Lost Rings in the Gulf, Orange Beach- FOUND!!!

I owe Matt and Elise an apology for taking so long to post their story but I wanted to make sure that I did them in the right order because Elise’s rings ended up being the 99th and 100th official return since I started doing this. I love thinking back on all of the people I have been able to help. Matt and Elise are the perfect ones for lucky #100 because not only do they have a great story but they are wonderful people!  They have been married for 15 years and were down in Orange Beach with some friends and their family for some well deserved vacation. Elise had gone out in the Gulf with her youngest son William to throw the football when all of a sudden both of Elise’s rings came flying off with the ball. This was the first day of their vacation and it had taken an immediate turn for the worse. Elise noted where she was and came up to the beach and she and Matt immediately began looking online for someone who could help. Luckily, Matt called me and I was eager to help. I made the hour drive and brought my wife Jeannie. She has been my lucky charm and I thought it only right that she be there for the potential 100th return. When we got there Matt and Elise pointed out where they were and I quickly realized that the knee deep water was out where the sand bar drops back off into the Gulf. Nevertheless, I set a bearing on a distant condo and began my grid search. Meanwhile Jeannie talked to Matt and Elise and tried to calm their fears. She learned that they had a true love story. Matt is a farmer and back years ago he saved his money and went and bought these rings for Elise and got down on one knee. Now it had been so long that Matt didn’t even remember what the rings were made out of. I think that is a perfect example of the kind of irreplaceable things I get to find. It doesn’t matter what they are made out of or the monetary value. It’s the memories and the sentiment that make them absolutely invaluable. Meanwhile, back in the Gulf, I had my machine turned wide open so I could hear everything and I was on a mission. An hour later though, I only had one dime to show for it and everyone was getting worried. A man waded out to talk to me and explained that he was going to try and find it with his feet. I tried to be nice and explain that he was kind of hurting the situation and not helping but he was not to be deterred so I went around him. After expanding the area a bit I had Elise go over again where she thought it might be. I told her that there was no way it had rolled up the bar but if she had flung it far enough it might be a little shallower. The man had finally left after a fruitless search so I started there and proceeded to work shallower. Finally, out of nowhere, I hear the screaming sound of gold in my ears. In a millisecond, I knew that not only were these the rings, but they were together, right on top and they were almost certainly gold. I very gently scooped down deep to make sure I didn’t scratch one and pulled out both rings in one scoop, together like they were meant to be. Y’all, I can’t even explain the excitement and the disbelief and happiness that proceeded to radiate from that beach when I walked out. I hope the next 100 are every bit as meaningful!  By the way, the rings are 18k and diamonds, just as awesome as the people they belong to. Congratulations Matt and Elise and thank you for trusting me with your memories.

Lost and found gold diamond wedding band in Cobourg Ontario

Received a text from Amir yesterday about his wife having lost her diamond wedding band while at the beach in Cobourg Ontario. She had taken her ring off to apply sun tan lotion and placed it on their beach blanket. Seeing friends down the beach, they quickly picked up their belongings and relocated. A short while later, she realized that her ring was gone. They all tried to find the ring in the sand but were not successful. Normally, this would be a quick and fairly easy recovery. However, Amir did not find my information/services until a week had gone by since she’d lost her ring. My biggest fear was that there are a lot of metal detectorists that searches this beach every single day and the ring might of been picked up. Still, we had to try. After exchanging information and details via Google Earth, I headed out last evening to find it. Although the beach was still fairly busy with people and after careful gridding for two and a half hour, I was able to locate her ring. Thank god it was still there. Amir has requested not to have their picture posted due to privacy.  Beautiful evening, did not have to get wet Scuba diving and another happy ending. Life is good.

Shay had been running on the beach in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, when the medallion slipped off as the necklace clasp came undone. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t locate the treasured item. The following morning, I joined Joe and Shay for a thorough search of the area. After gathering more details on the situation, I successfully found the precious medallion that belonged to Shay’s mother. With the medallion found, they could enjoy the rest of their day in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

Lost Wedding Band Found Ocean City NJ by Ring Finders South Jersey John Favano

Just a day before, Rhett and Meredith were married. Family members from different corners of the country gathered to witness their beautiful ceremony. The day after the wedding, they decided to visit Ocean City, NJ, where some relatives and friends were staying in order to spend quality time with them. Both Rhett and Meredith wore distinctive wedding bands – Rhett wore his late father’s wedding band that was hand-made by his mother.

