Heirloom Diamond Wedding Ring Lost .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

I was driving on the Balboa Penensula in Newport Beach after failed ring search when I received a call from Jaimee’s friend. She was at “G” St. on the beach and wanted to know if I was available. I had just  past that location and was four blocks away. I told her I could be there in 5 minutes, but parking on this July 4th holiday would be a problem. They live in the neighborhood so they had a place for me to park. (that’s a miracle).

A short walk on to the beach where they had a large group of friends set up for a big 4th of July beach party. I met Jaimee who showed me where she had lost her diamond wedding ring when she took it off to apply sunscreen. It was an irreplaceable family heirloom past down to her from her great grandmother.

They had the spot marked well but for the last two hours many of the people tried to find the ring. I set up my XP Deus with highest sensitivity and deep settings because it was a thin white gold band with diamonds. It showed up in my scoop after my first signal. Jaimee broke out in tears of gratitude giving me a big hug.

It was one of those times that I believe it wasn’t a coincidence that I was just around the corner when they called.

Lost iPhone in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found with Metal Detector

Chloe and her friends spent 3 hours searching the soft dry sand for her iPhone at Tower 22 in Newport Beach, CA. . Even though thay had activated the Find My IPhone app, the phone had stayed hidden below the sand.

One of Chloe’s friends found my contact information online. When I received the call, I was in my car with my metal detectors a couple miles away from them. The parking lot was full but just as I got to their location a space was open within 25 yards of where they were waiting for me.

The sun was setting and it was beginning to get cold. I started a grid search using my XP Deus metal detector. The phone was found within a few minutes probably 15 to 20ft south of the GPS location. Chloe was ecstatic and very grateful to have her phone back in her hands. All of her friends were also excited about the find after all the energy they burned up trying to find the phone. The smile tells it all.

Engagement Ring Lost .. Huntington State Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

The first thing I do in the morning is check my emails. There was an email sent to me at 11:50pm last night from Hailey saying,  I was her last hope. Yesterday she was at Huntington State Beach between towers 3 and 4 when she lost her diamond engagement ring. I sent her a reply asking her to call me as soon as possible. There was enough information to drive to the location to begin a search.

About a half hour of grid searching a large area, I received a call from Hailey, she told me that she had given the ring to her husband to hold. He put the ring on his pinky finger. Before they left the beach he realized the ring was missing. Several of their friends spent hours search by hand with no success. Then they had to leave because the beach closes at 10 pm, so they left believing the ring was lost forever.

After hearing that story, I was now sure that her ring was in the sand near the towel line. I asked her if she remembered seeing a sand castle on the beach. She told me that they had build a sand castle and was surprised it was still there. That was the clue I needed. It took me a short time to find Hailey’s ring after the phone call. Calling her with the good news and sent her a photo of the ring. She told me how much this ring meant to her and that they still owed $3000 on it.

Hailey was 20 miles away in Anahiem which made it time consuming for her to drive to the beach. Also parking is $25 for this 4th of July weekend which I don’t have to pay because I have an annual State Beach parking pass.

It was a a pleasure to meet and return the beautiful ring to Hailey and her husband later that afternoon.

Mokume-gane Wedding Band Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I was checking my phone earlier today, the 4th of July, and saw that I had received an email from Geoff who explained how he had lost his wedding ring yesterday while playing with his daughter in the surf at the beach in the early evening. I could tell there was an air of desperation in his email, because it was lost yesterday, and also in the surf, he wasn’t sure it could be found. I called him to find out more about the loss. When he told me about the loss, and where he was, as well as the tide at the time of the loss, I was hopeful for a recovery. I told him I would be there as soon as I could get there, the timing was right as it would be low tide in about 2 hours.

