I got a call from Nick the morning of the 4th of July asking for help in finding his wedding ring that he had lost the day before at the beach. Well I let him know about the County’s meticulous cleaning procedures, but told him I would meet him later in the evening to do the search because I knew the beach would be filling up in the morning and during the day, and someone might park on top of the area which could hinder a thorough search. I figured if we got there after everyone left we would have the whole area to ourselves, and I could grid to my heart’s desire.

I met Nick at the arranged spot at 10:00 PM, and he took me out to the area he had been in the day before. Right away my expectations were buoyed as looked around and realized the machines had not gone through that morning. I asked Nick to show me the boundaries of  the area they had been in, and began my search. This beach is extremely clean of metal trash, and I got very few signals. It is like a desert of metal. I got a key, a penny, and a piece of foil, but I maintained my grid, pass after pass; silence. Then after about 30 minutes a good solid sound in the head phones. I dug, and a nice silver colored platinum ring was in my scoop. I had my back to Nick at the time so I looked inside and saw there was an inscription with 2 initials with a heart between them, one of the initials being an “N”, I knew this was the ring. I turned and walked over to him with the ring in my hand. I then asked inquisitively if there were any engravings in his ring. He said there were, and told me what they were. As he was explaining to me I held out his ring in the light of my headlight, and when he saw it he was in total disbelief. He told me he had only been married for 2 months; whew! What a great ending to a great day! My bad on his picture.

Nick sent the following testimonial:

To whom It may concern, I write my client testimonial for Steve Smith of Ring Finders, who found my lost wedding ring on July 4th 2022….

I was out celebrating the Independence day weekend with my new wife of two months and friends on the beach. A beautiful day was had enjoying the wonderful weather. Only once sat at home and about to start a film did I realise my wedding band had come off my fingers. A small breakdown and copious amounts of anxiety ensued and the following morning, frantic messages to social media were posted. A kindly neighbour posted about Steve the ring finder and I called him up. Despite it being July the 4th he kindly agreed to meet that evening due to time being of the essence.
We met at 10 pm once all the fireworks had died down, and Steve got to work. He was meticulous and methodical and to my utter amazement, he found my band. Need to mention again this was all in the PITCH DARK. I was amazed, and I honestly can speak highly enough of both Steve and his work. He’s a true gentleman and very skilled. I sit here typing this testimonial with not only my ring on my finger, but a smile on my face. Steve, you legend.
– There you go!
Thanks again and I hope you have a great week
Nick

Melissa contacted me the other day about searching for her lost rings. She told me they were lost the previous day, and also the beach where they were lost at. When she mentioned the beach, and the location they had been sitting my heart sunk because this is one of the cleanest beaches in Southern California. The County uses very effective sifting machines on this beach, and is able to get almost all metal off the beach daily. She was not able to meet me there, but sent a photo of where she had been which helped a lot to show me where to search, so I left to try.

When I got there I could see that the machines had gone through that morning, and it didn’t look promising. I set up my grid area, and began. As expected, I was getting no signals, but I persisted in my search. There was a small patch about 2 feet wide between where the machine cleaned, and the wet sand that was untouched, so I made sure to be a bit more careful there. Then on one pass I got my first signal in the untouched area. I dug, and had Melissa’s wedding band; I was excited. I couple more swings, and I had the engagement ring. I couldn’t believe it, they were still there, the machine had missed them by 12 inches. Now to get them back to her. I sent her a text with a picture of the rings which made her very happy. She told me where she lived which happened to be on my way home, so I asked if I could drop them off, to which she excitedly said yes. I met her husband Patrick, her husband of just 2 months. This really made my day!

Melissa sent the following testimonial:

Hello!
He found my Wedding Ring AND band on the Beach! Steve was absolutely amazing!! My husband came across his page on “The Knot” and I am so happy I did! I went to the beach late at night and in the morning my ring off my hand was gone. I was devastated especially because we just got married a month ago.. I texted Steve and he got back to me within minutes. I described where I was on the beach and within 30 minutes he took a selfie on the beach of where I was and he got to work. He kept me updated and I am so happy he did. Then he found my rings! It was an absolute miracle and I am forever debted to this man. The amazing part is he even came to my home and dropped it off in Torrance which he did not need to do. He is an Angel and I am so happy I got to thank him in person. I hope this does not happen to you but if it does, Steve is the man to call!
Thank you again! You are the best!!

This return will have a much different story than most. I was contacted by Eric who had been at the beach the day before, and lost his wedding ring. We decided to do a search for it when he was able to get off work and meet me at the beach.

