**** Faye and her husband Riley were at Huntington City Beach, Orange County, CA. with their two young sons. She had lost her wedding ring near their beach blanket after removing it to apply sun screen.. The area of the loss should have been in a 20’x20’ area.

They had another person with a metal detector searched the location with no success. I was called, asking if I was close enough to help. Fortunately I was just a mile away and was at the location within 15 minutes. 

When I arrived Riley described the ring as a small white gold woman’s wedding ring that had small diamonds 3/4 around the band. These can be elusive especially if laying on edge in the sand. Then they did recall two incidents where she went outside the original search site.

They had been searching for several hour by now. As I completed 5 passes of my grid, Riley got a call from his wife who was waiting in the car a the parking lot. She told Riley that this was ”MisSion Impossible ” she was ready to give up and go home.

At the very same moment I dug the signal discovering her wedding ring in my sand scoop. He was elated, then without calling his wife, we walked over to the parking lot. He approached the car not saying a word. He held up the ring for Faye to see. Boom! her eyes lit up then the tears of joy started to flow. We still didn’t under stand why the first detector missed the ring. The ring was recovered and back where it belongs.The important thing was the ring was found. . A very happy couple and it was a pleasure to be a available to help them..

Mariano called me after finding my contact information on theringfinders website. He believed his white gold wedding band may have fallen off his finger while installing grass sod in his front yard.

Mariano reviewed several cameras and photos taken the day of the loss. He was very sure the ring was somewhere in the 40’x 75’ front yard. He bought a metal detector from a local sporting goods store. After a couple day of frustration,  trying to understand his new metal detector, he gave up. 

When Mariano called me, we made an appointment to meet the next morning. This type of search was a first for me. I knew it could involve rolling back the newly installed grass sod. It could be tedious work if there was a lot of metal trash under the sod. 

I began a grid search marking all potential targets with plastic markers. My metal detector has target identification numbers and tones which can be helpful but when searching for important sentimental jewelry, I do not rely on that feature of the metal detector.

After a scan of the whole lawn, there were approximately 20 markers that I would individually check with my pinpointer detector. Mariano was close by, so I explained my next move. I would start with the best signal which had been marked with a double marker. 

Both Mariano and I checked  the target. He anxiously pulled back the first 3” of sod revealing his white gold wedding ring perfectly visible as if someone just set it there. ( I believe those rolls of sod are 5 or 6 ft. of long). Again a lucky choice of direction to begin a search.

Mariano immediately let his wife know that the ring was found and called his father who had been a part of the original search. Another happy grateful family that didn’t know a service like this was available.

…Michael and his wife were at Sunset Beach, California. They were shooting videos of each other when Michael rolled down a sand embankment. He immediately felt that his wedding ring had come off. The sand was very dry and deep. The ring just disappeared. Then after  they spent a couple hours searching, a person who saw them searching told them about the ring finders website.

Michael called me and I was able to meet him at the site shortly after talking to him. We walked out to the location while he explained what happened. The embankment was actually a steep sand berm that the county puts up to protect the beach front homes from winter storms. 

It was a bit difficult to walk and swing the detector on the steep incline. Everything worked out well and the ring was still shallow enough for the metal detector to give me a decent signal. The ring was recovered several minutes after beginning the grid search. 

Michael and his wife were surprised and relieved that the ring was found. They told me that after their attempt to find the ring. Being totally frustrated they felt it was impossible to find such a small item in a sea of sand.  I told them a metal detector is the right tool to find a ring but you need the proper detector and know how to use it.

Another successful recovery for a happy grateful couple.

*** I was detecting around fire pits at Bolsa Chica State Beach, CA., when I found a working cellphone. It must have been dropped in the sand the night before. The phone was locked but it had enough charge in it to receive a call. My hope was that the owner would try calling it from another phone.

The last time I found an iPhone there was a message on the locked screen that said, this phone has been lost and it gave a phone number to contact the owner. That was convenient and easy way to return a iPhone.

I was about to take the phone into the AT&T store for help finding the owner. It had been three days since I found the phone. Just before entering the store, looked at the phone clicking on Emergency Contacts. “Boom” .. three phone numbers that I used to let contacts of Taylor know I have his phone.

