Deep in the Grass – Class Ring Recovery Success
Dan reached out to me via email, wondering if I could help recover a large class ring that he believed he lost somewhere in his yard while fertilizing the grass. He explained that he had been wearing the ring on his pinky finger, which had reduced feeling due to a previous surgery. He was certain the ring was on when he started the yard work—and gone when he finished.
I assured him this was a type of search I could definitely help with, but I let him know I couldn’t commit to a specific time right away due to several other scheduled recoveries. He was understanding and agreed the ring would be safe in the yard until we could coordinate our schedules.
When I asked how he found me, he said that while he was raking the yard under the hot summer sun, his son saw him and told him, “Dad, just call Ed—the NJ Ring Finder!” So he did.
When I arrived at the property, I started my grid search in the front yard. After a few passes with no luck, I worked my way to the side yard. Just a few feet in, I got a solid, high signal—exactly the tone I listen for when searching for large class rings. I dug down into the thick, tall grass and there it was, buried right down to the dirt!
Dan happened to be inside with a refrigerator repairman, so I quietly snapped a few photos and packed up my equipment. As I was finishing up, he spotted me out front. I held up the ring, and he couldn’t believe his eyes! Dan was overjoyed to be reunited with the class ring he had worn for many, many decades.
Another happy ending—and another meaningful piece returned to its rightful owner.