When I got there Eric was waiting out behind the area he had been at the day before. I walked up to him, and we briefly discussed the loss, and the area we were going to go to. As we were going out across the sand, there was another metal detectorist coming from that direction leaving the beach. I could not let him go by with out letting him know why we were there, and to ask if maybe he had found Eric’s ring. So the question, did you find a gold ring in a particular area? Like an experienced person in the craft, his answer was not necessarily an answer. We made small talk, and Eric described the exact area, and then the unique pattern on the ring. He also mentioned that it had been his grandfather’s ring. The other detectorist asked Eric to describe it a little better, and with Eric’s description he included that not only was the pattern unique, but that it also had an inscription inside. At that point seeing that Eric was able to fully identify the ring, the other gentleman pulled it out of his pocket, and said that he did find it and gave it to Eric. He also said that the fact that it had been Eric’s grandfather’s ring really touched his heart. Most of the men and ladies out there with metal detectors are good people with good hearts, but have a right to be suspicious when someone comes to them asking if they found a ring or something of value. This gentleman did the right thing to insure that Eric was able to intimately describe the ring before producing it. He did a great thing that day, and it would not have happened, and Eric would not have gotten his ring back if I had not been willing to ask. Sometimes you just have to ask. It ended up being a great day.

I received a call from Susannah who asked me if I could help find a lost ring in the sand. I was available. I let her know how long it would take to get to where they were, and that I was on my way.

When I got to the beach I was met by Michael who was the person who lost the ring. He told me how he had been playing volley ball, and when going for the ball noticed his ring was gone. He and his friends searched for it to no avail. I got my equipment ready, and began my search. Michael was showing me where to look first, which I did because it is always best to listen to the person who lost their valuable. After I hit all the places that he had shown me, I began to drift outside of the box he had shown, which at the time seemed a bit disconcerting to him, so I tried to reassure him that his ring was not where he thought it was, and to trust me on this one. Then about 10 feet away from his original spot I got the signal, dug and had his ring, to Michael’s great surprise. He was very happy to have it back, and glad for my perseverance. His friend, the shorter one of the two in the photo ran over and gave the strongest bear hug ever while jumping up and down. Needless to say, there was some celebration going on. Love those smiles.

Jolie contacted me in the evening, she had lost her ring in the sand at the beach while throwing a football around, and was needing help in finding it. I let her know I was available, and was on my way.

When I got to the area she and her friend were waiting by the swing set, and showed me the area of the loss which was right next to it. Jolie proceeded to show me exactly what she did when she felt the ring leave her finger which narrowed the search area considerably. I began my grid, and made about 5 passes before I heard anything in the head phones, then the high pitch of silver rang in my ears, and I dug. There in my scoop was one of the finest silver rings I have ever found. It was a shear delight just to look at. I pulled it out and held it up for her, and she ran over in disbelief that it was found so quickly. To see her smile was a completion of my day.

We had just finished dinner, and were relaxing for the evening about 8:00 PM when Lisa called about 3 rings she had lost earlier in the day. She was wondering if I would be available the next day to help her find them in the sand at the beach. I could not let her wait, and encouraged a search that same night knowing that too much time elapsed, and too many variables (County beach cleaners, and other people metal detecting) could lead to not being able to find them. I asked if she could meet me down at the beach in about an hour, and I would do a search for her. She agreed, and I was on my way.

I met Lisa and her husband on the bike path, and we trudged out across the expanse of sand in the darkness. It was difficult for Lisa and her husband to find the exact spot using phone lights because there was nothing left to mark the area, but they knew the general area, and I knew that a meticulous grid and patience would eventually end up with success. So I began my search. I worked a little outside of the area, and moved in towards the suspected spot. Then one of the rings, the light silver one was spotted on the surface, and I went in to find the other two. Within a couple of minutes, at about 10:00 PM Lisa had all of her rings back, and was assured of a good night’s sleep. What a joy to bring this kind of joy to others.

Maria contacted me concerning the loss of her engagement and wedding rings. She had given them to her daughter for her marriage, and she went to the beach a few days after. Her daughter had put the rings in her shorts for “safe keeping”, but at the end of the day, they were gone. Maria and her family spent hours trying to find the set, but were unable to. She contacted me the day after, which gave me a bit of reservation when talking about a recovery knowing that this beach is not only cleaned by machines on a daily basis, but also heavily metal detected. She would not be able to meet me there, but told me where the loss occurred, and sent a video showing the area. I was on my way.

When I got to the area, the first thing I noticed was that the machines had not gone through in the morning which increased my hope, and I sent this information to Maria. I needed a bit more clarification on the location, and we sent text back and forth until I felt I knew where to start searching. I began a meticulous grid making sure to cover all the sand in the area. I was getting no signals which I was expecting maybe from bottle caps or tin foil. Then on one pass, a good solid signal in the head phones. I dug, and there they were, still together as one in all their splendor. I sent her a text about the recovery, and offered to drive them to her at her job. Needless to say Maria was overjoyed. love those smiles,

Maria sent the following testimonial:

