on my hands and knees I covered about an 8’x 8′ area before I got a signal. There deep in the thick carpet was Maria’s very sentimental pendant. Dave was elated and couldn’t believe that it was found in a place that so many had looked. I was also impressed by how well my UniProbe pinpointer unit worked with such a small piece of gold. I did not get to meet Maria but I was the first person to tell her by phone that her priceless keepsake was found.

Buried Wallet and Celphone.. Santa Monica, CA. .. Found with Metal Detector

Richard was visiting from New Mexico. He has to catch a return flight at 8am in the morning. All his identification, credit cards and money is in his wallet. He placed his wallet and his cell phone in a zip lock bag then buried them in the sand, placing his backpack on top of his secret hiding place.
.. Richard didn’t want to leave his wallet and cellphone in his backpack in case somebody stole his backpack. It was a good idea if he remembered to retrieve his buried valuables before picking up his backpack. He was a half mile away from the location when he realized that forgot dig up his plastic bag. and to top it off it was dark out on the beach.
Returning to his motel room he was able to use the internet to contact me. I started to recommend another detectorist but after hearing how important it was to him. I told him I would meet him at 9:45pm. He didn’t have a phone so connecting with him had might be difficult. Sometimes people find wallets and keys before we get to the location, but that’s not going stop me from trying to meet up with Richard.
Another concern was the general location was one block south of the Santa Monica pier. Hit hard by other detectorists, especially on a Sunday evening. The larger size of the item also makes it possible that somebody found it playing in the sand.
After arriving, I walked out to the lifeguard tower where Richard said it was buried. He was there to meet me. First thing he told me that he was actually at the next tower. It made it easy to get close to the area he buried the wallet because it was in front of the tower. Also it was only lost for 3 hours. Fifteen minutes of grid searching with my CTX 3030 gave me good signal most likely from the Celphone, it is possible to get a decent signal from the magnetic strip on the credit cards.
This find saved the day the day for Richard. It would have been a mess to try to catch his flight in the morning without identification, credit cards, money or a celphone. Richard was elated not knowing what to do, so he gave me a big man hug.. Not the first time for me, just another way to say thanks. Check out the real smile on Richard’s photo.
I’m glad I did not say, I was too busy to take the call. From the time I left the house till the time I returned home was 2 1/2 hours. It took longer to take the photos than it did to find his buried treasure.

Surfer Hides Car Keys in Sand .. Then Can’t Find Keys .. Huntington Beach, CA .. Found with Metal Detector

I was on the beach practicing with a new detector that I purchased for finding small metallic items. A nice day on the beach except for Josh who came running up to me with a distressed look on his face. I asked him, what did you lose. He replied, my only set of car keys.
He had buried his keys under his towel while he went surfing. When we walked a couple blocks back to where his towel was, his friends had dug down throwing sand in piles everywhere. I did a quick search of the piles then a little higher on the slope. One foot above where they searched by hand I got a strong signal scooping up his keys. We think the towel may have been moved by someone or the wind.
The main thing was Josh was a happy surfer who didn’t have to call a tow truck or locksmith to help him get home. I’m pleased to be able to help him with a little bit of my time and my experience of using my metal detector on the beach. I had the opportunity to tell Josh about TheRingFinders.com asking him to share with his friends and social media.. More people need to know that this service exists. I love being able to help people.

Rose Gold Wedding Rind Set Lost in Sand .. Pacific Beach, CA. ..Found

Barbara called me about 6:30pm.. Telling me how she lost her wedding rings earlier that afternoon in the sand at Pacific Beach located in the SanDiego area. She took them off putting them on a towel while applying sunscreen.. Barbara was upset with herself but I assured her this was so common she shouldn’t be so hard on herself. I was also able to convince her that metal detectors work very well to recover rings lost in the sand. Our chances were good to find her rings as it had only been a few hours sense the loss.
Timing is important and getting close to the general area they were lost would have a lot to do with recovering the rings. She said that they could meet me after they got home from dinner commitment about 10 pm. Perfect for me because I could return a ring to a lady that lives in San Diego, saving her a trip to Newport Beach.
Barbara and Dan met me and I followed them to the north end of Pacific Beach. We walked a few blocks to some landmarks they had remembered. Barbara pointed to an broken pair of sunglasses and a rock they had placed each side of where they were sitting. Dan was interested in how the detector worked so I took a few moments to explain what it was telling me as a dug a few pieces of trash. Then I got two solid gold tones with nice ID numbers that matched. I scooped one ring and marked a spot for Barbara to find it with her fingers. I told her to grab with her fingers not drag her fingers through the sand. She got it and we took pictures. Returned to our cars to head home. I asked them to tell their friends and post on their social media about TheRingFinders.com. I’m one of 400 members located all over the country.

