Tungsten Wedding Ring, Lost In A Durham, Maine Yard, Found With A Metal Detector

I received the following text, from Kelly, on Easter night.

“Hello, Can you help find a ring in my yard in Durham? I believe it is Tungsten”.

“I replied, “Hi Kelly, So sorry to hear this. I have found dozens of Tungsten Rings, over the years. When was the ring lost”?

Kelly replied, “Yesterday. I had it on my hand while I was weeding, it fell off, I found it and put it in my pocket. Did a couple of other things in the yard came inside and went to get the ring out of my pocket and it wasnt there.

I am guessing I put my phone in that same pocket and when I checked my phone at some point the ring came out”.

I then agreed to help Kelly and would meet her, at her home. I told Kelly it would be late morning, as Gary Hill and I had a previous commitment.

I was extremely confident the ring would be found, knowing Kelly knew exactly where she was, when the ring went missing. I just didn’t know how long it would take, because I didn’t know how big of an area, needed to be searched, on her property.

Monday morning, Gary and I finished up our commitment,  I phoned Kelly and told her we would be at her place, shortly. Kelly said she was home and would be waiting for us. Once Gary and I arrived, Kelly was already outside, talking to her neighbor. After brief introductions, I asked Kelly to go over the details of 2 days prior, when the ring went missing and if it was her ring. Kelly told us the ring was actually her husband’s, who had recently passed away, approximately 4 weeks ago. She had been wearing the ring, since his passing and the ring was big on her finger. WOW, Gary and I just glanced at each other and we knew we couldn’t leave until we found this very sentimental and emotional ring.

Kelly then told us the rest of the story.  Kelly was performing some weeding, around the property and after losing the ring once and finding it, she put the ring, in her pocket, for safe keeping. She continued weeding and working around the property. When she finished and went inside, the ring was missing, from her pocket. She said she also had her phone, in her pocket and had removed the phone a few different times, while working outside.

Kelly then showed us the areas, she had worked in and we could see the clumps of weeds, still on the ground.  Kelly also had gone into the tool shed, towards the backyard and she also had gone into the backyard. So it was a fairly good size area that Gary and I would have to search. We wanted to find this ring fast and get it back to Kelly. I would start grid searching the front of the house and Gary would start outback, near the tool shed.

As we searched, Kelly continued to visually search and answered all the questions that Gary and I were asking her. We were finding lots of targets but they were all in the ground, not above the ground, where the ring would be. I finished the front of the yard and now would be grid searching between the house and the raised flower bed and tree. Gary had finished the area near the tool shed and was now searching the lawn, on the side of the house. After 30 minutes of searching, still no ring. It’s amazing how rings just blend in the grass. After approximately 5 minutes of searching between the flower bed and house, I received an extremely loud signal. I looked down, towards the coil and didn’t see anything, for a few seconds and then, BANG, the ring came into focus. It was slightly pressed, into the ground and I suspect that the ring had been stepped on, by Kelly, the previous day. No one had walked in that area, while we were there.

Kelly was standing a few feet, to my right and I took my phone out, set the camera, to the video and then looked at Kelly

I said, “What if I told you I found it”? Kelly replied, “I would be ecstatic”. I then proceeded to tell her that the ring was right in front of her and yes, she was ecstatic, as she saw the ring, in the grass. I could sense the emotion overcoming her and I was so happy for her, to be getting her late husband’s ring back. Gary and I then gave her a hug and her tears of joy and all the other emotions of the last month, just overwhelmed her. Kelly was overcome with emotion and just went inside to deal with everything that had just happened.

Gary and I were also touched by all her emotions and we are so grateful that we are able to help others, like Kelly, in their time of need. There is no better feeling than seeing the happiness and joy we bring to others.

Key Fob Lost In Standish, Maine Found Visually, While Searching With A Metal Detector

On Saturday morning , May 25th, 2024, I received the following voicemail
“Yeah, my name is Stephanie. I called you yesterday but I’m not sure that I actually got the right number because the number that comes up on my phone is a six. Six number. I’ve lost a Key fob in Standish, probably about a half an hour from Saco. I know it’s a holiday weekend, so maybe this isn’t possible but if you could Let me know if it’s a possibility for us to get together I’d appreciate it you can text me, at your convenience. My number is 2 0 7- ***-**** .
Thanks bye-bye…”

