Lost Platinum Diamond Wedding Ring .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

Lucia had been on the beach for the day with her husband and son. The guys were swimming when the high tide waves began to get close to their beach towels and chairs. Lucia had to quickly relocate everything by herself. After moving she looked into her purse and could see that the small plastic invisaligner case was open and empty. That was where she had put her platinum and diamond wedding ring. The invisaligner was laying on the wet sand but the ring was gone.
Her husband Frank got on his smart phone to search for metal detectors I the Newport / Balboa beach area. He found my contact information online in TheRingFinders.com website. It was less than a half hour that I was on the beach meeting them. A few minutes after Lucia pointed out where she had been, I was able to find her beautiful platinum and diamond ring. It was an easy find but if they waited one more day, it would have been in the Beach King sand cleaning machine.. I’m retired living very close to most Southern California beaches. I can usually get to any of them within an hour.
It was a pleasure meeting and helping Lucia and Frank. Also a bonus for them that their wedding ring was only hiding in the sand for less that two hours.imageimage

Lost Gold Ring .. Santa Monica, CA. .. Found under Sunbather’s Blanket

I was given a phone number of a lady named Daní by a metal detectorist in Santa Monica. The story was, this lady had dropped her ring in the sand and before she realized her loss, a family had set up there beach towels and umbrellas in the exact spot. There were words and the family was unwilling to move. The police became involved and the family said they would move when I arrived with the metal detector.
The beaches were all packed and parking was not easy. Actually the police did give me a temporary parking permit which was a bonus. Daní told me how she had set her custom made ring on the edge of her towel. She moved over about 30 ft. to get a better view of the water.
After a short time she realized what she had done. This is one of two matching rings that were custom made for Daní and her sister. They were made from their mother’s jewelry and her mother had past away just 9 months ago. Very sentimental and irreplaceable for sure.
Well, I’m not sure what happened, but the people that had set up over where the ring was lost, changed there mind about moving. In fact they said they would find the ring and keep it. The language was getting very foul and some of the other beach goers had words with the police.
Solution.. I tried to explain to the people how emotions get out of control sometimes when people lose heirlooms. They were very upset and not willing to move. I told the two police officers, that I was willing move down the beach and wait for the people to leave. I didn’t have any reason I couldn’t wait till dark, if I had to. The officers agreed that they would also leave.
I moved to the other side of the lifeguard tower while Daní and her friend got me a cup of coffee. It was less than an hour before the irate people left the beach. Daní ran over to claim the spot. I took two passes with my detector and there the ring was under about 4″ of sand. Exactly where the family had been laying.. I often say each search is unique. This was definitely one that would be hard to duplicate.. It takes more than a metal detector to have a successful search. I love this service.

Lost Diamond Engagement Ring .. Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

Toni dropped her new diamond engagement ring in the sand while doing a photo shoot celebrating Eddie’s marriage proposal that same day.
It was Friday at sunset when Eddie and Toni had been taking pictures on the beach at Wood’s Cove, Laguna Beach, CA. It’s a very pretty location, also very romantic.
They frantically searched through the sand with their fingers, then Eddie drove to a local sporting goods store 5 minutes before closing. He purchase the most expensive metal detector in stock. Returning to the beach he could not find the ring with that $200 detector.
Then his fiancé’s sister found my contact information on line, under TheRingFinders.com.
A call at 11:45 pm got me on the road for the 8 mile trip to Laguna Beach. They were there at the top of the steps and we walked 100 yards as the tide tried to chase us away. It was only a 25 x 25 square where they had felt the ring had fallen and it was well marked off.
The ring was not there, but 2 feet outside the box, Bingo!! A beautiful ring and very happy couple. I was back home within an hour. Toni, her sister and Eddie were so excited and happy to finish the day in such a positive way. What a special and unique engagement day. They will remember this day for a long time. Lost iPhone in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found next Day