My daughter lost her wedding rings at Huntington Beach Monday night. We dug for over 4 hours with no luck. We ended up going home long after the sun had gone down, defeated, sore from digging and crying. As I was about to sleep, I Googled “what to do when you lose your ring at the beach” and I came across the RingFinders website. At first I was going to dismiss the option because the initial testimonials were from North Carolina/east coast area, but I did eventually see there were services in Southern California. I decided to call in the morning (now I know to call ASAP, meaning *immediately* even if it’s 11 p.m.). I texted Mr. Smith the next (mid) morning and after some who/what/when/where questions and info, he was on the hunt for the rings. I honestly was not optimistic because there were 4 of us looking for over 4 hours, digging digging digging with zero luck, but I just had to try because the rings have such deep sentimental value. The rings were my engagement/wedding rings from my husband who passed away in 2016, and I had just recently resized them for my daughter. My daughter and son-in-law (who is a Marine) decided to have a quick civil ceremony due to his military schedule not being amenable to planning the wedding they want anytime in the near future. I offered them my wedding rings for the civil ceremony since my daughter would inherit them eventually anyway. They had just gotten married the Friday before. 11 minutes. Upon arriving at the lifeguard station where the rings were last seen, Mr. Smith found the rings in 11 minutes. I can’t begin to put into words all the motions that engulfed me as soon as I saw the text: “I found your rings” with the subsequent pictures of the actual rings in the sand. BLESS YOU and the work you do, Steve Smith. Not many people know about this site, but they will now! I’m telling anyone and everyone this story and about this service!

I was contacted by Mike who told me his wife had lost her ring at a friend’s house while shaking water off of her hands. She had received the ring just two days before for her birthday, so the loss was heartbreaking. We arranged a time to do the search when they had access to the house again.

I got to the house early, and it turned out to be a really special looking home, somewhat castle-like, so I waited for Mike to come. When Mike showed up his wife Nancy was with him, and they took me to the back yard where they showed me the area of the loss. It was a very steep hillside covered with ground cover and bushes. I asked how the loss occurred, and Nancy showed me that she had shaken her hands over the wall that separated the walkway from the hillside, and made a flicking movement away from her body. As I began my search Mike explained that the house was designed and owned by Walt Disney back in the 1930’s.

I started searching near the top, but began to concentrate on the middle and lower part of the hillside because of the motion she had made when she showed me at first. I went up and down (sliding a lot as well) going over the hillside with a larger coil to penetrate the ground cover. I also used my pin pointer in and around the bushes to insure that I did not miss anything. After about an hour of searching Mike and Nancy told me they had to leave because of a previously scheduled appointment, but introduced me to the house’s owner who said that I could remain and continue my search. Before they left I asked if Nancy could show me again how she shook off her hands, but this time wetting them first so I could see exactly how it happened. To my surprise the shaking when wet was more of a straight down action, so I decided to concentrate on the upper part of the hillside. She had tried to explain what the ring looked like so I was looking for what I thought was a medium sized woman’s ring. I continued my search going over the upper part of the hill with a “fine toothed comb”. The dirt was somewhat soft also, but I was expecting a surface recovery, or one that wasn’t too deep. I got to this one bush about 30 minutes later, and using my pin pointer I began poking around and into the dirt. Then right next to the stalk of the bush I got a slight signal, so I began to dig, and right next to the stalk down about 1 1/2 inches in the dirt was the ring. Here I was at Walt Disney’s house, and with all the magic what did I see; a very large heavy princess’s gold and emerald ring. The ring had a faceted crystal bubble filled with small jeweled emeralds, something a princess would wear. Because of the weight of the ring it penetrated the dirt and completely disappeared almost 2 inches into the dirt. We later arranged for me to deliver the ring to Nancy at their home, and was able to give the princess back her ring. What a special day for sure.

I received a text from Chloe for help in finding her husband’s lost wedding ring. They had been at the beach 2 days prior when it was lost. I know the beach is cleaned with machines daily, and asked some pertinent questions to determine the possibility of a recovery. After her answers to my questions about the area of the loss, I told them it would definitely be worth a try, but that it might not be there for a variety of reasons, but to keep the hope alive. We decided to meet at the lowest tide of the day.

I got there before they did, and waited for them to show me where the loss occurred. When they arrived I met Chloe’s husband Matt, and they took me down to the area of where they believed they had lost the ring. Matt was pretty sure of the spot, and drew a line in the sand to show me where he believed it was lost. I began my search just to the north of his line and ran a line down to the water, and then began to work the grid back up the slope. There were no signals at all, and then a solid signal in the headphones. I dug, shook my scoop, and there in bottom was Matt’s ring, after 2 days in a prime location; Awesome! They were so happy to have it back when Chloe told me the story about the ring, that it was Matt’s Grandfather’s, and then his Dad’s. His Dad gifted it to him when Matt and Chloe got married not even a year earlier. What a special find!

I got a call from Amy who had lost 3 rings in the sand at the beach. This was an important loss, and We made arrangements to get me there as soon as I could make it in order to perform a search for her.

By the time I arrived, Amy had had to leave, but she had called her husband Anthony to be there. I walked out to meet him, and he explained that he had searched and found 2 of the rings, but was unable to find the 3rd. I set up to search, and within seconds, I had the 3rd ring in my scoop. It was only a few feet from where Anthony had been searching, and Amy now had all of her rings back. it was a very fruitful day for a search.
