This ring hunt began on November 11, 2018 when I got a text from Paul from Moreno Valley California. While on vacation and enjoying the day boogie boarding in Aulani Lagoon Paul’s Gold Ring slipped off and disappeared in about 8 feet of water. Paul told me his wife bought the ring for him while on their Hawaii honeymoon 20 years ago. I figured this would be an easy scuba hunt. I searched at least three times on scuba in the area Paul thought it was lost but I didn’t find his Gold ring. Then this past Saturday while scuba detecting for another ring in the Aulani lagoon I found what I thought was Paul’s ring. It had been nearly 5 months so I texted a picture to Paul to confirm. Bingo! It was the ring indeed. I mailed the ring on April Fool’s Day and as you can see in the pic above the ring is back on Paul’s finger in California today. So glad to make this return. This ring find began when I got a text from Mark who was vacationing on Oahu from Calgary Canada. While enjoying the day at Kawela Bay he was hitting a volley ball to his daughter on the beach when during one of the returns he felt his Platinum Wedding Band fly off. He wasn’t exactly sure but was fairly certain it went into the shallow water along the beach. Not greater than 3 feet deep. Since it was late we decided to meet at the Bay at first light. When I arrived Mark was already there so we went straight to the beach. I started in the wet sand and worked my way into the water. The wet sand was sterile and I didn’t find a single target. But as I entered the water at the low tide mark the Equinox started going crazy with tones. Every piece of metal trash was waiting for me. Knowing a decent size Platinum Ring had been 16/17 on the Nox I decided to ignore the other targets. Occasionally and more often then I preferred I had to dig some trash and that was taking some time. After about 45 minutes I could see Mark was getting nervous I hadn’t found the ring. The hunt area was only 20 feet into the water but I decided to start a little deeper. After about 15 minutes I got a banging tone 16/17 on the Nox. I scooped once and there in the scoop was Mark’s ring but I wasn’t sure it was his as he didn’t describe the grooves to me. I said I think I found it and Mark confirmed with enthusiasm that it was indeed his ring. Vacation back on track. Aloha to Mark!

This ring find began when a young lady approached me in the water detecting and asked if I could find her girlfriend Christina’s Wedding Ring in the sand on the beach where they were enjoying the sunny day. I said sure and followed her over to the area. She introduced me to Christina whose husband is currently deployed overseas on the USS Preble Guided Missile Destroyer. While sitting on a blanket Christina lifted a towel in which her ring was in over her head and the ring flew out into the sand and disappeared. We cleared out the area of towels and beach stuff and I started my search. In 10 seconds I got a steady 5/6 on the Equinox just over the blankets edge. One small scoop and there was Christina’s wedding ring in the scoop. Total elation and relief was her reaction especially on how quick I found the ring. Lets just say I’m a decent operator with an awesome Equinox! Aloha to Christina.

This ring find began when I got a call from Janet from Montana who was celebrating her 25th Anniversary with her husband Luis at the Marriott Ko Olina. While snorkeling in Nai’a Lagoon, Luis spotted some Anuenue fish and in his excitement his stunning Gold & Diamond Band came off in about 10 feet of water. He had his wits about himself to immediately locate where he was in the water. He noticed he was about 10 feet from the swim buoy anchor however the water on the bottom was murky and he couldn’t see his ring. When they got ashore and spoke to the concierge she said to give “Joe” a call and he should be able to recover it for you. We met on the beach the next morning and Luis gave me the details to the ring coming off. When the sun was shining on the lagoon I commenced my scuba hunt. The buoy anchor is easy enough to find so I started the hunt. I immediately found a silver ring. Fanning out from the buoy anchor I found a few more targets but the area was silting up fast and it was difficult to navigate. After about 40 minutes I was getting ready to give up when several feet from the anchor I got a screaming low tone on the Excalibur. Sure enough one sweep of my hand and Luis’ Gold Ring appeared. It was quite a bit farther then expected from the anchor but at least it was now found. I still had plenty of air so I hunted the lagoon a bit more finding a silver band and a gold plated heart ring. When I got ashore I called Luis and Janet and told them the good news. We met on the beach for the return and after a few hugs I knew the Anniversary was saved. Aloha to Luis & Janet!

