Georgia called letting me know she had lost her engagement ring at the beach. It was dark at the time, but she was hopeful that I would be able to help her. I told her that I was available, and would come right away.

I got to the beach in a good amount of time because of traffic at this hour, and met up with Georgia. We went to the area of the loss where she explained what she believed happened to lose the ring. I went right to working a tight grid in the darkness. Finding pieces of trash metal is not uncommon. so to dig every signal especially at night is very important. After about 10 minutes I had her ring, and was able to return it to her. It helps when the person can meet me at the spot to narrow down the search area, and this was another reason for success. She very happy to have her ring back.

Having lost his wedding ring in the sand at the beach, and not being able to find it David called and asked if I would be able to help. To insure a high possibility of a recovery, I let him know I would do the search as soon as I could get there, leaving right away, not allowing too much time to pass.

When I got there David took me out to the area of the loss, and explained how it occurred. I began my search in a tight grid, so as to make sure I covered every inch of sand. It did not take long, and I had David’s ring in my scoop. He was very happy to have it back. Another bonus was that the loss, and the recovery were both on his birthday. It was nice to be able to “present” him with his ring.

I received a contact from Anika because of the loss of her phone and keys at the beach. She had been at a surf school, and put them in a Ziplock bag to bury them while she went in the water putting her towel over them to know where they were buried. When she got out though she found that someone had moved her towel, and she had no idea where they were now. I left immediately to help her.

When I got there I found Anika, and we went over to the area of the loss. It did not take long, and fortunately no one had settled in over the phone and keys. I was able to find them, and she was happy for the recovery. A great day for sure.

Erin called with an air of desperation having lost her keys in the sand at the beach, they included car and house keys. I was ready and available, and let her know that I would leave immediately to help her.

When I got to the beach, Erin found me, and took me over to the spot where she believed them to have been lost. As a professional photographer she had been taking family photos for five different families that morning, and had been very busy, not noticing the loss. The area she showed me was pretty big, but going low and slow, and with a tight grid it would be no problem. I worked one way from the middle, pass after pass, making sure to cover every inch of sand. After about 8 passes, and almost outside of the shown area, I got a strong signal, dug, and had her keys. She wasn’t looking when I found them, and as I walked them over to her, she turned seeing them and was overcome by emotion. She told me that the last 2 weeks had been very tough for her, and losing the keys just seemed like it was breaking the camel’s back. Not to mention, she had another photo shoot lined up, and without the car key she would have made it. I am so glad I was able to make her day. Her smile says it all.

Brook called me for help. She had been getting her beach materials ready to leave when with the flick of her wrist her ring was lost in the sand. She had searched diligently, yet was unable to find it. I was able to go to help, even though it was getting late.

When I arrived, it was dark, and we were the only ones on that lonely beach. She showed me the area where she had marked it, and in the light of my headlight, I was able to see where she had been searching. I began my search, and searched the whole area with no luck. She had never left the beach, so the ring had to still be there. It was time to expand the search, and about 10 feet away from the original area I got a good signal, dug, and had a very pretty ring in the scoop. I showed her and she was very happy because it had been given to her. When we walked up to the highway, I said I would walk her to her car. She told me she was going to call for an UBER, so because it was extremely dark there, and there are a lot of homeless in the area I let her know I would wait with her until the UBER came. Then she asked if I could take her to the Metro train depot in Santa Monica about 10 miles away, which I said I would be happy to do for her safety. Great smile!

Car Key Lost in Ivy in Inglewood…Found and Returned

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

If you have lost something call right away, the chances of a recovery diminish with each passing hour. Steve Smith: 310-953-5268

Ebrahim called explaining how he had lost his car key in the ivy at his apartment complex. We arranged to meet the next day knowing that if he was unable to find it, it wasn’t likely to be found by someone not knowing it was there.

When I got there Ebrahim took me over to the site of the loss, and he told me how it occured. It happened on the stairs up to his apartment, and the emergency key that was in his fob bounced out when it hit the step after being dropped. It then went into the ivy below. He found the fob, but was unable to find the key. I could see where he had been searching, and went over the area myself with the detector. I then had to start working out from his search area, and about 12 inches from where he had been searching I found his key. Ebrahim came over, and was relieved to have it back.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Sand at Santa Monica Beach…Found and Happily Returned

If you have lost something, please call right away. The longer you wait, the less the chance of a recovery. Steve Smith 310-953-5268

Yun called me to ask if I could help find his wedding ring. He had been at Muscle Beach in Santa Monica on the equipment, and put his ring in his pocket. After he was done he reached into his pocket to retrieve the ring, and with the flick of his hand, his ring flew into the sand. Although he searched diligently for it, it was nowhere to be found. We arranged a time to meet there, and I was on my way.

When I got there Yun, his new bride (they were on their honeymoon from South Korea), and his friend Tae met me to show me where the loss occured. I began my search covering the area showed to me, finding some small pieces of metal, but not the ring. Then I began to widen the search area going out grid line by grid line. I got a great double signal steady in the headphones, put the scoop in, and had the ring. Yun and his bride were very happy, and thankful to have the ring back, and it was great that their honeymoon was not spoiled. Their rings matched, which was nice.

Jeremy’s friend Mark called because Jeremy had lost his wedding ring in the sand while playing football with friends at the beach. When going for the ball, his ring came off, and was completely hidden from him and his friends who searched hard for it. I let him know I would come ASAP in order to have a successful recovery.

When I arrived I went to the wrong place, and had to call in order to be redirected to where the loss occurred. When I found him he showed me the area, and how the loss occurred. I began my search, finding quite a bit of metal trash in the area which slowed down the search considerably. I searched the area he showed me, not finding the ring, so I began to expand the search zone. After about 5 more passes I found his ring. Jeremy and his friends were surprised it had gone into that area, but he was happy to have it back. Great smile!

Yumi Contacted me about some jewelry she lost earlier that day. She had been at the beach, and to “be safe” she told me she took her 3 rings off, and put them in her pocket. The last thing she remembered was that they were jingling in the pocket, and to hear them made her feel better. She and her boyfriend left the beach for Downtown Los Angeles, and then had the heartbreaking realization that everything was missing. It was a little late when she called, but knowing that beach is cleaned by very efficient machines, and other metal detectorists, I told her that I would leave right away in order to have the best possibility of a recovery.

When I arrived it was dark, and I had a while before the police enforced the 10:00 PM curfew removing everyone from the beach. So I got to the area, and called Yumi to make sure I was in the right place, also asking a few more questions as to distance from the marker and such. I worked my way from the top of the slope making a tight grid, and surprisingly not finding much in the way of coins or trash metal. I continued my grid, line after line working away from the slope, until about 25 feet from the slope, and 50 feet from the marker I received a myriad of good signals. I put in the scoop, and got a ring. I was excited now. I moved the coil over again, dug, and another ring, I was pretty sure I had the spot. Scanned again, and this time an earring (Yumi hadn’t mentioned earrings), so I began to wonder. I scanned again, and another ring. I scanned again, and a second earring. That was it for that spot, so I immediately called Yumi and asked if she could identify her rings (I wanted to be sure these were hers). She did correctly ID them, and then I asked if that was it, and she said there were earrings. I told her I had found it all, and we arranged to meet the next day for the return. She was so happy because two of those rings had belonged to her late aunt, and were irreplaceable. Not only that, but she will be going back to her home in Chicago soon, and would have had to leave them here forever. I really enjoy what I do.
