*** Ashley’s friend called me called me after Ashley had her two rings washed off beach towel by a rouge wave. The friends were in Laguna Beach, CA. at Emerald Cove when the rings were lost in the sand. I was able to meet them soon after they called.

I couldn’t believe how this happened. This crazy wave came up just the one time, surprising everyone on the beach. Anyway they had a very good idea of where the two rings could be. I was looking forward to a quick recovery. The silver ring was easy but the gold ring didn’t show for about 15 minutes. It was actually buried in the sand next to a spray can of sun block. I didn’t take time to move the sunblock spay can until my second pass.

The rings were very sentimental to Ashley and it was a real treat to see the happiness of having the rings back in her possession. We also got the attention of all the beach goers as the beach was elbow to elbow with people. RingFinder to the rescue.

*** Daniel called me asking for help to find a white gold diamond engagement ring lost in a horse stall. He was actually calling for his neighbor, where he also has horses boarded. The stables are located in Laguna Hills, CA. which is just about a 30 minute drive. He told me that he could meet me at the stables after he purchases a tarp that we could spread the wood shavings. They had gathered 16 large trash bags of wood chips from the tack room floor where the ring had dropped.

Daniel had sifted through 3 of the bags before realizing that it was going to be impossible to search without some type of metal detector. I drove to the stables, arriving before Daniel. Aji, who had lost the ring was there with Daniel’s wife. Aji told me she had put her ring on a self in the tack room and dropped it into the wood shavings when she went to put on.

The ladies showed me the bags of wood shavings and I chose to run my metal detector over the unopened bags before going to the trouble of spreading them on a tarp. Besides Daniel had not returned with the tarp. After scanning a half dozen of the bags, I had one promising signal. I tore a small access hole in the trash bag and probed with my pinpointer. Boom !!! It was Ali’s precious gold and diamond ring.

Both Ali and Daniel’s wife were amazed at how quick the recovery took. Just as I was taking photos of the ring, Daniel showed up with the tarp. He is the real hero because he had the foresight to realize he couldn’t find the ring with his sifting method. He took time to call an experienced metal detectorist. I love a challenge and it took a bit of luck to start at the right set of bags. I thought I’d be looking at a few hours to dump 15 bags of wood shavings on to a tarp to detect over them. A happy dat for all, especially Ali .

*** I got a text from Anthony about an gold diamond engagement ring lost at Santa Monica beach near the pier. It was already 8pm almost too late to make the hour drive to that beach. I texted him back saying, it was important to discuss the circumstances of the loss as soon as possible. That beach is heavily hunted by metal detectorists especially on weekends.

We were able to determine the ring was definitely on Maria’s towel. They were on their way home when Maria realized she had not put the engagement ring back on her finger. Many times I will try a search without the people can’t meet me at the beach. The best information he gave me was that they were not sitting on the towel line. probably the most hunted zones on the beach. I told Anthony that our odds would be better if they could meet me tomorrow, Sunday morning and he agreed.

I was on the beach a day break to start gridding the search area. The Santa Monica  beach crew only pulled a grooming rake with a tractor that morning. Other beaches run their Beach King sifting machine everyday in the summer.

The ring had not shown after an hour of running a tight grid pattern using the verbal directions given to me on our call last night. Then Anthony and Maria walked up to me on the beach. They pointed out a trash can that they were near. I was almost there but they we’re actually way back from the towel line. I moved over about 10 or 15 yards and shortly after starting a new grid pattern I got the signal. The signal is a solid tone in my headphones that happens when a white gold diamond engagement ring is under my detector coil. And one dig with my sand scoop, revealed Maria’s awesome engagement ring. A happy couple drove home with the ring they thought was lost forever.

*** Jorge lost a gold cross pendant in the sand at 1000 Steps Beach which is in the city of Laguna Beach. Someone on the beach suggested that he contact me using TheRingfinders website. He called me telling me what happened.

I told him, I could be at the location in less than an hour. Our chances were good if he stayed there to get me in the general area of the loss.Traffic was not bad which was a good thing.

After descending a couple hundred steps, I met Jorge at the volleyball court. He showed me where his neckless had broken. After a few swings of my detector I got a faint signal. Put the sand scoop to retrieve the signal. BOOM! There was Jorge’s very sentimental gold cross, that had been given to him many years before by his mother.

It was a quick recovery and I was happy to be able to help him. It was a bit tough to climb those 222 steps to the top of the cliff.

*** A lady named Pin had gone to a company beach party at a Newport Dunes Resort. It was a large group of over one hundred people with catered dinner, music and live entertainment. Most of the venue was set up on the sand.  Pin decided to take off her rose gold and diamond wedding ring set and put them in her basket type bag.

After returning home, she couldn’t find her wedding rings in her purse. She assumed that they may have been pulled out when she was taking things out during her 3 hours on the beach. Then she had the thought that maybe somebody had stolen the rings.

Pin called the main office to ask if anyone had reported wedding rings fo lost and found. One of the people at the office gave her my contact information. Pin called me giving me directions to where they had been during the beach party. She was unable to meet me at the location, so I went to the location of the screen shot map she had marked up.

