Customer reached out to me to help locate their front property iron. They are doing some landscaping on their pie shaped lot and wanted to make sure they weren’t encroaching on their neighbor. Metal detecting revealed the typical 30 yr old rebar used to set property boundaries, all intact, no tilting, position looks the same as the day it was set.

Well don’t get too excited…. because this pictured, pretty, young lady and her friends were making a scene of their own yesterday after work.
Taking advantage of the mid 90’s temps in the Detroit area they decided to visit a favorite spot to cool off, complete with a rope swing hanging from a sturdy tree. When I got there today it totally reminded me of the old swimming holes with the tires hanging off a spindly rope that as a kid I would love to sneak off to. Add to that a docked pontoon boat and as I searched, the scent of a charcoal grill with burgers and hotdogs cooking drifting across the water was the true smells of summer that made me realize how short the summer season is.
She recalled swinging out a few times and on the last swing she noticed hers rings were gone! I grid searched the area and looking down in the clear water I saw the shape of a ring on the sandy bottom just barely under the surface. As my coil went over the shape it sang out scoop me! Pulling up the scoop filled with sand and swishing it in the water revealed these 2 beautiful white gold rings! I held them up to her and from the shore I swear she walked on water to get to them! She and her friends were totally thrilled and asked me to join the club, and without hesitation I did and have never felt so ….. COOL !!

A Happy Tail!
This pretty, pictured young lady and her dog Dracula were out walking today exercising his recently injured elbow. Prepared with treats and toys they set out on their usual route. Her hand in her pocket, the other on the leash and in amongst the tug of war rope and other interesting dogs at the park, Dracula pulled and bolted towards some potential new furry friends and her keys fell out of her pocket. Quite distraught as this was her full set to lock/unlock everything the thought of further play was replaced with her searching for them to no avail in the large shaggy grass area in question. Add to this the groundskeeper was scheduled to mow the grass. He agreed to hold off a bit until I got there to search.
I chose to start the search at the end of their walk and work backwards based on her description of the events. Sweeping the coil quickly over large areas of grass I got the usual junk signals typically encountered at a park. After about 10 min I got a good signal at about 3″ deep which would put a target at or near the ground surface cus’ the grass being so deep. Checking the target with my pin pointer revealed her set of keys! Her back was to me quite far away so I started to shake the keys and she turned around, came running back to me with dog in tow and as she took them from me, Dracula’s tail was going wild showing his excitement of the find, a happy tail….reassuring us that all was well again!

I Dig Chicks With Sparklers!
The pictured couple was enjoying the 4th of July today playing with a RED ball under WHITE cloudy skies in a pool of BLUE water with their little FIRECRACKER daughter. She’s extremely active and full of energy and was described as having the energy of a hummingbird. As they were in the pool she threw the ball out of the pool onto the grass. Mom got out and upon returning the throw her engagement ring came off. When we talked they had been using a toy type metal detector so I said I can come by and wanted to make their 4th of July a better day. When I got there, chatting with mom where the ring may have fell off the lil’ daughter was zapping around the yard just like what they said. I started a grid search and it didn’t take too long when I got “the signal” we detectorists refer to as “the one”! Pinpointing with my Garrett carrot revealed this beautiful SPARKLER showing itself to me from the dark grass, mesmerizing me momentarily with it’s beauty making me feel like I wish time could stand still a bit longer! Mom came running over and reached down and pulled the ring from the grass totally ecstatic and frantically jumping up and down. Fiancee’ followed and their energy displayed was a different kind of FIREWORKS! I thanked them and they thanked me and I wished them the best in their new journey together pursuing their American dream and keeping the American Spirit Alive!

Lady Speed Walker
The pictured lady was out on a stroll this evening and her ring came off. When I talked with her we agreed to meet and search the areas where she thought it came off. She remembers it hitting the pavement and thinking it rolled into the grass not far from her house. I searched the grass areas with the MXT from where she remembers it falling off to her house, prob 1/8 of a mile, no ring signal. Darkness was upon us and I told her I would return in the morning at sunrise. I drove off wondering if someone found it. As I got near the street corner approx. 1/4 mile from her house I saw something shining back at me as the headlights got closer. I thought it was a coin, after I stopped and approached the object it was the diamond in her 18k rose gold ring sparkling in my headlights! I couldn’t believe it! I called her and said how fast can you get to the end of the street and it seemed only a minute as she zoomed down the street and was reunited with her ring!

