Yesterday afternoon, I received a frantic call from Jenny, her voice trembling as she described losing not one, but five precious rings at Carpinteria State Beach. She’d tucked them into her beach bag before a swim, only to discover they were gone when she got home. As Dave MacDonald, your trusted Carpinteria Ringfinder and Santa Barbara Ringfinder, I knew time was critical. I grabbed my Equinox 900 metal detector and headed out to reunite Jenny with her treasures.
Jenny shared photos of her beach spot, which became our starting point. At first, our search through the dry sand turned up nothing but trash. Undeterred, I suggested a closer look at her pictures. Using my phone camera, we compared the images to the landscape, realizing we’d misjudged the location. With this new insight, we shifted our focus—a key move for any lost ring Carpinteria recovery.
Minutes after adjusting our search area, the Equinox 900 lit up with signals. In a small patch of sand, the first ring emerged, followed by the rest—one by one, like buried treasure. Within moments, all five of Jenny’s rings were back in her hands, her relief palpable. Silver Celtic Ring found in Oconto farmhouse yard

What was lost, has been found!

I forgot to post this one, so apologize for the delay!     Cousin Jeanie lost her Celtic silver ring in our aunt’s front yard the previous year while she was visiting and playing with her collie.     Working from the porch to the driveway, then further and further into the lawn, after about 30 minutes,  I finally heard a ring signal loud and clear!   The ring had  sunk barely beneath the surface, showing a slightly round indentation barely visible to the naked eye.  I scooped it out with the tip of my Italian steel digger, and it was back on her finger in no time!

Ring set recovered in Oconto County Lake

My fellow Ring Finder friend, Jeff Wettstein received a voicemail on Tuesday, August 22nd, about 9:45 PM
from Judy sharing that her mother lost her wedding ring in the water by her lake home in Oconto County.

He called her that evening to learn the specifics like how was lost, where it was lost, asking
“Are you sure she lost the ring in the lake?…etc. Judy’s mother is 95 years young and still swims in the
lake with a pool noodle and does have some memory loss. Jeff learned that Judy’s brother from Virginia
was visiting and had been with their mother during the time she was swimming. He also learned the ring
was lost the last week of July…about 3 weeks before Jeff received the call to see if he would be willing to
do the recovery. Jeff was sent a picture of the ring.  It turned out to be a two-ring set, wedding and engagement, soldered together, worn since 1955, which made it even more imperative to be found.

Jeff carefully searched the shallow area first for about 5 hours covering all he could before the water was over his head.  He  found all the usual suspects of junk, a few coins, and a mood ring.    Jeff received more details from Judy’s brother on the path where “Mom” swam. He mentioned to Judy that he would come back another day and would dive for it.

Jeff then reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to participate in diving for the ring since it was not in shallow water.  Jeff has a hookah pump and 60-foot hoses, so we don’t need SCUBA tanks, though we are both certified divers. The regulators and buoyancy compensator (bc) vests are the same as SCUBA, as well as the masks and weights.  One person must stay “up top” to make sure the compressor is operating and the air hose is guarded from curious boaters and jet skiers.

 (They should stay 100′ away, but they don’t always.)I let air out of my vest, but couldn’t go down. It turned out I needed 18 pounds of lead to sink, and I used to need 12, which means I’m fatter, or maybe it was the extra neoprene vest. So, a few more lead shot bags tucked into my bc pockets, and I was ready to work!
We sank a search grid and covered her path, moving the grid after each full sweep. She had swum from their dock to their swimming raft to clean the cobwebs off of it. maybe 60 feet or so.

The water was between 8 and 10 feet deep, and I was submerged at least two hours. I liked it down there, but was searching blind because the silt billowed up. It was all by feel and sound. I followed the white grid pvc pipe with one hand and pressed a metal detecting coil into the lake bed with the other, waving it back and forth. There weren’t many signals, but you have be thorough. After a few false alarms, a nail and a few cans, I heard a signal near the raft and started feeling for it in the silt with my fingers. The signal kept sinking through the pudding, then slowed it’s decent

when it hit thicker layers of mud. I lost it twice, then it stabilized about 18 inches deep in some cold clay. I started grabbing for it and waving handfuls of clay over my coil, hoping the signal wouldn’t sink too deep to recover. Finally, my fist beeped, so I knew something was in there, and it felt like a ring set. I finned to the surface to examine the object in the sun, and there it was! Jeff presented it to the family. Everyone was smiling, so our day was made!

