Car Key Fob Lost in Sand at Newport Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Metal Detecting Service .. Call Stan the Metal Detector Man ..  949-500-2136“.

I was metal defecting at Corona del Mar State Beach in the city of Newport Beach, CA. When I spotted an area that looked like someone had been searching for a lost item. No body was near, so out of curiosity I ran my detector over the zone. Boom!  I dug up a brand new key fob for a Audi Suv car.

I usually turn car keys into the lifguards as that is the first place people go to see if their keys had been found. It was late, the lifeguard office was closed. I detected in the area for another hour hoping the people would return. Now it was dark so, I decided I would drive up to the street above the beach hoping to see a mobile lock service, AAA helping a keyless car owner.

Just for fun I pushed on the key fob buttons and Bingo, I found the Audi Suv.. I waited about a half hour then decided to leave two notes, with my contact information. ( one inside and one in the windshield )

The next morning I received a call from the owner. He was very grateful. He had a share set of keys but they were 450 miles away in San Francisco, CA.. The dealership told him it would be 3 or 4 weeks before they could get him another set of keys.

Every thing worked out the way it was suppose to be. What is next?

*** I received a call from Taylor, who had lost a thin silver necklace in the dry sand at a small cove in Laguna Beach, CA. The first thing I noticed was my caller ID indicated that I had recovered a Cartier ring for her last year.

It was like talking to an old friend. She said, she was at Table Rock Beach Cove in South Laguna.  She had placed her thin silver necklace on the towel while she wet for a swim. Her friend picked up the towel not knowing the chain was there. They could not find the necklace even though it was in a 10’x10’ area.

I met them at Table Rock Beach after driving 10 miles. It was a bit of a walk down a couple hundred steps down to the sand. Because the chain was very thin and it had a very small pendant. I brought two detectors and a special sand rake that I use for small items that can’t be detected. No way was I willing to hike back up the 200 plus steps to get other equipment.

Taylor and her friend showed me the spot they were guarding. I set up my Equinox 800. A few swings later I got a faint signal but the iD reading was stable at a #3. It just slipped through my sand scoop so, I reached into the sand with my hands. The tiny thin necklace was in my hand and it was barely visible.  Successful search with Taylor and her friend happy they took the time to call for help.

I FIND JEWELRY”  call Stan the Metal Detector Man if you need  help ..  949-500-2136

**** Kelly call me to inquire if I could help her find a small white gold earring in the sand at a small cove in Laguna Beach, CA. She was sure that it had to be near where she and her girl friends had spent the day.

She couldn’t meet me at the location until after her last class at school which would be the next day at 6pm. We discussed the location a little bit more and she sent me a photo . After recognizing the lifeguard tower in the back ground, I felt I would not need her to come to beach.

The next morning I was at the West St. Beach in South Laguna. Kelly had told me that the earring was a small hoop type white gold item. So I took two metal detectors down the long set of steps . Immediately I spotted the landmarks. Also, I could see finger drag marks in the sand.

Thought this would be a easy find. My first double grid over the zone with my multi frequency detector did not reveal the earring. I took a few minutes to set up my other detector which I could use at a higher frequency setting. “BOOM” .. a couple swings got me a decent signal. The white gold earring was found. It was open and possibly on edge ? Can’t really say why I missed it with my other detector, because it is also know for finding small nonferrous metals.

The most important fact is this very sentimental piece of jewelry was found and returned to Kelly later in the evening. A very happy grateful young lady.

**** Ann and Doug are from Chicago, IL. They were vacationing in Laguna Beach, CA. he lost his wedding ring.  They were enjoying the day at Monarch Bay Resort. After lunch they went out on the sand to take a walk near the water’s edge. In the middle of the beach Doug picked up a ball to throw it to Ann. His loose fitting gold wedding ring went flying off his finger into the soft dry sand. It disappeared immediately.

The beach attendants assisted them to search for the ring without any success. Ann and Doug had to leave the area because they had be in San Diego, CA. that evening. As they were driving the 70 miles, Ann found my contact information on line. She called me at 4:30pm as they were driving, telling me they had lost the ring about 2:30pm. She verbally explained what had happened and sent me some photos of the location of the general area of the loss. The internet and cellphones are awesome.

