I was contacted by Dustin after he lost his ring. Dustin said his ring came off after tossing some muck from the pool skimmer over the railing behind his pool. He remembered hearing a sound like the ring hit the concrete. There were a few small trees and lots of underbrush to cover the ring. After I was shown the area I went to work working in sections. Almost 5 minutes later I found the ring.
Got a call from Zach asking if I could help find a lost ring? I got the details of when, where and how. I grabbed my Equinox 800 and hit the road. He sent me the address for 14th Ave North, and for whatever reason I went to 14th Ave South. After realizing my error, I turned around and headed north. I called Zach and told him I’d be there in about 8 minutes. Zach told me his friend was waiting near the beach entrance to bring me out on the beach. When I got close, I saw a young man standing on the corner. I pulled over and ask if he was the guy waiting on me, he was. As we walked out on the beach he told me his name was Sean and he was the one who lost the ring. I asked him to tell me what happen. He said they were here for a bachelor party and had been throwing a football around. He said he dived to catch the ball and his hands went in the sand. He also said he didn’t realize his ring was gone until a little later.
As we arrived at the group of guys enjoying the beautiful day, I introduced myself. Sean showed me an area that had stakes at each corner, maybe 20×20 ft. I asked him where he thought he made the dive to catch the ball and he responded about in the middle. I asked what kind of ring and he replied Tungsten. So I knew I was looking for a VDI (visual display indicator) around 16. I turned my machine on, looked at Sean and said “How bout we get that ring back on your finger in less than a minute.” Sean just looked at me. I started at the middle end line, took about 10 steps and got the 16 I was looking for. I took a scoop of sand, shook out the scoop and saw a Tungsten ring in the bottom. I walked back towards Sean and asked him what his ring looked like. He described it to a T! He then made the comment, “that was less than a minute.” Sean was a very happy and thankful young man.

Steve and his friends were in Ocean City, NJ when he lost his wedding band during a beach volleyball match. It got knocked off his finger after he hit an incoming ball, and he was not sure where it landed. He called me and I met him a little while later to start the search. I started in the area where he stood during the game and worked back and forth in the sand court. The ring rang up on the opposite side of the net and the group was able to go back to enjoying their time at the shore in Ocean City, NJ.

I had a call from a client who was from Indiana and told me he lost his Gold Meteorite Wedding Band in the grass near a park in St. Augustine, Fl. He had the general idea of the area he lost it, but informed me it was 25 days ago. I told him I would be glad to respond to the area but would be limited since St. Augustine is the oldest city in America and digging is not permitted. I was there less than 10 minutes before being approached and notified that metal detecting and digging is prohibited. I told the authorities about the wedding ring that was lost by my client and showed them a picture of what the ring looked like. I told them I did not have any digging tools and would only use my vibrating probe in attempt to locate the ring in the grass. They allowed me to continue my search as long as I did not dig or remove any other items besides trash. Shortly after starting the lawn mower to get the grass cut, I got a call from William asking if I could help find his lost wedding band. I asked the normal questions and learned he had lost the ring the day before in White Lake. I don’t scuba dive, but have a son-in-law that’s helped me before and does, so I asked him how deep. He explained that he was sitting on the pier/boat dock fiddling with his ring when his son jumped on him. That action sent the ring flying, hitting the dock and disappearing into the water. He told me the water around the dock was about two feet deep, and the clearance under the dock was about an 8-10 inches. I asked a few more questions and asked him to send me the address. I plugged the address in my phone and told him I’d be there about 1 pm (just about an hour and a half drive). I grabbed my detector and headed out.
When I arrived at his house, he was outside waiting and we drove down to the dock. Conditions were as near perfect as they could be, with the exception of the water being a little cold. I made my way out in the water and along the side of the pier. When I got to the suspected area, I started swinging my detector. Being a Man’s Platinum wedding band, I was expecting a 12 on the machine’s VDI (visual display indicator). My first target rang up as an 18, so I made another swing and hit a solid 12. Bingo! I used my beach sand scoop and pulled his ring out of the sandy bottom. I laid the scoop on the dock and asked if it that was his ring inside. When his face lit up, I knew we had it. The responses from returning a lost ring are priceless!

