**** Christopher came up to me while I was detecting at Newport Beach.  He wanted to know if I could help him find his car keys lost in the sand.

He showed me an area where he and his friends had been messing around and he believed the keys could have fallen out of his pocket in that location. We had two positive things working in our favor. First, the keys had been lost within the last 30 minutes. Second, he had a good idea of the place on the beach where he was.

Now, all we had to do was fire up my metal detector and find out where the keys were hiding under the sand. Ten minutes later I had the keys in my scoop. Christopher was so relieved that he didn’t have to go to the trouble of getting another set of keys and he was able to enjoy the rest of his day.

Annie had lost her platinum diamond wedding band while pushing her son one of the playground rides at a local park. She called me from her home in Santa Monica,CA. Which was only two blocks from the park. That would be an advantage because she could meet me at the location.

When I arrived Annie showed me the area where she felt the platinum ring slip from her finger. There was plenty of sand that could hide a ring. It shouldn’t have gone further than 15 feet but you never know.

I began the search using a detector set on a higher frequency because those  smaller rings with stones can be elusive. After about twenty minutes I found the ring probably 15 or 20 feet out from where she felt it leave her finger. She was actually standing on it while watching me grid search the location.

Again I got the reward of seeing a big smile and seeing how happy Annie was to get her precious symbol of her marriage. Her husband was responsible for finding TheRingFinders website and giving Annie my number to call.

I gave Annie some temporary plastic ring sizing spiral deals to help her to remember to get the ring sized.

Lost Diamond Wedding Ring in the Ocean at Catalina Island, CA.

An epic ring call with an amazing recovery in a cobble rock beach at Emerald Cove, Catalina Island, CA. four days after lost in the ocean. Catalina Island, sometimes known as the Island of Romance but this time it was not too romantic when Jacky lost her wedding ring at the island.

Dave Shenbaum’s sisters-in-law Jacky believed that her diamond wedding ring came off as she lifted her two small children into a shore boat. She was standing in knee deep water with a gravel type beach at Emerald Cove. Although she didn’t feel the ring slip off, she knew it was missing after getting into the dingy.

Dave put on his dive mask to search for over an hour to no avail. He knew he was not equipped with the right tools to ring a ring in this environment. This happened Friday and they returned to Redondo Beach the next day 26 miles across the channel. They had resolved that the ring was lost forever.

Dave, Manhattan Beach Fire Captain and lifeguard has used TheRingFinders to help people find valuable items for their owners. He contacted me Sunday at 4:30pm, asking if I’d be willing to go over to the island on his friend’s skiff or another larger boat.

We checked the tides and weather forecast to choose the best time to get to the site. Monday seemed the best but only allowed us a few hours to prepare.

I have never met Dave Shenbaum or Joe Bark retired fireman and I was a little apprehensive about jumping in a boat that I have never seen with strangers to cross the Catalina channel.

We met at the next morning to take the Joe’s ocean skiff to Emerald Cove. It would be the fastest and most maneuverable getting us to shore. Everything went like clock work we were almost like Navy Seals on a mission. I was on a small boat with trained first responders that have been on many rescues and other emergency situations. Can’t ask for better partners than that.

After an hour and fifteen minutes we landed on the gravel beach. Dave and I went ashore where he showed me his landmarks to where the loss occurred. It was low tide so I started at the waterline gridding parallel along the beach. Halfway on the third pass after I had dug two trash targets the next signal was the beautiful white gold diamond wedding ring. We took a few photos at the location then jumped in the boat for the return trip.

Arriving back a Redondo Beach King Harbor four hours round trip, including our search and photo-op.  Steve and Jacky Shenbaum met us at dockside not knowing we had already recovered her wedding ring. Dave held out his hand with a few pebbles from the beach and her ring. She did a quick double take then the tears of joy started to flow her husband Dave Shenbaum could not believe that his brother had set this recovery up and kept it a secret till he could surprise the both of them. This was definitely an epic ring recovery. I could not have done this without the help of Dave Shenbaum and Joe Bart two of Manhattan Beach’s finest.

Blaine’s family is from Utah enjoying a day at Newport Beach. Their vacation took a bad turn when Blaine’s wife lost her wedding ring set in the sand. She had placed her rings in her purse while on the beach.

They were about 20 miles away the beach on their way to eat dinner when his wife discovered the ring set wasn’t in her purse. She assumed that the ring may have been pulled out of her purse when she removed her cellphone. They immediately decided to return to the beach to search for the lost wedding and engagement rings.

While driving back, Blaine’s daughter, Abby got online finding my contact information. I talked to Blaine agreeing to meet him at the location. When I arrived there were 6 or 7 people walking an area looking down. They waved me over to show me the general area. There was a little disagreement as to the location. Six people with six different ideas but I knew we were close enough to find the rings if they were actually lost there.

If you start in the right place it could be a fast recovery. If the grid search is slow and thorough eventually the lost item will eventually show up. ( if it’s there )  This time it took about 20 separate by 30 ft. passes till the white gold diamond wedding ring set was in the scoop. Abby posed for a photo with the prize. Sounds easy but this happened on the towel line. The next day the beach sifting machines would have got it mixed with other beach trash.

We all walked off the beach together and the family still had time to enjoy dinner at a nice restaurant. Also the vacation wasn’t upset by the loss of such an important sentimental keepsake.

If you ever talk to someone that has lost wedding rings or other heirlooms, you will find that it bothers some people for years. I wish I could return all the rings I have found.

***** Bailey’s mother had put her rings and bracelets in her hand bag while she was at beach party at Huntington City That night while everyone was enjoying the camp fire, the hand bag was knocked off a table into the sand. Several pieces of jewelry were lost.

