Bella had been at Santa Monica Beach with her friends. She went into the water not realizing that she was still wearing her Cartier watch. It was actually an hierloom that her mother had passed down to Bella.

She was out about waist deep water with small waves when she felt the watch slip off her wrist. The tide was beginning to come up. On the Southern California beaches we get high tides that range between 4.5ft to 6.5ft. high. The tides raise approximately one foot an hour.

When I received the call I knew the water level could be too high to do a proper search. My priority was to get to the location before Bella left the beach. This may take two trips to do a proper search. I only discuss the general idea if the loss occurred in the dry sand or water and if they can stay at the location till I arrive. For beach losses it’s more important to get on the road and meet the people before they have to leave.

I was at the Santa Monica beach location within an hour of Bella’s call for help. The tide was rising and I was hoping that she had been wrong about how deep she was when the watch slipped off her wrist. It’s really hard to judge how deep you are in the surf with 3 or 4ft. waves.

I went directly into the surf with my waterproof metal detector. It wasn’t necessary to go into the crashing waves as I was pretty sure I would have a better chance to find the watch the next day at a lower tide.

Within fifteen minutes I got my first good signal and BOOM!! One very sentimental gold Cartier watch was in my scoop.

Bella, her friends and all the people on the beach were excited, amazed and joyful that the watch was saved and not lost forever.

Michelle and Ashley had been surfing at Sunset Beach, CA. Like many surfers Ashley buried her keys under the edge of her towel. When they were ready to leave, they couldn’t find the keys.

I met them on the beach shortly after they called. They had left the area of the beach where they had been laying out, but Ashley was confident that the wet spot on the beach was where her surfboard had been.

I grid searched the 40’x 40ft area twice and expanded my search outside that area with no success. They were confused, thinking maybe someone had seen them bury the keys. Then they asked me to stop searching. They called a relative to bring a spare set of keys and walked back to their car.

I stayed on the beach determined to finish a large area that could hide a set of car keys. Fifteen minutes after Ashley and Michelle had left the beach, I found the keys more than 100’ from the location they gave me. They still don’t know how the keys ended up that far away but the important thing is that the two surfer ladies were able to get into their car to drive home and the keys were also important. Just the trouble of replacing these keys can be aggravating. I have learned not to let the possibility that someone possibly took the keys keep me from eliminating all possible hiding spots.

*** When Jenn called me for help to find a lost rose gold ring in the sand at Bolsa Chica State Beach I assumed it was going to be an easy search. Usually, if the people haven’t left the beach it can be a quick recovery. Most important is to get to the location before they leave.

I met Jenn and her husband Eric shortly after talking to Jenn on the phone. After discussing the loss of Eric’s rose gold ring, I knew this was going to take some time. They had been at the beach for more than 4 hours and Eric had not felt the ring come off his finger. To top it off he had been in the ocean. Most the time was spent on the dry sand near their blanket and umbrella. Then he had helped build a sand castle half way between the upper towel line and the water.

I did a quick swing over the blanket area then went into the water to waist deep water while the tide was low. Next I jumped over to the area around the sand castle project. No Find! After the concentrating on the most likely spots i began a tight grid search to and from the damp sand to the incoming water line.

Bingo! The ring was found after more than an hour of thorough searching in the wet sand. It was a large search area but I only had to do less than I expected to grid search. Nobody that was there would have guessed that the ring would be where it was found.

Christina found me after a google search. She asked me if I could check her floor heater vent for a ring she lost a year ago. She had the heater company look with a camera several months ago. This was an area I couldn’t use a metal detector and I’m sure the heater people had a good camera for inspection of heat ducts. Basically I told her I couldn’t do that type search after professional heater service had already looked.

Then Kristina told me that there was another ring lost in the shrubbery of her back yard. Her husband’s platinum wedding band had come off his finger last week while waving his arms. He felt the ring come off but it had to land in the landscaping shrubs because they never heard it hit the deck or cement sidewalk.

I met Kristina the next morning and she showed me both locations. I did another camera inspection of the heater vent without success. Also crawled under the bathroom floor to feel what vent ducts looked like. I advised her that the duct could be easy disconnect for a better search. I will not do that, just don’t need to liable for any damages heater system.

