I was contacted by the mother of the groom who had lost his wedding ring the day after the wedding while throwing a football on the beach. They had come down from Fresno for the ceremony at a club that is right across from the water, and after the loss had to go back home. I asked a lot of questions knowing they would not be able to be there for the search to show me what was done to cause the loss, or where exactly it occurred. After I felt that I had enough knowledge to do the search I was on my way.

When I got there people had already begun to get their spot on the beach, so I had to work around them the best I could. I worked all the area around the people, and then began working down the slope. There wasn’t a lot of trash metal so that made progress faster than usual. I kept working down the slope to the water, and then began in the wet sand. I kept working down the beach until I was in the water when I got a good tone in the head phones. The scoop went in the sand, and came up with a nice white gold ring in it. I called the groom’s mother, and we arranged for her sister to meet me to get the ring, and she would bring it up North later. Another successful recovery!

Almon contacted me in the morning about his lost wedding ring. He had lost it the day before at the beach, and was hoping I could do a search for him. I was available, and let him know I would leave as soon as possible. He let me know that he was unable to meet me for the search, but sent me great coordinates in order to do the search.

I got down to the beach in good time, and before the crowds appeared to enable me to do a thorough search of the area. I went right to the area that Almon had given me, and started my grid. I continued for a while, then decided to send him a photo of where I had searched. He pointed out an area in the photo that I should concentrate on, so I went to that spot and continued. After about 5 passes and multiple pieces of trash metal I got his ring in my scoop. I sent him a text to let him know the good news, and we arranged a time to meet after he got off of work. He was very happy to get his ring back especially knowing that this year was his 10th wedding anniversary.

I had just gotten out of bed in the morning when Molly called. She was very concerned about a ring she had lost the night before, and was asking for help. I asked about the beach, and when she told me, I knew it was one that is cleaned meticulously with machines by the county, so I inquired more about the area, and when she told me that she believed it was lost on the slope down to the water it sounded like a good possibility of a recovery. We agreed to meet there when I was able to wake up and get ready.

We arrived very close to the same time, and found each other. When we looked out over the sand it looked like someone had dragged a 2×4 over the sand, it was smoothed out by the machines, all of it. She showed me where she believed the loss occurred, and it was on the slope untouched by the machines. I began my search in a nice tight grid not finding very much except pieces of aluminum cans. I continued on making sure to cover every inch of ground in order to not miss anything. When after about 6 passes, at the top of the slope, not more than 8 inches from where the machines had gone through I received a real nice signal, dug and there it was, the ring Molly had described. If it had been 8 inches further up it likely would have been gone; luck of the Irish maybe. I held it up, and she ran over very emotional at the sight of it again. She told me that when she was 13 her Irish father gave her that ring, and she has worn it everyday since, so losing it left her emotionally drained. But look at that smile, that’s why we do what we do as Ring Finders; AWESOME RIGHT?!

I got a call from Ethan at about 9:00 PM asking for help in finding a pendant that came off a broken chain in the sand at the beach that day. His girlfriend of 2 months studied a semester in Europe, and brought the pendant back for him which made it very special. He and his friends looked and looked, but were unable to find it. This is one of those beaches that are cleaned daily, so I knew that time was going to be the enemy here, so I told him that I would come right out for a search.

I got to the beach, but we were having a difficult time finding each other because Ethan was from out of town and did not know the area well. I ended up getting stuck in the beach sand while looking for him. Ethan then got his friends together and found me, and helped get my truck out of the sand; a new Ring Finders experience for sure. I followed them back to the area of the loss, and Ethan showed what happened showing the area he believed the pendant might be. The search was quit difficult because it was close to one of the fire pits which had a considerable amount of trash metal and iron making it hard to find a good signal. I searched the whole area with one detector, and then switched to another that I believed might work through the trash better. At about 11:00 PM, and after about 5 passes in one of my diggings, way in the back of my scoop I saw something odd shaped and reached in for it. It was the pendant, which I held out for Ethan. Everybody was elated at the sight of the pendant knowing that Ethan was leaving the next day back home with what he held so dear.

