*** Jason called me from Laguna Beach,CA. after his wife, Julia had accidentally dropped his platinum wedding ring in the sand. She had been holding his ring while he went for a swim.

They were searching the sand when a passerby told them about how to contact me by searching the internet for TheRingFinders directory of metal detector specialists.

I received the call and was only 7 miles away so it was a quick response. I was able to meet them on one of the beautiful Laguna Beach coves. Julia was feeling a little guilty for being careless with the ring. It was easy to assure her that this happens more than most people know.

The best part of this find was that they were still in the general location, so it didn’t take long to find Jason’s very sentimental platinum wedding ring.

Diamond Stud Earring Lost in the Grass in Newbury Park High School…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Demond about a lost diamond stud earring he lost in the grass at a high school where he coaches football. We arranged to meet the next day in order to get right on the search so as to not let too much time go by.

When I got there Demond met me and took me to the area of the loss. He showed me where he and the team he was coaching had pulled the grass up looking for the lost earring with no luck. I began my search in a grid pattern, and made a few passes. Demond then showed me where he thought the earring actually came off, so I moved to that spot to continue the search. After about 5 or 6 swings of the coil over the grass, I got a good solid signal, and switched to my pin pointer. I worked through the grass, and then the pin pointer was hearing the metal in the muddy dirt under the grass, so I worked my finger in to dislodge whatever it was, when I saw the earring come up, and flip into the already moved grass. It just made for a little more searching, but I eventually recovered the earring, and gave it back to Demond, who was very happy, because the earrings were a present from his wife for their anniversary. His smile tells it all!

Hierloom Ring Lost in Yard In Los Angeles…Found.

Adam called about the loss of his ring, a ring that had been his great uncle’s, given to him by his late mother. It had special significance, because it was a ring of a fraternal order that Adam also is a member of. I let him know I would be over to do the search as soon as we could coordinate schedules.

When I arrived at Adam’s house, he took me to the area of the loss, which wasn’t real large (assuming it had not fallen down the hill into another yard). Adam had borrowed a friend’s metal detector, a good named brand, and tried to find the ring, but was unable to. I understand why because when I began searching his yard I was hearing a lot of iron, so it must have been frustrating to do the search hearing beep after beep, not knowing what to listen for. It really did not take more than a couple of minutes until I was able to get the tone, and VDI number I was looking for. I reached down, and retrieved Adam’s ring, which was a surprise to him that the search would have been so short. Metal detectors work very well, but the experience of knowing what to look, and listen for is what enables us to be able to pick out the signals that make the difference, and not get frustrated ourselves. It was a pleasure meeting Adam, talking about our lives (we have similar extracurricular activities), and being able to help him. What a great time!

Adam sent the following testimonial:

Steve Smith is amazing! I called Steve after I lost my vintage Scottish Rite ring in my garden after pulling weeds. The ring was given to me by my late mother, and was from the 1920s. It has tremendous sentimental value to me and I was heartbroken after discovering that I had lost it. Tip: never pull weeds without wearing gloves, no matter how tempting. After immediately discovering my ring not on my finger, I told my wife. She found Steve’s info and I was about to call him, but she said to try finding the ring myself first. I spent several hours crawling around where I thought I had lost it. Digging into the ground well into the evening. I then remembered a friend telling me that he owned a metal detector and that he occasionally would go gold hunting. I called him up and picked up the metal detector wrapped in a plastic garbage bag. He told me to pull up the instructions off of the internet and wished me good luck. After watching several Youtube videos, I started to look for the ring. The metal detector began to pick up sounds from every type of metal in the ground, including years of nails, and other garbage. After about four frustrating hours, I gave up and called Steve. He came over the next day and I told him the story of what happened and my attempts at finding the ring while he assembled his gear. He then started to search and within two minutes exclaimed “is this what you are looking for?” I was amazed at Steve’s abilities at finding things. I really can’t thank him enough. We ended up speaking afterwards for a good forty-five minutes. It turns out we are both surfers and had a great time talking about that. If you have lost something, don’t give up hope, give Steve a call.

Khrysta called about 7:30 PM in dire need of metal detecting service. She had buried her keys on the beach so that she could go in the water without worrying someone would take them. The problem was that when she and her friend were ready to leave, they packed everything up and went back to the car, a good distance from their original position. Needless to say, it seemed an impossible task to find them again, as there were very few people, or other landmarks to get them back to the exact spot they had been in. I let her know I would be there as soon as I could get there.

When I got there Khrysta and her friend met me, and took me out to the area they believed the loss to have occurred. As I looked over the area under the light of my headlight, I could see where they had searched, so I began my grid. I made about 8 passes, When I noticed another area where they had searched, and asked if that might have been where they had been. They weren’t sure at that point, but felt that I was searching in the most likely spot, so I continued my grid. It was about 4 more passes, and I got a signal, dug and saw this big pink light stick in the scoop. Khrysta and her friend saw it too, knew that I had found the keys, and came right over. They were very happy. Now they could go home without worry. Glad to have helped!