Bailey’s mother was upset when she came to her home in Apple Valley, CA. Bailey and his friend got into their car to drive 100 miles back to the beach, leaving at 12 midnight. To top things off they were held up over two hours by a road closure on interstate 15. They arrived at the beach at 4 am. After two hours of searching the sand, someone one told them how to contact me.

I received the call at 6:30 am. When I met them on the beach they were tired and frustrated. We were lucky enough to to find the last two missing pieces of jewelry. A gold high school ring and a gold bangle bracelet. We were very lucky that the beach cleaning equipment was being serviced and didn’t work that area of the beach that night.

Important to call as soon as possible if you lose a ring in a public place … 949-500-2136

**** Luke called me as I was stuck in traffic on one our famous freeways in Los Angeles, CA. His platinum wedding band flew off his finger into to the surf when he threw a football to his brother. He said, he had the area well marked but the tide was rising.

The tide was rising and I was not far away. The problem was traffic was so bad that it would be more than an hour till I could get to him. There were no other options. I assured him if I could get the location while he was still there, we still had a chance to find the ring even if I had to comeback at the next low tide.

When I arrived Luke and his friends were  directly in front of the location. One of Luke’s friends had actually stepped off 30 ft. to where he saw it land in the water. By now the waves were surging up the slope fairly powerful. I still go a great strong signal in knee deep water. Put my sand scoop in and retrieved Luke’s platinum wedding band. He was elated, as were all of us. Luke was happy that it was found before he took off for Salt Lake City the next morning.

One factor that made this a successful search was he had been standing in the surf while throwing the ball and he was actually throwing the ball towards the top of the beach, so it landed away from the deeper water. I guess we gained a little time before the tide took over the spot.

Family Heirloom Ring Recovered – Huntington Beach, CA

Alejandro told me his Cousin was boogie boarding when he hit the sand and broke his nose. During this mishap his gold and ruby ring which was his late Grandfathers fell off into the surf. I said I would go first thing in the morning during low tide to search for this family heirloom. My intuition paid off and I found the ring after a two hour hunt right when the tide was at its lowest point.

The loss happened on July 5th and I recovered it on July 7th. This is a popular beach for detectorists and we were lucky it was not found during this busy July 4th weekend.

**** Eric called me as I was driving home from a trip this afternoon. He had been teaching a Yoga class on the beach when he lost his gold wedding ring in the sand. Eric is the owner of www.beachyogasocal.com.

He had just finished teaching a class this morning when he brushed the sand off his pants and the ring went came off into the sand. Two or more hours of searching was disappointing without finding his ring.

I always have my detecting equipment with me, so I just drove straight to Santa Monica Beach. Traffic was a problem which is normal here in SoCal. The good thing is we had a good chance to find the ring because he got a hold of me in a timely manner.

Parking was easy in the late afternoon as people were heading home. Eric walked with me to the exact location where he had left a few markers in the sand. I fired up my detector and we had the ring in the scoop soon after starting the search.

It was great to meet Eric and be able to have the time and equipment to help him find his special wedding ring. He told me he never knew this service exists. Someday people will know where to go when they need a metal detector specialist, TheRingfinders.com

Diamond Ring Lost at Laguna Beach, CA. Found in Sand

It’s summer if you lose a ring at the beach or a public place, call now… 949-500-2136 ***

Tracy’s husband, Tony called me from Laguna Beach, CA. a couple of hours after she lost her diamond ring in the dry sand. Tracy had put her ring on her lap while applying sunscreen. After getting distracted she stood up and the ring fell into the sand. After a half hour she realized what had happened. The whole family searched dragging their fingers through the sand without success.

The lifeguard had suggested that they google search TheRingFinders.com. Tony called me for help and I ask if they could stay in the location till I got there. When I get a call out within a few hours of the loss and someone can put me in the general area. My metal detector is the perfect tool to find a ring or other precious metal keepsake.

It didn’t take long to find this beautiful ring. Tracy was happy to get her ring back, but she felt a little embarrassed about the way she list the ring. I took the time to tell her that this happens very often. Many people don’t discover that they had lost a ring till they are miles away and don’t remember what they did that caused the loss.

Not all searches are this easy. My last three searches were not successful and each search was over 3 hours. The main reason I could not find the lost object was.. 1) too much time had passed.. 2) It was lost in a public area, probably picked up by a passer-by.. 3) the person didn’t know the general area of the loss, we sometimes can only eliminate an area that the person believes the loss occurred.

Thought of the day.. Don’t put rings on your lap when applying lotions, its a bad habit and has led to the loss of many rings.

The difficult searches are always a high feeling when the item is found. I love the challenge.

It’s summer, if you lose a ring on the beach or other pubic place..  Please call Now 949-500-2136 ***

Jessica and her family were enjoying their vacation at Laguna Beach when she lost her wedding ring. She contacted me after finding my phone number on TheRingfinders.com directory.

I was driving home when Jessica called. She told me that she had put her wedding ring set in a handbag while on the beach. The engagement ring was still in the handbag when she returned to her hotel room. The wedding band could have been lost in the sand or anywhere along the walkway to the beach. She would be able to meet me to get me close to the location.

There were a few unknowns but we have to start the process of elimination. After meeting Jessica we walked to the beach where she had an area marked off with beach chairs and towels. Even though she didn’t remember taking things from her bag, it’s always best to start where they spent most of their time.

It was a short search, as I got a nice gold signal a short time after starting to swing my metal detector. Jessica’s eyes lit up and I saw that awesome smile that happens when I’m able to return a ring.

It’s nice when people can tell you they felt the ring come off their finger, but that doesn’t happen often. Also, it does help when they can realize the ring is missing before too much time passes. Next, it is necessary to contact a member of TheRingFinders.com as soon as possible.

I love what I do!!    ” I WILL TRY ANYWHERE”