LOST GOLD RING IN THE SAND AT SANTA MONICA BEACH FOUND & RETURNED

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

I was heading back from metal detecting at a local lake Saturday afternoon when I got a call from Alondra, she told me that she lost her ring at the beach in Santa Monica where playing volleyball. I agreed to go & help her after I went home to pick up my salt water detector & grabbed quick snacks. It was already 6:30 pm when I left my house to drive through downtown LA and arrived at the beach just before 8:00 pm, Alondra walked me over to her beach chair & showed me where she thought her ring disappeared into the sand, I detected gridding in the area several times for over half an hour without luck. It was getting dark and she had to leave to meet friends for dinner. I agreed to stay & search a little longer & told her that I’d call if I had any luck. I only had another half hour or so before they locked the parking lot. I knew the ring was wide so I figured that it must have rolled down the beach towards the water, it was the only place left to search, less than 10 minutes of detecting in the water just above my ankles & heard a loud signal, dug & there was Alondra’s ring . I called her to tell her the good news while I was walking off the beach to the cement boardwalk, she was back in less than 10 minutes and was elated to have her ring back. I was thrilled that by not giving up I was able to help bring joy to a nice young couple.

White Gold Ring Lost While Body Boarding Redondo Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

I was contacted by Joe because he had been out body boarding 3 days before, and while out in the water lost his wedding ring. He was having to leave for his home up North in a couple of days. I did not have a lot of hope for this situation, but when we hung up I looked at the tide charts and realized it would be a negative low tide early in the morning. I called back to let Joe know I would attempt a search beginning at about 11:00 PM working into the early morning while the tide was going down. Still it had been 3 days, and he did not know how deep he had been when the ring came off, but he was able to narrow down the stretch of beach he had been on while he was enjoying the day. I readied myself, rested up, and got down to do the search at about 11:00 PM.

There was a nice open swath of sand to search due to the diminishing tide, so the search began at the edge on one side of the area. There was a lot of sand, and very few targets while the search went on. Back and forth over about 100 feet of sand, and silence. Then a signal, the scoop went in, and there was a ring, a Irish type Claddagh ring. Joe had not described the ring to me, so I had to contact him to find out if I had found his ring, it was not his. The search continued, and Joe sent a picture of his ring, a white gold band with beveled edges. Then I found another ring, a child’s diamond looking wedding band made out of very cheap metal, not Joe’s. Pass after pass working up the slope, and silence, then another signal, scooped, turned the head light on, and in the scoop was a Joe’s ring, 12:00 AM. I contacted Joe, and he came out to meet right away to get his lost ring back which I am sure he thought he would never see again. I think his smile says it all.

Joe sent the following testimonial:

Hi Steve!
Joe here.  You found my wedding band almost two weeks ago now down in Redondo Beach.
I wanted to say thank you so much.  From the day I lost my ring bodyboarding to the time I called you was about a 3-day difference.
You hopped on it right away that same night, and found it before midnight!!  I can’t thank you enough for finding this ring for me.  It means the world to me, and I now know never to wear it again in these kinds of activities.  I always thought it would never get lost, until it slid right off my finger without me knowing.
Thank you again Steve!

Aidan contacted me about looking for a special necklace he had lost earlier that day. It was now about 8:00 PM, and I know the county cleans the beach regularly, so I asked him if he would be able to meet me there to show me where he had been when the loss occurred. He said he would check with his mom for a ride as he was coming from Pasadena which is about 30 miles from the beach. He called back to let me know that his mom was more than willing to give the ride, so I agreed to meet them as soon as they could get there.

