When Carol contacted me, she told of losing her ring in the bushes in her front yard. It had happened the day before, but knowing it was in her yard the chances of someone coming across it was very slim, so we arranged a search for the next day.

I got to Carol’s house at the appointed time and she came out to show me what had happened. She had been standing on her porch while some friends were leaving, and then waved. With a flick of the wrist, her ring flew off of her finger, and into the plants adjacent to the porch. There were some thick plants, and some ground cover, but well groomed, and not a lot of leaves under them. She showed me how the ring came off, so I began the search in the most obvious area. I looked all the way out to the neighbor’s fence, not really knowing how hard the wrist flick was, but wasn’t having any luck. Having exhausted all the far away possibilities, I began moving closer to the porch until I was at the last plant nearest the porch. This plant was very dense with vertical leaves, so I used my pin pointer to poke into the deep chambers of the stalks. I got one good signal, and ended up with a construction screw. I continued on, receiving another signal. It was deep down inside the plant. I couldn’t see what it was, but my pin pointer was not letting me down. I kept probing, and moving the stalks around, and then there it was; I had found Carol’s ring. I let her know right away, and she was very happy to have it back. Another great recovery!

Dominic’s Story: A Lost Wedding Ring at Point Dume Beach
On my way to help a customer at Point Dume Beach, I got a frantic call from Dominic. His wife had lost her wedding ring in the sand at Zuma Beach—just months into their marriage—and he needed urgent help. I promised to prioritize their lost ring recovery in Malibu after my current task, and soon I was navigating Malibu’s busy streets to meet him at lifeguard tower 4. The story was all too familiar: Dominic’s wife had stashed her rings in the sand before a swim, but her wedding band slipped away. With my Minelab Manticore in hand, I began sifting through Zuma Beach’s grains, every move drawing curious eyes. Amid bottle caps and trash, a dual-tone signal cut through—a wadded piece of foil emerged, followed by the gleaming wedding ring! Cheers erupted as I handed it back, another triumph for lost ring recovery in Malibu by Ventura County’s top Ringfinder.

A Wedding Band Lost to the Waves
Last evening, I received a distress call from a young man who’d lost his cherished wedding band to a crashing wave’s relentless shore break at Zuma Beach in Malibu. The beach’s unpredictable nature—shared by spots like Leo Carrillo State Beach and Point Dume Beach—demanded a strategic plan. We timed our lost ring recovery in Malibu to the shifting tides, aiming for the best shot at success.
I started gridding Zuma Beach with my Equinox 900, but the sand and waves churned like a washing machine, yielding nothing at first. Then, technical glitches forced me to rely on audio alone amidst the roar of the surf. Undeterred, I expanded the search radius—from Broad Beach to El Matador Beach vibes—one last push to reclaim the ring. A promising signal sparked hope. Battling water and sand, I scooped repeatedly until the lost wedding band glimmered free, triumphantly rescued from the ocean’s grip!