I have been on that beach several other times but this time I could not get through the security gate. Just a little inconvenience, which meant I’d have to walk in about 3/4 of a mile. When I got to the beach and lined up with the landmarks Ann had given me, I found some rake marks on the sand. These had to be where they searched couple hours before. Starting my grid search I covered the whole marked off spot. Now I began a new grid area to the south. On the third 25ft. line got my first signal and only signal. Yes, it was Doug’s gold wedding band, out in the middle of nowhere.

I contacted them with the good news. We discussed the best way to return the ring as mailing it was not proving to be the best option. They could not be returning to Chicago for several days. After discussing several ideas, I realized how important this ring was to Doug and I volunteered to deliver it to him at their hotel in San Diego. I was free and it wasn’t that much trouble, so I made the drive and met the both of them before 9pm. I do enjoy meeting the people I had the pleasure to help, that’s the bonus for me.

Another happy day in the life of a Ring Finder and then people we are able to help.

Marriage Proposal on the Beach Goes Wrong.. Engagement Ring Lost in Sand.. Newport Beach, CA.

*** Geisia was vacationing in Newport Port Beach, CA. with friends and family. Just before sunset they were all on the beach ready to be present when Matthew surprised Geisia, asking her to marry him. When he opened the ring box to give Geisia the ring, the ring was not there.

Panic set in amongst the group, but Matthew proposed anyway. Afterwards everybody in the group tried their luck at finding the ring in the sand, even though nobody actually saw the ring fall into the sand.

The next morning they spent the morning searching the car and the hotel room, because there was a strong probability it could have been lost before getting to the beach. Then they had to drive back to Sacramento, CA. . Four days after the loss Geisia found me while searching for ideas to find the engagement ring.

She realized that several days had pasted when we talked on the phone. There were several areas where the loss could have occurred but I offered to grid search the location on the beach. At least I could give her closure that the ring was not there.

Even though there were people on beach, I went to the beach before noon to cover part of the area where they walked in. It was close to where I live, so I returned to continue clearing the whole area after sunset. It’s hard to stay positive while doing a search where there so many other places the loss could have happened. I love to have people say, ” I saw it fall off my finger ”.. Even then, there are times when the item can not be found.

Long story, short and to my surprise after two hours I got a little weak signal that is typical for a small 10k white gold ring. ”Boom” Geisia’s diamond white gold engagement ring in the scoop. It came just before giving up on the search, because I had been running out of search space. I was more than 25 yards outside the search area box when the miracle happened.

I called them with the good news. Then the next morning, mailed it to them using next day mail service. She sent me awesome thank you messages and photos of her and all their friends.

Irreplaceable Gold Tourmaline Ring Lost in Ocean at Long Beach, CA. .. Found Two Days Later

**** Kathleen had been at a party in Long Beach, CA. with her friends on a Friday night. After midnight they all decided to take a swim in the ocean. Unfortunately she lost her vintage gold tourmaline ring in the water. After finding my contact information online, she told me that she was only in waist deep water and felt the ring slip off her finger.

Kathleen was unable to meet me at the location. In this case it would be unnecessary because I would be searching at the low tide at 4am. Also she had sent me very clear directions using google earth marked up screen shots. My first search was in successful but I did get an idea of the conditions. The next day was a lower low tide and I was prepared to dig the many trash metal signals on this beach.

I began my grid search in the center of the area of the loss, covering the zone to the north towards the water and back to the dry sand. After doing about 40 yards in that direction, I returned to my starting point where I continued my grid to the south. Second grid line in the south direction ”Boom” a great signal ( same as a aluminum pull tab )   Kathleen’s gold tourmaline ring. My first tourmaline ring and it was a beautiful color as the sunrise was beginning.

I called her later that morning with the good news. We met later that morning to get her ring where it belongs. This ring was purchased several years ago in New Orleans, Louisiana as memory of her vacation to Marti Gras events. This was a challenging search dealing with the early tides and the metal trash, but worth every minute to be able to see the smile on Kathleen’s face when she held her cherished keepsake.

.*** Brendan called asking if I was available to help him find his friend’s wedding ring. He was guarding the location because his friend had to leave with their five children after a whole day at the beach. The wedding band was in the Cupholder of a beach chair and they realized the ring had fallen into the sand as they pack up their beach gear.

