Alice lost her platinum with diamonds engagement ring in the surf at a Malibu, CA. beach. She contacted me about 10pm that night. We discussed what happened when she felt her ring slip from her finger. I looked up the hight of the tide when the loss occurred and that she was only knee deep in the small waves.

The next low tide would give us a chance to find the ring. It’s impossible to keep track of the sand conditions of all the beaches of Southern California. Sand conditions vary from day to day. It would be different if we were searching a lake or inside a back bay. I wanted to be honest with Alice, so I told her we had a 50-50 chance to find her ring.

When I met both Alice and her husband, Nareg they were very emotional and had been up most the night. They had returned to the beach that night with a rake, trying to retrieve the ring dragging the rake in the surf.  

I purposely did not want to search before the tide was at its lowest. It is not worth taking the risk of losing a ring, while trying to retrieve it in heavy surf conditions. 

Alice went to buy some sunscreen while Nareg watched me start my grid search. I eliminated the high area of the slopping beach. Then I started a grid from the top of the slope into knee deep water. After finding 3 pieces of trash metal I dug another target that rattled when it hit the bottom of my sand scoop. Yes! The beautiful platinum diamond ring was glimmering in the bottom of the scoop. 

I walked up and surprised Nareg. Then he was able to take the ring to surprise Alice when she returned from her shopping trip. One photo I posted is the moment Nareg held the ring out to Alice. It was an awesome morning and such a pleasure to help both Alice and Nareg find their ring.

Mike called me from Malibu, CA. just after he had spent an hour trying to find his gold wedding that was dropped in the sand. The tide was beginning to wash over the beach where his ring had come off his finger. I could hear the frustration in his voice. It took a few seconds to look at the tide app on my cellphone. The tide was peaking and would be falling so the ring shouldn’t move very far before I could get there.

Mike’s  wife and children were able to return home with his father while he waited for me to meet him on the beach. His dad had figured the the ring was lost forever, but Mike could not give up on his ring until he tried using a guy from TheRingFinders with a metal detector to give it a try. 

When I arrived the waves were still overlapping the search location. Mike pointed to the spot were he believed the ring to be. I jumped in ankle deep water with waves splashing over my knees. A couple swings with my detector and a nice solid signal. One scoop as the wave receded and a beautiful gold and diamond wedding ring was in safe, ready to get back on Mike’s  finger.

It was very helpful that Mike found me and was able to stay, guiding me to the approximate location. This is what we at TheRingFinders is all about. The smile on Mike’s face tells it all.

I received a email early Saturday morning from Catalina saying she had lost her wedding rings in the sand at Laguna Beach the day before. I immediately sent her a reply asking for her to call me as soon as possible. This is a small beach we have to get there first thing this morning.

I wasn’t sure when she would read my email reply, so I sent her another email telling her I was going to drive to the beach while waiting for her call. If she could meet me there it would help.

Just as I drove into the parking lot, I could see a lady on the sand looking down kicking her feet through the sand. It was Catalina and she ran over to meet me. I almost knew what she was going to tell me. Catalina said that she taken off her rings to apply sunscreen on her daughter. She didn’t discover that her rings were missing till later that night. 

We had the whole beach to ourselves and the search area was only about 25 x 25 ft. It didn’t take long to find the two very nice Platinum Diamond Rings. Catalina was standing next to me when I scooped up the rings and they made a loud clanking noise as they hit the bottom of the stainless steel scoop.

I said to her we got them and the look on her face was indescribable. A look of relief and joy at the same time.

I don’t want to seem like I’m exaggerating about getting to that beach so fast. It is a small busy beach and with summer just starting there are more people with metal detectors on the beach. Most of them would return a ring if they could find the owner. The problem is that it is not easy to find the person that lost the ring. Craigslist or lost and found posters in the area are not very successful.

Catalina was very happy and grateful to have her rings back. It was a pleasure to help her.

Lost Engagement Ring in the Sand at Long Beach, CA. .. Found Next Day

Courtney had lost her engagement ring while taking a trip to Long Beach, CA.with her son. It was a 90 mile trip from where they live and was a great day at the beach until she got home realizing that her white gold engagement ring was missing. She had taken it off at the beach tying it to thin string handle of her beach bag for safekeeping. 