Volleyball Couple Scores Big Time!
The pictured couple was at their company volleyball tournament and Husband noticed his ring was a bit loose so he put it in his shorts.
They were giving it their best performance and as they rotated around the court, taking net shots, backwards volleys and falling to the ground they just had a few more points to take the championship. As dusk was upon them the last volley soared over the net and never made it back over..hitting their opponents sand. They got their win! It wasn’t till they got home he checked his pocket and no ring. When I talked with him yesterday they were totally devastated as the ring had been passed down from a few family members and the loss of it weighed heavy on his mind, the volleyball win not seeming as important as it was a few hours earlier. We agreed to meet today and I didn’t know he had it in his pocket during the game as I thought it flew off his finger. So this made the search area smaller as he was only on one side. It took just a few min with the MXT to get a solid signal. I was looking for something a bit deeper than surface due to the ring being trampled during the game and I got a solid signal with a depth of 3″ and since there was no junk metal I knew this was the signal I was looking for and probing down this very unique ring revealed itself through the grains of sand! Now the couple had their gorgeous ring and winning smiles back….. along with a championship to cherish together!

In Less Than A Week….
….this pictured couple are to be married! But last Friday night the bride to be was hangin’ out with the bridesmaids and Saturday after waking up her engagement ring was missing! I talked with her Sunday and we agreed to meet today to search. The wedding date was now 4 days out. The stress of the loss was taking it’s toll on them. She last remembered having it on between the car and house and after getting into the house went right to sleep. She said she keeps it in a jar at night as it fits looser than it used to due to her amazing weight loss. So to start I wanted to eliminate areas so I searched the grass areas where she remembers walking but the MXT remained silent.
Our next step would be to check in the house. They had thought they covered all the areas where they thought it may be so I asked if she remembered anything upstairs before crashing and she showed me where the jar was where she usually keeps it. This helped us narrow down where it may be. I then suggested that we check thru the dresser drawers and clothes nearest the container. Scanning the contents of the second drawer down and between 2 shirts this gorgeous ring was hiding! She exclaimed in excitement that it was found and you could see all the stress just melt away! She remembered having the drawers open and moving clothes around quickly and she must have thought she put it in the jar but it slipped off. So now the upcoming celebration will be complete with all the emotion going in a positive direction as they begin their new life together!

Happy Mother’s Day!
About 3 weeks ago I went to search a large field with this nice lady who’s ring came off her friends finger while doing some aerial drone photography. The ring was designed and constructed in Morocco when her and husband were on honeymoon. It has layers of exotic wood from the area sandwiched between a mix of gold/silver! The search area was quite large and we walked the area where they thought they were, we even looked at the drone video where she was but nothing came up. They had to leave and it was getting near dark so I told them that I would come back and take another look. Before I left I took some reads with my dowsing rod and made notes of my locations and landmarks. I picked up on a attraction and noted it was not the area they had filmed. I was in the area for work a week ago and went back to the site only to find the area flooded from heavy rains in the Detroit area. Not wanting to give up on what I want in life, I searched again today with the dowsing rod and got the same general area but was able to triangulate from another direction and intersect the area of attraction. I started to think that it was possible the ring came off either before they filmed or after as they had passed thru here going in and exiting. The grass was even deeper prob 5″ so I fired up my MXT and started to grid search the area of interest from dowsing. I was getting so much junk signals that I turned up the discrimination right up to nickel, knowing the ring was 50% gold 50% silver I would still pick up the ring. I also took a read from my silver and gold coin combined and got a 36-40 read on the MXT so I was watching for that on the meter. Searching for abt a half hour I found a quarter which was totally out of place and a good clue I was in the right area and thought that it prob came out of one of their pockets and perhaps where the ring came off as well. Then I thought well maybe the coin was what the dowsing rod picked up on even tho I was focused on the ring and what I knew about it. A few more swings with the MXT and a very weak signal and 40 read came up and swinging from opposite direct a 36 came up and 3″ depth. Probing with the pinpointer I felt it hit a chunky piece of metal and spreading the grass open revealed this beautiful ring, tipped sideways, and the most unique one I have found so far! Check out the detail on this specimen…quite stunning! I poked a small branch in the ground where I found the ring and it was only a few feet off from where the dowse lock line indicated. I texted her a pic and said happy mothers day and after a few minutes I got about 20 texts of excitement! She couldn’t meet today but we have plans to meet over the next 2 days so I can return her one of a kind ring and a make a nice memory on a very special mother’s day!