While playing in the ocean with his nieces and nephews, Rhett suddenly realized that his wedding ring had slipped off his finger and vanished beneath the waves. Distressed, he called me later that night, and we decided to meet at the beach the next day around low-tide in hopes of finding the lost ring. I gathered more details about where the ring might be and initiated my search. I started in waist-deep water and worked my way toward the shoreline. In just about ankle-deep water, the metal detector let out a sharp sound. I scooped up a handful of sand and there it was, the family heirloom! Recovered!

Rhett was overjoyed and relieved as he gave me a hug. The ring held immeasurable sentimental value for him. It will now be able to be honored and cherished for years to come.

“Ben and I had a much needed weekend getaway! The main reason for our weekend trip though was to get my wedding rings back. About a month ago, we went to the beach with our family and friends. While I was in the ocean throwing the football with Ben, the football hit my left hand and my engagement ring and wedding band went flying through the air into the ocean. We looked for it forever. How To Find a Lost Wedding Ring? In Post Falls, Idaho… Found It!

Sometimes problems randomly come your way. Sometimes you create them by your own hand and they smack you in the face. For Brandon that hand that created his problem, now sat hovering over a keyboard. The word Brandon was searching for escaped his vocabulary. So he asked Google “what do you call a person who metal detects?” “A detectorist “, Google answered. Brandon now had a title to call someone who metal detects. Now he needed a name to go with that title. Google gave him mine and Brandon called me. Brandon asked me if I am able to be hired or rent out my metal detector? I told him “I was a professional metal detector specialist and yes you can hire me”. Continuing the conversation we discussed his situation.  Without hesitating Brandon told me he threw his ring, and no he wasn’t playing baseball. After setting up a date a few days ago, I finally made it out to his house. We sized up the search area, which was on the other side of the street in the neighbor’s yard. After swinging over all of the bushes Brandon showed me his best guess as to the splash down spot of the ring. I grid searched that area. Then began to grid search the two conjoined yard of Brandon’s neighbors. After Brandon had to take off to an a.m. appointment, his neighbor and I had a friendly conversation while I searched. Just as we were discussing the economy, I got a solid 20-21 vdi. Looking down I could see a dark rim poking through the grass. With complete shock and disbelief picked up his ring and realized his ring sat where it landed in the middle of the yard for a month. Lawn mowers, rain, and people all had been near and on top of that ring. However it remained untouched until I swung over it. What a crazy story that ring could tell if it could talk. Happily ever after would be it’s final words as Brandon slipped it back on his finger. Thank you man for trusting in The Ring Finders. Also being so happy, even after I did a Chris Turner fake out on you while giving the ring back.

Sea Isle City NJ Lost Class Ring Found by Ring Finders South Jersey John Favano

Blake and her friend spent a day at the beach in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Before applying sunscreen to her nephew, Blake removed her cherished class ring and placed it safely in her bag. Unfortunately, she later discovered that the ring had gone missing. In a panic, Blake’s mother, Alexa, contacted me for assistance in locating the lost gold class ring.

After gathering vital information from Alexa and speaking to Blake over the phone, we were able to pinpoint the areas where they had spent time on the beach – initially near the water and later further back in their chairs. Ready with these essential details, I embarked on my search utilizing my trusty metal detector.

 

As I meticulously followed a grid pattern from the water’s edge towards their second seating area, I took advantage of the low tide, which enabled me to search shallow waters. After approximately 30 minutes of diligent searching, my Excalibur detector emitted the distinctive growl for gold, leading me to finally uncover the lost class ring!

 

Alexa called Blake and delivered the delightful news of their keepsake’s recovery!

Sentimental Silver Ring Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned Ocean Isle Beach NC

I got a call about 2:30 pm from an Indiana phone number which could only mean one thing a “Lost Item!” When I answered the phone, Joni, the young lady on the other end said, “my friend lost her ring, can you help?” For some reason I thought she said earring, so I needed details. The biggest question, was it lost in the dry or wet sand, or in the water? She said they were playing volleyball and it came off. Again, I asked just to confirm it was in the dry sand. She said yes. I told her I could be there in about 45 minutes. She was talking to someone in the background and turned back to me and said ok. Still thinking I was looking for an earring I grabbed my Gold Bug detector as well as the Equinox 800 and hit the road.

