I received a call from Kim & Daniela. They explained that they had spent the day at Pearl beach in Cape May Point. At some point during their visit, Danielas gold wedding ring went missing. She wasn’t sure when it was lost during their visit, but she was confident that it was at the beach as she was sure it was on her finger when they arrived earlier in the day and noticed it was gone just after leaving the beach. Daniela was concerned that it may be in the water as she had spent some time swimming as well. I met Kim & Daniela on the beach and we identified the areas they had been while visiting. I began grid searching the area where they had been sitting on the beach first. I made a few passes over the area and found Danielas ring a few inches beneath the dry sand. Tears of joy & relief were flowing! Daniela truly thought it was “gone forever” Another happy ending, another successful recovery!

I received a call from Cathy last evening. Cathy explained that she was swimming in the ocean with her family when her ring slipped off of her finger and disappeared into the chest deep surf. After gathering some location specifics and checking the tide charts, I decided to search for the ring at tonight’s low tide. The surf was pretty sporty this evening, but I began working my search patterns as accurately as possible. After about 45 minutes of searching my detector emitted a distinct low growl. After sifting several scoops of sand, Cathy’s ring appeared in the bottom my scoop. I gave Cathy the good news via text and she and her husband come down and retrieved their ring. Another happy couple another successful recovery!

I received a call from Ron. Ron explained that his granddaughter’s necklace broke while they were on the beach at Howard Street here in Cape May. His granddaughter was able to locate the broken chain however, there was a charm that was given to her by her mother that disappeared into the sand. Unfortunately, by the time she realized the chain was broken and sliding off the charm was already gone. She believed it may be in the area where they were sitting, but was not certain. I took the short ride over and met them on the beach. Once they moved their chairs and belongings out of the way, I began checking the area around the umbrella. After about a minute and a half of searching, my detector admitted a low growl commonly associated with that of a gold target . One shallow scoop later I had the charm in the scoop. She immediately began crying, and the rest of the beach began clapping. She didn’t think that it could be found given its size, but this is another true example of how even though something is small, the sentimental value attached to it means so much more than the monetary value or the size of the item. Another successful recovery, happy ending!

I received a call from Jordan. Jordan explained that she was enjoying a day at the beach with her family. Jordan decided to wade into the water but took off her rings and was in the process of handing them to her dad when they slipped from his grip and fell into the water. The rings immediately disappeared. Jordan and both of her parents began frantically searching but repeatedly came up empty-handed. That’s when a neighboring beachgoer handed Jordan one of my cards. I took the short ride over from home and met up with the family on the beach less than 15 minutes later after gathering the backstory I found Jordan‘s mother standing in the water, right where the rings dropped. I proceeded into the water and on the first swing, got a low growl tone. After a couple scoops of sand, I had Jordan‘s ring back in my scoop.  Jordan‘s mother explained that this Ring was passed down to Jordan through the family over the years, so even though it was small in size, it had a tremendous amount of sentimental value attached to it. I was contacted by Jennifer after being tagged multiple times on a social media post. Jennifer explained that her husband had taken a surfing lesson on his birthday on Queen St beach in Cape May. During the lesson, his necklace broke and he lost his late daughters memoriam charms in the surf. I chatted back and forth with Jennifer and gathered some specific details. Took a ride over and checked at low tide this morning around 6:30am. After about an hour of searching the surf I was able to recover the charms and reunite them with Phil and Jennifer. I received a message from Ken the other day. He explained that his wife was sitting with their daughter just at the edge of the water on the beach in Wildwood Crest . The pair were chatting about his wife, Shelly’s, ring which she had just had repaired and had taken it off to show to her daughter. While doing so, a larger wave rushed in and startled the pair causing the ring to be flung behind them towards the upper beach as they were facing the water when it happened. The ring landed in the shallow water and disappeared. Shelly was devastated, and the family searched for hours trying to locate the ring. Luckily, Ken, Shelly’s husband, did an excellent job noting the approximate location and took note of the time as the tide was moving in. We discussed the event a bit and decided to wait until the tide was heading back out so the water would be at a reasonable depth. I met the couple on the beach at just about dark around 9pm and began searching. About 15 minutes later I heard the signal I was searching for, 1 scoop later the ring was back on Shelly’s finger. She was elated to say the least! The couple informed me that Ken had proposed to Shelly over 40 years prior just a few blocks down beach. Another relieved & happy couple!

I was tagged by several folks in a post on Cape May Live. The poster was asking for people to keep an eye out for her husband’s gold ring that slipped off in the surf. I messaged the couple and we chatted back and forth about what exactly happened and where. She was able to outline the specific area and time of day that the loss occurred. Timing wise, I felt that the best chances would be during the low tide cycle the following morning. I took the 5 minute ride for home yesterday morning and began searching. After about 1 hour or so I got the signal I was searching for and out popped the ring from thigh deep surf. The couple confirmed the inscribed date and picked up the ring yesterday afternoon. They both thought the ring was “gone forever” after 27 years of marriage. Another happy couple!

I received a message from Genevieve Sunday afternoon explaining that she had lost her wedding ring in the sand while at the beach with her family. She had placed her ring in the cupholder of her beach chair to apply sunscreen. Later, her husband folded and relocated their belongings as the tide was moving. He had no idea that his wifes ring was in the chair when he folded the chair and once folded the ring disappeared into the sand. After the couple realized what had happened they began frantically searching for the ring. Other beach goers saw them searching and pitched in to search as well, even one of the lifeguards lent a hand! After a while, the group came up empty handed. Thats when Genevieve reached out for help. Usually I dont travel to Brigantine on Sundays as Northbound traffic can be horrendous but I could tell that Genevieve was upset and really needed some help. I took the ride up and met with the couple on 31st street beach. After a brief discussion I began searching the areas outlined by her husband. About 45 minutes later I had her ring in the scoop. Genevieve explained that the ring was so special as it contained diamonds from her grandmothers wedding ring and was very special to the couple! The entire beach was thrilled to see the ring! Another happy couple!
