RJ called me in the afternoon on a hot day for a search. He had been at the beach the day before, and before going in the water he remembered putting his necklace with pendant into his bag. When he left though the necklace was gone, he figured in the beach sand. This piece of jewelry was given to him by his mother. It had been worn by his grandfather while he fought in World War 2. The pendant had the word LUCK written in Hebrew, and it meant the world to him. I came right away.

When I arrived there was still a lot people on the sand, but RJ believed that it was in an area that people were not in at the time. I did a search the best I could, but was not able to find the ring. I let him know I would go back when everyone had gone home. I got there about 8:30 PM, and began my search. After about 1 1/2 hours, and many bottle caps, pennies, and tin foil, I got another good signal. When I dug, there in my scoop was the pendant, not where he had thought it was, in fact way over to the other side of where he had conducted me earlier. This is the reason it is best to get on the search as soon as possible, because over time people tend to forget exact details that we as Ring Finders need in order to have a successful search. Of course we need to think and search “out of the box” at times in order to have a complete search of an area, and this is what was done this time. I sent RJ a text to let him know I found the pendant and chain, and arranged to meet him at the bar he was at to return it. Needless to say RJ was very happy that night!

I received a call from Roy, he had been throwing a football to his friend at the beach, when his ring flew off of his hand. He did not think it went into the water, even though he was close. I told him I would be there as soon as I could to perform a search for him. The ring was given to him by his father who had since passed away, so this ring had extreme sentimental value to him.

When I arrived he took me to the area, and showed me what had happened. It seemed like it should’ve been an easy search, but the tide was coming in, and less sand was exposed. It was about 7:00 PM, and tide was almost at its highest, and all the area he thought it might have landed in did not have the ring. After completely searching the area, I was disheartened to have to tell Roy, that his ring was not in the area I searched, but told him that I would come back at 12:00 AM to do a second search when the tide had receded, and he was welcome to meet me for the search. Roy decided not to go, so I was on the beach in the darkness doing my grid alone at 12:00 AM. About 1 1/2 hours later down the slope 30 feet from where I was searching earlier (30 feet further out in the water earlier), I received a real nice signal, and dug. One scoop, and his ring was shining in my headlight. I sent him a text at 1:30 AM to let him know the ring was secure. I did not hear anything back from him until the next morning, at which time he was totally in disbelief that I was able find his ring. Because of work arrangements we had to wait a week in order to get his ring back. When we finally met, I was able to give this memory of his father back to him, and completely make his day. What a great service to be a part of!

Diamond Wedding Band Lost in the Sand at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received a call earlier today from Devon who was calling for his friend Kari. Kari had been sitting in a beach chair, and decided to apply some sunscreen. She did not want to mess her wedding band with the cream, so she removed it and put it on the chair. She then moved forgetting it was on the chair, and in that process it was gone in the soft sand. She searched where she thought it might have fallen, but was unable to find it, even with the help of friends. Kari’s husband had gotten the ring as a special gift for her, so it had a special sentimentality. I let Devon know that I was on my way and would contact him when I arrived.

When I got to the beach, we were able to find each other after a little communication, When they showed me the area, I knew that if everything played out as they explained to me, the ring was going to be found. They had many things in their favor, but the two most important were that they called right away, and that they had not left the area. I set up after they had moved the beach chairs, adjusted the detector’s sensitivity, and proceeded to search. One swing, nice tone, one scoop, and in the scoop was Kari’s ring. I pulled it out and held it up, when at that point the whole group of people surrounding me burst into cheers, and when I handed it back to Kari, she became very emotional. It took all of about 10 seconds to have the ring back in Kari’s hand. I love to see joy restored!

Kari sent the following testimonial:

Hi Steve,

Thank you again so much for finding my ring yesterday. I just posted a review on your yelp page.