This ring find began when I got an email Wednesday night from Pat who lives on Oahu. During a family visit from Seattle they decided to enjoy a day at Ko Olina Lagoons. Pat was snorkeling towards his sister when his white gold wedding band came off his finger in about six feet of water. He could see the ring lying in the sand at the bottom but when he dove down to get it the ring disappeared into the soft white sand. Another gentleman joined in to help but all the sand fanning wouldn’t expose the ring to them. Pat went ashore and was frantically trying to find an underwater metal detector to rent when he found TheRingFinders. After which he sent the email. I called Pat and told him I could meet him at the lagoons Friday morning to search for the ring. I decided it would be best for scuba because I can cover more ground in water deeper then my head that way. Pat showed me the general area and I started my search. After about 45 minutes and the search area complete I found only a few coins and two rings but not Pat’s. We consulted on the beach as to what direction to continue and Pat thought maybe since he was going towards his sister I should continue that direction also. It paid off. About ten minutes later I got a booming tone on the Excalibur and with one scoop of my hand there was Pats wedding ring. I popped up and yelled to Pat on the shoreline. “Got it!” Pat was extremely relieved and said his wife would be just as happy as he was at that moment. Best hobby in the world! Aloha to Pat!

This ring find began while I was returning from an iPhone hunt in the Aulani Lagoon. A tourist lady mentioned to me while I was returning to shore that a young girl had lost her heirloom ring in shallow water the day before right near the area I was in the water. I told her I would hunt for the ring after I got out of my scuba gear and would let Aulani Security know if I found it. I returned a short time later with my Equinox and started a grid search. When I was on about the third leg a young lady met me on the shoreline and asked if I could hunt for her ring. Her name was Anna and she was on vacation from Cleveland, Ohio celebrating her parents 25th Anniversary at the resort. I told her the encounter I had with the lady in the water and at that moment she appeared. That’s her there. We all had a good laugh then I resumed the search. On about the ninth leg I got a decent tone and in one scoop there was Anna’s stunning ring. I looked ashore and nodded to Anna that I found it and she was overcome with joy. She came out into the water and gave me a big hug and was so thankful. I found out later that the ring was passed down to her from her Grandfather and was very sentimental and the thought of losing it was tearing at her heart. Anna can now enjoy her Hawaiian vacation. This ring find began when I got a call from Kyle from Cincinnati, Ohio. While enjoying his honeymoon with his lovely wife Kim in the cool waters of the Disney Lagoon his ring came off in about five feet of water and disappeared. He rented a snorkel and searched but the ring succumbed to the soft sand. I told Kyle I would be at Aulani early the next morning to search for a phone and we coud meet up then for the hunt data. After showing me the area I told Kyle to enjoy his morning and that I would call him if/when I found his ring. Later that morning, on about the second leg of the grid search I found a Gold Men’s Wedding Band but it wasn’t the ring I was looking for. This happens quite often actually. On about the seventh leg I got another nice tone and there in the scoop was Kyle’s ring. I texted him a pic and we met in the pool area to return his ring. Honeymoon saved! Aloha to Kyle & Kim!

This ring find began when I got a call from Loni from Marysville Washington who said her husband Jake just lost his wedding band on the beach. I was visiting a friend and had my detecting gear with me so I told them I could meet them in about an hour. They were happy to wait and thankfully traffic was perfect going that direction. When I arrived at the Army Recreation Center Jake and his lovely wife Loni were just returning after getting a bite to eat. They walked me down to the beach and noticed some of the area they were in where the ring was lost was now occupied by beachgoers. Jake explained he had his ring on a towel and when he picked it up later he had forgotten about the ring and it disappeared somewhere in the dry sand. I told him I’d hunt the free areas first then if we needed to move people we’d ask politely. Well no luck there so two young ladies under a tent shade asked if they could move their stuff and we could search under the tent shade. After we moved some chairs and beach equipment I got a nice #10 signal on the Equinox and one scoop down there was Jake’s Wedding Band. It was deadcenter under the tent. With smiles on there faces and obvious appreciation I handed Jake his ring. Equinox comes through again. Aloha to Jake & Loni!

This ring find began when I received an early morning email on Thursday stating, “I lost my ring on KMCBH can you help?” I responded and Mike from Kailua Hawaii told me the previous day he was fishing on the beach and at some point his ring was lost. He wasn’t sure exactly where but wanted me to search the areas he was in while fishing. We agreed to meet on my lunch break and we met at Mike’s house. Special gate passes are required and Mike’s was still valid so he drove us to the beach. We did a short scan of the parking area then proceeded down to the beach. It was about a 100 yard walk down the beach to the fishing area and I detected along the way. When we got to the spot Mike drew a box around the entire area he was in. I decided to work the dry area first parallel to the waters edge. I just completed the first leg of the grid and in the line Mike drew in the sand I got a nice low tone on the Excalibur. One scoop down and there in my scoop was Mike’s heirloom ring. Mike was overcome with joy that the ring was found and so quickly. He wasn’t even sure it was on the beach. Mike was so releived that he wouldn’t have to tell his mother he had lost his Father’s ring. She was coming to Hawaii soon for Christmas. Awesome I was able to help Mike who is a retired Navy veteran like myself. Veterans we stick together. Aloha to Mike!