Within 10 minutes Taylor called me. We set up a time and place to meet. Taylor was so excited and happy to have his phone returned. I know how he felt because I had also lost my iPhone 11 a couple days before and a couple called me right away. I didn’t have it locked, which could have been a disaster. Security plus expensive to replace $$.

**** I was called to help Ella find her engagement ring that she thought may have been lost at Laguna Beach, CA.

Ella and her fiancé had been staying at a hotel on the beachfront. The weather had been a bit chilly, keeping people off the beach. Ella regularly works out with a hula hoop, so she thought it would be nice to work out on the beach with her hula hoop. She was sure her engagement ring was on before walking to the beach. After returning to the room she discovered her heirloom engagement ring was missing. The situation involved walking to and from the beach plus an hour and a half of walking two or three blocks at waterline of the beach.

I met her shortly after she called me. We were fortunate that the tide was receding. It was going to be raining so I came prepared with rain gear. We were not quite sure that the ring had been lost at the beach area, but that was where she did the most physical activity. I told Ella that if the ring was there, I could find it. If it didn’t show up we can eliminate that area, so she can check the other locations she had been.

Ella couldn’t stay, which was a good thing. I knew that this was going to be a long search. After three and a half hours, there was just a small area remaining. I was already trying to think of what I would text Ella. Then I got a strong signal that turned out to be Ella’s ring. I was surprised and happy that I could send a successful recovery text with a photo of the ring. 

She replied right away saying she had given up hope and had figured I didn’t stay to search in the rain. We met two days later when she had time to pick up the ring. This was my first hula hoop ring loss and recovery. What’s next?

… John and his wife were enjoying their last day of their vacation at Santa Monica Beach, CA. He stood up near their blanket in the dry sand brushing sand off his leg, when his gold wedding ring went flying into the sand.

He was able to locate me online at TheRingFinders website. I made arrangements to meet him at the location  Our main concern was that he had to catch a flight back to Denver, Colorado soon. He might only have 15 minutes to show me the area of the loss. I suggested that he mark the spot with some markers and continue to grab into the sand. There was always a chance that traffic could delay my arrival.

I parked very close to our meeting place. They were still at the location. It was one of those quick recoveries because John called me shortly after the accidental loss and he stayed at the location. All searches are not this easy but we at TheRingFinders know how to conduct a proper search using the most efficient metal detecting equipment. 

John and his wife were able to catch their flight home with his wedding ring on his finger.

Metal Detector Specialist Recovers Stud Earring in Grass .. City of Orange, CA

… Kristen had taken her afternoon walk with her children and their dog. They were at a neighborhood park when she went to adjust her small stud style earring. The dog got a little excited pulling on her hand that held the earring and it went flying into the grass. 

Several of her neighbors attempted to find the stud earring. They even had a metal detector which couldn’t find her favorite piece of jewelry.

The next day, one of Kristen’s friends suggested that she go online to call a ring finder. That was how she found me. I met her a couple hours after our phone conversation.

Kristen had the matching earring which helped me set up my metal detector. We walked a couple blocks to the park where she showed me a small area in the grass, 10’ x 20’. She couldn’t stay which wasn’t necessary because I had all the information I needed.

I decided to use my high frequency settings on my metal detector. The search site was fairly free of metal trash signals which helped to make it a quick recovery. Also,  the earring was .925 silver making it an easier target to identify. 

After getting the signal I was looking for, I took a look into the grass and the only thing visible was the thin post. It seems to be normal for these stud earrings to fall with the heavier end downward. 

It was a good feeling to recover this because these small earrings are always a challenge. Kristen was very happy to get this back. It had special sentimental meaning to her.

****  Tyler and Trinity had spent the afternoon at The Wedge on he Balboa Peninsula, Newport Beach, CA.  Just before the end of their stay, Trinity lost an heirloom gold ring that had been worn for years by her mother.

Tyler just told me that she had lost the ring in the sand while throwing a ball. He called me at 8:30pm. I told him, if they could stay at the location for another half hour we had a very good chance to recover the ring. He agreed to mark the location and wait till I could meet them.

When I walked out on the beach near one of the lifeguard towers they were not on the beach, so I called his cellphone. Trinity and Tyler had decided to wait in their car as it was windy and cold. Tyler walked out to show me the general location. Trinity stayed in the car and he told me she was very emotional believing the ring was lost forever. It was very sentimental to her because her mother had recently passed away. 