When Eva’s Celphone was lost in sand the night before her friends searched several hours, she called me the next morning. She had been visiting friends that live on the beach front in Newport Beach, CA. They have a game they play on the beach throwing weighted bags into boxes that have holes in them.
Latter in the evening she couldn’t find her iPhone. Attempts to find it that evening were not successful. Eva and her friends returned in the morning but they still couldn’t find it. They found me online at TheRingFinders.com. I was only 3 miles away, but it still took longer to find a parking space than it did to find the iPhone. It was found in the area they showed me, but probably 15 to 20 feet away from where the “Find My Phone” app showed them to look. I was careful to dig with my hands, as not to damage it trying to dig it with my scoop.
Some guys don’t like to search for phones or keys because often they are picked up by someone passing by. I usually try for anything unless too large of a search area. Example would be something lost on a 5 mile jogging work out.
As many times as I have found items of value for people, it was still a special moment to retrieve this phone for Eva. Everybody was impressed at how well a metal detector works to find something in the sand. They just don’t understand that it takes a quality detector and a lot of time to learn how to operate a metal detector. If you’ve rented or bought a detector to search for a valuable item and couldn’t find it? It may still be there and recoverable by an experienced metal detector specialist

Lost Wedding Ring .. Strand Beach .. Dana Point, CA. .. Recovered

I was contacted by Jason who found me on line at TheRingFinders.com . Jason and his family had spent the day at Strand Beach which is located at Dana Point, CA. He placed his wedding band in the cup holder on his beach chair. They had picked up their chairs and walked a few hundred feet towards the car when Jason remembered the ring.
He went back to search for the ring. It had to be in the sand and could not be found by hand searching.  Jason did take a good look at the location which was a great help to me when I arrived with my metal detector.
The beach is a long walk down a steep stairway. The tide was coming in which caused us to navigate over large breakwater boulders to get to the area where they had spent the day.
Thanks to Jason for putting me on the exact location. It was a quick recovery. The ring was under about 3″ of wet sand right at the edge of the incoming tide. We had to walk about a quarter mile back to the car, but it didn’t seem that far as we talked about this service and the success of finding Jason’s ring that means so much to him..

Engagement Ring Lost in Backyard … Compton, CA. … Found in Sandy Soil

Dustin called asking me if I was available to search his back yard. His wife Candy had dropped her wedding ring set in the sandy back yard. They had actually found the smaller rose gold wedding band, but after three days the engagement ring was not to be found.
After arriving at their house, I was able to see what the search area looked like. Got real excited until I turned on my CTX 3030 metal detector. There was lots of metal trash which could mask a signal of a small rose gold ring. Small 20’x 20′ area. I did a quick grid with my stock 11″ coil with no results. I changed to a smaller 6″ coil. Many many signals, but swinging very slowly on a third grid I caught a short low tone mixed with other high tones. Looked down catching a glimpse of the band actually vertical in the sand. The diamond setting was down in the dirt. Bingo! Ring found.
It did take about an hour but Candy and Dustin were surprised and gratefully thanked me with sincerity. It was a pleasure to help them.

Lost Platinum Wedding Band … San Bernardino, CA. … Found on Soccer Field in Grass

John Volek from Houston Metal Detecting Service in Texas called me.  John , had received a call from a man in So. California that needed some help finding a ring that was possibly lost on a soccer field. John asked me if I could do a search in near San Bernardino.
. It’s about an hour away and I told him I was available. He gave me Al’s celphone number. We set up to meet Saturday so Al could get me close to the location.
We met at a local school 7am, but our first problem was the gates were locked. This was not going to stop us, so it was time to climb the 6-1/2 ft. fence.
Al lives 90 miles away and had attended a soccer coach certification class the week before. He wasn’t quite sure if his ring slipped off his finger while playing goalie. He had put on sunscreen and felt that may contributed to it slipping off his finger. He has worn the platinum wedding band for 17 years without remembering it falling off his finger.
We set up a large grid area, probably 100 ft square. The grass was very thick, I would guess 3 inches deep in most places. Good place for a ring to hide. There were other trash signals but I was confident I could pick out the platinum ID numbers. (12-17 to 12-20 on my CTX) .. I did check every signal with a 12 prefix and a depth of 4 inches. After an hour and a half getting near to the end of area we laid out. I could see Al was losing hope. Then I went down to check a 12-17 signal with my pin pointer. I put my fingers in the grass and one finger slipped right into the ring. I kept it in my hand asking Al to recheck that spot. As he checked it I pitched his ring to him. He went ballistic with joy and at the same time disbelief. It took about 20 minutes for Al to stop saying “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT”..
After thanking me thirty or forty times we got in our cars to drive home. Al drove 90 miles and I drove 70 miles. It was a fantastic day.

