I received an email from Jessica in the late afternoon. She had been surfing at the beach with the board leash on her wrist, when a wave hit her and yanked the board, and pulled her engagement ring off of her finger into the “washing machine” froth and was gone. She had only been engaged for 3 months, and had only moved to California two days prior from Philadelphia. What a blow this caused to her emotions for certain. I looked at the tide chart, and could see that I would have to wait about 4 hours to go back at the lower tide. It would be dark, but that does not hinder the search process. we emailed back and forth, so I could narrow down the search area as much as possible, because she was not going to be able to meet me there for the search. I let her know I was going, and that I would let her know one way or the other if the search was successful.

I got down to the beach about an hour before the low tide to do the search. Jessica had sent me a picture of her ring so I knew what I was looking for. I got my phone out, looked at the mapped picture Jessica had sent me, and started just outside the perimeter, and worked my way in, working into about waste deep water then back out again. After about 5 or 6 passes, I got a good low tone signal dug, and in the beam of my headlight, I could see the sparkle of diamonds and I knew I had success. I sent an email to let her know I had found her ring, but she did not see it until the next morning, in which she was very happy. We arranged to meet at the beach for a return, and her fiancé accompanied her for the return, it was a special time of joy and smiles. That smile is what this service is all about!

Khrysta called about 7:30 PM in dire need of metal detecting service. She had buried her keys on the beach so that she could go in the water without worrying someone would take them. The problem was that when she and her friend were ready to leave, they packed everything up and went back to the car, a good distance from their original position. Needless to say, it seemed an impossible task to find them again, as there were very few people, or other landmarks to get them back to the exact spot they had been in. I let her know I would be there as soon as I could get there.

When I got there Khrysta and her friend met me, and took me out to the area they believed the loss to have occurred. As I looked over the area under the light of my headlight, I could see where they had searched, so I began my grid. I made about 8 passes, When I noticed another area where they had searched, and asked if that might have been where they had been. They weren’t sure at that point, but felt that I was searching in the most likely spot, so I continued my grid. It was about 4 more passes, and I got a signal, dug and saw this big pink light stick in the scoop. Khrysta and her friend saw it too, knew that I had found the keys, and came right over. They were very happy. Now they could go home without worry. Glad to have helped!

I got a call from a young lady who lost her rental car key in the sand at the beach. I had some previous commitments, so I was not able to go and do the search until many hours later. She decided to do the search when I was available later in the evening, and I called her when I was on my way.

We agreed on where to meet, and she and a friend arrived to help me locate the search area. We went out, and I began my grid of the sand. It was about 75 feet to each point of the grid, but I just kept to the pattern. After about 5 grid lines, and many bottle caps, the ladies went back to the car they arrived in. That is when I found the key. I walked out to them. They had gone to retrieve an electronic lantern to help them see better in the darkness. I went over and teased that I thought they had left me, and was assured that was not the case, when I held out the key to their surprise. They were very happy, because the rental company had been a bear for them to deal with all day. Anyway, a great end of the day!

Peter called for help, he had lost his wedding ring while he was playing volleyball at the beach. He had taken the ring off and put it in his bag for safekeeping, but sometime during the day, while taking things out of the bag his ring must have been pulled out, and fell into the sand. It was early in the afternoon when he called, and knowing the beaches to be packed because of the holiday weekend, I asked that we postpone the search to the evening when most people would have left, so I could get parking close to the area of the loss, which he agreed to do.

When I got to the beach, I first met Peter’s wife Victoria because Peter was looking for a parking space. She showed me the area she believed the loss to have occurred, and I began my search, I made a few passes working a little out of the search area to insure that I covered it all. Then on about the 3rd pass, got the sweet tone of gold in the head phones, dug and in my scoop was Peter’s ring. Victoria was standing out from me about 20 feet away when I made the recovery, so I held the ring up in the light of my headlight, and she came running over; Peter was not there yet. When Peter arrived, Victoria ran over to him, got down on one knee, and placed the ring back on his finger; a very cool scene indeed. Needless to say Peter was in total surprise that I had found the ring so quickly. What a fun recovery!

Victoria sent the following testimonial:

We truly thank you for your response, speedy recovery of such an important symbol of our marriage, and generosity with your time last night. We were really inspired and touched by what you and other Ring Finders are doing. With so much disappointment and sadness in the world, people like you and organizations founded upon purpose and authentic helpfulness is a wonderful reminder that there is so much good all around us.

Thank you thank you thank you, and good luck in all your future searches!

Tom called in the evening, he had lost his wedding ring at the beach earlier that day. His young son was going to get smashed by a wave, so Tom ran to save him, when in the process, Tom’s ring came off, fell into the frothing water, and was gone. Tom was hoping against hope that his ring could be found, but realized we should conduct a search at low tide, in which I agreed, so we decided to meet at the beach at 5:00 AM to do the search.

When we arrived we found that the beach access had a gate which was closed and locked, and would not be unlocked until 8:00 AM. We could not wait, because the tide would be coming back in and take away a lot of the search area. We decided to drive about a mile down the highway until there was public access, and then walk back in the darkness in front of all the multimillion dollar homes. We finally reached the spot, that Tom identified as to where he lost his ring, and I began my search. Tom drifted out to the water, and about 20 feet into my search I received a nice gold tone and dug. I dumped the sand, kicked it out, and in my headlight was the glimmer of gold. Tom did not see what had happened, so I picked up the ring, and walked over to him (not showing the ring to him), and asked him, “How long do you want me to search for your ring”. He kind of looked at me funny, and then I opened my hand, he couldn’t believe it. He was completely overjoyed, and I was very happy to have made his day. We then we walked back, as daylight was slowly creeping in to the day. What a great morning!

