Diamond Eternity Wedding Band Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received an email from Molly last night at about 11:00 PM asking for my help in finding her diamond wedding band. She had included a general location for the loss. I emailed her back letting her know that if she could narrow down the search area for me, I would go and look immediately. The reason for this immediate action is because this beach is cleaned regularly by the county, and is one of the cleanest beaches I know of. I knew that if I didn’t get on this recovery right away, the chances of a recovery would diminish rapidly. I waited for her reply, but received none, so I decided to go and do a search anyway. I searched the whole area that I figured out from her email, and near the end of an hour I got a good signal, but not a gold signal, scooped it, and in the scoop was a diamond eternity ring, but it looked kind of like a kid’s ring, but who am I to make a judgement; I had found a diamond eternity ring (with what I found out when I got home, were not real diamonds). I took a picture of it and sent it to Molly. When I woke this morning I had an email from Molly stating that was not her ring with a picture of a much nicer ring. I let her know that I would go back hoping that the county had not cleaned the beach today.

Molly was not able to meet me at the beach because of her work schedule. She drew a map of the area, and tried to explain where the loss happened in more detail, and also had her husband call to help me understand better. I realized that the night before, I had been searching in the wrong area. When I got to the beach this morning, the first thing I saw was the county tractor towing it’s machine. Right away I didn’t feel good, but went out to search anyway. When I got to the area I saw that the stretch that I was going to search had not been touched by the machine; what a relief that was. I had a fairly short time to search because of a previously arranged search for this same morning, so I tried to make the best of my time. I was getting close to having to leave, when my phone rang, it was the other person I was supposed to help in 30 minutes. She called to let me know that she had found her ring, and I did not need to go there to search. Now I was free to do a very thorough search for Molly’s ring. About 2 hours later I got a good nonferrous signal, put the scoop in, and pulled up a very pretty diamond ring. I knew I had found it this time! I sent another picture to Molly of the new ring, and she sent back an excited affirmation. We arranged to meet after she got off of work to return her ring. When I met Molly she was so happy. She said that she and her husband had just celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary this month. She had agonized over the ring’s loss for 2 days, and I was glad to see her joy restored; another great day!

I went to the beach with my husband down the street, just like any normal weekend. That Sunday, we decided to just walk down & enjoy the beach for 60 minutes before his parents were here for lunch. Right when we sat down, I decided (NEVER AGAIN) to take off my wedding band I wore down and put sunscreen on my arms. I placed my wedding band next to my leg on the chair. Well.. I then forgot to put the wedding band back on. 60 minutes later we got our chair and towels and walked home. We were almost home when I looked down and said “MY RING!!! I TOOK IT OFF ON THE SAND”!!! After we looked for 15 minutes with the kind family, we knew the ring was gone! We had to race back to meet my in-laws for lunch. I couldn’t stop crying but pretend to be ok at lunch. After lunch, I was absolutely DEVASTED. I cried the entire afternoon and evening. I was so upset that I could do something so ridicules to something I treasured so much. We had JUST celebrated our 1year Anniversary.

That night before bed, I googled ” HERMOSA BEACH LOST & FOUND”. The first website that came up was RINGFINDERS.com . I clicked it, found Steve Smith and started reading his testimonials. All the stories sounded so similar to mine! It sounded too good to be true but I decided to email Steve, as it was late at night. I emailed him and only told him the street I had lost the ring at. And Hermosa Beach is known for its MILES of sand! I went to bed crying and felt helpless.

Fast forward to 2am. I woke up and the pit in my stomach was still there. I grabbed my phone to see if Steve had emailed back. Not only had he emailed back, but he had texted, called AND had already been to the beach!!! He had gone to the beach immediately at 12am! My heart was pumping! He had texted me that he had found a ring but unfortunately, it wasn’t mine. I emailed him back at 3am and put together a very basic map of where exactly we sat and what my ring looked like. I was so hopeful that maybe he could give it another shot in the morning.

The next morning while I was at work, Steve reached out that he was at the beach again looking but he needed more details on the location. This was 8:30am!!!! I texted my husband to call Steve right then and explain where we sat. less than 2 hours later….STEVE FOUND MY RING! He texted me a picture and I started crying at work!!!! He even offered to bring the ring to me AT WORK!

