*** Cindy’s husband walked up to me while I was detecting the surf line wet sand at Huntington Beach, Dog Beach. Cindy had just dropped her gold diamond wedding ring in the sand.

I walked over to the area thinking this was going to be easy.

I struggled to get a signal with my metal detector on the highest sensitivity setting. ( usually not necessary for wedding rings )

After 10 minutes I received a very weak target tone in my earphones. A quick dig with my sand scoop revealed her wedding ring. You can see in the photo, it was a custom designed ring. It was white gold with 2 diamonds and was open, which interfered with the signal received by my metal detector. Sometimes I remember to as if the ring is a normal ring design. The end result was that the ring was recovered and Cindy and her husband were able to enjoy the rest of their day at the beach.

*** Sarah and Joe were vacationing at Laguna Beach from New York. She lost a gold nail design bracelet during a walk on the sandy beach. It made their stay a little upsetting as this was Sarah’s favorite bracelet.

The day after the loss she contacted me from the airport while waiting to board their flight home. Sarah was able to send me a marked up screen shot of the area where she believed the loss occurred. I was able tell her what chances we have to find the item. On public beaches our chances of successful recoveries  can be compromised by other detectors or beach sifting machines. Most times I can eliminate an area, especially sandy beaches.

This was one of those miracle finds. Such a large target could have been easily found by the cleaning machines or a tourist picking up sea shells. The bracelet was exactly where she  marked up the Google map screen shot. Usually these type recoveries are never where they think they are. It doesn’t take long to eliminate a specific area. This time it was worth the drive and a 20 minute grid search.

I was able to mail the bracelet back to Sarah and Joe. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a photo of them smiling, so  I’m including a selfie of me.

** James called me 4 days after losing his college class ring. He had been at Three Arch Bay in Laguna Beach,  CA. It’s was a family gathering on this private beach. He put his gold college graduation ring in the cupholder of beach chair. After leaving the beach he realized, he had not put his ring back on his finger.

He was given my contact information by another resident of this private beach. I got his story of the circumstances of the loss with a general location. That was enough to give me an area to search without having him meet me at the beach. It took about an hour to find his ring which must have fallen out of the beach chair as they walked off the beach.. Another successful ring recovery for a nice guy. It was my pleasure to help James.

They told me that two rings were lost in the sand.  I was amazed that they had been able to find one of the rings hand searching the sand.
Anyway, I recovered the other ring shortly after starting a grid search with my state of the art metal detector. It was a big family group and they were all happy to see how easy it was to find the other ring. *** Karla was enjoying a day at Newport Beach, CA. when she lost her diamond engagement ring in the sand. She had taken off her ring to apply sunscreen, setting the ring on her towel for the moment. Something distracted her and she didn’t remember to put it back on her finger. While picking up her items to leave the beach, she realize that her ring was missing. Of course, she took time to try to find it by dragging her fingers through the sand which proved to be frustrating.

She went to her smart phone and googled how to find a ring in the sand and eventually found my contact information. I was able to meet her on the beach shortly after we talked. Our conversation was short, once she told me, she lost it in the sand, and she was still at the location. That was all I needed to know. It is more important to meet her on the beach as soon as possible, than to waste time discussing the small details.

After so many years of finding sentimental keepsakes for people, I’m used to seeing the despair and people’s faces when they think they’ve lost the item forever, especially wedding rings. Karla was no exception. The first thing I told her was, not to worry, this should be an easy recovery.

It only took a few minutes, and I had her beautiful diamond ring in my scoop.  The success of this search was because Karla realized her ring was missing before she left the beach. Secondly, she did not spend too much time trying to recover the ring by hand sifting the sand. The most important thing she did was call a professional Metal Detecting service.

** Linda had returned home in Corona, CA. after a day at the Montage Resort, Laguna Beach, CA. That’s when  she realized her 4 silver rings were missing. Linda  knew that her rings were on her towel at the beach. Now, that she was 40 miles from the beach it would be difficult to return. Also, she was aware that finding small items in the sand is difficult.

She contacted me after finding my information online. Her description of where she had been was easy for me to find without her having to drive the 80 mile round trip.

I located her most important ring 15 minutes after arriving on the beach. It took another hour and a half to wait for all the people watching the sunset to leave the area. The other 3 rings did not show.  I sent a photo of the ring to Linda and she was understanding  ( somebody probably found the other rings) . The good thing was, the ring I found was the most important ring. She was very happy that I was able to help her.