When I got to the beach and walked off the boardwalk, Gracie came walking up to me. She introduced herself, saying she was the one who had lost the “ring.” Ok, it was a ring I was looking for. Unfortunately, I left my sand scoop in the car figuring it would be of little use with an earring. Gracie walked over to the far side of the court and showed me where she had been standing and how she had hit the ball. She then moved about three quarters left on the court and showed me where a friend had found her identical gold ring in the sand. I started a grid search from where she had been standing and covered that side of the court with no luck. I then moved to the opposite side of the court and searched that entire area and still no ring. It had to be somewhere, so I started a cross grid. When I got to the end of the court, I did about 4 more grid lines in the out of bounds area. I got a strong hit and was confident it was the ring. Without my scoop, I had to get down in the sand and start feeling through the sand for the ring. It took a couple of seconds, but I found it. Gracie was so excited and happy. She shared that her mother bought her that ring when she graduated from the 8th grade, and she’s worn it ever since. So happy to get the ring back to her and continue its story.

Wedding Band and Engagement Ring Lost in the Ocean at Cherry Grove SC

About 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug 6th, I got a text with a picture from Ariel. The text said, “My daughter lost this ring today, in the ocean right in front of 53rd N Myrtle Beach. She also lost her wedding ring which goes with this but she is more concerned with the engagement ring.” I didn’t see the text until about 3 hours later, and responded asking what time and how deep she was. Ariel responded back saying, “It was high tide, around 12:30-1:00 pm. She was waist deep. There is a walk through at 53rd street and we were to the right about 100 feet.” I did a quick check of the tide tables and saw the next low tide was around 6:30 am Monday. I texted Ariel asking if there was a chance that someone could meet me in the morning around 7 am to show me the area. She responded “Absolutely, see you at 7.”

I got there a little early Monday morning and texted Ariel that I was there. I then marked off about a 100 feet and started an east/west grid search. Shortly after that Ariel, her husband Dan, and her daughter Hailey and her husband Justin showed up. I learned the wedding band and engagement were White Gold. This told me I was looking for a low number on the Equinox 800. Combined, they had done everything right. They had used a stationary landmark higher on the beach to mark where Hailey had lost her rings. I repositioned myself another 30 plus feet down the beach and started another grid search. Not too long after that, I got an iffy signal that would occasionally hit a 5. Ok, that’s what I was looking for. I dug a couple of scoops and got the target out of the sand. Earlier, Hailey had explained what the wedding band looked like. After spreading the sand out with my hands, I saw Hailey’s wedding band. They had moved down the beach and came running when I held Hailey’s ring up in the air and called her name. One ring found with one to go. I searched in a 10X10 foot square in and around the hole I dug to find the wedding band with negative results. My thinking was if both rings came off together, then both rings should be within a foot of each other. By now I was losing the tide, so I called Matt Fry, TRF Myrtle Beach and asked if he’d like to help later that afternoon. He didn’t hesitate to lend a hand.

Matt and I both showed up about 5 pm that afternoon ready to find the engagement ring. We split the area in half, he went north and I went south. We’d been out there a while, when a couple of buddies, who were out metal detecting the beach, stopped and joined in on the search. Now there were 4 guys with 3 different metal detectors searching from above the high tide line out to about knee deep and from north to south. We were grid searching, overlapping, and basically searching the entire beach for more than an hour with absolutely no luck. Again, the tide had changed so we called it a night. The 4 of us stood out there trying to figure out what could have happened to the approximate size 3 engagement ring with a pretty good size diamond on it.

I had a hard time letting this one go, so I text Ariel telling her that I wanted to try a different machine, my White’s PI and look again Tuesday evening at around 7 pm. I had another ring search pop up that I thought I could find quickly and still be at Hailey’s spot to search. Things don’t always work out as planned so I rescheduled Hailey’s search for 7 am on Wednesday. Wednesday morning I got there and got the area confused. I grid searched south of the area which worked out because the currents on Sunday, the day of the loss, were running to the south. Ariel showed up just as I was finished and showed me the right area. So I made another trip out with the PI on Wednesday evening and did another grid search and still wasn’t able to find the engagement ring. I just don’t have an answer as to what may have happened to Hailey’s engagement ring.
