This had to be one of my craziest searches, in fact I even wonder today why I just didn’t walk away from it when I got there. I received a call from Alexis asking if I could come and help her find her ring she lost in the bushes the day before. I let her know I could, and we arranged a time for me to be there.

I arrived, and found my parking further down the street from Alexis’ house. I sent her a text to let her know I was there, and walked over to the house. As I was heading over I saw a man come out of the house, and start working on a car a couple doors down. I stopped in front of the house, sent another text, and waited. Not long after Alexis came out with a small dog, and I waved to let her know I was who she was waiting for. She put her finger to her mouth to shush me, and pointed to the man (her husband) working on the car. It was then I began to rethink being there. I realized she did not want her husband to know that I was there to help her. She pointed to the other side of the street, and down the block to meet her there, which I did, and then she explained how she had been walking her dog, and lost the ring in the bushes not far from where her husband was working. I told her I would search the area for her, and walked over to begin. Fortunately her husband was preoccupied with what he was doing to see the two of us talking. I searched for about 30 minutes in thick ground cover, while Alexis was walking her dog up and down the street occasionally stopping to see my progress. I found the ring, and held it toward her to let her know it was found. She came right over to retrieve it, and I looked to see that her husband had gone back into the house. I have no idea what was going on between the two, and Alexis did not want her picture taken, but I do know that even police officers do not like walking into domestic disputes, as they can be very explosive. Alexis was very relieved to have her ring back, and I was relieved that nothing more came of it. It was a good recovery.

White Gold w/Blue Sapphire Engagement Ring lost in the Ocean. Found and Returned Wrightsville Beach, NC

On Friday, May 22, 2026, just after 8:30 am, I received a call from the Oak Island, NC.  Ring Finder, John Finnerin. He asked if I could take a call from a young lady, Amanda, who lost her engagement ring on Wrightsville Beach, NC. I told him I’d be glad to and we hung up. Amanda called me and explained that she had lost her ring the day before. I told her I’d be there in about an hour and 30-40 minutes. On the way, I ask for an address where we could meet and a few more details. In some of her response she stated she probably lost it around 2 or 3pm and wasn’t sure if she lost it in the water or where they were sitting. She also said that they were in the water and did go out to chest deep around 2pm. I looked at the time I’d be there and where the tide was going to be and it didn’t look promising.

When I got to the meeting area, Blaine, her fiancé was waiting at the corner to direct me to parking. We walked up the street to the beach access and I met Amanda. We walked out on the beach and over to the area they had been sitting, Blaine thought it was another 30 yards south. Looking over the situation, it was very close to high tide, and the sea breeze had picked up and blowing some pretty good size waves up on the beach. About the only thing I was going to be able to accomplish then was going to be a grid search of the beach down to the water’s edge. I did an east/west grid search and eliminated the entire beach area. At that point, I was stalling for time hoping that the sea and wind would calm down, didn’t happen! I did try and see how far I could get out in the water. Unfortunately, when a wave hit me and knocked me down, causing me to break the cuff on my detector, my day was done. I came to the conclusion that I’d have to come back and hit the morning low tide for calm seas and before the sea breeze started. I don’t remember if I told Amanda and Blaine that I was going to come back or not. This was Friday, and because of the Memorial Day weekend, I wasn’t able to get back out until Tuesday morning around 9 am. I called my good friend Burwin, who has helped me numerous times and asked him if he was up for an adventure. I don’t think he’s ever told me no.

We showed up a little after 9 am on Tuesday and I asked him to start on the east side, and I’d start on the west side, and we’d meet in the middle. Both of us were doing a north/south grid line. Since I was down a detector, I broke out my Surf PI. I haven’t used that machine in years; it just gets heavy. I was probably a quarter of the way across my area and maybe shin deep when I got a hit. I pulled out 3 scoops of heavy wet sand before I got the target out of the hole. Spread the sand out and ran the coil over the area. Boom! I saw a round object packed with sand and reached down to pick it up. I had Amanda’s ring in my hand. I cleaned it off and took 3 pictures of it. I called Amanda, who was working, and asked her what her ring looked like. I knew I had it from the description she gave me on day one.  I also sent her the 3 pictures. As she’s explaining, she stopped and said, “My Ring!” I know there were tears flowing down her cheeks, and she couldn’t talk. I love the surprise reactions, makes it all worthwhile!! I was able to make it to the Post Office and get it in the mail. She should get it Friday.

Today, Saturday I got a text message with a picture of Amanda attached. The text said, “Officially got my ring back! We’re beyond grateful for your help Jim!!”

Rosa called me for help. She had been in her local park the day before, and had taken off her wedding and engagement rings, and held them in her hand as she was walking along. Suddenly she tripped, and without realizing it opened her hand causing the rings to fly out in front of her into the tall grass. She was able to find the wedding ring, but not the engagement ring. We arranged a time to meet, and I was on my way.

When I got there Rosa walked me over to the area where she had tripped. While on our way over she told how she had searched hours, and how her husband had been out there looking until 3:00 AM. We got to the spot, and I positioned myself judging on the direction Rosa had been moving. I swung my coil once received a signal, put in my pinpointer, and had her ring, all within about 15 seconds. Rosa was flabbergasted! She could not believe after all the time she and her husband spent searching, that it could be found so quickly. Needless to say, she was very joyful.

Anthony had been out the night before sitting on a grassy hillside with his girlfriend in a Los Angeles Park when she realized her ring was missing. He called and asked if I was available to come out and do a search for him. I was, and we agreed on a time to meet there at the park.