Steve is unbelievable. I thought that ring that I treasured was GONE for good. Not only did he go in the middle of night, he went first thing the next morning. He never gave up searching and was so kind. I was reluctant to email Steve with Ring Finders but I cannot explain the appreciation I have for this website and Steve Smith. Wedding Band Lost Right Before Wedding Found in Hotel Dumpster Next Day in San Pedro, CA… and Joyously Returned.

I was contacted by Alexa this afternoon about her wedding band. She believed it was put into the trash of the hotel room that she and her girlfriends stayed at the night before her wedding. It had been picked out especially by her fiancé Anthony, and wrapped, so she would not see it until he placed it on her finger yesterday at their wedding. The wedding went on even though the ring was gone, She explained that all the trash from yesterday had been put into the dumpster, and would be taken away tomorrow. I knew what this meant, we would have to empty the dumpster to search the trash, which did not excite me, so I really bombarded her with a lot of questions hoping it could have been lost somewhere else. It looked as though it was the trash. I asked her to go out and take a picture of the dumpster, so I could see the amount of trash in it to ascertain the enormity of the job ahead. She sent 2 shots (there were 2 dumpsters) one of an overflowing dumpster, and the other of one 3/4 full. My heart dropped a bit. I told her I was on my way, and that we would do a thorough search.

When I got to the hotel Alexa and her new husband Anthony met me at the dumpsters. I had a little time with the staff before they arrived, and found that the black 33 gallon bags were from the restaurant, and white ones from the rooms. Each dumpster had about an equal amount of black and white bags, so this information halved the process ahead. We talked a bit more about the contents they expected to see, and it seemed that we would be able to narrow down the search more because of specific things they used for their respective parties. Both Alexa and Anthony had parties that Friday night at the hotel on separate floors, but had the same beverages, and other utensils. With this information, I figured we had to find the trash with those items before we searched more intensely. We started pulling bags out and checking contents, nothing. We got down about half way, and couldn’t reach the bags anymore, so I went into the dumpster. The other problem was that the bags were cheap, and the heavy ones from the restaurant were coming apart and dumping the contents back into the dumpster, LOTS of uneaten food that I now had to search through (we were wearing gloves thankfully). We did find the trash that came from Anthony’s room, but the ring was not in that bag.

We finished the overflowing dumpster, so I went to the 3/4 full one and jumped in. I began removing bags and putting them out on the ground with all the rest. Finally, down in the corner, on the bottom of the dumpster, I found the bag that came from Alexa’s room, and handed it to Anthony. He took it over to a large piece of plywood that we were using to dump the bag contents allowing me to pass my detector over, and shook it out. I grabbed my detector, and began searching the trash finding a lot of foil items, but no ring. Alexa did find the paper bag the ring had been in. Her ring was also in a small plastic bag and wrapped in paper so she could not see it before the wedding, but we could not find it amongst the trash. It was looking a bit grim for finding the ring, but Alexa asked if I would check once more with the detector, which I told her I would be happy to do. Anthony and I began moving some of the bags that were crowding the area, when all of a sudden he looked into the slot on the bottom of the dumpster that is used by the trash truck to lift it into the truck, and there sat the little package. How it got there is a complete unknown.

It was just awesome to be there when Alexa saw her ring for the first time, and to be present when Anthony placed it on her finger for the first time as husband and wife, with all the hotel employees surrounding them, standing in the trash we had removed from the dumpsters. A wedding story they will be able to revisit many times throughout their married years to come. What a great storybook ending. What a great day.

Wedding Ring Set lost at Topanga State Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Genevieve contacted me late yesterday afternoon asking if I could help in finding her wedding set (engagement ring and wedding band). I asked her a few questions, and she let me know that the loss had happened not too long before her call which encouraged me at the possibility of a recovery. I told her that I would leave immediately in order to not allow any more time to elapse, causing the recovery to be much harder. I then asked her to secure the area, so that it would not be disturbed any further, and I was on my way.

When I got to the beach, I met her husband Carlo who led me to where Genevieve was waiting. They had laid out towels to secure the area where they thought rings had been lost. We discussed what had happened, and then I began the search. After about 3 short passes I got a good signal, dug, and in the scoop was Genevieve’s wedding band. I held it up, and said #1, she was so excited, as was Carlo. I continued my search working out of the area we discussed when I received another good signal, looked down and could see a small part of the edge of the second ring. In went the scoop, and out came the engagement ring. Needless to say, there were two very happy people at the beach yesterday. They had totally given up hope before they called. The call to me was a last resort. I am so glad I was able to answer that call, and restore their joy. Great day!