I was amazed that I was able to find parking close to the area of the loss on this holiday. I met Geoff and his family at the strand, and we headed out to the area of the loss. Geoff explained how he had paced off the area the previous day, which took us to where he remembered the loss taking place. He also explained how he and his wife had come back at 1:30 AM in order to search at the low tide hoping the ring would be visible. It must have been tough and discouraging to be at the beach at such an early time with only flashlights looking for something that would have already sunk down probably 6 inches. I started to search, setting a grid on the slope to the water. I worked one way with no luck, so I went to work on the other side. I was working the sand right where the water was coming over my feet when I received a signal, dug and found a penny. I kept looking in the same area, when I got a real good signal, dug down, and when I pulled the scoop out the ring was showing, so I reached down and brought it up to show Geoff. He couldn’t believe it, and I got hugs from both he and his wife. To see such joy is what this is all about. I told Geoff I was going home to start my Bar B Q. He thanked me for coming while I could have been grilling, when told him there was no way my ribs meant as much to me as his ring meant to him, and that it was my pleasure to help him.

Diamond Wedding Band Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned!

I was on the road last night about 9:20 PM when I received a call from Chelsey. She had lost her wedding band at the beach earlier in the day. She had gone surfing, and wisely took her ring off and left it in her beach bag. When she and her family were getting ready to leave she noticed that another piece of her jewelry had fallen from the bag. She then picked up her towel, and shook the sand from it, the ring was gone. I wasn’t far from the beach, and told her I could be there in 20 minutes, she needed more time, as she was at dinner with her family, so we arranged to meet at 10:15 PM at the beach.

I was waiting as Chelsey and her family rolled up. There was about 7 of them, and we all made our way down to the spot of the loss. Well it was dark now, which made it harder to judge landmarks, so we had to widen the search area. The other problem was that the tide was super high, and as I searched the water would come up and wipe out my grid lines, so I had to pay close attention to where I had already searched in order to cover the area correctly. Chelsey and her family also brought along lights, sifters and colanders to continue the search they had begun earlier. The humor entered into it for me as I looked around, yet I did not say anything until the ring was found, that it looked like a Paleontology convention as everyone was spread around on the sand with their lights and sifters delicately searching for Chelsey’s ring.

I searched for about an hour, moving further out, and closer to the water than they had told me, and could see at times that there was concern that I should be staying in the area they felt sure of, and I understand that feeling. I have been doing this long enough though to know that sometimes the ring isn’t always where the person thinks it is, so I usually persist, and work out of the box, or color outside of the lines so to speak. Well I decided to work much closer to the edge of the slope down to the water when I got a real good signal in the head phones. I dug, and in the scoop was Chelsey’s ring; 11:30 PM. I lifted it up, and was immediately stormed by the entire family, who lined up to give me a hug. WHAT GREAT JOY RESTORED! What a great opportunity to be a help; love it!

Hand Made Wedding Ring Lost at Newport Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Last Friday I woke up early to go surfing, the waves had been real good, and it had been a while since I had been. I looked at my phone and noticed I had an email. I opened it and there was an email from Shane who had lost his wedding ring the day before, which had been sent at 1:00 AM. Well scratch the surfing, I had someone to help. I knew that an email sent that early in the morning meant someone who was having a hard time for sleep, and seeking any way to get the ring back. I answered his email, and he got back with me not long after. He explained that he had been playing Frisbee, and believed the ring came off when he threw the disk. We arranged to meet at the beach, and I was on my way.

When I got to the beach, I met Shane, and he took me out to the area where the loss occurred. I could see that he had made grid marks in the area he remembered. We discussed what had happened, and I set out some cones to mark a beginning grid (the area was pretty big). I began to search. I went over the entire coned off area, no ring. I then widened the search to overlap Shane’s own grid marks, no ring. I then went out of the grid area quite a bit thinking that his throwing action might have been a little more severe than he believed it was, no ring. I got with him again, was there anything you might have done to have lost the ring? He told me he had been with the children digging on the slope, sounded likely, searched the slope, no ring. Enter now Shane’s mother, she got with him to explain that she thought he was playing Frisbee even more out of the area we had been searching, so we decided to do a search in the place she recommended. After about 3 passes and 3 and 1/2 hours of total searching, my head phones exploded in sound, I dug, and in the scoop was color, pure color. I put it on my index finger so that when turned to face Shane it would be the first thing he saw. When he did a great big smile came on his face as he exclaimed “I can’t believe it”. Everyone else around came up and wanted to see the ring, which turned out to be 22 karat, or almost pure gold, that had been hand carved in wax by his bride to be, to be poured and finished as her token of her love for him.