We got a call this afternoon to go find a lost wedding ring lost while playing in a large sand lot. We finally found it after covering the whole area for a couple of hours. The sand lot was a playground below a restaurant on Lake Lanier. The manager came out and told me after a couple of hours that the staff rake the lot every morning and pull the sand back towards the sides of the lot. We started going around the sides from where it came off his finger and after about a minute, we found it hiding on the side of the lot where it was pulled back by the staff raking that morning. Note to self always ask the staff or manager 
how playground sand lots are raked and how often. 🙂

Just before noon on Saturday (April 29th, 2023), I received a text message from Emily stating that she had lost both her 14k yellow gold engagement ring and wedding band by a grassy hill outside of a hotel in Florence, Alabama. Emily said she lost them the night before and that she and her husband, Mannon, had already tried searching with a cheap metal detector they bought from a local sporting goods store. They were leaving the next day to head home to Mobile, AL, which was about 370 miles south! Emily said that they were desperate to get the rings back. I had just gotten home from running some errands and was free the rest of the day. I told Emily that I would grab my gear and be on the way.
It was about an hour and 10-minute drive to the hotel Emily and Mannon were staying at in Florence, AL. When I arrived, Mannon showed me the area they thought the rings were lost in. There were a few holly bushes with those prickly leaves that the rings could have landed in, but I was going to save those until the end lol.
I turned on my Minelab Equinox 800 with the 15-inch coil and got to work. I found various trash targets in the lady’s gold range, but no rings. I cleared the main area up to the top of the hill and began expanding my grid outwards. About 30 minutes in, I had another good signal on my Nox 800, I bent down to check it with my Garret ProPointer AT, and found Emily’s gold wedding band hiding just beneath the grass! Emily and Mannon came over and were so excited that one of the rings was located. I said that the engagement ring was probably nearby. I glanced around and spotted it laying on the surface in plain view about 8 feet away! Emily and Mannon were so relived and thankful that both rings were found! They could now make the trip back home without leaving these symbols of love behind. The reason why I love being a Ring Finder! We chatted for a few minutes and then I was on my way back to Huntsville.

I was called out by a woman who lost her earring in the thick grass and clover at the Marina Green in San Francisco. She gave me the approximate area that she believed it was lost in. Using landmarks to walk a grid it took about an hour to locate, which considering the size of the area, was quicker than I thought it might be. She was very happy. Her hands were shaking as she tried to pay me my call-out fee and a generous finder’s reward. It was a nice end to the day. Always a pleasure to reunite folks with their precious items – usually more sentimentally than monetarily.

A physiological response to real or perceived threats and stressors is that the body increases electrical activity in the brain and produces adrenaline and cortisol. This is a basic fight or flight response. Memory loss can also result if that process occurs when fear or anxiety is excessive and (or) persistent.
This seems to have been the case in a number of searches I have been called upon to perform. Individuals state with absolute certainty that this is where or what they had done with their ring(s) only to later realize that what they perceived to be fact was incorrect. The stress and anxiety of loosing such a valuable and cherished item can cloud the memory of what actually took place.
This was not the case with Caeti! She contacted me after misplacing 3 of her 4 rings during a trip to the nail salon including her beautiful wedding band with 7 diamonds. She goes on to explain that she placed all 4 rings into a sunglasses case and then into her purse during the trip. Once her nails were done, she returned to the car and opened the case to put her sunglasses on for the short return trip home. Once home, she went to put her sunglasses away in the case and retrieve her rings. Remember that physiologic response I babbled about above, that is where this kicks in. Upon opening the sunglasses case, only her engagement ring was found. The other three rings seemingly vanished and panic set in as she retraced her steps all the way back to the nail salon. A search of the salon and the parking lot produced nothing. A search of the vehicle produced nothing. The driveway, the house, the purse…all nothing!
The next afternoon I joined the investigation into the missing three rings. I went to the salon and spoke with them, I searched the parking lot, talked to other businesses in the same shopping center, all with no results. I then made my way to see Caeti. She was clearly upset about the loss and resolute in the fact that the rings were indeed placed into the sunglasses case. As I prepared to search her vehicle I recommended a look at the purse and sunglasses case. She promptly produced both and as I looked down into the sunglasses case I also saw the tiniest of gold peaking out. All three rings had slipped behind the satiny lining inside the case cloaking themselves from vision. We had made the recovery!!!
In Caeti’s case the stress and anxiety did not cloud her memory of the events in the least, rather the shock of not initially finding the ring within the glasses case derailed her from what she already knew. The rings were indeed placed into the case and there they remained.
I’m very much excited that I was able to help locate these (3) rings and get them back into (or onto) the hands to which they belonged. Caeti, I wish you and your new family a very exciting future and am glad that your tale of woe has transformed into a funny story about that one time…