Massive 3+ Karat Diamond Ring lost in Alpine, Utah- Found

On Saturday, I was heading to run some errands with my 2 year old when I received a call regarding a lost diamond wedding ring. While babysitting a neighbor’s puppy, She went out into the yard to do some yardwork and took off her rings. After finishing, she went back to where she had put down her rings and could only find the wedding band. She went back inside to review the security camera footage and saw that the puppy had gone over to where she had put down the rings and immediately thought the puppy had swallowed the ring. In a panic she rushed the puppy over to the vet to have x-rays done. When the x-rays came back negative, she searched all night around the backyard for the ring but was unsuccessful. She even borrowed a metal detector from a neighbor but still no sign of the ring.

Since I typically have my detector in the car for situations like this one, I quickly drove over there to see if I could help. I met her and her sister and went over the area of where potentially it was lost. They were so kind to bring out some toys and watch over my son while I detected the grass. Fortunately, It took only about 10 minutes to locate the beautiful 3 Karat diamond ring. As you can see by the video below, everyone was very happy! Enjoy!

I got a call from a young man who was trying to help his friend find his lost ring, that was lost in Alouette lake in Maple Ridge. This young man found me on Reddit, he contacted his friend and got him to call me asking my typical questions we sit out to beautiful Alouette lake to find his lost wedding band of only five months.

Some of these searches candy, very difficult, specially if the person doesn’t know where they lost it. His thought was, it must’ve come off in the water, I met with them he put me in the area, and after an hour I was able to reunite him with his beautiful ring!

The hero in this story is his friend who found me mini hours after it was lost when he got home and started researching and found the Ring Finder’s. If it wasn’t for him this friend this ring would’ve been sitting in the lake for someone else to find.

A couple had enjoyed themselves at Gravelly Point in Arlington, Virginia up until Michelle realized that she had lost her white gold 2.5 Carat diamond engagement ring with diamonds adorning both sides of the band. After leaving the park and traveling home, Michelle noticed that her ring was missing from her finger and immediately her fiancé Erik turned their vehicle around and they headed back to the park where they had their picnic earlier that day.

Unfortunately the couple was not able to find the sentimental keepsake in the grass where Michelle had taken off the ring on their picnic blanket to apply sunscreen lotion to her skin. The two of them were devastated. They eventually looked online for metal detecting help and there they found the elite international metal detectorist directory called THE RING FINDERS. They found me on the website and later the next day I traveled out to the search site to help the distressed couple.

I was so happy to help Michelle and Erik find their lost white gold engagement ring. A young teenager named Aadya was gifted a pair of expensive diamond earrings. She wore them to school quite often. On one particular day, the young lady started playing with the earrings during school (like she always did before), but this time she took the backing off and never put it back on the post while the piece of jewelry rested in her ear. Later that night, after she visited the neighbors across the street, Aadya felt her ear and realized that the earring was gone! She and her parents were devastated. Everyone searched on the back lawn but no one could find the beautiful one carat (in total) diamond stud earring.

Sometime the next day, the distraught teenager’s mother, Divya, found me online because she was thinking of renting a metal detector from my company called METAL DETECTING ADVENTURES INC. I explained to the woman that there was no way the family was going to be able to find that small piece of jewelry without my assistance. They needed professional metal detecting experience and technology.

As it turned out, Aadya and her family hired me to search for the lost sentimental keepsake. I came out during night time, laid my gridlines down on the backyard lawn of the neighbor’s house, started up my detecting gear and began the “investigation”. Everyone was hoping that the earring was in fact lost in the backyard and not on the school bus or on the street somewhere. I am happy to share that I was in fact able to recover Aadya’s beautiful diamond earring! Everyone couldn’t believe it when I surprised the teenager, her friends and all of the family that had gathered out on the deck in the backyard that night!

I could not have been more happy for Aadya and her family! I love what us detectorists can do to help bring back special keepsakes that can never be replaced with a new one from the jewelry store!