It was about 9:45 PM when we all got there. Aidan was there with his mom and brother, and he walked me out to the area he had been. He showed me where he had set his things, so I began my grid. Pass after pass, and nothing. Not even very much trash metal. He then said that his friend had moved their stuff to the other side of the Lifeguard tower, so it might have fallen along the way. He then went over to the other side, and asked if I would come over there as well. I did while working in the area they had possibly walked, nothing. He showed me the new area, and I began a new grid. As I searched Aidan walked out over to the bathrooms where the showers were, but I plugged on. Pass after pass, then a really good signal, I scooped, and there in the bottom was a chain with some items attached, it was about 11:00 PM. I looked, and Aidan was pretty far from me, but his mother was on the other side of the tower, so I walked over to her, and said that I think we have looked long enough, and that they should get on their way home. She looked at me with resignation until held my hand out with Aidan’s necklace in it. When she saw it she just ran off yelling for him saying he found it, he found it! I found out that two of those pendants were given him by his mom, one at birth, and the other on another special occasion. The little soccer shoe was given him by a friend who had got it in Italy just a couple of weeks before. What great way to end a day!

Got a call the other night from Lucas about a lost ring. It had happened that day, and he was still at the beach, so I arranged to meet him for a search as soon as I could get there.

When I got to the beach Lucas was waiting for me, and walked me out to the search area. As we walked he informed me that the ring was not his, but a friend’s. As we got close to the area of the loss Lucas introduced me to Josh the gentleman who lost the ring. Josh is a pastor of a local church, and had “Church on the Beach” that day. When the service was finished Josh grabbed his backpack to which he had attached his wedding ring, and somehow his ring fell off the clip it was hooked to. He and his parishioners searched diligently for the ring without success. I turned my detector on and began my grid. One pass, then another, one more and the sound I was waiting for, right in the area they had been searching. I dug, looked in my scoop, and to everyone’s surprise, pulled out Josh’s Ring. Everyone was very excited at the return, as was I. It is always exciting when I have successful recovery.

LOST DIAMOND GOLD ENGAGEMENT RING AT SANTA MONICA BEACH FOUND & RETURNED

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

About 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, I got a call from Kelsie, she told me that her sister-in-law Kristen just lost her ring at the beach in Santa Monica. I agreed to come to help right away, I packed my snacks and drove seventy minutes through downtown LA to the beach. I arrived there just before 3 pm, and met them on the beach. Kristen told me she gave her ring to her husband for safe-keeping before she went into the water, on the way out her husband met her half way from the beach chairs with a towel to dry off. Who said chivalry is dead? They soon realized the ring was gone. I started my search where he headed off with the towel, then three swings with the detector and got a loud solid signal. There it was, glittering in the sun in my scoop. Kristen was so happy to get her ring back. There was a crowd of onlookers surrounding the couple who all cheered when I found the ring.

I was doing some shopping in Costco when I received a call from Igor. It seems he had lost a ring, and was hoping I was available to help him. I let him know what I was doing, but told him that as soon as I was finished, and got the food home I would come to help. That sounded good to him, so I would let him know when I was coming.

When I got to his office area Igor showed me where he believed the loss occurred, and showed me what he did to make the ring come off of his finger. He also said that he had purchased a detector to find the ring, but to no avail. The loss happened about 3 weeks prior, but was in such an area that it was sure to still be there. The area was covered with a good cover of ivy and dead leaves. There were some metal objects, and wires that had to worked around, but there was not too many other metal signals coming from the search. I covered all of the area that Igor had shown me with no luck. With experience I have learned that rings do not do what they appear to do, but sometimes the opposite, so it was time to work out of the box. I began to search behind where he thought the ring went, and got a good signal, reached down with the trusty pin pointer finding Igor’s ring. He was very happy as this was given to him from his wife just a couple months ago. It was sure nice to make his day.

Igor sent the following testimonial:

Jewelry is about many things, not just about a monetary value of it. Most often, it signifies important moments in our lives, and treasured memories, that mean to us more than just a price tag.
I am so thankful to Steve for the selfless service that he provides to make people happy! He found my ring, that meant a lot to me, and interestingly enough, now memory of his help is a part of this ring story as well…
Thank you so much for rescuing my little treasure, and all the best to you!
Igor A. Len