Here is a testimonial for your website:

It was a typical beach day. I removed my diamond eternity band to apply sunscreen as I always do but somehow got distracted and forgot to put it back on. Suddenly about an hour and a half later I realized my ring wasn’t on my hand. I had set it next to me on my beach chair and now it was gone. Likely buried in the sand somewhere. I was distraught. I had a fast thinking friend who called a metal detector shop and they referred us to Steve. We had tried to contain the area where we thought it might be as best we could. Steve showed up and saved the day! After going over some details with me, he put his equipment to work and sure enough, the first swipe yielded my ring! I will be forever grateful to Steve for finding this very sentimental gift given to me by my husband.

Thank you again Steve!

iPhone, Credit Cards, and Driver’s License Found in the Water, Under the Sand at the Beach…Returned.

I was out metal detecting in the surf where the water is covering the sand, when I got a good signal. I dug, and dug, and out from under about 12 inches of wet water covered sand out pops an iPhone in an Otter Box case. On the back of the case was a sleeve with 2 credit cards, and a driver’s license. When I got home I cleaned the phone which looked in good shape, dried it off and plugged it in to see if it would take a charge. After a few minutes it did turn on, but I could not get in because it was locked. It had a date of 2 weeks prior, so I figured that is when it was lost.

I then took the bank card to my local branch of the same name and asked if they would contact the owner, and give them my number, so I could arrange to get everything back to them. They agreed to do that, and within 15 minutes I was talking to the mother of the person who had lost the phone with the cards. She said the address on the license was still good, and I told her I would get it in the mail right away. I just checked the tracking number, and it was delivered yesterday. Glad to be able to help!

I was awakened this morning at 6:30 AM by a call from Jason, asking if I would be available to look for a lost ring. I began asking questions, and found out that the ring was lost the night before. It was his partner Angela’s ring. I then asked if the sand was smoothed out from the beach cleaning machines, and he told me that the machine did not go through the area they were in. I asked if he was sure, and he told me he was, because they had been on the beach through the night searching for the ring, he said it was very special to Angela. I asked, the whole night? He affirmed his statement, in which realizing it meant a lot to her, I jumped into my clothes, shaved and brushed my teeth, and was on my way.

When I got there Jason had me rouse Angela who had been resting in her car after a long hard night, and we walked out to where he was. I could see the sand of the whole beach smoothed over like a person dragged a 2×4 over the sand, and was a bit disheartened, until I got to where Jason was standing. I could see that the tractors were forced to go around the area in question, which gave me a vision of Jason facing down the County tractor like the lone man in Tiananmen Square facing down a tank. The area in question was not touched by the machines. It took about 5 minutes to find Angela’s ring which surprised them because they had spent so many hours looking for it. I found out that Angela’s late father, had designed and made the ring for her, and gave it to her before he passed away. I understood why she did not want to leave the site without her ring, it is priceless. She was so very happy and thankful, and I was happy to be able to help. What an awesome morning indeed!

Thomas called yesterday. He had been shaking out his clothes at the beach, when his ring slipped off of his finger and into the sand. It was gone immediately, and his search for it was futile. He had not left the area, so I told him I would be there as soon as I could.

When I arrived, Thomas was there waiting for me, and showed me what had happened. The area was not big, but there was a ton of metal in the sand which caused me to dig a lot of targets to be sure not to miss his ring. I worked the most likely area, digging everything that sounded possible, but his ring did not show up. I then started on the other side and received a good tone. It sounded so good in relation to the other tones I had been receiving that I told Thomas that this might just be his ring. I scooped the sand, shook it out, and in the scoop was a nice silver colored ring. I lifted it out and Thomas was amazed, it was his ring! He was so very happy to have his ring back, having only been married for 9 months. I feel very fortunate to be able to create such a smile. Fun day!

Mark called me about the loss of his wedding ring. He was visiting with friends on the beach, and throwing a football around, when going for a catch, he felt his ring fly off. It had happened earlier that day, so the possibilities of a recovery were high. I told him I would be there as soon as I could get there, and left immediately.