I got a call from a young lady who lost her rental car key in the sand at the beach. I had some previous commitments, so I was not able to go and do the search until many hours later. She decided to do the search when I was available later in the evening, and I called her when I was on my way.

We agreed on where to meet, and she and a friend arrived to help me locate the search area. We went out, and I began my grid of the sand. It was about 75 feet to each point of the grid, but I just kept to the pattern. After about 5 grid lines, and many bottle caps, the ladies went back to the car they arrived in. That is when I found the key. I walked out to them. They had gone to retrieve an electronic lantern to help them see better in the darkness. I went over and teased that I thought they had left me, and was assured that was not the case, when I held out the key to their surprise. They were very happy, because the rental company had been a bear for them to deal with all day. Anyway, a great end of the day!

How to Find Your Lost Ring When Lost in the Sand .. Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, CA.

Metal detecting service available to help you find your lost ring or other precious metallic jewelry.. 949-500-2136

***** Jeremy and Elyssa had been at the beach the day before calling me. Jeremy had put his wedding band in his shoe with their other belongings on the beach. After enjoying their day at Doheny Beach, Dana Point, CA. he remembered what he had done. They live close, so he returned to search the sand that evening in the dark without success.

Elyssa located me the next morning and I met them at the beach. It was a warm summer day with many people setting up their little beach spots early. The main thing was to get the general area located. I did a quick scan of the open spaces, but it would be necessary to return after 6pm to do a proper grid search. Finding a ring is a meticulous job, similar to mopping a floor. If you miss it by an inch, you might as well miss it by a mile.

I returned at 6 pm to begin my search. It looked like some of the people were not going to leave till the beach closed at 10pm. After nearly an hour the magic of the metal detector gave me a strong signal that turned out to Jeremy’s Tungsten Carbide Wedding Ring. Thirty minutes after calling them, they met me on the beach just as the sunset. It was a great reunion which the smiles of Elyssa and Jeremy prove. It was a pleasure to meet and help them. I love doing this.

****** Julian’s friend threw her car keys off the second floor balcony of her apartment. Her mother was able to find metal detecting service when she located TheRingFinders online. After two days of looking through the landscape plants which was mostly ivy. They set up a time that afternoon that I could meet them to attempt a search.

When we met Julian took me up the spot where the throw happened. I could see many places that keys could hide including a trash dumpster and the roofs of the garages. Concentrating on the landscaping and especially the ivy which are perfect hiding places.

The keys with a remote garage door opener showed up in the ivy more than 150 ft. away from the launching point. I was actually beginning to call off the search because I thought nobody could throw keys that far. I learn something every time I do a search.

Julian and her mother, Jennifer were about to give up hope when I let them know I found the keys.

*****While searching for silver ring at a volleyball court on the sand at Venice Beach, CA. I found a IPhone X buried next to the posts that hold the net.

Later that night after returning home, I charged the phone. There was a notification saying,” This is a lost phone please call a number listed.” I called the number getting a friend of Christina, the owner of the phone.

Christina called me a few minutes later and we made arrangements for her to pick up her phone. When she met me she couldn’t understand how her phone ended up buried in a plastic bag in a location she had never been. It probably got picked up by someone who didn’t want to get located in possession of the IPhone. These phones have location apps that can be traced back to where they have been lost.

The important thing was that we were able to get Christina’s phone back to her. She was very grateful, saying I saved her a thousand dollars. Being a college student, it’s not easy to come up with the money to replace a smart phone.

Sentimental Silver Ring Lost at Malibu Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Roy, he had been throwing a football to his friend at the beach, when his ring flew off of his hand. He did not think it went into the water, even though he was close. I told him I would be there as soon as I could to perform a search for him. The ring was given to him by his father who had since passed away, so this ring had extreme sentimental value to him.

When I arrived he took me to the area, and showed me what had happened. It seemed like it should’ve been an easy search, but the tide was coming in, and less sand was exposed. It was about 7:00 PM, and tide was almost at its highest, and all the area he thought it might have landed in did not have the ring. After completely searching the area, I was disheartened to have to tell Roy, that his ring was not in the area I searched, but told him that I would come back at 12:00 AM to do a second search when the tide had receded, and he was welcome to meet me for the search. Roy decided not to go, so I was on the beach in the darkness doing my grid alone at 12:00 AM. About 1 1/2 hours later down the slope 30 feet from where I was searching earlier (30 feet further out in the water earlier), I received a real nice signal, and dug. One scoop, and his ring was shining in my headlight. I sent him a text at 1:30 AM to let him know the ring was secure. I did not hear anything back from him until the next morning, at which time he was totally in disbelief that I was able find his ring. Because of work arrangements we had to wait a week in order to get his ring back. When we finally met, I was able to give this memory of his father back to him, and completely make his day. What a great service to be a part of!