It is a rather large park with many roads weaving through it, so it took me a while to find the exact area for the meeting. Once there Anthony met me, and showed me the hillside they were on, and had narrowed down the area considerably which helped. I began my grid search making sure to cover every inch with a slow swing of the coil. All of a sudden there were gun shots ringing out. Not one, not a few, but it sounded like a war had commenced. I looked up, and realized that the hill was overlooking the LAPD Academy firing range. Whew! It took about 30 minutes of diligent searching, and it paid off in a recovery. Anthony was very happy that he would be able to get the ring back to his girl friend.

Lew lost his wedding ring at the beach, and called for help. I was available, and let him know I would get there as quick as was possible. The ring had his wedding date engraved inside, so it meant a lot to him.

I got there and met Lew, and he took me over to the spot of the loss. He explained how the loss occurred, and I began my search. Finding trash metal items always excites the person I am searching for, yet ending in a let down when I show them a bottle cap or tin foil, but I try to calm them so they don’t lose hope, and keep plodding on in my search. It didn’t take long to find his ring, and he was pleased to have it returned.

Max lost his cross pendant in the sand at Santa Monica Beach, and was hoping I would be able to help him find it. It was already dark, but I let him know that I would do the search none the less. It meant a lot to him, so I gathered my equipment, and was on my way.

When I got there Max Showed me the area of the loss. He did not leave the area, so it was easy to be sure that the area was secure. It only took minutes to find it because he had stayed. The important thing is that I was able to get his pendant back to him. His great smile is the tell all.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring in Ponderay Lake….Found!!!!

A Memorial Day vacation for Constantine and Silvana was winding down. All the fun filled activities planned for that weekend were almost completed. However, Constantine had one last challenge to attempt. He and his buddy wanted to do a cold plunge in the frigid waters of the Ponderay lake. Gritting his teeth as the cold-water bit into his feet, Constantine stepped quickly onto his paddle board. Then Constantine paddled out into about seven feet of water. After a few encouraging words from his family, he dove into the murky green water. As Constanine kicked off the board, the board floated quickly away from him. The shock of the ice-cold water gave Constantine a boost of energy, so he swam quickly to retrieve his board. Reaching for the edge of the paddle board, the wedding ring he was wearing left his finger and sank quickly into the lake. There was a video taken of Constanine during his cold plunge experiment. This gave me the confidence I needed when I showed up to search for his lost ring. I was told that the video showed him with and without the ring. Also, I got a forewarning for the ice-cold water. So, I brought all of my cold-water gear. The first few steps into the water gripped my ankles as the water made its way into my dive boots. The rest of my suit kept out the cold fingers of the winter snow runoff water. There was a distinct L shape Constanine made, while swimming around. I started at the very end of that L and made my way to where Constanine had jumped off and then climbed back onto the board. Each passing second seemed like an eternity to Silvana as she watched me searching. Silvana was probably playing the wedding over and over in her head because they had just gotten married two months before. The new wedding ring that Constanine had just started wearing, already held a lot of memories and sentiment to the both of them. At the very moment when hope was fading as I came close to the end of the L shape, I saw a very round shape sitting in the rocks. My first attempt to pick the ring up with the scoop failed. The water was just a little too deep, because as I tried to dive down, the buoyancy of my suit shot me back up to the surface. After failing twice, I collected myself and yelled to the crowd watching, “I found It!”. Their cheers put me back into the mindset I needed. My scoop was to my left sitting motionless. I grabbed it and went at the ring again. This time the ring fell gently into my scoop. As I passed my scoop up to Constantine, the whole dock worth of people where smiling and cheering. I have had a lot of scoops full that revealed a valuable item, but none of them felt as good as a successful ring find does. It was dark already when Rahm called about his lost phone. He and some friends when running around in the sand when he noticed that his phone had come out of his coat pocket. They looked all around for it, but were unable to find it. I let him know I would leave as soon as possible to help him find it.

When I got to the beach, it was very dark, and it took me a while to find Rahm. When I finally did, he took me out to the area where they had been running, and explained what he did to possibly lose the phone. I then turned on my detector, swung about 3 times, and found his phone! He had put me almost right on top of it! It was a quick find, which made for a happy recovery.

Man’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost in the Soft Sand – Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach NC

On May 26, 2026, just before 6 pm, I received a call from Olivia about a lost ring. She said her husband Tyler had put his Tungsten wedding ring in a bag along with some towels and kid toys. Throughout the course of the day, things were removed and replaced in the bag. They suspected that at some point his ring had been accidently pulled out of the bag and fallen in the soft sand. She also said they had been sitting in the upper part of the beach and left the beach around 4 pm. This would have been right at high tide. To complicate matters, we’re in the King tide cycle, meaning excessive high and low tides. Olivia also stated that the high tide had come in and covered the upper beach, including the rental house stairs to the beach. I told her the best thing would be for me to come out around 11 pm to ensure the tide had gone back out. She agreed and we hung up. Around 7 pm, Olivia called me back concerned that I might have too late of a night. So, I asked her how about 9 pm and she agreed.

I showed up at 9 at the address she had given me. Tyler and Olivia’s uncle met me in the driveway. We walked about a block down to the beach access and out on the beach. We walked about another 30 yards east and they showed me the suspected area. Tyler confirmed his ring was silver Tungsten. I turned my Equinox 800 on, took a step and hit a solid 20 on the VDI (visual display indicator), definitely in the Tungsten ring range. I took a shallow scoop of sand, dumped it on the beach and took my foot and spread it out. With my headlamp on, I could see the outside of sand around a round object. I reached down and pulled Tyler’s ring out, turned around and handed it to him. He and Olivia’s uncle were both caugt off guard and completely surprised. We walked back to their house, enjoyed some conversation with Olivia and then I was on my way.