Two Rings Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

Two special rings given to Jessie by her late aunt were lost in the sand. I received an email just before midnight from Jessie.

I had taken the rings off because I was taking part in a cooking class for a work event and didn’t want them to get covered in raw chicken. I put them in the pocket of my apron and we ended up going to the beach to take a group photo with our aprons on – after the first photo I cast the apron aside, and the rest is history.
We were on Newport Beach this evening around 6:30 at the end of 49th street.

I couldn’t get a reply from her and it bothered me that the beach cleaning machine may get the rings before Jessie could talk to me. It’s less that 3 miles from where I live, so I took the above directions and drove to do a search. My plan was to grid search the first 40 feet from the towel line towards the beach front homes. The Beach King sifting machine normally does two or three passes along the towel line.
After about an hour I had confidence that the rings were not in beach sifting area. I could go home and wait for Jessie to call me with more definite directions. There was probably 150 yards of beach that the rings could be hiding, but they should be safe until I could talk to Jessie.
It was 1:30am as I walked off the beach, then I spotted finger drag marks on the dry sand. Set up a grid search and within 10 minutes I had Jessie’s two rings in my scoop.
Sent Jessie a email telling her I had found her rings and to call me so we could arrange at time and place to meet.. As it turned out I save her a trip from San Diego to Newport because I had another ring search the next day near where she lives. (Another coincident ? ). Jessie did give me some homemade brownies, a nice thank you card and a generous gratuity.

Lost Tungsten Carbide Ring .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

Mohammad had challenged his brother to a running race across the sand to the water. He twisted his ankle in the soft sand falling down. At that moment he felt his ring slip off his finger. After the loss they spent several hours trying to find it with their fingers.
His friend Sama, found my number on line, calling me to ask if I could help them. I had just finished finding a ring in San Clemente. It would take me about 40 minutes to get to their location. She agreed to wait even though it was getting dark.
The area where the ring was lost was in dry sand in mid beach. The most important thing was, Mohammad had the location very well marked, 40 paces from the cement walk way and 20 paces from the trash can. The perfect search conditions, most times people get confused and can’t get back to the spot. It wasn’t long till I had the ring and both Mohammad and Sama were on their way home.. It would be nice if all searches were like this. This was also another time I had to hear, ” I didn’t know TheRingFinders directory existed”. Thanks to the Internet, Sama was able to find TheRingFinders when she Google searched, how to find a ring in the sand..

Lost Ring in Sand .. Califia State Beach, San Clemente, CA. .. Found and Returned

Mike was advised by somebody on the beach to google search TheRingFinders.com to find somebody with a metal detector. That was why I got the call. People around this part of Southern Calif. beaches are getting to know about us.
He was at Califia State Beach searching the sand using plastic baskets to sift the sand with two friends. The initial loss occurred when a towel where he put his ring was picked up dumping the ring in the sand. A few hours later he and his friends had gone to another beach 20 miles north Mike realized his loss. They returned with tools to sift the beach. Finding the exact location was also a problem.
Mike’s friends had to leave, but Mike was there to guide me to the general location. He told me it was a Titanium ring so I was listening for a low tone. We grid searched a 40x 40′ square area with no success. I expanded the area on each side, that’s when I scooped an unexpected tone that turned out to be a Tungsten Carbide ring and it was Mike’s ring.. This has happened to me several times, where the person isn’t really sure what type metal their ring is. It really doesn’t matter because I dig all targets when on a search.
Mike and the other people on the beach that had searched for the ring, were impressed at how well the metal detector worked to find the ring. If you need a plumber, electrician or other professional service call them. If you need a metal detector call or google search  TheRingFinders.com.. We can find it, if it’s there. Crystal found my contact information on line. She told me that she had put her two rings on a towel that was on her beach chair. Later, when she went to move her chair under the shaded canopy, she grabbed the towel throwing it in a small tent they had set up for her young child. Crystal was holding her young daughter in her arms when she move the chair with the free hand.
It was just a few minutes after moving into the shade that she realized what she had done. Everybody jumped in to help and they were able to find the double wedding band, but couldn’t find the larger diamond engagement ring.