Shane and his wife had just celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary just 14 days before, so this recovery meant so much more, WOW this was fun. So much joy this day, flowing in the sands of Newport Beach. What a great day, love it!

Lifeguard Needs Help Finding Lost Ring in Sand.. Monarch Bay, Laguna Beach, CA.

Last week I did a 6 hour unsuccessful ring search at 1000 Steps Beach in the town of Laguna Beach,CA. I met Max who is an Orange County Lifeguard. He was curious about why I was grid searching the whole beach. I had been called about a ring the was dropped in the sand two days before and the people were not able to meet me. They did send me a marked up satellite screen shot. I told him I was a member of TheRingFinders and gave him my contact information.

Today Max called me needing my help for his custom silver ring lost in the sand right in front of his lifeguard tower. He couldn’t spend hours searching for it because he has to be ready to save lives. Today he was working Monarch Bay Club beach.
It was a 20 minute drive for me. Parking was a snap because security heard I was going to help one of the lifeguards. Max showed me the location and we got to work. Second signal put Max’s ring in my scoop. Couldn’t talk much because the beach was busy.
A happy lifeguard with his ring that was purchased as a memory of a trip to Mexico several years ago. Another fun search.

Diamond Wedding Ring Lost .. Emerald Bay, Laguna Beach, CA. .. Recovered from Sand

Kevin called me last night to inquire about my metal detecting service after finding me on TheRingFinders website.
His daughter was at the Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, CA. searching for her wedding ring as we spoke. He said he would call in the morning if she didn’t find it. I was ready to leave right now because I knew she was waisting her time.
I did get the call the next morning setting up a place to meet. The location was five miles from my home, nice for me. Kevin told me that his daughter thought she removed the ring from her finger to apply sunscreen to her husband. ( #1 cause of rings lost on beaches .. IMO )
It was an easy search because Kevin was able to get me to the exact location and there was a ring to be found. Kevin stayed about 30 yards away to give me space to do my thing. He said he saw me hesitate for a second before scooping up the ring. He was so excited to take a picture of the ring sending it to his daughter right away.
I didn’t know till after the find that they were not sure that this was where she lost the ring. They only believed it was possibly there after checking photos taken during the day.

Two Silver Rings Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

Late in the afternoon Zach called, his girlfriend had lost two silver rings in the sand. She did the sunscreen trick. Take the rings off to put them on the towel while applying sunscreen. Then forgetting to put them on. I believe that there is something in sunscreen that makes people forget to pick up their rings. This is probably the number one ring loss story on our beaches.

I asked where he was and if he could meet me there at lifeguard tower 32 in Newport Beach. No use talking on the phone when I could be there in 15 minutes. We met where he had the area well marked. A few swings with my XP Deus and both rings showed up in my sand scoop. Zach said he waisted a couple hours trying to be the hero that found the rings. He was the guy that found TheRingFinders website and called me. Took a few photos then headed home to surprise Paige by returning her rings.

These short searches are nice, especially after having two other searches this week that were more than five hours each without success. We can’t find them if they aren’t there. It kind of averages out. I like to call it like winning the lottery. Our odds of finding a lost ring are better than the lottery but you have to try. Plus sometimes you can help by eliminating an area so the person can search other locations.

Engagement Ring Dropped in Sand while Proposing .. Hermosa Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

I got a late call from Damir asking me for help. He had just proposed to his fiancé, Ellie on the sand in Hermosa Beach. In the excitement of the moment Ellie dropped the diamond engagement ring in the sand.
Dry sand is unforgiving and will hide a ring from searching fingers forever. I did not waste time discussing anymore on the phone. Just asked them to text me the address and I’d be there within 45 minutes. I also told them not to worry. If they can get me on the general spot, we could find the ring.

When I arrived at 14th Street in Hermosa Beach I could see a police car on the beach with Damir and Ellie standing there in the cold breezy night air. I introduced my self, looked at the 20 x 20′ area. I decided to start the grid diagonally, just because? Straight line to the opposite corner, BAM! Diamond Engagement ring in the scoop. Everybody was amazed, the police officer had a look that I’ll never forget. Similar to the look people give when somebody does a magic trick. It was cold so we all took a few quick photos and headed home. It was almost midnight and everyone concerned will sleep good this night.
