Wedding Rings Lost And Found in Garbage After Christmas Party! South Milwaukee, Wisconsin

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

A home Christmas party with friends and family is usually a fun time. So it was, for South Milwaukee hosts, Melissa and Matthew Graff. But then their joy turned to desperation when Melissa’s wedding rings went missing.

In the process of cleaning up after the party, Melissa vaguely remembered removing her rings and setting them on a kitchen shelf beside the microwave oven. The location was her usual place to put them. But when she returned the next day to put her rings back on her hand, the rings were nowhere to be found!

I received a phone call from Melissa on Monday evening and provided guidance and suggestions of places to search. We also began to establish a timeline of events as best as the couple could remember. Time, along with the trauma of losing such a precious item, has a way of blurring one’s memory.

My ability as metal detecting specialist is somewhat limited inside a home. Wiring, nails, screws, metal ductwork and pipes, make it challenging to isolate a small ring inside a house. An “estate search,” as we detectorists call it, can also be invasive. But I can assist forensically by narrowing down the possibilities.

For example, could the ring have gone down the kitchen sink? Had the garbage been taken out? Had they checked the washer and the dryer? Were pockets, clothing and shoes checked? Had they vacuumed the floor? Were there pets in the home? These and host of other questions help narrow the search areas. The couple continued looking that day without success. The next evening, Tuesday, I arranged to meet on location.

In reviewing the timeline, I asked if they knew when the last party guest left. Technology came to the rescue when a security camera at the front door logged a video and the time whenever the entry was breached. We watched as each guest left and noted the times. The last event, remarkably, recorded Melissa’s hand reaching up to the door. It clearly showed her wedding ring on her hand. And since Melissa had not left her home since then, the ring still had to be somewhere in the house.

I checked the sink drains, heat registers, under the stove and fridge. No ring. Then two large bags of garbage begged investigation. We placed a tarp out on the front lawn and emptied the first bag. I systematically scanned the contents with my metal detector but no ring surfaced. We did the same for the second bag. It was when we were just about to put everything back that Melissa’s ring suddenly appeared on the tarp amidst cookie crumbs and leftover donuts!

It was an emotional moment for sure! The garbage was scheduled for pick up the very next morning. Thankfully we had been able to search through the bags before then. As for how the rings ended up in the garbage, this will forever remain a mystery. Who knows! But Melissa and Matthew’s smiles tell the rest of this happy-ending story!

Gold Bracelet Found – Raleigh!

  • from Raleigh (North Carolina, United States)

I received a call from Luis, a local guy who had lost a gold bracelet while at work. Luis was working at a construction site and on this particular day, had been spreading hay straw on top of tall dirt piles to minimize the erosion from the rain that was expected to roll in. When I arrived at the job site and Luis showed me where he had been working and it was looking like a tough recovery. The dirt piles he had mentioned were steep, 18-20 feet tall, and because of the recent heavy rains, wet and muddy. Add to this the complication that the piles were full of construction debris:  wire, nuts and bolts, aluminum cans, etc., and covered with hay straw. Luis had bought an inexpensive metal detector and tried to find the bracelet himself, but had not had any luck. Unfortunately, because Luis and his co-workers had already tried to find the bracelet, they had walked all over the dirt piles, which had probably pushed the bracelet down into the mud.

Luis did have a matching gold necklace which I was able to scan, so at least I had a good idea what signal to look for. Luis showed me the paths that he had taken up and down the dirt piles while spreading the straw, so I started in and began making my way across in a rough grid pattern. It took probably 30  minutes to find the bracelet, which had washed down the dirt pile and was about 3 inches from being washed into a nearby water drainage ditch. The bracelet had been pushed about 1/2 inch down into the mud and wasn’t visible from the surface. Definitely a tough recovery and I felt relieved that I was able to locate and return the bracelet. Another Happy Ending!

Don’t Sweat the FALL Stuff….

…As the last of the leaves have fallen and autumn’s still callin’, there was a few more tasks Jay was eager to complete before the holidays approached. After splitting a few logs, he was left with untangling the Christmas lights and installing them throughout the yard. With darkness closing in he quickly threaded the wires through the bushes. Stepping back to take in a wider view, he turned them on and admired his work. Back inside the house he noticed his ring was missing. Terribly concerned, he spent a restless night wondering where it was. I arrived the next day, chatted with his wife and got the details of where to look for the ring while he was at work. Using my MXT metal detector I did a quick grid search around the perimeter in the grass with no luck. Scanning in closer to the bushes I got some random pieces of aluminum. Continuing along the sidewalk leading to the house I got a solid signal in the middle of two bushes. Using my pin-pointer I got a signal and reaching down the wire I pulled it from under some leaves and saw his ring over one of the Christmas lights! I was thrilled and ran to the door. When his wife opened the door, I held up the ring and as she saw it in my hand, she smiled saying how excited and relieved she was that it was found and the overwhelming thoughts of where it was had been solved. I said let’s “fall” it a day and assured her that there’s always someone and a way to solve a problem……then she said…. and today it was theringfinders!