I was driving back from Portland, but immediately called Stephanie back. I told Stephanie that I did not receive her voicemail, from the previous day, but that I would certainly be able to help her. It was now approximately 9:30am and I told Stephanie I would be there at approximately 11:00am, just needing to get to my home, in Saco, Maine and pick up my Metal Detecting equipment and drive to Standish, a suburb of Portland, Maine and Windham, Maine.
I arrived at the location, where the Key Fob had been lost, at 11:20am. Stephanie and her husband Tom, arrived 5 minutes later. Stephanie explained that 4 days earlier she had driven to this location and parked next to the walking and ATV trail. Shen then proceeded to walk down the road, stopping at certain locations, on both sides, of the road, to view and smell the many flowers. When she finished her walk, she noticed the Key Fob was no longer, in her pocket. She retraced her steps, on both sides of the road, including down in the ditch, along rock walls, in areas she had traversed, to see the flowers. She could not find the key fob. She then walked 3 miles home and then back to the car, with the spare key fob. Over the next few days, Stephanie returned and searched the area again, this time, getting down into the ditch and searching through the many leaves and brush. Still not successful, Stephanie was telling a friend what had happened and the friend told her to contact me, The Ring Finders of Maine.

Stephanie and Tom took me a few steps up the road, to where Stephanie thought the key fob, may be. It was down, in the ditch and covered with leaves and twigs. As I was searching, I was finding the usual road side trash, of bottle caps, vape pens and cans, but no key fob. As I came out of the ditch, I was walking at the top of the ditch and searching along the path, Stephanie had walked, days earlier. Stephanie was visually searching near me and her husband, Tom was visually searching, about 75 feet ahead of us. I was still only finding road side trash, when we heard Tom yell out to Stephanie to come meet him, up ahead. I continued my search and saw Stephanie and Tom, walking back to me. When they reached me, they showed me the key fob. TOM HAD FOUND THE KEY FOB, while visually searching, about 75 feet, up the road. Nothing like dual optical scanners (Eyes 👀) to successfully find the key fob. Tom had left the road side and saw them, laying next to a rock wall, approximately 10-15 feet from the road. Outstanding job Tom and he was then rewarded with a big kiss.
Another team effort, in locating Stephanie’s key fob. It may not have been found by a Metal Detector but Stephanie doesn’t care. She has it back and didn’t need to replace her Key Fob , at a cost of $325.00. We all left, very happy. And great day and story for my “Book of Smiles”

Gold Ring With 3 Diamonds Found On A Maine Beach, Returned To Owner In California

On October 9th, 2023, I received the following PM, from Wendy,

“I lost a gold ring about two-three weeks ago somewhere between the tennis courts (GRB Assoc) and the entrance of the beach in front of the Tides – at GRB. Had I known of your service I would have contacted you immediately.

I live in CA – if you think you could help – I would greatly appreciate it. If you think it is a lost cause – I totally understand”.

I immediately replied and told Wendy I would be happy to help. Wendy replied with the details of what transpired, leading up to the ring being lost.

Wendy had been playing tennis at the Goose Rocks Beach Association tennis courts and had taken her ring off and put it in her pocket. After chasing a few errant tennis balls and walking over to a utility shed, Wendy then walked a 1/2 mile to the beach and once there, climbed over the boulders at the entrance to the beach , that the town of Kennebunkport had placed there, in preparation for Hurricane/Tropical Storm Lee, which was scheduled to arrive the next day. Once Wendy climbed over the boulder and got to the beach, she realized her ring was missing. That’s right, the ring could be on Goose Rocks Beach Association property, anywhere along the 1/2 mile walk to the beach and the beach itself. On top of all that, the ring had been lost 3 weeks previously. Wendy had retraced her steps all the way back to the GRBA Property, without any luck. Well, I do love a challenge and this was certainly a challenge.

Two days later, I went to GRB, in Kennebunkport and thought to myself, “How am I going to find her ring that was lost on September 14th, almost 4 weeks ago. Well, start where she found the ring to be missing and work your way up to GRBA property, a 1/2 mile away.”

I decided too start at the Edgewood Avenue beach entrance , which is where Wendy said she climbed over the boulders, then go up to Wildwood Avenue, Community House Road and then to the Association tennis courts. This is the route Wendy said she took. I finished up at the beach entrance 1st and no luck. As I went up Edgewood Avenue, I detected the lawns, as I stood on the side of the roads, reaching onto the lawns between 3 and 5 feet. After approximately 3 hours, I had completed all of Edgewood and Wildwood, up to Community House Road. As I walked back to my car, I also checked some lawns on the opposite side of the street, in the off chance the ring had rolled/bounced across the road, or even thrown by a lawnmower, sometime in the last 3+ weeks. Nothing even close to being gold was detected, but there was still a lot of detecting to do and ground to cover.