After spending a few minutes searching they had to leave. Brendan volunteered to stay and called me to help him search for the ring. It was just sunset when I met him at the location. I took a few minutes to get a little information about how the ring was lost. Lost less than two hours ago, discovered the ring missing shortly after it dropped into the sand and guarding the location till I arrived. Everything that I needed to make a successful recovery.

I set up my detector, did three 20 foot grid lines ”Boom” a great signal and wedding ring in the scoop. Brendan was surprised and happy to call his friend giving him the good news of the ring recovery.

“I FIND JEWELRY”  call Stan the Metal Detector Man if you need  help ..  949-500-2136  ..  Email: Stan.Ross@theringfinders.com

… I was contacted by Phil who believe he lost his gold wedding ring while at a Totlot in Mission Viejo, CA. He had put his ring in his pocket when he took his son to play at the local park. When Phil talked to me on the phone he said he would not be able to meet me until late afternoon.

In this case I didn’t believe it was necessary to have him present as normally totlots are not very large. I assured him that he could trust me as I do this often, I don’t need anymore rings. It’s much more rewarding to find and return sentimental keepsakes such as wedding rings.

I was able find the park and I had the whole park to myself. It was a short walk to the sandy Totlot play area. He had mention that the monkey bar area was where he believed the ring was lost but he had also spent time with his son at the swings.

When I came to the swing area there were tell tale signs that it had been searched, finger drag marks. A quick scan with my detector, no signals. Then I walked directly to the bars where the ring signal showed up on my metal detector. Phil was right about the location of the loss.

I took a photo of the ring and Phil was able to meet me in between his daily duties. He was very appreciative that he was able to get his ring found and returned by just making a phone call.

These days people are busy and it always easy to get the time to rent a metal detector, learn how to work it and get back to spend hours learning to search for a important irreplaceable sentimental keepsake. This is why I feel good about helping people like Phil, also we have to give credit to the Internet and all the new technology.

… Kendra and her husband Michael were at The Wedge in Newport Beach, CA. It is a famous surfing and body surfing spot at the south end of the Balboa Penesula. Michael had handed Kendra his wedding ring as he didn’t want to lose it while body surfing.

They returned home before realizing Kendra did not have the ring. Early the next morning they returned to search by hand in the dry sand. While they were crawling around in the sand. The couple that I had found their ring the day before ( Jolene and Greg )  told them about my service. Kendra looked me up on TheRingFinders website. I was able to meet them shortly after talking to them.

When we met they showed me a 20’x20’ square area where they had been sitting. Like most beach loss locations it was easy to spot with all the finger drag marks in the sand. It didn’t take long to find the yellow gold wedding ring. They were amazed that the service was available, telling me they would tell all their friends about The Ring Finders website.

Beach Metal Detector Service available at Crystal Cove, Newport Beach, CA. helped a couple of tourists find a gold wedding band lost in the sand…  Available to help you now… Call Stan Ross ..  949-500-2136

**** George and Sarah had been at Crystal Cove State Beach which is located in the city of Newport Beach, CA. They had met friends that evening for dinner and a few drinks at the Beachcomber Resturant. They took a walk on the beach after dinner. George had made a gesture with his hand and his loose-fitting wedding band flew off his finger into the dry sand.

Six people spent most of an hour searching the sand in the dark with no results. Then one of them did a google search that gave turned up my contact information on the ring finders website.

It’s less than a five mile drive for me so we met shortly after talking on the phone. This would have been nearly impossible without the benefit of cellphones and google search.

The other members of the group went back to the bar to enjoy their adult beverages. Sarah and George walked me to the location and we had the ring minutes after I turned on my metal detector. Part of their evening was disrupted but they were still able to enjoy the rest of the evening with their friends.

I know we could have found the ring the next day. It would have involved a separate 40 mile trip for Sarah or George plus a whole night of worrying about the loss of a very sentimental keepsake. Some people have jobs or obligations that prevent them from meeting up to show me the general locations. Many times I’ll ask for a Google map screen shot or a Google map pin marker to get me to the general location when they are unable to meet me.