When I got there Mark met me, and took me to the area of the loss. He showed me what had happened, and where he believed the ring may have gone. I began my grid, and worked my way in the direction of the possible loss. I worked out about 8 passes with no ring, and decided to start working in the opposite direction. After 2 passes I received a good tone in the headphones. I scooped the sand, and in my scoop was one of the coolest looking wedding rings I have recovered. Mark and his wife have had these identical custom rings for 25 years, so this loss had great sentimental implications. I was able to give Mark his ring back, which really made his day. We were standing around talking after the recovery, when the 7.1 earthquake hit Southern California, and we felt like we were rocking and rolling, which made this recovery a very memorable event!

I received a call from Laura on 4th of July. She had lost her Cartier bracelet in the sand while playing with her children, and was distressed. I let her know that I would be there as soon as I could get there, I just asked that she would stay in order to help me locate the possible area of the loss.

When I got there Laura met me and showed me the area they had been playing in. She said the closure on the bracelet wasn’t functioning properly, and that is why it came off. I began my search, and after about 4 passes, pulled up the bracelet out of the sand. I was able to give her bracelet back, and received a big hug from Laura. She told me that her mother had given the bracelet to her, and she wanted to be able to give it to her daughter later on. It was nice to be able to reunite her with this family heirloom! Truly a wonderful 4th of July!

Yael called explaining that she had lost the ring her mother had given her, in the sand at the beach. She had taken it off, and put it on the blanket they laid out, but forgetting that she had put the ring on the blanket, she picked the blanket up and shook it out. At that point it was too late, the ring was gone. I let her know I would be there as soon as possible, because they were still there, and possibility of a recovery was good.

When I got to the area Yael showed me what had happened, and the possible vicinity of the lost ring. I got my detector ready, and decided to start at the outer part of the perimeter. I turned my machine on, took two swings, got the tone, put the scoop in, and within 10 seconds was able to hand Yael her ring back. It doesn’t always happen like that, but I just happened to chose the right place to start. Needless to say Yael was overjoyed to have her precious ring back again. I was so happy to have been able to be able to give back something she thought was lost forever. Really a great day!

Katelynn called me the other day about her lost ring. She had been at the beach for a volleyball tournament when in the process of hitting the ball her ring flew off into the sand, and disappeared. Her grandmother had given her the ring 3 years prior, and she wore it every day; it meant a lot to her. We arranged to meet after the tournament was over for the search, so as to not disrupt the games.

When I got to the area, Katelynn and her friends were waiting at the volley ball court. I asked a few questions, and she showed me where she had been and what she had done, so I began my search. The court was clean of all metal. I was getting no signals whatsoever. Then I got my first signal, a silver tone, one scoop, and in my basket was Katelynn’s ring. I pulled it out for her, and she was elated. I am sure she thought it was gone forever, and I was glad to reunite her with such a sentimental item. I know she slept well that night. Love those smiles!

Katelynn sent the following testimonial:

Good Morning Steve!

Wow, what an awesome post! I can’t thank you again for taking the time and for your efforts in finding my ring. It’s hard to put into words just how much it meant. It’s not often that a stranger is so willing to show such kindness and willingness to help someone they don’t know. My ring is like my security blanket. It’s something so small, but I have with me at all times. It’s been there through it all and the second it’s not on my hand, something feels ‘off’ It was a strange feeling taking it off this Sunday before beach Volleyball, as typically I wouldn’t do that, but after learning my lesson from the previous week, I think it’ll have to start sitting the bench for games haha. I would hate for you to have to come out again and find it…while i’m positive that you would be able to do so! I’m not sure that many people are aware that a service such as the one you provide, exists so i’ll continue to rave about the convenience and helpfulness that you so kindly had shown me. Feel free to clip an excerpt for above to use as a testimony. Should you need anything else from me, please do not hesitate to reach out. I can’t thank you again Steve and think you’re doing a wonderful thing!

Warm Regards,
Katelynn