After double checking inside of her beach bag and frantically checking her car, she believed that it may have fallen in the sand while removing things during the day. 

Determined to find the ring, the next day Courtney found a place to rent a metal detector and made the drive of more than two hours to search for her ring. After more than half a day with the rental detector and being totally frustrated, Courtney did an internet search where she found TheRingFinders.com getting my contact information.

I was able to meet her on the beach within a half hour. She had read a few of my blog stories and said she wanted see me work my magic. I told her, if the ring was there I could find it. It could have been lost in several places, she had eliminated the car and her beach bag. Now we could try the sandy beach which is the best possibility for a ring to hide if it were dropped at the beach.

I set up my metal detector and did a few practice swings away from the search area. After three 20 ft grid lines “BOOM” … Courtney’s very special engagement ring in my sand scoop. Then giving it to her the great smile followed by tears of joy. What a special moment that never gets old for me to witness. Another successful ring recovery that could have had gone either way. There were so many places the ring could have been lost.

Lost Diamond Wedding Ring at Huntington State Beach .. Found in Sand

I was at Huntington Beach metal detecting when Patrick called. He had been given my number by a fellow member of TheRingFinders, Michael Trollmann.

Three days before Patrick had  a family get together at Huntington State Beach. They spent the first part of the day up near the water playing ball and enjoying the waves. Patrick’s sister in-law put her wedding ring in the cupholder of the beach chair, not realizing that the cupholder had a hole in the bottom.

Later that afternoon they moved about 75 yards to the beach fire pits. Just before leaving she remembered her ring. Checking the beach chair, the ring was gone. The next morning they all met on the beach with sifting equipment searching both locations with negative results. 

The third day Patrick posted a his story in The Huntington Beach Community Forum, a Facebook group. Michael contacted him telling him about TheRingFinders and gave him my phone number because he couldn’t leave work. 

It was a coincident that I was only two lifeguard towers away from the location of the loss. I started searching the general area until Patrick could meet me. After showing me the massive search area, I put together a search plan. First a quick search of the fire pit location, second return to the waterfront towel line and last to search the 75 yards plus they had walked when they moved.

I told Patrick, if he had other things to do, this may take a few hours. He lives a few blocks away. The fire pits yielded nothing so I went back to the beach front. Finishing up the grid search I had started earlier. BOOM!! White Gold Diamond Wedding Ring in the scoop.

I called Patrick and we met on the beach. He told me he had mostly given up hope that the ring could be found. All he had to do was send a photo to his brother to make sure it was the right ring. Everything checked out to be the correct ring. And there were several happy family members plus Patrick posted the successful recovery of the ring on the Huntington Beach Community Forum. Last I looked it had 2.2k Likes and 137 Comments. More people know about TheRingFinders.com.

Lost wedding ring, Longwood, Florida…..Found and Returned!

Sunday evening Morgan was on her back porch and threw a ball out the door and into the yard for her dog to fetch. But not all dogs have learned the fine art of fetch and retrieve. As is the case with Morgan’s dog! So Morgan and her young son ran out to help demonstrate the skill of fetching a ball when thrown. They played with the dog for awhile in the yard and then retreated inside to the cool air conditioning. An hour or so passed before Morgan noticed that her diamond engagement ring and her wedding ring were not on her finger, where she has worn them for the last 7 years! A bit of panic set in and she began thinking of where they could be and remembered throwing the ball for her dog and being as she throws with her left hand, it made sense that her rings could very easily have slipped off at that time. And sure enough there in the yard, close to where the ball had landed, she found her diamond engagement ring in the grass. So she continued looking for her wedding ring but could not seem to find it. As she contemplated what to do next, Morgan thought about buying or renting a metal detector and decided to purchase a cheap detector at the local sporting goods store. On her way to the store she remembered seeing theringfinders.com web site and thought of giving me a call to see if I could help her. I assured Morgan that there was a very good chance of finding her lost wedding ring and we made arrangements to meet the next day. It was interesting that Morgan thought she had not thrown the ball very hard, maybe 10 to 15 feet, as the ball only landed a short distance from the back door and her diamond engagement ring was found very close. So I searched high and low, in the bushes, under the bushes and rechecked all signals carefully to be sure a large deep signal was not masking her ring…but I could not find it! An hour passed and Morgan’s husband came out to see how I was progressing and he offered to trim two sago palms that were at least 30 feet from the back door. It was an excellent idea, because there at the base of the first prickly sago plant, down in the leaves was Morgan’s beautiful lost wedding ring! Shani had been at Surfrider Beach in Malibu, CA. with her friend, Julie. After coming out of the restroom, just before stepping onto the sand, Shani shook her hands. At that moment her gold wedding band slipped off her finger disappearing into the dry sand.