Ring lost in San Diego found

While toweling off at the beach, one of  Gokul’s diamond stud gold earrings was snagged, popped off, and into the soft sand it went. Try as he might, he just couldn’t find it. He searched online for help, found TheRingFinders.com, and called me the next morning asking if I was available to search. Sure, I was available, but, Gokul decided to personally try again with a small sieve to sift the sand in the search area for his earring, and would call me back if he still needed help. An hour and half later, I got the call. I grabbed my gear, stopped and picked up my buddy Dave and headed to the site. We found Gokul at the search area and got the story on the loss. He had a match to the lost earring, so, Dave and I at least had something to go by. Wow, not much of signal on this little earring. As I started my search, I immediately got a decent signal which turned out to be the earring back. Ok, that’s a good sign that we’re in the right area. Shortly after, Dave got an iffy but repeatable signal and turned it over to me since I had the pin pointer. After chasing the signal a bit, I finally zeroed in on the signal. Success!  A happy Gokul could now head home with both his ear lobes complete. A pleasure to meet you and thanks for the reward.

Lost wedding ring in the sand, Holgate NJ, LBI, recovered by, Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

I received a call from Bill about his wedding ring lost in the sand down in Holgate, on LBI. He was on the beach early that day with his wife, and decided to leave due to the fact the wind was blowing about 30 knots, which made it very unpleasant. They have been married for 44 years, so this ring was extremely sentimental needless to say.  We arranged to meet later that day where he was staying at Hurleys in Holgate. Bill had explained every detail leading up to the ring being lost, as we walked up. The beach is extremely narrow in this area, and he was fairly certain where he was set up, especially with flags and a lifeguard chair right where they were. I searched the first spot and the ring wasn’t there. We tried another spot and nothing again. This isn’t a spot where someone would get confused as to the location, which had us both totally bewildered. Then I searched the steep path back to the hotel, and nothing again. We checked the road, parking lot and trunk of his car again. His wife had came down, looking very sad, figuring this precious keepsake was gone forever. Bill kinda wanted to through in the towel at that point when I decided to have his wife show me the location, just to get a different perspective on things. Her spot was exactly where Bill showed me, so back down I went, searching one more time. Bill had placed the ring on his pinky, so I knew it was somewhere, and most likely on his path back. With the wind blowing so hard from the NE, I swung the coil up onto the dune slope every path this time, and BINGO!!!! There it was on about the 4th pass. Everybody was pretty much in shock at this point, which was over an hour into the hunt.  Bill had came over looking into my scoop in total amazement. What happened was, the strong blowing wind pushed lots of sand onto the dunes, making a flat area hours prior, where he had walked, into the new slope of the dunes. Bill KNEW for sure it slipped off his finger, and I knew I wasn’t leaving till it was found.

14K Gold Heirloom Ring lost at UC Campus…FOUND!!!!

It was late afternoon Saturday that I received a message regarding a lost 14K gold ring lost on the UC Berkeley campus.  At my earliest convenience I contacted Mike back to get the scoop.  He had already found a metal detector to purchase and was on his way back to the scene of the missing ring.  I was happy to give him a few pointers on metal detecting and bid him well wishes.  I told him to let me know if he wasn’t successful and I could head that direction either that evening, or early the next afternoon.

Later that evening I got another text regarding the missing ring.  A request was made for a search the following day.  To this end, I was glad to assist.

The following morning I had T-ball with two of my boys, but afterwards we picked up some snacks and headed to Berkeley for a treasure hunt, picnic, and some romping around the park.  We met Michael and he briefed me on the events leading up to the missing ring.

While taking a break from his Masters degree he met up at the park with friends for a meal.  Mike had removed the ring to clean his hands and rested the ring on his leg.  Moments later, he got up and the ring dropped away into the tall grass.  After having no success with friends locating the ring, another friend located THERINGFINDERS.COM website and hence my contact information.  His back up plan was to locate a metal detector for sale and come back to find the ring himself.  He was fast to find one and was back searching quickly.  He admitted that nerves and frustration set in quickly with all the nobs and noises the machine was making, as well as not quickly locating the ring.

I gave him 4 cones to define the perimeter of the search zone which was quiet small and we got started with the grid search. I can attest that the ground was quite noisy with targets.  I informed him that the ring would indeed be on the surface and ring in between 14 and 20 on my Equinox.

Less than 5 minutes into our search I got a beautiful signal that came up as an 18 VDI.  I told Michael we had his ring before we ever set eyes on it, an sure enough…”we made the recovery!”

Mike gave me a huge hug and was extremely relieved to have the ring back.  Thank you Mike, it was a great way to spend my afternoon and I wish you all the best in your future.

The boys and I stayed on and picnicked in the park and climbed some trees… It was a beautiful day!