Engagement Ring Lost in Cypress, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I was out shopping today when I received an email from Russell asking for help finding his wife’s engagement ring. They had been out walking the day before when his wife swung her hand and her two rings (the wedding band and engagement ring) went flying off. Russell was walking behind his wife and was able to see the rings fly, and the location where they landed. The wedding band ended up rolling on the sidewalk, and was easily spotted and recovered. The engagement ring though landed in the mulch that bordered the sidewalk next to a short hedge. They looked around for it but were unsuccessful. Today Russell rented a metal detector to search for the ring and was again not able to find it. That is when he found me on The Ring Finders web site. I asked him to call me so I could ascertain the possibilities of a recovery, which he did. We arranged to meet about an hour later.

When I got to the area, Russell was waiting for me. He took me over to the spot and “walked” me through the loss. He showed me the stick he had placed at the spot so as to not forget where to begin his search. I then got my detector out and began a methodical search of the spot and surrounding area. I found numerous bits of foil, and other pieces of metal, but no ring. I then summarized that the ring may have bounced when it hit, and gone deeper into the hedge. I put the detector away, and got my pin pointer out to work in the hedge row. After about a 10-15 minute search, and outside of the search area I received a signal with the pin pointer down where the trunk of the hedge met with one of the large branches about 6-8 inches further into the hedge, at ground level covered with dead leaves, but could see nothing. I moved the many dead leaves and mulch out of the way, and then I saw it, the ring. I picked it up and turned to Russell and asked if this was what we were looking for. He got a big smile, but was amazed that it was not where he remembered seeing it hit. He and his wife have been married 1 1/2 years, and it was a blessing to be able to return this token of their love to them.

Heirloom Pendant and Chain Lost in Malibu, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received an email from Aarti last night regarding a pendant and chain she lost that day. She had been at the beach, and realized after she left that it was missing. This pendant her mother had made, after her father died 2 years ago. It had a little lens inserted in it, that when held up to the light enabled the viewer to read a special prayer dedicated to her father. She searched her car, and every other place it could have possibly been with no luck. She then surmised that it must be at the beach, lost somewhere in the sand. she called, and we discussed all of the possibilities, and arranged to meet this morning for a search.

When we met, Aarti took me to the area, and explained what she believed to have happened. We discussed the possibilities, and I told her how I would conduct my search, and then began my search. She told me that she was going to the car to look in that area just to see if it may have fallen off there, and I continued my search. I kept searching, finding numerous bottle caps, and other small pieces of metal. I then got a good strong repeatable signal, and when I dug the chain came out. I scanned the spot again, and in the same hole was the pendant. I looked to the area of Aarti’s car, and saw she was sitting there, so I gathered my equipment and started towards her. She saw me coming, and walked over. I told her that I thought I had been detecting long enough, to which she gave me a quizzical look. It was then that I held out my closed hand, she open hers, into which I dropped to her surprise, the pendant and chain. She was so happy, and relieved to have this special piece of jewelry back. I was so happy to have been able to help her today.

Wedding Ring Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I woke up this morning and checked my email. I found that I had received an email from Clemens about his wedding ring that he had lost the night before. I asked if he would call me so I could ask him about the loss. He called and described what had happened, and everything seemed to be in his favor, so I told him I would meet him at the beach as soon as I finished my breakfast. Clemens and his family are here from Vienna, Austria, and I knew it would be sad to have to leave such a cherished possession behind when he had to go home.

When I got to the beach Clemens and his young son met me and took me to the spot of the loss. He explained what happened, and I figured there was a good chance of a recovery. I began my grid, and made about 5 passes. I stopped to talk to Clemens when behind me I heard the sound of a tractor. It was the County beach cleaner towing a sifting machine behind the tractor, and he was stopped wanting to begin his pass right where I was looking for Clemens’ ring. Also this was in the wet sand where they never usually clean. Now in all of the years I have been helping people, never have I experienced the greedy audacity of the County employees like today, he knew what I was looking for. This guy wanted to get this ring before I did. I told Clemens not to move and make the County guy go around the area we searching, which he finally did. I made 2 more passes, and boom, Clemens’ ring in my scoop. He was very happy, as was I to be able to hand the ring back to him. Another great day!