The lifeguards recommended that they google TheRingFinders website. That was how Julie contacted me. I asked if the loss was dry sand or in the water and if they could wait an hour and a half for me to get to their location. From what they told me, I assured them we had a good chance to find her ring. It was a weekend day and I was lucky to get a parking space close to where Shani and Julie were waiting.

Shani showed me where she was standing when the ring came off her finger. Starting to grid search from the edge of the sidewalk down a gradual slope, I was probably 20 feet away when I got a great signal that turned out to be Shani’s ring. It wasn’t a heavy ring but it surprised me how far it had gone with just a little shake of her hand. Nevertheless everyone was overjoyed that the ring was found and they could return home after a beautiful day on the beach.

Lost Platinum Ring with Tourmaline Stone at El Matador State Beach, Malibu, CA .. Found in Sand

Timothy had been at El Matador State Beach for an early morning walkout. He came to a place where the beach had eroded creating a five foot embankment. When he jumped to the lower level, he feel backward with his hands in the sand. Right away he noticed his unique Platinum/Palladium with a Tourmaline Stone was not on his finger. After spending time searching the small area he started to second guess himself. Possibly he had left his ring at home that morning?

Timothy called me explaining his story. He was on his way to check his house that was only a half hour away. We still had time to search the beach location but soon it would be high tide. My drive would take an hour and a half so I started the drive. Timothy had given me great directions as to where he had been at the beach. I believed I could find location without him meeting me there.

After arriving and not hearing anything from Timothy about his search at his home, I went down the many stairs to beach walking about a quarter mile till a found the embankment he described to me over the phone. Then I began searching with my metal detector. There was several places where the sand was knocked down which may bury a ring out of range of my detector. This time we were lucky and I got the signal I was looking for, a Big Bang. at the bottom of my sand scoop was Timothy’s awesome ring.

I sent him a text with a photo of his ring. We set up a meeting place which was on my way home and near where he lives. We had a nice visit and he kept looking at his ring that made me feel this was very special to him. It was pleasure to meet him and help him find his sentimental ring.

Lost Tiffany Ring in Yard .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

Janet called me the other evening just before dark. She ask my help to find her daughter’s silver Tiffany mesh ring. Lost in the front yard of their home. They live less than a mile from my location and there was enough light to begin the search, so I met them shortly after the call.

Hanna was there to show me where she had pinched her hand while shutting the front gate. She shook her hand and her ring went flying somewhere in the front yard grass, the landscape garden or the driveway. She thought she heard it land in the garden.

They had moved the cars in the driveway and visually searched the cement areas. I searched the lawn and the garden with my normal metal detector and the handheld pinpointer. Paying attention to the plants that the ring could have hung up. Double checking the brick type fence post there was about a one inch space underneath the first brick. That was where Hanna’s ring was hiding. 

Everybody was surprised the they had not spotted the ring while searching earlier in the day when it was light. We eliminated the other possible locations which caused us to double check previously searched areas.

Hanna’s smile shows how happy she was to have her ring back where it belongs.

Lost Electronic Car Key in Sand at Venice Beach, CA. .. Found

Joe and Natasha were sitting on the sand at Venice Beach, CA. His electronic car key slipped out of his pocket into the sand. After a couple hours sifting through the sand with their hands. Someone on the beach told him about TheRingFinders.

Joe called me telling me that he was sure the key was in the area that he was sitting. He would be able to stay there until I could meet him. Always a good to help for a successful search. So often people leave the area before realizing they have lost their key. Then they can’t find the general location where they had been.

I met Joe and Natasha less than an hour after his call to me. It only took a few swings with my metal detector to locate his car key. With this type car key it may require a tow to the dealership to have new electronic key programmed. Very expensive plus a lot of time waisted especially if it’s a weekend. It was nice to meet the both of them and help them find the car key.