Next I started to use my Deus metal detector in the planter on the side of a backyard slope. I did get a faint signal but the 5”x 7” coil head could not get into the thick overgrowth. I pulled out my Garrett Pinpointer taped it to a 5 ft. pole. Probing into the thick growth I got a strong signal in the same area that the Deus had sounded off. A quick look into the bushes allowed me see a round platinum ring in the dried leaves at the base of plants. Boom! Successful recovery for Kristina and her husband. Than you for calling TheRingFinders and trusting me to search for your valuable and sentimental keepsake.

Diamond Stud Earring Lost in Beach Sand for Three Weeks .. Found at Huntington State Beach, CA.

*** John called me asking if metal detectors can find a small gold stud earring lost in the sand.  Have one detector that I purchased just for this type search. It is still not an easy type search. My favorite saying is, “ You can’t find it if you don’t try”.

I didn’t ask very many questions about how the loss occurred, because it happened at Huntington State Beach which is 4 miles away from my base. Also, John could be there to show me location where his daughter lost the earring while she removed her face mask.

We met later that afternoon where John had a 25’x 25’ area laid out in the dry sand. I set up my detector to the highest frequency and began a grid search. I also made sure that John knew this was a very difficult type search because the small amount of metal on a diamond stud earring without a backing. We did not have the other earring to check my settings of my detector. He was understanding but felt his daughter would appreciate that we did search for her precious sentimental earring.

As I was grid searching the site, John mentioned, to my surprise that the loss happened three weeks ago. This was a game changer. Much foot traffic and patrol truck tire marks in the sand could have put the earring out of detecting range.

I started a cross grid over the small search location as John was kicking through the sand. “BOOM” a small but clear signal and a miracle find. The small diamond stud earring was in me sifting scoop. ( fine mesh cat litter scoop). If John soul have told me it was lost 3 weeks before, I may not have tried the search. Just goes to show you, “you can’t find it if you don’t try”.

Another memorable find and I know that John’s daughter will appreciate that her dad found me to do the search.

Lost Platinum Wedding Band Recovered Using Metal Detector at Dockwieler Beach

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

If You lose a metal valuable in the sand call Stan … 949-500-2136

*** Anthony called me after spending several hours trying to find his platinum wedding ring in the sand at Dockweiler Beach , Los Angeles county, CA.

We didn’t talk much about the loss on the phone as one minute can equal one mile down the road. All I needed to hear was he felt it come off his finger while sitting on his towel. The other thing I needed to know was that he could wait at the location till I arrived,

I arrived at Dockwieler Beach after driving in fast moving traffic. Parking was easy as people were beginning to leave the beach. Anthony answered his phone right away, directing me to site. Within a few minutes I had his platinum wedding ring in my scoop.

Many people just give up and walk away from their sentimental keepsake, not knowing that it can be found with the right tool (quality metal detector) and a experienced person to do an efficient search.

Anthony and his wife were very grateful and appreciative that they found me on TheRingFinders website. I had to hear again that they never knew a service like this existed.

Lost Wedding Ring after 69 Years of Marriage.. Found by Member of TheRingFinders .. Newport Beach, CA.

Nic’ s 90 year old grandmother had been visiting with the family at their Newport Beach home on the beach. She has been grieving the recent loss of her husband of 69 years of marriage. While at the family gathering she lost her wedding ring that she has worn for the 69 years.

His grandmother, Nana had been out on the beach where she walked into the surf, ankle deep, to feel the ocean water on her feet. She lost her balance falling in the shallow water. Nic’ s mother helped Nana to her feet walking her back to their beach chairs where she used towels to dry her off. That’s where Nana noticed her precious ring missing.

Nic had the presence of mind to go online to find my contact information. After he called me I was able to meet him and his family at the site shortly after the call.

Almost everyone believed the ring was in the ocean. Nic’s mother thought it could be in the dry sand where they dried off Nana.

I spent the first part of the search in the surf as the tide was coming up. If it wasn’t there I could return at the next low tide. Not finding it, I went up to where they had dried off.