After a couple hours of grid searching without finding the rings I had to leave because of rain. Early the next morning I returned to finish the search. I wasn’t the ten minutes before I got a great signal that turned up two beautiful rose gold wedding rings.

I texted a photo of the rings to Pin and immediately she called me. She was so excited we couldn’t talk much. She asked if I could hold the rings till for a couple days because they were out of town. No problem, we met the next weekend to return her very special rings.

*** Nik had pulled his motor cycle out his garage to do an afternoon ride. As he was preparing his riding attire, his gloves were pinching his left ring finger. He pulled his left glove off with his right hand. Then he heard the ping of his platinum wedding ring hit the asphalt driveway.

He purchase a metal detector from a local sporting goods store. There was only a 2ft wide strip of dirt with a metal cyclone fence. The long dirt area had dried leaves that could hide a ring. The metal fence was 6” above the ground.

Nik was sure the ring flew to the right of where he had been standing. I scanned 50ft to the right and just for a good measure I did 30ft to the left, even though Nik was insistent that the glove pulled the ring flinging it to the right.

After two hours it was getting dark and I was ready to give up. Nik asked me if I could double check the other side of the fence one more time. I agreed even though I felt it was a waste of time. If it made him feel better that was the least I could do. My second attempt on the other side of the fence yielded nothing. Walking back to my car, I was casually swinging the detector when I got a great signal 50ft.in the opposite direction he had believed his ring flew off his finger. It was Nik’s platinum wedding ring.

Here’s what happened. The ring flew off his finger when his left hand popped out of the glove. He thought the ring was in the glove and went to the right as he pulled hid left glove off with his right hand. Confusing, yes, I’m giving up on trying to guess which way rings go when people are throwing things.  Just grid search everywhere, don’t try to figure out which way the ring went.

Nik was very emotional and grateful to have his wedding ring back. It was not looking good after a couple hours in such a easy search area. It’s amazing to see all the crazy places these rings end up.

*** While brushing sand off her shoulder, Deborah’s diamond engagement ring went flying into the sand.  Her husband, Alex had spent fours hours with a metal detector scanning the dry sand. While he was desperately trying to be her hero and find her ring. Deborah found my contact information on a google search. I wish I knew how many people walk away from their lost rings because they couldn’t find them with a beginner’s metal detector that had no idea of how to use.

I got the call from them at about 8pm. We met on a the sand in the dark near a lifeguard tower in Newport Beach. I could tell they were frustrated after so many hours of searching. Alex told me he had no confidence that a metal detector could find a small gold ring in the sand. I gave him a little explanation of how I do ring searches with the most up to date equipment and years of experience using them.

Twenty minutes of grid scanning produced the precious white gold engagement ring. They were ecstatic giving me big high fives. It’s always nice to see how grateful people are when we find their special keepsake. I know the ring probably would not be there if they waited till the next day before calling for help. … Margret was kneeling in the surf near the Balboa Pier when a rouge wave hit her. After recovering from that wave she realized her gold chain with two pendants and a small gold ring were missing. These had been given to her by her father and very sentimental to her.

John, a family friend reached out to call me for help. We met on the beach as the tide was rising a half hour after the loss. Normally our best chance for a recovery is the next low tide. I like to meet as soon as possible to get the best shot at the location before the people leave the beach.

I did pull out my detector to search the incoming tide because there is always a chance the waves may push the items up the sandy slope. After a half hour working to waist deep water I was able to find the small gold ring. Margret was happy to have this ring as it was inscribed. I was able to tell her the lightweight pendants may be difficult to find as the backwash of the waves on this steep sloping beach can take it out of range for my equipment.

I returned for the next two low tides and could not find the two pendants. Actually Margret told me the ring was the most important of the three pieces of jewelry. She had thought it was so small that a metal detector couldn’t find it.

Sorry for the poor photos, I don’t carry a cellphone when I’m searching the surf. I stopped carrying my cellphone after dropping it in the surf while doing a search. ( I couldn’t recover my phone even though I realized it was missing a minute after dropping it) It happen a couple years ago  and it was an expensive search for me.

*** Che is visiting Huntington Beach from Puerto Rico. He was making surf movies on the south side of Huntington Beach Pier. His son was going out with his surfboard for a photo shoot and handed Che his platinum / diamond wedding band to keep safe.

It was just before sunset when they finished the photo shoot. They walked off the beach to the parking lot. That’s when Che’s son asked for the ring. It had slipped off his dad’s finger, somewhere between the waterline and the parking lot. ( more than 150 yards )

A call to me at 8:30pm let us set up a meeting at the location where he had set up his camera tripod.. This is where he had spent the most time and the best place to start before the tide comes in. After a few minutes I got a great signal from something metal in the sand. A quick scoop in the sand revealed the precious and very sentimental platinum wedding band.

Che was very relieved and happy to have his son’s ring to give back. Needless to say he was feeling guilty that he had lost the ring. Now he is the hero for getting a metal detector specialist to find the important ring.
