Alex contacted me because he and his wife were down on the beach, and during the movement of their beach chairs, his ring disappeared. We discussed what had happened, and I asked the many questions I normally ask to try to understand the conditions of the loss. I was able to go immediately, to insure the recovery was made.

When I arrived Alex met me, and took me to where the ring was lost. When we arrived his wife Nora was waiting. She had secured the site, so no one else laid out their towels over the ring. They were there celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary, and to have this loss happen was somewhat devastating. They showed me what happened, and where they had been sitting explaining where they believed the ring to have gone. I set up, and began my search. One pass, one scoop, and the ring was recovered. It was a little off of where they believed it to have gone, but in the general direction. They were so happy to have the ring back, so they could enjoy the rest of their anniversary celebration. A wonderful day!

John called me about his wedding ring that he had lost at the beach the day before. We talked, and I let him know that the county cleans this beach usually daily, and that if they had, the possibility of a recovery was going to be diminished. He wasn’t sure exactly where on the beach the ring was lost, because he had taken it off and put it in the pocket of his chair so he could go in the water, and it wasn’t until he had packed up everything and left the sand that he remembered the ring was gone. He gave me the area (he was not going to be able to be there to meet me), and I let him know that I would do the search as soon as I could get to the beach.

When I got to the beach, I looked out over the sand, and my hope was lifted. It looked like the cleaning machines had gone over only the towel line at the high tide line. I began my search going all the way into the wet sand to make sure the ring had not fallen off in that area. I was not able to find it in the slope area, so I moved my search closer towards the bike path, and after one pass in the grid, I got a great signal, dug and had a chunky gold ring in the scoop. I took a picture of it and sent it to John, who when he saw it said, “That’s it! Holy cow.” We were able to meet a short while later in order to make the return, and John was very grateful. It was nice to make his day!

Diamond Stud Earrinng Lost in the Sand at Manhattan Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

I got a call from Christy regarding her friend Erin. Erin had been surfing, and when she came out of the water, she removed her wetsuit causing her diamond stud earring to come off of her ear, and into the sand. Stud earrings are one of the most difficult items to find because there is such a small amount of metal attached to them. We arranged to meet, and I set off to do the search.

When I arrived at the beach, I looked for her, but there were a number of people out on the sand. I asked her to let me know where she was, and she began waving her arm. What I saw disheartened me a bit. She was standing in a group of no less than 30 people, mostly children moving around, and I began to think that the earring might have been stepped on and pushed out of detecting range. Erin had the other earring, so we put it in a ziplock bag, and placed it on the sand. When I tested the earring with my detector the furthest I could get from it and still detect it was about 2 inches, so I knew to find it, it needed to be close to the surface. As I began my search, everyone began to leave, and then as they were almost gone, Christy drew a circle of about 20 feet around the area where she believed the loss to have occurred which seemed rather large for such a small item. I worked slowly checking every faint signal I heard, and laid out a grid on the whole area. After, I began a cross grid, in order to not miss the earring because it might have been turned a different way. Then right in the middle of the circle I heard another faint signal, and moved some sand to check again. The signal came in stronger, so I moved a little more sand and rechecked. Now the signal was strong, so I dipped in my little scoop, and there in the bottom was the earring. I let Christy and Erin know it had been found, and Erin asked her husband to come and get it. He was reluctant to have his picture taken with the recovery, so He took one of me. Then I told him he might want to buy a lottery ticket because the odds of a recovery were so slim. Another great day.

I received a call from Alina right at dinner time. She had been playing volleyball at the beach, when in the process of hitting the ball, she saw her class ring fly off of her finger. This was a ring her parents bought for her after all of the hard work she put in to graduate from a prestigious university. I let her know that I would get there after I finished my dinner, but she had to leave to pack, because she was moving North in 2 days. I let her know that I would still conduct the search for her if she just let me know where the loss occurred. She then told me she set a marker at the location she had been standing when the ring flew off of her finger, and then left to pack. I knew I had to do this search at once, because this beach is not only machine cleaned by the county daily, it is a highly detected beach as well.

When I arrived at the beach it was now dark as I walked out to the area Alina had described to me. I looked around and found the marker she put in the sand. To my surprise a family had placed a blanket right next to the marker, so I asked them if they wouldn’t mind if I detected near them because I was trying to find something for someone, and they were good with that. I detected all around the area on the other side of the marker from where the family was with no luck, but many bottle caps and foil. I expanded my area a bit, still with no luck. Then as I wanted to detect the other side of the marker the family decided to leave. It was now about 9:30 PM. I began detecting where the family had been, and right where the blanket was laid I found Alina’s ring. She was gone, so we arranged to meet the next day for the return. She was so happy to have the ring back. It just made her day!