Ring Lost in Grass on USC Campus…Found and Returned.

I received a call from Kevin about a lost ring. He had been on a company picnic outing the day before on a field at the USC campus. He took his ring off and put it in his pocket to make sure it did not get lost while participating in the activities of the day. After the activities were over, Kevin reached into his pocket to get his ring only to realize it was gone. He looked over the expanse of grass he had been on, and began a search for the ring with no success. I let him know that I could perform the search, and we agreed to meet the next day.

When I got there, Kevin met me, and showed me the area, it was quite large, and the thatch was thick, a good hiding place for a lost ring. I began on to outside perimeter of the search area, and started working my way back with a tight grid. The problem I encountered was the extreme amount of metal that was in the grass and soil. Much of the metal was aluminum, and tin foil, which caused me to stop and search with the pin pointer often. After about an hour of a very slow and arduous process, I got another good signal, and was about to put the pin pointer in the grass, when I caught a slight glimmer of gold peeking through the blades of grass. I reached in and retrieved Kevin’s ring. I walked it over to him, and needless to say he was very happy. His fiancé had given it to him, so it had special significance. I was very happy to have given him back something he thought was gone for good.

Sentimental Silver Ring Lost at Malibu Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

I received a call from Roy, he had been throwing a football to his friend at the beach, when his ring flew off of his hand. He did not think it went into the water, even though he was close. I told him I would be there as soon as I could to perform a search for him. The ring was given to him by his father who had since passed away, so this ring had extreme sentimental value to him.

When I arrived he took me to the area, and showed me what had happened. It seemed like it should’ve been an easy search, but the tide was coming in, and less sand was exposed. It was about 7:00 PM, and tide was almost at its highest, and all the area he thought it might have landed in did not have the ring. After completely searching the area, I was disheartened to have to tell Roy, that his ring was not in the area I searched, but told him that I would come back at 12:00 AM to do a second search when the tide had receded, and he was welcome to meet me for the search. Roy decided not to go, so I was on the beach in the darkness doing my grid alone at 12:00 AM. About 1 1/2 hours later down the slope 30 feet from where I was searching earlier (30 feet further out in the water earlier), I received a real nice signal, and dug. One scoop, and his ring was shining in my headlight. I sent him a text at 1:30 AM to let him know the ring was secure. I did not hear anything back from him until the next morning, at which time he was totally in disbelief that I was able find his ring. Because of work arrangements we had to wait a week in order to get his ring back. When we finally met, I was able to give this memory of his father back to him, and completely make his day. What a great service to be a part of!

I got a call from Christopher about a key he lost in the sand at the beach. It seems he was using another key on the key ring to cut something when his car key snagged on something, and the blade of the key snapped off of the plastic door opener it was attached to, and flew into the sand. After thoroughly searching for it he found me on The Ring Finders web site, and asked for help. After describing what had happened, I let him know I would be there as soon as I could to conduct a search for him.

When I arrived, Christopher took me over to the area of the loss. He explained again what happened, and showed me where he believed the key to have flown. I turned my detector on, swung once, got a good signal, and after scooping the sand, had his key in my scoop. He was so happy, and relieved because he could not leave without the blade of the key. A very short search, made an extremely happy gentleman!

I received a call earlier today from Devon who was calling for his friend Kari. Kari had been sitting in a beach chair, and decided to apply some sunscreen. She did not want to mess her wedding band with the cream, so she removed it and put it on the chair. She then moved forgetting it was on the chair, and in that process it was gone in the soft sand. She searched where she thought it might have fallen, but was unable to find it, even with the help of friends. Kari’s husband had gotten the ring as a special gift for her, so it had a special sentimentality. I let Devon know that I was on my way and would contact him when I arrived.

When I got to the beach, we were able to find each other after a little communication, When they showed me the area, I knew that if everything played out as they explained to me, the ring was going to be found. They had many things in their favor, but the two most important were that they called right away, and that they had not left the area. I set up after they had moved the beach chairs, adjusted the detector’s sensitivity, and proceeded to search. One swing, nice tone, one scoop, and in the scoop was Kari’s ring. I pulled it out and held it up, when at that point the whole group of people surrounding me burst into cheers, and when I handed it back to Kari, she became very emotional. It took all of about 10 seconds to have the ring back in Kari’s hand. I love to see joy restored!

Kari sent the following testimonial:

Hi Steve,

Thank you again so much for finding my ring yesterday. I just posted a review on your yelp page.

Here is a testimonial for your website:

It was a typical beach day. I removed my diamond eternity band to apply sunscreen as I always do but somehow got distracted and forgot to put it back on. Suddenly about an hour and a half later I realized my ring wasn’t on my hand. I had set it next to me on my beach chair and now it was gone. Likely buried in the sand somewhere. I was distraught. I had a fast thinking friend who called a metal detector shop and they referred us to Steve. We had tried to contain the area where we thought it might be as best we could. Steve showed up and saved the day! After going over some details with me, he put his equipment to work and sure enough, the first swipe yielded my ring! I will be forever grateful to Steve for finding this very sentimental gift given to me by my husband.

Thank you again Steve!

Yasin emailed me about his lost car key. He lives on a second floor of an apartment building, and when leaving the home he dropped his car key. It hit the deck, bounced, and landed in the garden below. The garden was filled with 3 foot tall shrubs with a lot of dead ground cover under  them, He said that he spent about 3 hours looking for the key, and then decided to look for help. He asked if I could come the next morning, and we arranged a time to meet for the search.

When I got there Yasin met me and took me to the spot. The shrubs were tall, and very close to one another. I did the search slowly and meticulously without finding the key. I then went back and slowed the search down even more, and found the key right under where he thought it had dropped, buried under the dead undergrowth. He was very happy to have it back, and I was happy to help.