Lost Engagement Ring .. Corona DelMar, Newport Beach .. Found with Metal Detector in the Sand

Megan was with her son at Corona DelMar Beach. It was a large group of classmates from a local middle school. After less than an hour Megan realized that her platinum engagement ring was not on her finger. After a sleepless night she found my contact information on a internet search. She called me and we made arrangements to meet at the beach so I could hear her story and get a general location of where she thought it could be.
Megan didn’t feel the ring slip off her finger. It’s nice when somebody knows when the ring was lost but not always possible. We met at the beach and she showed me where she spent most of her time. It could have been dropped on the long walk across the beach from the parking lot. It’s a process of elimination. I would start with the area near the fire pits. Our only problem was,  the beach was loaded with people with their beach awnings, blankets, etc.
I had all the information I needed. I returned at 4 hours later and did a grid search which turned out to be successful with Megan’s beautiful ring in my scoop. Sent her a text message with a photo of the ring.

Mother Loses Ring in Tot Lot .. Long Beach, CA. .. Found with Metal Detector

Brian called me after searching in the sand for a ring that his wife had lost while pushing her son on the swings at the local tot lot. She felt the ring slip off her finger the moment it happened.
After hearing the circumstances of the loss, I told Brian we had a very good chance of finding it with a metal detector.
It was important that we meet as soon as possible. With the popularity of metal detecting as a hobby, these neighborhood tot lots get detected often, sometimes daily. Brian was there when I arrived and it only took a short time to locate the ring. Two hours total time from the first call. It probably would have taken that much time to find a place to rent a metal detector and who knows if he could have learned how to use it?
After returning the ring to Brian, I had time to detect the whole sandy play area. My suspicions were confirmed. I was only able to find one penny and a piece of tin foil. This place is definitely one that gets hit by a local detectorist. Time is sometimes the enemy, call as soon as possible, especially if lost in a public place. Another successful recovery and return by a member of TheRingFinders.com and a happy husband that was able to find me by doing a Google search. This is an exciting time when you’re just as close as your smart phone to get help with anything..

Wedding Ring Lost in Backyard .. Huntington Beach, CA. .. Found

Mike emailed me in the morning after finding my contact information on TheRingFinders.com. He included his phone number which I used to reply to his request for help. After hearing his story, I explained how the metal detector works and with the information that he gave me, I should be able to find the ring..
The day before, Mike had been doing some gardening in his backyard. He actually felt his gold wedding ring fly off his finger. There were lots of dead leaves and soft soil in the area he thought it may be. He spent some time that evening searching the garden and the grass in front of the planter with no success.
We met the next day after he got home from work. Seeing the small search area I put a 6 inch coil on my CTX metal detector to begin the search. Unable to get a signal in the planter, I was about to use my pin pointer to search in the plants and against the wall. Before shutting the detector off, I passed it over the grass in front of the planter. “Boom” gold ring tone from my detector with a 12-13 ID number. The ring was well hidden in a depression in the lawn. Mike told me he had raked his fingers through the grass several times before calling me. He did call the gardener that morning telling him not to do the backyard that day, which could have been the difference of this being a successful search or a failed search. It was an easy search, but after seeing how well the ring was hidden, I doubt that it would have been recovered without a metal detector..imageimage