Bob called me after finding my name in TheRingFinder website. He was attempting to rent or buy a metal detector to find his wife’s diamond wedding ring. His wife, Erin had been enjoying the day at Fisherman’s Cove with her friend. Taking off her rings and placing them in the cup holder of her beach chair while applying sunscreen. Not remembering that the rings were there, she picked up the chair and walked up to the house 100 yards away. That was when she realized what she had done.. Erin and her friend Melissa spent a couple hours sifting through the sand and were able to find one ring.
It was getting dark and the tide was rising. When I arrived. She was pretty sure that it was in the sand or possibly on the footpath to the house.. I took care of the sandy area nearest the water first trying not to hurry as that could cause me to miss the ring.. 15 minutes later I got that white gold tone and scooped up Erin’s beautiful ring.
Bob was elated, he got on the phone to call his wife with the good news. He told me she was so upset about loss that she had to stay home.. The phone call was well taken.. It was a awesome search. Bob called, text me the address, we both arrived at the location at the same time and after a few questions started the search and within a few minutes scooped up the ring.. I love to see  smiles like Bob has in this photo.. Another special moment to share with people I could help find something that means so much to them.

Lost Ring in Sand Playing Football .. Newport Beach, CA.

The sun was setting when I received a call from Gary’s wife. They had been visiting friends who live on the beachfront in Newport Beach. She told me that her husband had lost his wedding ring in the sand.
When I got the call, I was detecting in Laguna Beach. It took me about 15 minutes to get back to my vehicle and another 30 minutes to drive the 13 miles to their location.
Gary was there to explain how he had been playing football, when one of the kids grabbed his hand, pulling the ring off into the sand. The area was only 30×40 ft. square. Should have been an easy search, but after cross gridding three times. It was not looking good.
Gary walked up to me, saying he had to leave. I knew that the ring was not in the location that he had laid out. Asking him where else he had been, he pointed off to the right of the place where he thought it got pulled off his finger. It was getting cold but I would not leave till I covered the whole playing area.
I started a new grid pattern at the far side of the field. Two passes, then the magic sound of a gold ring in my ear phones proved to be the missing ring. Everybody was still in the house saying their good-byes, when I walked up to the house to give them the good news.
This was a classic search. Everybody was so positive that the ring had come off after his hand was grabbed. Actually it had fallen off more than 50 feet from that event. It’s my experience that kept me searching, when they had given up hope that I could find it. Again, I was still as surprised as they were.
A very nice family and you can see the smile on Gary’s face showing he was happy to have his ring recovered. He did apologize for putting me in the wrong place. I assured him this happens often, it’s part of the challenge.

Lost Ring in Sand .. Huntington State Beach, CA. .. Found

Friday Brittany and her friend spent her birthday at the beach. Her friend picked up a beach blanket not knowing she had laid her ring on the blanket. Ring in the sand, the search was on. It was a nice size silver ring that should be easy to find. Beach sand shows no mercy for people that lose their rings in the sand. After spending several hours sifting through the sand in a small area. They gave up returning home.
Brittany thought that another friend who owned a metal detector could help her, but she couldn’t contact him. Next she went to Google that was how she found TheRingFinders.com . Finding my information, she called me. She told me this was a ring that she had for more than 13 years. Loosing her ring on her birthday did not make it a happy day. I could hear desperation in her voice. When she told me that it was next to lifeguard tower #7 at Huntington Beach, I went into panic mode. Then told her I would get there as soon as possible. She could not meet me until an hour later, but I could start. This beach is heavily hunted by other detectorists and the beach cleaning machines are the ruthless.
It’s the first day of Labor Day weekend and I was able to cover the area thoroughly before Brittany arrived..” No Ring “.. My phone rang, it was Brittany saying she was walking over to meet me. I looked for somebody with a maroon shirt walking my way. No lady in a maroon shirt in sight.. Here’s the lesson, I live here,  I know there are two lifeguard towers # 7.. One is on Huntington State Beach. The other is at Huntington City Beach. They are both south of Huntington Pier more than a mile apart. When she said Huntington Beach, so I assumed City beach.
This should have been a short story because when I drove to the correct tower #7. She was protecting the area. So it was a matter of a few minutes we had the ring. Unbelievable she told me. Another awesome smile with genuine gratitude for having here ring returned. Sometimes we say this is a game of inches. Today it was a game of more than a mile.. Just last week a State Lifeguard told me they often have this confusion with the tower numbers. For me, it was a lesson learned.