I got a call from Brian letting me know that there had been a ring loss at the beach the evening before. He and his wife were visting from Northern California, and were ready to go home. He had put his wife’s rings in his shirt pocket ,and then proceeded to play beach tennis, not thinking about them being lost. When he was done, and they had moved to a different location, he realized they were gone. Knowing that this beach is cleaned very well, I let him know that I would come as soon as possible.

When I got there, and Brian showed me the area, I could see that he had gone over the whole area with sifters, that drag through the sand, yet was unable to locate the rings. I then began to search where he had been sitting, and then towards where they had moved to. It was then that Brian encouraged me to look in the court first. I went back and began a grid in the court. After 2 passes got a good signal, and dug the diamond studded wedding band. Just 3 feet further out popped the engagement ring, a real beautiful set to be sure. When I showed Brian he was so happy because they were supposed to leave that morning to go home back up North. Well now they could go, and Brian was no longer in the “dog house”. A wonderful morning!

Darren called; he had been at the beach with his family celebrating an anniversary, and had removed his ring to enter the water, putting it in a bag. When they moved everything to leave and got to the car he realized the ring was missing. They went back and conducted a thorough search of the area, with no luck. I told him I would be there as soon as I could make it, and he agreed to meet me when I arrived to show me the area of the loss.

When I arrived we met up quickly, and went directly to the search area. I could see that there had been an extensive search because of the grid marks in the sand. I began my search, and found that the area was very clean from metal debris. I found one bottle cap, and right after got a good signal digging up a nice chunky gold ring. I held it up, and Darren was totally surprised, because it was right in the middle of their grid search. He wanted to give me a hug, but because of COVID stood down. Needless to say he was overjoyed to have his ring back, but did not want his picture taken. A great day!

Joshua called about losing his ring. He had been at the beach when he noticed it missing. I told him I would come and do the search for him, and that the sooner we do it the better.

I got there, and he showed me where to look. It did not take long, as he put me in the right place, and I was able to return his token of love. A short and sweet search for sure, and a happy smile.

I received a call from Jamie who had lost two rings. She had put them in her child’s rash guard pocket while applying sunscreen, and before she knew it, the boy was off into the water swimming and splashing around as deep as he could go. I told her I would come to do the search, and would leave as soon as possible.

When I got there Jamie met me, and showed me where the loss occurred, and the tide was retreating, but it was not going to be optimal. I began my search going into the surf as deep and close to the breakers as was possible for a recovery. The breakers were strong. I searched for about 30 minutes, and received a good signal about waist deep in the surf, dug a couple of times, and retrieved Jamie’s diamond wedding band. I was encouraged, as I continued to search for the other ring. I searched the whole area she was concerned about, and began to search out of the box, I continued my search until the incoming tide forced an end. I went back the next day to look again, but no luck on the second ring. I then went back another day, when the tide went into the minus stage at about 2:00 AM, but still no luck. I will be going back when I think conditions have benefitted the possibility of a recovery, but I was thankful to have been able to get one of the rings for her.  I do enjoy this service.

Matthew contacted me last night. He had been at the beach earlier in the day throwing a ball for his dog, when after a good toss, he realized his ring was missing. The ring was a bit of a loose fit, so they figured it flew off in the direction of the thrown ball. The ring was a special gift from his girlfriend, who had it custom made for him with special engravings on the sides. I let him know that we should get on the search as soon as possible, so we arranged to meet as soon as I could get to the area.

When I arrived, we met up, and Matthew and his girlfriend took me over to the area of the loss. I could see where they had been searching, and Matthew showed me where he had been standing when he threw the ball, and direction the ball was thrown. I started searching, laying out a tight grid finding bottle caps, and other various pieces of metal, but no ring. I expanded the area thinking he might have thrown it further than he thought finding more bottle caps but no ring. I widened the search area, no ring. I then went back to the starting point, and began a backwards search, and on the first pass, got a booming signal, scooped, and in the scoop was this big beautiful silver ring. I pulled it out, and they were baffled by the fact that the ring was found just behind where Matthew had been standing when he threw the ball. I always tell people that what they lost isn’t always where you think it is. That is why we as Ring Finders can be so effective at locating lost jewelry, it is because we are not emotionally tied to the search, and can think out of the box. A beautiful warm Summer evening!

I got a call for a lost ring the other day. It seems Lewis was on the roof of a house working, when he remembered his ring was on his finger. He called his wife to come and get it so he tossed it down to her, but it slipped through her hands and went into the bushes and dead leaves that covered the area. I let them know I could come immediately and was on my way.

When I got there I was shown the area, and could see that they had moved a lot of the leaves, and exposed the grass underneath. I went over the leaves, but realized that the stone and concrete work underneath was reinforced, and was making my detector sound off continually, so they would have to be moved to search them. I then began on the grass under the bushes when after about 2 passes, I got a good solid signal, and moved the grass around. There under the grass was Lewis’ ring which I promptly handed to him. He was reluctant to have his photo take, so I am holding the ring in this shot. Needless to say it was a happy day!