Lost gold ring at a Christmas tree farm in Langley

I received a text message yesterday evening in regards to lost gold and diamond ring. This was a young ladies wedding band, she went on to tell me the story of the ring and how important it was to her and how sad she was that she had lost it. The good news was she was most certain it was lost at a Christmas tree farm in Langley. The story of the ring as it was a gift from her late father to give to her daughter one day, these stories always pulls at the heart strings.

We set up a time to meet in the morning, the owners were so kind to let us go in and do the search, after meeting the young couple, and hearing their story about where they believe the ring was lost and for the fact that husband pinned the location where they cut the tree down and where they believed the ring may have come off her finger ,that was such a blessing he marked the location!

Most times people forget the most important things and that’s a landmark or in this situation, pinning the location so that he could get back to it. Let’s face it there’s a lot of trees there and it would be so difficult to find the exact location which is so important when you’re looking for something that small. After a short time searching the ring was found under a Christmas tree, it was a good thing that nobody had cut that one down because they would’ve easily seen the ring laying underneath it.

So many factors play in these searches, and one is asking the right questions in order to get into the area and after listening carefully to her story there was two locations I was very interested in and I started in the one I felt I had the best chance… It only took minutes to find her ring & smile.

Lost Set of keys in Rathdrum Idaho…FOUND!!

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

I often wonder if the stories about The Ring Finders that I share with people ever stick in their memory banks. After reciving a text message about lost keys from an old co-worker, I knew that my story telling had paid off. George, the old co-worker, had been playing in the snow with his family. After a few flips and snow balls thrown, his keys went missing.  George looked and dug in the snow that day and the next morning without finding the keys. As he sat in the snow pondering how to get his keys back, he remembered a guy he had worked with that metal detected. A quick text reconnected our paths and I made my way to Idaho to find his lost keys.  After saying “hi” to George’s newborn baby girl, we both made our way up to where they were playing. The search area was where they had made foot prints and body prints in the two and a half feet of snow. I made a quick pass around the outside of the tracks without hearinga single signal. Near the middle of the tracks I got a negative signal. George started digging where I pinpointed.  He quickly uncovered his keys. Saving George three hundred dollars for the replacement cost of his car key and seeing a friend again, was well worth the trip.

Lost wedding ring in grass, Palm Coast, Florida…..Found!

Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful time to get together with your family and celebrate all the things we have to be thankful for! Tanner and his wife were enjoying a relaxing afternoon at his sisters home and decided to play a little baseball in the backyard with the nephews. They got out the baseball gloves and right away Tanner noticed that his glove fit sort of tight on his hand. After an hour or so it was time to eat and it was then that he realized his wedding ring was not on his finger. So the first place he looked was in the glove he had been wearing–and no ring! Part of the time they had used the glove as a base so they searched around the area where it was on the ground—and no ring there either! They tried raking the grass to see if they could spot it using that method and after a while they realized how hard it was going to be to find such a small item! Someone even brought out a cheaper model metal detector and it just seemed to beep all the time and left them even more frustrated.

Two days later Tanner’s sister, Hilary, went online and found “theringfinders.com” and decided to give me a call. I met Tanner and some of the family members there at Hilary’s home and they showed me the area in the back yard where they played and where most of the action took place. I set up my small flags and started doing my usual grid search, slowly going back and forth trying to cover every inch of the yard so as not to miss Tanner’s lost ring. Right away I detected various targets, mostly deeper items that were lost months or possibly years ago. I was looking for a recent drop which should be just below the blades of grass or maybe pressed into the dirt ever so slightly. Ten minutes into my search I got a choppy signal, reading 4 to 6 inches deep that really did not sound like what I was looking for. Still I had to be sure and as I parted the grass with the toe of my boot….I caught a glimpse of something black and round! Bingo!! I motioned to Tanner to come over and check out what I had found and he was super surprised and very relieved to see his lost wedding ring hiding in the grass and so close to where they all had spent so much time looking!

What an honor and privilege it was to be able to help find and return his lost ring!

January 2022 Ed reached out to me asking for assistance in searching for tossed wedding rings during a stressful situation. This is the story of the extensive efforts taken to recover three lost rings.

Hey guys, this is the Seattle Ring Hunter we’re actually out here in North Bend this morning and we’re here with Edward.  Ed will you tell us a little bit about what’s going on today and why we’re out here.