Wedding Ring Lost on the Beach at Huntington Beach, CA…Found.

I was sitting at my computer last night when at about 10:30 PM I received a text from Bram, first apologizing for contacting me so late, and then asking for help finding his ring that had been lost earlier in the day. I called him immediately to discuss what had happened, and when he told me, with an air of desperation in his voice, I realized action needed to be taken right away. The beach he lost his ring on is a beach that is cleaned so well by the city, that it is a wonder that anything might be found on it by a metal detectorist. They use mechanical rakes, sifters, and even a disc to turn the sand to bring up things that might have moved too far down for the sifters to pick up. I told him if he wanted to meet me, I would be there in about an hour.

Bram was initially worried, and for good reason, about the 10:00 PM curfew on the beach, but I told him we should try, and if the officers approach us just to explain why we were there, and then leave it up to them to decide what to do. I met him at about 11:30 PM, and as we were getting ready to walk out to the area the city police were kicking people off of the beach right in front of us. Well we went onto the beach as soon as the police left, and were warned by the people who were kicked off that the police would be back.

He told me how he had taken off the ring to give to his wife for safekeeping, so she put it in her shorts pocket. She at sometime took the shorts off, and they got shaken around where they suspected the ring was lost. We got to the area of the search, and Bram tried to remember the exact area, but it was difficult in the dark, and so much time had elapsed from the time of the loss, about 12 hours. I began my search, digging up a lot of foil, a few pennies, but no ring. I got hits on some quarters and dimes, but did not dig them because I wanted to get a good search in, and I was looking for a gold ring which would sound a whole lot different, also I was worried that the police would come back and I wanted to make the best use of the time we had. Bram then got on the phone to his wife to make sure we were in the right area, and she directed him to an area about 60 feet South of where we were searching. All the while the police were going up and down the beach with lights on telling people to leave.

We moved to the new location, and I began a new grid, and continued to find foil and pennies, and got hits on more quarters and dimes. After about 20 minutes, I heard that sound I was looking for, an almost musical tone. I dug it, and in my scoop I could feel a ring in the darkness. I turned on my headlamp, and saw that I had found what we were looking for. I showed Bram, and he seemed so relieved. He said his wife would be very relieved, and I figured she was probably feeling very bad because she was the last one to have the ring in her possession, and probably took all the weight of the loss on her shoulders. It was now about 1:00 AM, and in an hour and a half on the beach, the police never approached us to tell us to leave, an act of kindness, or divine intervention, either way I was happy to have found the ring. I was so happy to return the symbol of Bram and his wife’s unity, a ring they probably thought was lost forever, and to see his smile. I slept well when I got back, and I know they did also.

Bram’s wife sent the following email to include in this blog:

Dear Mr. Smith,

This is Maureen, Bram’s wife. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for your help.
I really wished I was there last night to look for the ring and give you a big hug to thank you when you found it.
When Bram asked about his ring at dinner, I was shocked and had totally forgot about it. We rushed back to hotel room and found no ring in my short pocket. My heart sank looking around that small pocket and the bag where he put the short, and I was just crying.
Bram went to the beach around 9:30 looking for it while I have to get kids ready to bed and put them to bed. Knowing its lost on the beach I thought it’s lost forever. When he told me about you and he’s going to meet you, I didn’t want to put my hopes to high, I didn’t even want to read your blog knowing that would bring my hopes high. I kept telling myself to accept it and try to move on.
When Bram and you were on the beach, I decided to read your blog, what you did and do is amazing. I kept praying that God’s will to be done, whether it to be found or give me peace in my heart if it isn’t found. The time you made and all the effort, patience, and skills is the extension of God’s hand.
The ring is just material thing but the value and vow and commitment put into it made it irreplaceable. That ring is custom ordered because I want it look just like my parents wedding band.
I really appreciate the time, patience, and passion. I am forever grateful.
