I received the following email from Mark this morning regarding his lost Wedding Ring.
Hi John,
My tungsten-carbide wedding band slipped off this morning in some short grass. I know the 5×5′ area it’s in, but after 10 minutes of searching I had to give up. I would like to know if you could come try your skills at finding it.
The location is at the corner of Chimney Rock and South Braeswood. If you can help, let me know your availability and we can work out a schedule.
thanks,
Mark
Mark and I met in Houston this afternoon and searched for his missing ring. The search area was a grass field adjacent to a roadway where he exits the running track. The recovery took less than 10 minutes. Marks ability to put us in the right spot was the main factor in the fast recovery. Nice work Mark.

I was contacted this morning by Cordell regarding assistance in locating the post tension cables in a concrete foundation. Cordell advised his daughters home was under renovation, and he was needing to confirm the location and existence of the post tension cables in the foundation.
I met with Cordell an hour later and observed the renovations of his daughters home in progress. Cordell said the foundation was being fixed-leveled and his was wanting to confirm the location of the existing post tension cables.
Once the first horizontal cable was located, pin-pointing the remaining horizontal and vertical cables at five foot intervals was quite easy.
A handheld TRX pin-pointer performed this function with ease.

I received the following e-mail from Darren regarding his wife’s lost wedding band.
Hello John:
I am writing to inquire about obtaining your help after reading your blog posts in locating a ring lost in the front yard of a house near downtown Houston. Please let me know if you are interested in helping us locate the ring and when you might be available. My wife lost the ring while playing with our child in the front yard while bagging leaves about one month ago. She realized she lost the rings and we were able to locate the engagement ring but not the wedding band. The wedding band is somewhere in about a 10 x 25 foot flat grass section bounded on all sides by cement sidewalk (see attached picture). I can identify where the wedding ring was found within that plot as a starting location. Three of us searched the grassy area that day with hands over the grass but were not able to locate the wedding band. The wedding band is a rather standard platinum band. We found you through the ring finders website, which is a rather unique concept. Most mornings I would also be able to meet with you at the location, but I do have occasional office meetings scheduled in the morning. We appreciate your assistance. Please let me know if you need more information.
Darren

I was contacted by Tony regarding his daughters lost 1/2 kt. diamond earring. Tony said the diamond earring had belonged to his wives grandmother and finding the missing one was imperative.
Tony said his family had been at his fathers house (Tony Jr.) in Texas City playing volleyball in his backyard. Aviana had gotten to close to the net, and the net pulled the earring from her ear. Tony said, Aviana stopped immediately after feeling the earring being pulled from her ear. Tony said the entire family searched for the earring in the grass, but they were unsuccessful.
Arrangement were made to meet (Tony Jr.-Dad) at his residence on Saturday afternoon to search for the lost earring.

Arrived Saturday afternoon and met (Tony Jr.) at his residence in Texas City. Tony gave me a walk through of where they believed the earring had fallen after being pulled from Aviana’s ear. I noticed several fresh dug plugs (holes) in the ground. Tony said his son had borrowed a metal detector from a neighbor in an effort to find the earring.
Prior to the good news, Aviana and her mother Courtney arrived and were able to witness the recovery of the lost earring.

I met Alex in the parking lot of the volleyball court today in the Galleria area of Houston. As I was gathering my equipment, Alex explained how he had spent three hours last night searching with no success. He said he gone to a nearby Home Depot and purchased a rack, a shovel, and a heavy duty screen to sift sand and he still couldn’t find his ring.
Alex said, later that evening his wife found my add on Craigslist, and followed my posted link to “The Ring Finders”
The search for Alex’s ring was quick, on my second pass I hit a really nice signal, and moments later Alex was holding his ring. Alex immediately called his wife to share the good news; it was very evident he was very happy to have his ring back.
Thank you, Alex

Subject: Wedding band lost in Lake Hello, I came across your website and was wondering if you could find my lost wedding band. I see you are in Houston. I live in the DFW area and lost my wedding band this weekend in Lake Lewisville. I have the exact location. It would require you to dive about 20-25 feet with scuba gear. I only had it for two months and I am willing to pay you for your services. Please let me know. Thanks.Richard
I contacted Don Wilson from The Ring Finders in Dallas and relayed the call information to him, and my interests in attempting a recovery. Lake Lewisville is in Don’s backyard and I knew he would know all the logistical aspects of the search location.
Don did all the ground work on this job, taking photographs of the search location, meeting with Richard at dock weeks prior, and making all the arrangement with the marina for our visit. Having the Dallas team present (Don and Ellen) and their son Tripp was the only reason this recovery attempt was even possible.
Don, Ellen, and Tripp thank you again for everything…
The dock in Lake Lewisville (the search location)
The depth 23″ feet, and after the 12′ mark total blackness down to the bottom at 23′, the bottom a soft silt mud. Utilized a custom made PVC dive pole to mark the primary search location from the surface. Used a boogie board leash as a lanyard attachment to the PVC pole ensuring I would not drift off of the search location (essentially cave diving in total darkness). The dangers in these black water dives is becoming entangled in or under one of the boat lifts or dock while ascending back to the surface.
You can see from the photograph above, overhead obstacles where a significant obstruction, basically you had to work your way under the lift to descend to the mark.
Now for the downside, after one hour and ten minutes of bottom time, I could not find that missing RING. The bottom of the boat slip at 23′ provided its own challenges, laden heavy with scrap material from the docks construction, and other large miscellaneous metal items made the search a real challenge.
The two lawn chairs above were fastened together with a cable lock and were an unexpected find at the bottom. I worked the bottom with a handheld Vibra-Tech 730 sifting through 4-5 inches of mud pulling up targets.
Large pieces of iron, cut pad locks, small nails and bottle tops were among the assortment of recovered items.
A short video illustrating the recovery location
It was a tough way to end the day, I always like finding the prize. The ring may be worth another look one day, but for now the ring belongs to the lake.