Yeah its just a desperate situation to try to look for three rings the wedding ring, the engagement ring and another nice piece of high-end jewelry ring. Just to be honest with you it was after an epic big fight disagreement you know with my wife and I should not have done this but my mind was not in the right place and then in a fit of rage I never done this before but I grabbed four rings. My personal wedding ring, and then her three rings, and then one by one I came out to the balcony and late at night in the dark I threw them out over my balcony in the deep backyard in the woods. It was snowing three feet of snow at the time and I just assumed I never would see him again you know.

Then, obviously just an hour later, and the next day, you regret what you did. I couldn’t look for it because it was all three feet of snow, so I had to wait another week for everything to melt. The first day it melted where I could have visibly I went out there about five or six or seven hours and I was able to find mine. I’m still missing three. I was out there seven hours I just had a chintzy metal detector and I not an expert. I was  kind of encouraged when I found mine but really discouraged I couldn’t find the others  that are more important. There is no way to remedy the situation with my wife and move on unless I find those. Especially the one is more important than the other two being the engagement ring as far as sentimental value. Until then I’m really really really in the doghouse. So I couldn’t find it real discouraged the next day I have off from work I was gonna come out her again and just keep doing it. We were able to find you on the internet yourself on the The Ring Finders and have so many amazing reviews in different scenarios in situation that we called you.  Now you’re here to help us out.

I am very thankful you guys were able to find the support and today guys as I said before these a stressful situation so we can maybe one to two or three calls throughout the whole throughout the month you know for people in this situation. If you find yourself in a situation, I just want to say don’t feel like we’re gonna give you a hard time or call you out on it or anything this happens we’re used to this. Everyone is human and so we we think Ed for sharing his story to maybe help encourage others out there that might find themselves in situation. You don’t necessarily have to come on camera but just to let you know we do have opportunities and capabilities to help people in the situation. With that being said the three rings, we are going to focus on that just for a second.  They are pretty substantial rings, they mean a lot to the family for the sentimental value and the whole end result of this is getting them back for the family that’s an an absolutely our priority and our focus on this. They are very nice pieces of jewelry so with that being said they’re not dainty in size we got a platinum and we got some white gold rings out there. They got the diamonds and all that you guys will hopefully be able to see that later on as we make the recovery out here. He did find his wedding band and we’re gonna do a test throw here in just a moment so we can get a trajectory on how he’s throwing. He mentioned earlier that he’s got a little bit of a issue with his arm so he shared a little bit about that so maybe they are not way back in the back fourth but it’ll be over here. This is on a private property so we know that they’re absolutely here on the property so with that very confident that we should be able to get them recovered. With that, let me go ahead and get geared up and see if we can bring all three of those rings back and turn the situation around to a better resolve.

Lost IPhone 13 pro at Indian Canyon Golf Course…FOUND!

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

After receiving a wallop of a snow storm in our town, Joren had a horrible day. He lost his phone and dislocated his shoulder while sledding in the newly fallen snow. Joren found out about The Ring Finders while looking up metal detectors. He sent me a frantic text for help.  I quickly replied, and then we spoke on the phone. Joren had the coordinates of the last known location for the phone. He sent me the link and I followed my gps to the spot. I searched up and down the hill where the pin was dropped for the location of the phone. With no luck I waited for Joren to show up. He gave me a quick run down on his movements in the snow which included hopping a fence.  So by process of elimination we hopped the fence and started searching.  The phone was not in the landing zone where we jumped over the fence. Following the path of footprints in the snow that led away from the landing zone, I got a solid 18 on the display of my detector.  Joren’s phone popped out after the second scoop. One fence hopped, equaled one phone lost, when there’s a foot of snow on the ground.

How to find my ring in the snow…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Vancouver Ring Finder Chris Turner- Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost your ring?… Metal Detecting Service/Call ASAP  Anytime   778-838-3463

It was our first big snowfall of the year and it’s not surprising to get calls soon after, I received a text message from Mike asking for help to find his platinum wedding band, I called right away to discuss the search and set up a time within the next couple of hours to meet up and help him to find his ring. Mike told me he knew the specific area where he believed he felt his ring come off his finger, in my mind I knew this could probably be a quick search, but I have been surprised in the past thinking that way and it turns out to be the exact opposite.

The roads were clear and good, and I made it there pretty quickly and met up with Mike. He showed me the exact area where he believed it could’ve come off, I turn on my machine and to both of our surprise I didn’t find the ring where he felt it would be?

As always, I expended my search, knocked off the snow from the hedge and detected underneath still no signal, I then put the machine over top of the hedge and received a nice strong signal…The Ring!!!

Murphy’s Law it’s going to be not exactly where you think it will be… I know Mike was surprised that I did not find it near the reindeer, but I also knew if it was there I would find it, it’s just a process, sometimes you can walk in and come out quickly with the recovery, other times it can take longer this search took all of maybe 20 minutes. I love what I do. It makes me so happy to see how it affects a strangers life in such a beautiful and positive way…