While swing my detector over the dry sand, Nana walked up to me with a sad look on her face. She pointed out to the waves saying the ring is lost out there. A couple more moves with the detector I got the perfect sound of gold. One scoop of my sand scoop revealed the 69 year old ring. Nana was right next to me at the time, so I let her take it out of the scoop. The look on her face was indescribable. I got very emotional and began to tear up. After many recoveries this was exceptional and one I’ll never forget. Being a member of TheRingFinders has been a special part of my life.

Here’s a testimonial from Nicodemos:

My 90 year old nana fell by the water right on 38th street Newport Beach and walked over onto the sand to dry off when she noticed her ring she got from her now passed away husband (tata) since 1951 was missing!

Our family lost all hope until I found Stan The Metal Detector Man! I called and he immediately came by within 15 minutes! It was very reassuring to see how confident and knowledgeable Stan was. He had a plan and reasoning for what he was doing and he found the ring in less that an hour.

Honestly can’t thank Stan enough because what he found was priceless and he’s doing gods work

“I FIND JEWELRY”  call Stan the Metal Detector Man if you need  help ..  949-500-2136

*** Don called the day after losing his ring possibly at a local Los Angeles County Beach. He didn’t know it was missing till he got home from the beach. He did know that he had placed it in his backpack while at the beach. After searching his car and house he only could think it may have come out of the backpack while pulling items out.

He told me he had run out of places to search. The only other possibility would be it fell out of the backpack while at the beach. We discussed our chances of finding the ring that has daily sifting machines and other recreational metal detectorists. I did tell him once I scanned the area I could tell him that there isn’t a ring there now.

We met that evening after all the beach goers had left the beach. Don showed me an area between the trash cans and the top of the last high tide. I chose to start in the middle grid searching parallel towards the water. After a ten or twelve passes Don wanted me to come back towards the trash cans. This happens often, but I told him I would move over to that other area as soon as I finished two more passes. Yep! Just before finishing to move to his new location. BOOM! Great sounding target and his ring in the scoop. If I would have moved when he wanted me to, it would have been another hour or more before I resumed the original search pattern.

Either way we both knew it was a long shot type search and it worked out well. The hard searches are so emotionally rewarding. That’s why I say I Will Try Anywhere. Even if the item isn’t found there is some type of satisfaction to know that the search was done with an experienced metal detectorist.

**** Damir called me asking if I remembered finding an engagement ring he dropped in the sand three years ago. It was late at night when he was proposing to Ellie  That night we also had the help of a police officer who provided light while I found the ring for them.

Damir was at work. This time he asked if I could help his wife, Ellie find her white gold diamond wedding ring. She was at the beach with her mother and father in-laws. She would be able to wait an hour at the location till I could meet her.

After parking I started to call her cellphone when she walked up to me asking if I were here to help her find the ring.
We walked a couple blocks to the location on the beach. These are the most successful type calls. She knew the ring was on her finger when she arrived on the beach. She didn’t leave the area. She called for help without wasting time searching the sand. Her husband still had my contact information which also helped.

Now all we had to do was turn on the metal detector and begin a thorough search pattern. A few minutes later we had the small size #4 white gold with diamonds wedding ring recovered from the sand. Some metal detectors struggle when trying to detect small white gold /diamond rings, especially if the are in mineralized beach sand.

She was extremely relieved to have this very sentimental ring back where it belongs. It’s impossible to replace the original wedding ring. We had a good time reminiscing the first engagement ring find several years before.

*** Demi was at Seal Beach, CA. when she gave her engagement ring to her fiancé to hold while she went swimming. When she returned to their place on the beach, her fiancé had lost the diamond engagement ring somewhere in the sand.

She was given my referral by another  person on the beach. When I received the call I asked her what beach is she at. Her answer was Seal Beach. Another coincidence, I was also at Seal Beach only a block away from Demi and her fiancé.

I did have to go to my vehicle to grab my detector before meeting them 15 minutes later. As we walked to their set up on the beach they told me it could be any where around their beach blanket or chairs.

I started at the chairs with a few quick swings In  few minutes I had her precious diamond engagement ring in my scoop. Timing is important, this beach has a very efficient cleanup crew. The  ring may have not survived the sifting machine the next morning. Many people were there to witness the recovery and I’m sure they will know there is a service like TheRingFinders if they ever need help finding a lost ring.