I was confident this would be an easy search judging by past searches.. Not so easy, I was begining to lose hope that the ring was still in the area. It was a white gold with large solitaire surrounded by quite a few diamonds, possibly it was buried deep by the other people searching by hand. I’ve also read that these solitaire rings may be lying in a vertical position, heavy end down. Three or four passes changing my settings on my detector to optimize detection depth with no success. I could see the look! from others that were watching me. ” Does this guy know what he’s doing look?”
As last resort we moved 35 feet away from where the first ring was found to check under the shaded canopy. Three or four swings inside, I got a strong solid hit, a nice low tone (12-03 TID).

We think that the ring may have dropped on her daughter or stayed on the chair till she brought everything inside the canopy. Another example of why I should not assume that both rings fell at the same time in the same place.
It was a challenging search that had me wondering if my equipment was working properly. My next move would have been to get one of my other backup detectors. Pulse induction detectors that get all metals with a little more depth.
Everybody seemed to be impressed that the ring was found and they said they would tell their friends about TheRingFinders.com.

Wedding Ring Lost in Waves Throwing a Frizbee .. Santa Monica, CA. . Recovered Next Day

This call began with a text message from Kirby: Hi. Found your # on ringfinders. My wife lost her wedding band in the water yesterday at santa monica beach. Just south of lifeguard 25. She was about 25 yard in from high tide line when it happened.It is very distinctive, simple but custom symbols. Are you available to hunt for it?

I text him back telling him I would be there at start of the 2pm low tide to search in the water. When I arrived they were on the beach in the location. They explained that Rita felt the ring come off while throwing a Frizbee in knee deep water the day before. They have matching white gold wedding bands, so Kirby showed me his. He also had bearings on the shore that he remembered turned out to make this a successful recovery.
They had basically resolved that the ring was lost forever, but I assured them we still had a very good chance to find it. The sand conditions looked perfect. It only took 20 to 30 minutes to find this sentimental wedding band. The second target I dug in knee deep water was Rita’s white gold ring. I walked back towards the two of them sitting on the beach holding my hands up with the ring. Then I tossed it to Kirby as he walked towards me. For the next half hour they kept telling me how they couldn’t believe we found the ring.. They are from Vancouver, BC. enjoying a vacation at Santa Monica Beach. Their vacation was not starting out very well the first day. We were able to change that because they were able to find TheRingFinders.com and they had been able to get me in the general location. It was a pleasure to meet this beautiful couple and we had an awesome day. I love this service, I’ll keep doing this as long as I am able to.

Wedding Ring Lost in Surf .. Crystal Cove State Beach, Newport Beach, CA. .. Recovered

The white gold diamond wedding ring was lost in the surf about 11:30 am at a 4.1′ high tide. When Shawn’s wife , Ashley was in the surf in approximately ankle deep water, her ring slipped off her finger into water saturated sand, disappearing immediately. Shawn called me from their home 40 miles away.
I got to the approximate location that same evening as the tide was coming back in. Beach closes at sunset. As it turned out, Crystal Cove State Beach has four entrances,  I went to the wrong part of Crystal Cove , because Shawn said it was the first lifeguard tower to the right of the tunnel ( 2 entrances have tunnels under PCH).  Texted him a photo of the lifeguard tower and he told me it wasn’t the right location.
Returned to my car, drove one mile south,  parked then walked a quarter mile to the location. Twenty feet to the left of the lifeguard tower I started a grid to and from the incoming waves. Second pass, first target was Ashley’s wedding ring.. I sent them a photo of the ring in my hand. They came that evening to pick up the ring. It was great that she didn’t have to lose a nights sleep or worry about losing her ring forever. Another nice note was this next week they will be celebrating their fourth year wedding anniversary. A very nice couple who were elated and in disbelief that they could find their ring using the Internet and a smart phone while at home 40 miles from where it was lost.. Maybe a good tag would be: ” How to find a ring 40 miles away remotely from the comfort of your couch”. You’ve got to love it !