10 Years Age Progression
A huge amount of people worldwide go missing each year, but it’s always great when you read about a missing person being found, even tho you may or may not be the family members or friend of the missing person, today’s media coverage let’s you be right there with the details of whats going on, much more personal than before the internet.
Even tho an inanimate object like a ring is not a living person, when a piece of jewelry goes missing, the sentimental and emotional feelings a person has about that and the person whom it belonged to can take on the feelings of it being a living thing.
The story of this missing ring started ten yrs ago when the pictured lady’s husband was mowing grass and it came off. They searched off and on to no avail and her husband passed away a few yrs later. Late Nov. of 2018 I got in touch with her and went out to search only to find frozen ground. She wasn’t quite sure of the metal type either white gold or silver. She had an old picture of it when it was new (1st pic) and I thought ok well I will look for both metal ID’s and ignore everything else. It has 4 small diamonds on it and I thought it was white gold cos’ not too many people put diamonds in silver settings but there are some that do. I took some notes on signals I got and we decided to search again in the spring. Today I grid searched the area where she remembered him saying he was when the ring came off. I had to clear quite a bit of junk to get thru as I wasn’t sure how far down the ring may have settled over the years but I did have a number I was looking for on the MXT from past searches. The soil was black as coal and silty but the ground was damp and easy to dig. As I swept the coil I got a repeatable, sharp and short signal +12 with a reading about 3″ deep and decided to dig. As I was pinpointing, the signal kept saying I’m here plz find me! Moving dirt to the side of the hole I saw a silver object with nice contrast against the soil shining back at me happily that it was soon to be free from it’s entombment.
I waved for her to come to the back and I have never seen a person run so fast! She looked down into the hole and pulled the ring from the earth and looked at me and no words were needed as to how thrilled she was! So after 10yrs the rings rhodium coating got dulled a bit as can be seen in the pics, but other than that it was in great shape. As I was packing and cleaning my gear it was nice to listen to her call her friends and family members announcing that the spirit of this very sentimental ring and family member was reunited with it’s loving family…..back where it belonged!

Alley OOPS!
During halftime Saturday between Michigan and Michigan State the pictured man and his children hit their backyard court for some 2 on 2 hoopin’ and during the excitement as he caught the passed ball with feet up off the ground to slam dunk his tungsten palladium ring flew off.
Minutes were ticking away before the second half of the real game was back on and as he sat down he noticed the ring missing. So for a couple days he reenacted what was going on and couldn’t find the ring. Part of the trajectory they thought put the ring out into the road area and a grass island.
They even raked up last Octobers leaves and still no ring. When I talked with him Tuesday night we agreed to meet today and go over the area with my metal detector. He was at work and was going to be on his way so a relative and I went over where they thought the ring could be. It didn’t take me long to sweep the area in question with my bigfoot coil but nothing came up. The relative went back into the house for a few while I thought out a new strategy. Since I covered where they thought it could be I thought maybe someone saw it in the street and walked off with it. But my feeling was to check back behind the net and wood privacy fence. As I did a grid search I was running out of ground when suddenly about 10 feet from the back of the net I got a nice +47 signal and I knew from past tungsten ring finds this had to be it! Firing up the Garrett carrot and running it over the grass I got a nice vibration and sifting thru the grass and leaves revealed this stunning tungsten and palladium ring! I texted him the pic as he was already on the road coming home and was super thrilled! So even tho their team didn’t get the win, we had a real win on the home court…turning March Madness to March Gladness!
