Unusual Engagement Ring Lost In Hyannis, MA, Found and Returned By Rick Browne

Fourth of July was over, but not the need for some help in finding an heirloom stone in a personally designed engagement ring. Ken put it in words that I could not match, so please read on.

“My wife Annie’s engagement ring was lost after we went in the ocean to throw a football around after the extremely hot Fourth of July fun run in Hyannis Port. We only noticed a few hours later, and Annie was distraught.
Other background information: I proposed to Annie with the ring on a beach in southern England four years ago, and we got married three years ago in Hyannis Port. We live in London, but come to the Cape every year. 
It’s not your usual engagement ring – the sapphire stone was from Annie’s mom’s engagement ring, and it was passed onto me. We then designed the ring together in London, adding two diamonds alongside.”

My drive down a one lane road and wedging into a parking space were challenging. Annie, Ken and Margie met me, showed me to their private beach with two lines drawn on the sandy slope and told me the particulars of the loss. I then drew my markers about one quarter of the distance in from each of the original marks. And started a perpendicular pattern.

I heard a very deep signal and having been told of a class ring, lost about 20 years ago, I had to dig it. It was neither of the ring but rather a melted aluminum can. I kept on detecting and by the sound of the next signal in my headphone I knew I had a ring, Yes, a ring but one that I have never seen the likes of for an engagement ring. I had to go to Ken and ask if it was the engagement ring. Silly me for not asking what it looked like in the first place, before starting to search. I’ll have to remember that for future searches. Yes, it was the ring. I am so pleased I could live up to Ken’s expectations of performance.

Lost Wallet with Credit Cards and Drivers License Returned, Cape Cod,Harwich, Yarmouth, Hyannis,Falmouth,

While out in the waters of Cape Cod, I found a wallet that was a surprise to see in my scoop. It had a metal card to Apple inside. A license, and many credit cards. When Rick and I got home, the very first thing we did, was to check for a match on Facebook. It triggered a fast response from Beth, the owner, as I talked with her about how, when, and where she lost her wallet, I knew I had to get it back ASAP. We asked if she was still on Cape Cod, she replied no, that she had gone home last week.

This is her statement about how she thinks it was lost.As we got out of the car we entered the beach area and made a hard right. We kept walking till we saw a sign saying Private Beach Area. We turned around, I was picking up seashells along the way close to the waters edge. When we got back to the beach where we entered, we made the obligatory Sun Appreciation spot halfway up on the dunes. I changed out of my shorts, that I thought had my wallet. We were there about 45 minutes, packed up,and walked to the jetty and then back to the car. My wallet must have fell out of my pocket as I reached for the shells. It was very windy, and the waves crashing didn’t help. We never heard it fall.We searched high and low multiple times for the next day or so. Car,Beach,Path, Sand, Nothing.

I was so happy that I found it and reunited it with Beth, Credit cards,License,Vac Card,all home where it belongs. Be safe and Congratulations on your return.Sincerely Leighton2022-09-06 11.57.17 copy

Bright Ice in the Frozen Land of Cape Cod; How to Find a Ring in Snow Piles

Having been frozen out of the ocean by cold temperatures, high winds, and blizzards, I welcomed the challenge to find a lost engagement ring.

When I arrived at the Preschool location, I was intimidated by the seven foot high piles of snow and did not know exactly where to start my search. I was about an hour early. So I started the search correcting my equipment for the railings and re-bar in the walkways and concrete benches. The first hour yielded only one L.L.Bean button and a few pieces of tinfoil.

The school janitor came out to see what I was doing. It was good luck for me as he had searched for the ring two days previously. When he searched, there was two inches less snow that had fallen and been removed from the walkways. He told me where the wedding band was found, about ten feet from were I was searching at the time.

Lesley showed up right on time and told the same story so I knew I was in the correct area. After moving what felt like a ton of snow and detecting each shovel full I started detecting in harder to reach area and moving more snow. While reaching over a railing, I was shoveling snow from a five foot high snow pile that was between two pillars only 10 inched apart, an area too small to swing my detector.

I was detecting the third pile of removed snow and heard my detector sing out the sweet note of gold. I moved the pile a bit and saw the ring with its diamond sparking amongst the frozen ice crystals.

The rest is history: My first 2015 Ring Return search ended with Smiles and hugs all around and a Thank You card that I will cherish for years to come.