The next day, October 12th, I went back and detected the GRBA property. All the walkways, around the tennis courts , out near the shed and the lawns. Again, 3 hours and nothing. All I had left was Community House Road. I wasn’t able to get back there until October 20th. When I did, I decided to try detecting around the entrance, across from The Tides Club. Wendy had originally mentioned she entered the beach there and it was 1 block south of Edgewood Avenue entrance. Well, no luck there either, so I drove back up to the GRBA property, parked and worked my way down Community House Road to Wildwood Avenue. Still no luck. I the crossed the street and searched that side of Community House Road, back up to GRBA property. Absolutely nothing.

On October 26th, after watching the news all day, about the Mass Shooting, in Lewiston, Maine, just 45-50 miles away from my home, I just had to get out of the house. I decided I would go detecting at GRB and a negative low tide was enticing. I would also check a few spots on Edgewood and Wildwood, that were on the opposite side of the road Wendy had been walking. I detected the low tide 1st with only a few coins found. As I was searching the beach , I found myself about to exit the beach at Proctor Avenue, when, BANG. A very solid low tone and a 12-20 repeating on my Minelab CTX-3030’s VDI Screen. Definitely got excited on this target, as it was definitely in the gold range. I removed my pinpointer and stuck it into the sand. I found the target and hand dug out the item that was 4-5 inches deep. The last hand of scooped sand revealed a gold ring with 3 diamonds. YES, I had found Wendy’s ring, by accident, or had I?  Wendy never mentioned she entered the beach across from Proctor Avenue. She had only mentioned Tides Club entrance, which was 2 blocks north and Edgewood, one block north. Could Wendy have gotten her street names mixed up. She was after all back home in California.

I texted Wendy and had her accurately describe the ring and telling her I had found a ring but not in the area she described. Wendy immediately texted back gold ring, 3 diamonds and a spring clasp on the inside of the ring to fit her finger better. I had never seen a ring with a spring clasp and the ring I found, had one Wendy described the ring perfectly. When I told her I had definitely found her ring after being lost for 6 weeks, to the day, her response was “OMG!!!! Where and how did you find it”? After going over the details, Wendy agreed she most likely had gotten her streets mixed up. She then told me

“Bless your heart. I am so happy! I never, ever thought I’d see that ring again”.

Now the only thing left to do is to mail Wendy her ring, in California, which I did, asap.

Wendy received her ring, in California on 10/30/23 and texted me the following, “Thank you so much Dennis! So thrilled to get my ring back”! Wendy also sent me a photo of her holding her ring for the 1st time in almost 7 weeks.

I just absolutely love helping people like Wendy. There is no better feeling than to help people in need.

Platinum Wedding Ring Lost On Goose Rocks Beach Kennebunkport, Maine Found With A Metal Detector

At 11:30am on August 11,2023, I received a text that stated a wedding ring had been lost at Goose Rocks Beach, in Kennebunkport, Maine. And then “Are you able to help”? I immediately called back and told him I absolutely could  help. I asked if the ring had been lost in the water or the dry sand? Up on the beach in the dry sand, was his reply. He then told me that she had 3 rings in the pocket of her beach dress and they had fallen out. Two of the rings had been found already, one in the sand and another had landed on a beach chair. However, a wedding ring was still missing and was not found by anyone in the group. I told him that I would leave immediately and be there in 30 minutes +- a few minutes. He texted me the GPS address and my wife and I were off to Kennebunkport. We arrived at the address in about 25 minutes and was met at the address by Chip. Chip explained that the family was still at the beach, which is just down the block and across the street, a 5 minute walk. Once we arrived at on the beach, Chip and Allie (owner of the lost wedding ring, explained how the rings had been lost and where within the 10’ X 15’ area they thought the ring was lost. I fired up the Minelab CTX-3030 and made my first swing.  At the end of the very 1st swing, I received a nice low tone and a 12-05 reading on the CTX-3030. I then asked Allie what type of metal the ring was made of. Platinum was her reply and I told her that this target was promising. I pulled out my pin pointer and located the target. I then moved some sand away with my hand, felt around and pulled out The Platinum Wedding Ring. Allie was very happy and relieved to have her ring back and I also had a big smile that I am still wearing.

Lost Wedding Ring Found Ocean City, NJ

I received a message from Dave on my Ring Finders South Jersey page stating that he lost his wedding band.  I contacted him immediately and arrived at the beach shortly after.  After speaking with Dave about where the lost ring might be, the search was on!  The ring was found and returned after a quick grid search near the water’s edge!!!  The couple is now able to enjoy the rest of their vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey!