We got to a blanket that marked where Trinity had been standing when the loss occurred. I took the time to explain to Tyler how the metal detector works as I began a grid search. Within the first eight feet I got a great signal thinking it could be a bottle cap. After shaking the sand out of my scoop, I was surprised to see a yellow gold ring at the bottom. It was a 18k gold Cartier Love Ring. This was Trinity’s ring. It was another quick recovery because Trinity and Tyler were able contact me shortly after losing the ring. Also they stayed in the area to get me to the general area. The metal detector did the rest of the job. It was a privilege to be available help this couple find such a sentimental keepsake.

How to Find a Ring Lost in a Construction Site Using a Metal Detector .. Rancho Cucamonga CA.

*** Shaun had walked out of his house in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. when the  strong wind blew his hat of his head. He instinctively threw his hands up to catch his hat. That’s when his wedding ring flew off his finger. 

After a couple days of searching his yard that was in the process of a landscaping project he decided he needed help. Shaun had did a little research and was able to get a recommendation to call a member of TheRingFinders. His first question to me was, to ask if I could come 60 miles to do a search in his yard. Not a problem for me. It was only a little more than an hour drive.

When I met Shaun he showed me where he had been standing when he threw hands up to catch his hat. Directly in front of him was the sidewalk with short artificial turf between the sidewalk and curb. All that area did not have any place that could hide a ring, although wedding bands have been known to hit hard surfaces rolling quite a distance.

After doing a simple visual search of the sidewalk and street. I began an search the construction area where there was a block wall being built. It was difficult to walk over the slight slope covered with good size rocks. After about an hour into the search, I got a good signal from my metal detector. Up against the bock wall hiding in the shade of a medium size rock was Shaun’s ring. I called him over to look at the location it was found. He told me that he was sure he would have never found the ring without my help. I know it was hard to know what direction or how far the ring had gone because the loss happened so fast. Once the construction workers returned to finish the work, I’m sure the ring would have been buried or removed with the excess dirt and rocks.

Most important is Shaun has his ring back where it belongs. It was also nice to see the happiness and grateful response he showed me. I love doing ring recoveries.

Two Rings Lost in a City Park Lake in Irvine, CA. … Recovered and Returned

*** Roz and Nema were sitting on a bench next to a local city lake in Irvine, CA.. She took two rings off her finger placing them on her lap while applying hand sanitizer. Forgetting that her rings were on her lap, she stood up and both rings fell into the lake.

A neighbor saw they needed help, volunteering to use his pool cleaning scoop to hopefully find the rings. The water depth varied from 3ft. to 4ft. with zero visibility. As he was attempting to find the rings, another neighbor told the distressed couple about TheRingFinders.com. She actually called me with her phone, handing it off to Roz. 

Roz told me about the loss while I was just leaving another search. I had my water detector with me, so I was able to drive directly to their location. We only had about an hour of daylight left. Right away I got into the water and after pulling out many trash targets, the promise ring was found. They were amazed and happy to have this ring back. 

It was dark so I decided to return the next day, even though they said it wasn’t necessary. They were very happy to have the promise ring recovered.

As a ring finder, I couldn’t give up so easy. Especially when we know the rings were lost directly in that location. It was less than ten miles from were I live. 

I returned the next morning with my wetsuit and a 6” coil set up on my detector. My plan was to dig everything,  as we weren’t sure what type metal the ring is. Roz thought it might be gold plated. After another hour in the water there was a high tone signal that gave me a #30 ID reading. It could be a quarter coin, aluminum or something silver. I scooped at the signal then looked into the scoop. “Bingo” gold colored ring with a big yellow stone. (Roz’s Ring). When I checked the ID reading out of ether water, it gave me a number #15. It was in the undercut of the embankment 4 ft. deep probably being masked by a piece of aluminum (?). I only regret that I didn’t find out what metal was masking the signal. Every search is a chance to gain more experience and I believe I’ve been on more than a thousand searches.

The rings are both back where they belong. This story of how the rings were lost and recovered will always be part of the Roz and Nema’s memories. I love being able to help people.
